Native Mac alternative to Adobe Reader Pro

Hello people,
I'm looking after an alternative to Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro, through which i can create custom forms with fixed text and text fields (that not only can accept text input but in some cases show possible options from drop down menus) kinda like a smart PDF form.
I don't like using Adobe products at all and pretty much have a grudge on Adobe. The alternative doesn't really even need PDF support but if it can export to PDF that might be a plus. I use PDFPen Pro but that doesn't do what i explained above.
Was also looking at Filemaker (yes i know it's a DB app) in a possible conjunction with PDF Manipulator plugin but i don't think that will help me do what i need to accomplish. The end goal would be to create a dozen PDF, or whatever format, forms that can simplify the work in my small business, since we do work with a lot of repetitive documents that need change only in some small parts.
Do you guys have any idea?
Thanks

There's no such thing as Adobe Reader Pro. There is Adobe Acrobat, which creates PDFs and Adobe Reader which reads PDFs. Finding an alternative to Acrobat might be difficult in that Adobe owns the PDF format. PDFPen is the only one I've heard of, but I'm not really in the market for that software.
If you are looking for another format to use in-house, that may be possible, but I don't know of any.
I have worked in the Air Force for over 20 years. In that time I've seen them go through various iterations of Form creation and filling software. Every time I've had to ask myself, "why don't we just use Acrobat?" I don't know if it is a licensing thing, but we license all of Microsoft, so I'm not sure that's the answer.
An in-house database solution would likely work for the small number of forms you need. So would Mail Merge in Word. You can create fill-in forms in Word, also. It will do dropdown menu selections, check boxes, etc.

  • Any Mac alternatives to DVD Studio PRO 4

Are there any Mac alternatives to DVD Studio PRO 4.
Well, besides iDVD.   It seems like many are switching to Windows to author DVDs and Blu-ray's.  I'd rather not do that.  Any suggestions?

The only Mac alternative at that level is Adobe Encore. It is no longer being developed but continues to be supported, To get it you need to subscribe to the Premiere Creative Cloud product. Encore is a separate download.

  • Mac version of Adobe IX Pro

I just purchased the Mac version of Adobe IX Pro and can't get it to open on my mac. Any advice?
I see the icon on the upper right corner of my screen but I can't get it to open.

Moving this discussion to the Acrobat Installation & Update Issues forum.
Do you receive any specific error messages?  What version of Mac OS are you using?

  • Quellenverweis bei Adobe Reader Pro 9.4.0

    Hallo liebe Leute,

    P.S.:
Ein Produkt mit dem Namen "Adobe Reader Pro" existiert nicht.

  • Adobe Reader Pro 9 requires password for every user after seciurity updates?

Everytime I installe any Adobe Reader Pro seciurity updates like 9.4.3 and 9.4.4 on our Macs 10.6.6 and 10.6.7,
I had to input admin password for every user as reader is stoppng on install updates screen,
We have some hotmacs that are shared so it's a bit of a pain. Users don't have admin acess
to be able to install software on them.
    How do I resolve this?
Here's what I tried. None of these things resolved the problem for me.
    Repair disk permissions.
    Restart the Mac.
    Repair Adobe installation

Hi Sorry, the product in qusitons is Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.4 and 9.3.4 updates.
If you launch Acrobat Pro as the admin user, then authorise when requested, does that fix the problem for all users?
Or does this happen every time, for each user?
It does prompt for password for every user, thefore my flustration we have multiple editors using a Hotmac.
And we have to enter the password at least one time for every user after stupid seciurity update.
Presumably, Acrobat is trying to write to a location that Standard users don't have permission for.
Standard users don't have admin access to Mac but still I find adobe behevior very annoying.
I think this is normal enterpirse practise.
What happens if you allow write access to the Acrobat application folder and subcontents? Make sure you know what you're doing and how to restore it.
Would try this but still I would expect adobe to fix it updates.
    Thanks,

I downloaded trial of Adobe Reader Pro 9. I need to fill in PDF forms for my job. I can't type anything in them. I enabled "Typewriter" but still can't type in them. Do I need to download an old Acrobat 7 or something to do this? Help! I need to do this by Monday (Dec 29).

There is no such thing. Check to see what you downloaded then get back to us for advice.

  • Adobe Reader / Pro XI bug with PDF as embedded object in Microsoft Excel

We are using Adobe Reader and Adobe Pro version 11.0.06, Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, with a mixture of MS Office 2010 and 2013.
We have been able to reproduce a bug using Reader/Pro together with Excel, where Reader/Pro freezes when we preform the following tasks.
Open an Excel file where a PDF file is attached as an object in the spreadsheet
Double click and open the PDF file attached, PDF is opened in Adobe Reader/Pro
From Adobe Reader/Pro, click on the document on the Page Thumbnails, scroll the document up and down for a few times
Close the Adobe Reader/Pro, it freezes and the adobe process is starting to consume the system memory
This problem is happening on multiple machines with Adobe Reader/Pro 11.0.06 installed, regardless of the Office version and is reproducible. We did not see such issue on Adobe X.
Is there anyone reported the same?

    Hello,
I know this problem was reported many months ago, but I am also experiencing this exact same issue, and have found no resolution to it yet. My user has a simple PDF embedded into an Excel 2010 document. Double click the PDF and it opens properly in Acrobat. If I close Acrobat, Excel freezes in the background (not responding). I have to force quit Excel to get back to Excel.
Also, if I double click on Acrobat again to re-open the application, it won't open. If I check Task Manager after Excel crashes, I can see that Acrobat.exe is still running in memory, and I have to force-quit it before I can re-open Acorbat.
    Any progress on this issue?

  • Creating Hyperlink in Adobe Reader Pro 9

I am trying to create a Hyperlink within a pdf with Adobe Reader Pro 9.  The way I understand it is that you are suppose to highlight the text to be used as the hyperlink and use the tool function that looks like two chain links together.  The problem is that that tool is greyed out so that I cannot use it.  I have opened multiple documents and they are all like this.  Can anyone tell me what the issue is?

First, we need to know what product you actually have. There is no Adobe Reader Pro 9. There is Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Pro. Reader cannot create links or edit PDF files. Acrobat can.

  • Problem with virtualized Adobe Reader Pro!!!

We have Virtualized Adobe Reader Pro 10.0  with MS application Virtualized 5.0.  Users are facing issue to open write-protected pdf with the virtualized adobe while they can open normal pdf with the same virtualized adobe. Any hints that we might consider for this issue – in the way what happens in the back-end when a write-protected document is opened? Also does Adobe has any policy when it comes to virtualisation?

Adobe Reader 11.0.1 and later are the only supported versions of Adobe Reader that are currently supported.

  • Adobe Reader Pro -

    Hello,
I have signed into our trial account of the Adobe Reader Pro-
I have selected a PDF Document to Convert to Excel....
    Once I click on CONVERT
I get the message An Error Occurred while signing in....
However I have signed in ok and been able to select the documents to convert....
Why would I be getting this message?
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi nrpenny,
It sounds as though you may not have the most current version of Adobe Reader. Please choose Help > Check for Updates in Reader and install any available update. The 11.0.07 update should alleviate this sign-in error.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Scam email: Adobe-Reader-Pro

A variation on an old scam was received this morning by the company that I work for.  At first glance it looks genuine by its simplicity but has anyone ever heard of Adobe Reader Pro?  There is the official looking logo and even an address in California but simple checks can confirm the scam. I am told that clicking on the links will result in a bunch of malware being installed into your computer.  Below is the text from the message received this morning:

  • Activate Adobe Reader Pro 9

    How To Activate

    Confusion.
There is no such thing as "Adobe Reader Pro 9". Consequently that which does not exist cannot be activated.
If the application that is actually in use is any version of Adobe Reader there is no activation required for this free PDF viewer application provided by Adobe.
If the application that is actually in use is Acrobat Pro 9 then install issues may be related to the fact that the version "9" product family passed into End of Support mid-year of 2013.
Regardless the place to ask after Acrobat related install / update issues is at:

  • Edit pdf with Adobe Reader Pro XI?

How do I edit a PDF file with Adobe Reader Pro XI?

"How" very much depends on what exactly you want to achieve.  Basically you open it in Acrobat, then use the tools to edit it.  You may need to perform text recognition (OCR) if the document is a scanned image.
If you need details how to do certain edits, you better ask in the Acrobat forum (Creating, Editing & Exporting PDFs).
