Natural scroll for scrollbars as well as mouse

Natural scroll moves the content instead of the viewport. – Great, I love it!
However the scrollbars still move the viewport over the content. – This is confusing and muddies the otherwise great new way of scrolling.
I would like for the scrollbar to act on the content instead of the viewport. And I would love it if I could just grab the content wherever and drag it, just like on a touch device.
Is this currently possible, either with apple settings or with third party software?
If not, what's the best way to suggest this as a new feature in an update?

Thanks for the link. I posted this as a suggested improvement.
Still hoping for a quick fix while apple thinks it over though.

  • Can't find the option for natural scrolling

I just updated to Lion and am unable to get used to scrolling in the oposite direction.  According to other discussions, there should be an option in system preferences to check or uncheck natural scrolling but I can't find that option.  I am using a wired microsoft mouse.  The option to change scrolling is not under "mouse" or under "microsoft mouse."  Is there any other place to look?

The option your looking for is for the Magic Mouse and the Trackpad only.

  • Wireless mighty mouse horiz. scroll for some software

The horizontal scroll on my new wireless mighty mouse seems to work for some programs (Safari) just fine; for others (Melody maker) only on the scrollbar and for others (MS Word) not at all. Any ideas?

Yes you need to install the software to allow your Mac to properly recognise all the features of the BT Mighty Mouse.
I've got the exact same setup and just obtained a Wireless Mighty Mouse - all I had to do was install the software on the CD, reboot (the first reboot will take a little while), and follow the instructions on either the CD or one of the small enclosed booklets that you should have in your box.

  • Natural scrolling mouse option not available, stuck with it on

I am using Mac OS X Lion and this morning my mouse reversed it's scrolling behavior, I want to disable this but all my searching says to go to System Preferences > Mouse and uncheck natural scrolling.
I do not have this option available on the Mouse settings page, I only have options for Tracking Speed, Double-Click Speed, and left/right as primary button. Is there a console command I can try to fix this or some other way to have scrolling work properly?

    Hello,
This is very strange, I never saw an action on the slide level as you have in the Advanced Interaction view. Even when you have an action on Enter (or Exit) it is not mentioned over there. Reason is that this panel displays only all kind of scoreable objects (click boxes, buttons, TEB's, question slides and interactive widgets. The On Enter and On Exit events for slides are not scoreable, cannot be displayed here. This panel is read-only, no way to change something like the URL, and I would also doubt it will have effect. I think something is corrupted here.
Perhaps tell 'when' you want to display the URL? If it is right on entering the second slide (in your example), add this action to the On Enter event for that slide. There is already a similar action triggered by the button on the first slide (same as the 'ghost' action). If you let know what you want to achieve, perhaps we can help.

  • Can you enable natural scrolling on touchpad, but disable it while using a mouse?

Just got a Macbook Pro with Lion, which I am enjoying very much, but this also means natural scrolling is enabled by default.
This makes a lot of sense to me on the touchpad, as I also have a smartphone, and scrolling works the exact same way on that; you slide things off the screen.
BUT for some reason Lion tells itself, that while I have natural scrolling activated on touchpad, it should also activate it in my mousesettings, which is very annoying, as it doesn't fell natural at all. And every time i disable it for mouse, it also disables on touchpad and vice versa.
Is there a way to just enable it for touchpad? I simply can't get used to it on the scrolling weel, as I've grown too used to the traditional way while browsing and doing work in Photoshop/Illustrator.
It's a Microsoft mouse btw, if this could help resolve the issue somehow.

this is an old thread, and probably closed, but you can download an application like scroll reversor, it lets you choose individual directions for your mouse and trackpad, (and tablet, but you didn't mention one)

  • Other scrolling for mouse than trackpad?

    Dear Apple-experts,
When OS X Lion came out, I had to get used to "natural scrolling". Simply because my iPhone uses natural scrollng too, I love natural scrolling on the trackpad really fast.
However; I asked myself: isn't it possible to get the 'backwards scrolling' back in the wheel on my mouse, but get the natural scrolling on my trackpad?
I hope to hear from you soon.
    Greetings,
    Robin

I already tried that, but when uncheck that option, it will be also unchecked in the Trackpad options.
So swiping between other desktops on Mission Control is now un-natural, but scrolling is un-natural (as I wanted)
    Trackpad: natural
    Mouse: un-natural

  • "Natural scrolling" messed up in recent Yosemite update

I updated to a newer version of OSX Yosemite about a week ago, and ever since, natural scrolling has been working incorrectly. Now, my horizontal scrolling/gestures work properly according to natural scrolling, but my vertical scrolling is backwards. "Natural scrolling" is still checked in System Preferences. I'm on a 13-inch MBP Mid-2012.

    Hi..
I dnt get anything when i see the error, its like somewhere standard error. And are you trying to scroll horizontal or vertical scroll?
Any way, we can achieve scrolling through one application parameter called wdtablenavigation and its value is SCROLLBAR.
then you will get scroll bar for all tables in your component.
Once you double click on appplication, you will find parameters tab, there pass the above values.

  • Is there a large, clear desk pad suitable for use with the Magic Mouse?

My well-loved Magic Mouse will not track on my clear, 36" X 24" desk pad and, thus, I'm looking to replace it with  a clear desk pad at least as large, but suitable for use with the Magic Mouse.  Currently, I'm using an extra-large Wowpad for my mouse.  Would a clear, matte desk pad work as well as the Wowpad with my Magic Mouse, or must I continue to use the Wowpad and seperate desk pad?  All suggestions grartefully accepted!

  • I can't scroll left to right using my mouse wheel.  any suggestions?

I can't scroll left to right using my mouse wheel.  any suggestions?

It is possible in InDesign CS6, and frankly I would prefer it to the panning which I have used and is just not quite as convenient for what i am doing.  I am scrolling through multiple pages not within a single page. it would just be nice to have the same functions in an "upgraded" version.

How do I remove an unwanted toolbar?  I added a radio station to my ibook and it set up its own toolbar so when I go to Safari I have to use it.  It involves using Bing for everything as well.  It's very annoying and I want to remove it.  I can't just type in a URL and have it go to the site.  It takes me to all of Bing's choices.  Also, when it anticipates what I'm typing (incorrectly) and I have to delete it's guesses all the time.  Can anyone help?

Have you looked at Safari's menu bar > view> toolbars to see if it can be unchecked from there, also see if there is a button to collapse the toolbar on the bar itself.
