Native code (c++ exe) for detecting jre version
hi,
we have got a cd to be sent to customers. if no java enviroment is present or , jre vversion is below 1.5 we must force user to setup jre 1.5.
our setup must begins with a c++ exe( while there could be no java enviroment on machine). how do we understand which version or not he is using.
could there be a small utility or something like thar? or could we find sources with c++ for this topic.
i taught a trick infact, could it be i write some java code
System.getProperty("java.vm.version");
convert it in a native code and get it, is it to nonsense

Detect JRE version of the Client Browser fiom a JSP
I have an Applet that is called from a JSP page that works only in certain JRE versions .
I was wondering if there is a way of finding the Installed JRE version of the Client ...You could use some of the old traditional Javascript code that determines what browser it's running in, and have that code pass different parameters to the applet based on its determination.

I have an applet up and working but it needs the java.policy file get modified in order to do some of it's stuff. Is there a way to do that thru code? Like asking for permission to the user in order to change the permissions there?
Any idea?A should digitially "sign" your applet's jar file
instead.
This will then present the user with a dialog box
asking if they wish to trust the content downloaded
and signed by "javydreamersw" or whatever name you
wish to use.
Ps. digitially signing jars should be well
documented, and asked very frequently.
You should have no trouble finding out how to do it.
regards,
OwenThat's a good idea but I can't freely sign jar's on jre 1.5. I was able to create the certificate but I can't sign the jar and I'm 300% sure that my company won't pay $400/year for a small graphing applet.
I know there was a jarsigner in earlier jdk's but got eliminated for v 1.5 and seems like the only way around it is thru companies.
Any idea? -
No JRE version found in launch file for this system
Hi,
I have an application which is launched by JWS.
When we use JWS from 1.4, it runs fine. But JWS from 1.5.0_15 gives the error "No JRE version found in launch file for this system"
In both the JWS(1.4 and 1.5.0_15)cases, we install JRE1.5.0_15 using the installer and used for invoking the application.
We invoke mailclient.jnlp, which inturn invokes the installer.jnlp and KanaJreInstaller.asp

Does it list it with the entire string "KANA1.5.0_15" or is is just listed as "1.5.0_15"?
Because this line from the JNLP file..
<j2se version="KANA1.5.0_15" href="KanaJreInstaller.asp"/>..had me convinved it was a non-Sun JRE. Not so much the href, but most especially the version attribute.
If it really is the Sun JRE, I would expect this to work.
<j2se version="1.5.0_15" href="KanaJreInstaller.asp"/>And as an aside. If this installer is giving you trouble and the app. requires the 1.5.0_15 JRE, why not simply the default Sun JRE installer? What advantages do you think this installer offers? -
How to catch Exception inside the native code
Hello,
I have an error of unexpected exception during running native code,it occurrs randomly, not every time.
the error text is:
An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
Unexpected Signal : 11 occurred at PC=0x9535F359
Function=acy_match+0xC6
Library=/usr/lib/libNegativeMatcher.so
I don't know what exactly cause the crash inside the c code but I think it might be memory leak . What I'm concern is that this exception cause program termination.
I have few questions:
1. This exception cause the java program to end. How can I catch this exception and avoid program termination?
2. What is 0xC6 in:
Function=acy_match+0xC6
and PC=0x9535F359?
Can it help me track the problem inside the native code?
Thanks for your help.An unexpected exception has been detected in native

I have few questions:
1. This exception cause the java program to end. How
can I catch this exception and avoid program
termination?I suspect that would be a really bad idea. That particular signal very likely indicates that you have corrupted memory. Continuing is unlikely to work.
2. What is 0xC6 in:
As a guess it is an offset into the compiled code which indicates where the memory problem was detected.
That it unlikely to help you with a pointer/memory problem because that is where it was detected and not where it happened. By comparing the source you might be able to determine what was bad and then trace it back. -
Any bad side-effects to lengthy blocking in native code? (Win32,Linux,Solar
1) Are there any negative side-effects to having one (or maybe a few) Java threads block for an extended period (e.g. hours) in native code? Naturally the thread would NOT be one of the "special" threads (such as the Swing event dispatcher, etc).
2) Does the answer vary by platform? I'm interested in Win32, Linux and possibly Solaris (in that order).
3) What if I scale the number of threads blocked in JNI code up to 100 threads. Does that change any of the answers? This is perhaps a silly number, I'm just trying to understand if more resources are consumed by blocking in the JNI as opposed to blocking in Java.
4) Do modern JVM's use one native thread per Java thread? If so, then I would guess there is really nothing special about blocking in native code.
Motivation for query -- In my application I need to interface with legacy C++ code that blocks (mostly on socket and i/o selects). I'm not thrilled about native code, but if there are no serious side-effects to extended blocking, it may be a viable approach.1) Are there any negative side-effects to having one

So if the thread 1 needs the code written in the native.dll the thread 1 will use
the first instance of native.dll. So let's say this is blocked.
Then after 2 hours another thread called thread2 calls the native.dll code. Then
java ask the OS to create another instance of the native.dll and so on.
So now there are 2 threads and 2 instances of the dll in the memory.
All these apply to the Win32 OSs.

If your machine could suffer 100 pure java threads then it is not a problem to be some of them JNI ones.

Hi all,
I have an application which I deploy with webstart and includes native code. This all works perfectly with webstart. I now want to deploy it as an applet. This works accept for the native code. I have done heaps of searching and cannot determine the most appropriate way to make the native code visible to the applet.
Ultimately I am at the point where i recieve a UnsatisfiedLinkError when calling loadLibrary(...) for the native code. Currently i have the native code (dll's for windows, so's for Solaris etc) in independent jars which are also signed (as needed for webstart).
Could anyone give me some advise or a reference to more info on this topic.
I am using Java 1.5 and am happy to use 1.6 if neccessary.
Thanks,
DaveAndrew - of course you were correct about the signed cert - I misspoke when the CA signed applet didn't show a warning. (You were also right that I must have checked 'always accept' the certificate on the server I had the CA signed cert on).
I think you guys are on to something about the privileged actions. It would explain where one popup has the icon and the other doesn't. We have Javascript making calls into the applet and we do use JNI (although I don't think there are any calls back). We do wrap these calls in privileged actions but maybe we missed something. What I've seen before is a security exception is thrown if we don't wrap them - but maybe there are areas where we don't and it doesn't throw an exception or it does and we eat it somehow (and for whatever reason doesn't cause anything noticeable).
Now that I know it could likely be the applet code and not necessarily a build issue with signing the jars, I have another place to look...
I'll check it out and let you know what I find. -
An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
I thought that my problem had been solved yesterday when I managed to run my application with out getting "An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM."
I was told to uninstall "j2sdk1.4.1_02" and install my old version of 1.3.1 and then completely remove that (as i do not think i removed it correctly in the first place), then reinstall my new version again (j2sdk1.4.1_02). This appeared to work, and my application ran. However, today i planned to do more work on it and it errored again. I am getting the following error:

I am now not sure at all why my computer is doing this, as it worked yesterday...
Any light shed on this matter is much appreciated.
Thanks, MikeWelcome to native code hell! The reason we all use Java is because
native code sucks. It is to be isolated and quarantined to the smallest
area possible.
File a TAR/SR. Maybe you just need a newer vesion of the OCI client
libraries on your machine. Maybe they are out of sync with the native
portion of the type-2 driver.
Say why you went from type-4 to type-2. In my opinion, unless you have
a very good reason, you should go back to the reliable java driver. Java
can't kill a JVM.
Good luck,

Tutorial or code sample in creating a .exe for windows
Hi all,
Can some kind soul guide me to a tutorial / materials / code sample in creating a .exe (for a java program) to run in windows ?
My intention is to create a .exe such that when it is clicked, the java program runs.
thanks a bundle.Java in not intended to compile into system executables. IMO, you should not do this, let your application remain cross-platform. You can simply make an executable JAR file, which makes your application run with a double-click on any system which have a JRE installed.
Anyway, if you really want to help M$ solidify their work, search the forum. It has been asked and answered several times. You have two options:
1. Bundle a version of JRE with your application, and create an executable file which runs your application on the bundled JRE.
2. Use a native code compiler like ( http://www.excelsior-usa.com/jet.html ).
Also, try these:

I seriously hope I posted this in the right forum, there was so many, and it was confusing. Please forgive me if I didn't.
Anyways, I was playing a online game, RuneScape, when my browser suddenly closed. Later on, I finally noticed that there was a notepad document on my desktop:

XA jDriver for Oracle problem : Getting native code exception
Hi,
I'm getting a native code exception which causes the Weblogic server to crash when
using XA drivers for transaction with two oracle databases. My application uses RMI
and threads.
I'm using BEA's jDriver for Oracle running under Weblogic server 6.1 sp1 talking
to Oracle 8.1.6. The OS is Solaris 2.8.
In middle of the program execution it's giving this problem. I'm using jdk131 in
solaris platform.
Any idea what's going on here ?
Thanks,
Nagoor Haja

Slava,
In my case, I'm not spawning any threads.

Hi,
I'm getting a native code exception which causes the Weblogic server
to
crash when
using XA drivers for transaction with two oracle databases. Myapplication
uses RMI
and threads.
I'm using BEA's jDriver for Oracle running under Weblogic server 6.1sp1
talking
to Oracle 8.1.6. The OS is Solaris 2.8.
In middle of the program execution it's giving this problem. I'm
using
jdk131 in
solaris platform.
Any idea what's going on here ?
Thanks,

What meaNing is the error: "detected in native code outside the VM"
Hi,
I am trying to run dbca to create database(10.2.0.1 for Linux x86) in RHEL5 beta2, after I click the OK button on the parameter confirmon window, will display the Java exception:
detected in native code outside the VM
How resolve the problem?
Thanks!Hi, Avi:
The the "install forum" has reply me, but error is same. entire error message and stack trace as following, I no install JDK or JRE now, because I think the db10g already has a jre and some lib.
An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.

EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION exception has been detected in native code outs
Here is my error :
# An EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
# Program counter=0x502032cf
Problem I have though is the app will run fine on 1 PC, but the same installation on another causes this. OS == NT ( i don't know too much about NT)
Not really sure what to do about this one, really grateful for any advice.
ThxIt most windows JNI code an ACCESS_VIOLATION indicates a memory problem: buffer overwrite, underwrite, dereference a null pointer, etc.
I would suggest going through the JNI code and put in more error checking: return values from methods, check for non-null input params, etc.

UTF8, UTF-16 & Cloudscape
