Nautilus doesn't preview sound files

Hi everyone.
Why "preview sound files" isn't working in Gnome 2.12.2? Do you know if I need some add-on?

First make sure esd is installed
pacman -S esd
, and make sure esd is running on startup ( Desktop -> Preferences -> Multimedia system selector (if it doesn't exist look for something with multimedia or sound, i have Gnome 2.14 and those things have changed AFAIK) -> Check "turn on sound"
now install mpg321
pacman -S mpg321
Now logout/login (or reboot) and it should work

I can't audition sound files in the little preview application. It's not grey, the button changes from play to stop, but the sound file won't play. It only plays if I drop it on the time line. Got any suggestions?

Quicklook doesn't preview .docx files

QuickLook works great on .doc files but doesn't work on .docx files.

All pdf attachments can be previewed inside MS Outlook by installing same plug-in. By using Adobe Reader, all pdf attachments can be previewed separately (i.e. downloading). However the need is call to export outlook emails to pdf with attachments, you can go through an automated app. A standalone application that I used does not require MS Outlook and Adobe Acrobat any more to export Outlook emails to pdf with attachments.

Sound file doesn't s

Hello everybody,
I've written a program in Borland Delphi 5, which controls the sound output with DirectX 9.0c. In this program, i'm starting a sound file (.wav), that doesn't stops after playing it. I've got a "SoundBlaster Li've! 24-Bit" installed. Does anybody know if this could be a driver issue? Cause I can't reproduce the bug on other hardware configurations with OnBoard sound for example.

Are you using DirectSound functions? If DSBPLAY_LOOPING is set (such as for accessing the primary buffer) in the call to Play, you'd need to call :Stop to end the sound. A while back, I programmed an application directly using DirectSound, but I found that C++ sound functions are easier :-) But YMMV.Message Edited by Katman on 05-30-200704:46 PM

I'm trying to e-mail music scores and audios, but I receive an error message saying Preview doesn't recognize the file format, regardless whether I use .mus, .pdf, or .mp3. I haven't come across Preview or this problem before. Any suggestions?

Firstly, your country is detemined by several factors, including your phone's regional settings, your SIM card and your NokiaAccount settings, if you used this phone whilst abroad then you may need to check that your regional and account settings are up to date since you have arrived in Canada.
For services like Gigs, you should also ensure that the MixRadio app has access to your phone's GPS location as well as the main location being on in the phone settings. To check this, as well as Location being turned on in the phone settings, in MixRadio itself go to Settings>Location>On:
The concern with favourites may also be related to location, if the music from certain artists is available in Canada but not where the service might think you are, availability of content may vary from region to region.
If all settings in both the phone, your Nokia Account and the MixRadio app are correct, we may have to investigate deeper.
It is impossible to comment on your camera without seeing it, you cold have the phone checked by Nokia Care locally, but of course if it was supplied in Europe it will be covered by the European Limited Warranty which is not valid in Canada.

Why won't my sound files play in preview?

I have created a Keynote slideshow for a new course on an iMac, and I am trying to preview it in iTunes U on an iPad. For each slide of the show I imported a sound file of my lecture, which I recorded in Garageband. When I open iTunes U on my iPad, I find the course just fine. Then I find the new POSTS and click on one of them. The slide show opens nicely on the iPad, but there is no sound and no sound on-off button.
Where did my sound files go? How do I access them on iTunes U?

[Solved] Preview RAW files on Nautilus

How do I set nautilus to as a preview RAW files? I have since I show the previews, but I not display them.
Earlier in Debian and LMDE I can display them

PE-10 Cannot hear sound files in preview, editing, or final movie. Works fine outside PE-10.

While editing a movie, the sound attached to video files plays fine. When I import other sound files (such as wav files), they will not play in the preview, editing, or final movie. I've tested the files to make sure they are fine (yes).
I've tried them in each audio/sound section and they won't play anywhere. I've checked setting to make sure audio is enabled.
Please help. I assume something is not set correctly.

Well, if you've got Audacity, you can make them good!
Just Export your file as a new WAV file. Audacity will output the new file with specs that Premiere Elements can work with!

Preview doesn't show JPG files

I keep having problems viewing JPG files in Preview. The image displays in the Finder, it displays in the thumbnail view for 'Downloads" and it will even appear in the sidebar for Preview if I choose to show the sidebar, but it does not appear in the Preview main window.
I tried deleting the com.apple.Preview.plist file as recommended in an old thread, but it didn't help.

Unable to preview sound in timeline

I have a sound file (.mp3) that I would like to animate to. I am attempting to preview several frames in the timeline to see how my animation is syncing up as I work on it, but no sound plays in the timeline. Doing a publish/preview every time I want to check it doesn't seem like the best option. I've tried CS4 and CS5 and it's the same result in both. I'm curious as to what I am missing, or do you animators out there do something different?

Convert a Classic (sfil/movr) Finder sound file?

I just stumbled across a sound file I saved more than ten years ago, what seems to be called a "System 7 Finder Sound." It's basically a resource-fork-only file with a 'snd ' resource.
I actually may have a machine capable of running Classic, but I'd rather not. Is there a way, under 10.5 Intel, to convert this file into a usable sound? QuickTime Player and GarageBand both refuse to open it.

This addresses my question, but doesn't fully solve my problem. Playing the sound is nice, but I'd also like to convert it into a form I can (for instance) play as a preview in the Finder, without the need for a special-purpose utility.
Is there such an application? I'd much prefer free- or sample-ware, as I need this for only two or three files.

Previewing Sound In Logic!

When working in a higher sample rate. You can't really preview your audio like in protools. Why is this? The audio is gonna be really sped up due to old Sample Rate. is there a way to listen to preview converted to whatever sample rate your working, meaning that... it let's you hear what it sounds like at it's original?

You can always preview sounds in Finder: select audio file(s), press Space, and then navigate using arrow keys if you want to preview multiple files.

How do I get a handle on embedded sound files?

From the Sound Class information, it says to use the SoundMixer Class to handle embedded Sound Files. I have two sound files embedded, that I have setup in 2 separate layers, starting at frame one in the main timeline. I needed to do this so I could see the wave files, and coordinate text with the waves. I do not want to load these files into the .swf file at runtime using URLRequest. How do I get a handle on those as they exist, to make each controllable by separate volume and mute controls for each sound?
This will be a challenging question, because, "it can't be done" doesn't work for me. I managed to create a way to use an external classfile to control the main timeline, the ROOT timeline, without having to create a sub movie to root. I can use my component to call play(); as though it were in code in a frame. But it isn't, it's in an external classfile. I passed root to the classfile and told the classfile to think of it as a movieclip - that put the handle on it. I tried similar way with root as a Sound, but that isn't detailed enough - I need to get a handle on the frame that contains the embedded sound file. I embedded, attached it, using the properties view for the frame.
I've attached, or whatever you want to call it, these sound files to a frame, and this frame is or should be attached to the layer I've created. So, under the assumption that the ROOT has everything attached to it in some manner (it is after all the foundation for the COM), the stage of the root contains the visual components, so ROOT has to have the layer objects attached to it, which should have the frame objects attached to the layers. I have two layers that each have a .wav file attached to frame one. Somehow Flash keeps track of that - I want to know how Flash does it so I can read what flash reads.
If this seems redundant, it probably is. I want to paint the best picture I know how so I can get detailed feedback. Please, if you have questions ask them so we can clarify, and get this resolved! Thanks for reading!

Nautilus doesn't open a new window when clicked

For a while now, I have been experiencing an annoying issue.
Whenever I open Nautilus either by clicking the icon in the drawer (example: http://i.imgur.com/uZc3n7S.png) or by hitting "Super" (the Windows key) and typing nautilus+enter, Nautilus doesn't create a new window anymore. Instead, it just shows "Files" in the top bar, as seen here: http://i.imgur.com/Ho2nJhv.png
I can open a Nautilus window by clicking on the "Files" item in the top bar and clicking "New Window", as seen here: http://i.imgur.com/7IrWqvr.png
Also, whenever my desktop is focused, the "Files" item is visible in the top bar. In the drawer, the Nautilus icon is always highlighted as well. This leads me to believe that GNOME thinks Nautilus is already open, while it is not.
Note that I have enabled my desktop to be managed by Nautilus, so I can have icons on my desktop. I'm not sure, but if I recall correctly, this problem started ever since the one time I ran gnome-settings-daemon manually, to test if a certain bug still exists.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue? How could I track down why this is happening?

Gnome-shell issue. You can disable desktop management as a temporary fix, but the next gnome-shell update will fix the problem.
