Nautilus is not working in gnome3

Hello everyone, I'm trying to open a nautilus window in gnome3 but it's not working and I don't know what's going on. I've some folders in Desktop and I can open nautilus there but in Activities --> Files nothing happens.
In the terminal I run nautilus and still is not working, no error, nothing...
I don't know what it's happening because it was working in gnome3, I don't know whether a recent upgrade broke something.
Thanks in advance

Well I really didn't know it was a compatibility issue. You're right, I installed gnome-tweak-tool but I don't know what did I check to obtain this behaviour.

    Try adding

That still seems to work for me.  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=117875

  • SMB working in Nautilus, not working anywhere else

Hi, I want to use smb to connect to windows server inside domain. When I use Nautilus, everything works fine. But when I try to use some other application with smb, it does not work. I tried krusader, got into point where password dialog is shown, but when I input password, dialog just reapears never signing me in. I tried Gnome Commander, but when i click Connections -> Go to: Samba Network, i got message Failed to browse network. Is the SMB module installed? I tried Midnignht Commander, but when I click SMB link... and insert username, password and address i got Cannot chdir to: "/smb://username@address". Can somebody help me? I want to use some file manager, because Nautilus is not my cup of tea. Thank you.

Ok, so I managed to do some progress. Using:
    sudo mount -t cifs //172.28.6.50/Temp /mnt/smb -o user=rstasta
I got that folder mounted in /mnt/smb. But now when I try to copy something inside that folder or create new item, i get Permission denied (13). Wiki says, that I should use option "sec=ntlmv2", but when I try to do that, I get:
Mar 10 11:36:46 archlinux sudo[10472]: pam_unix(sudo:session): session opened for user root by rstasta(uid=0)

  • GNOME3 is not working well after install the nvidia driver

I changed my graphic device from intel (integrated in i5 sandy bridge) to nvidia (GTX550 Ti).
When I reboot my PC, an error about GNOME failed something was showned.
I ignored it and installed nvidia package using pacman.
After that, I installed new nvidia driver but GNOME is not working properly.
Terminals which I can see when type ctrl + alt + function key are not working either.
This is part of my desktop screenshot.
    http://s18.postimage.org/gew6dx5gp/screenshot.png
    How can I restore GNOME?

I have no big issues with gnome3 and nvidia, in case you haven't, make sure your xorg.conf is correct or you can let nvidia make it for you, just backup/delete your current one (if any) https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … figuration

  • Nautilus does not show Tracker search results

    Hi,
I recently installed tracker and had it index my files. After indexing had finished, I tried tracker-search and tracker-needle, both of which returned the files I was looking for. But in Nautilus, searching via CTRL+F still only returns files whose filenames are matching my query. Nautilus does not seem to integrate Tracker search results properly, as it should according to this forum thread. Tagging files via the tracker-tags plugin in Nautilus works just fine. Re-installing nautilus did not change anything.
Any ideas what could be the problem here?
    Thanks,
    mfs

Hmm, I think it is supposed to use tracker if installed. At least nautilus has a build option called enable-tracker which is set to auto by default (I also compiled it with enable-tracker=yes but nothing changed). Also, "wonder" said in the thread quoted above that nautilus would use tracker and find only as fallback.

  • Audio Stopped Working after Gnome3 Install

I assume PulseAudio may have something to do with this, but audio works neither from within Gnome nor from without - no sound. Another thread (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116712) suggested changing the output settings in Gnome, so I changed the only thing I could ("Connector") from "Analog Headphones" to "Analog Output", which then provided feedback when attempting to play sound - this behavior makes sense, but I tried it anyway per suggestion. I am running an Nvidia sound card which alsamixer identifies as "HDA Nvidia".
I was able to get a sound to play by manually specifying a device:
    aplay -D front /usr/share/sounds/error.wav
Now aplay works without specifying a device again, but other applications (like MPD) and anything graphical do not work. The error from mpc is "ERROR: problems opening audio device" (with or without the pulse audio output uncommented).
For what it's worth, "pacmd list" does list my sound card, and:
    joshua ~ $ fuser -v /dev/snd/*
    USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
    /dev/snd/controlC0: joshua 1550 F.... pulseaudio
    joshua ~ $ fuser -v /dev/dsp
    joshua ~ $
    Any ideas?
    Update (17 Apr, 19:46 PST):
Logging into KDE, Phonon with a Xine backend seems to work a little magic. Now, aplay, mplayer, and the graphical players work without tweaking. But MPD still does not. So, in summary: on boot to init 3, no sound; in Gnome 3, no sound; in KDE, sound from most applications.
    What is going on here?

Ok. Yes, pulse is started in Gnome (and in KDE). It also auto-respawns when I kill it, so I have to be very quick in adding the log-level argument.
So here's where we are. I log in to tty1 on boot, no pulse running (obviously), I "xinit gnome", open a terminal, and "mpc error.wav" produces no sound. Then:
    joshua ~ $ killall pulseaudio
    joshua ~ $ pulseaudio --log-level=error
Starts up fine, nothing at all reported. So, I open a new tab, run some commands and voila: sound works perfectly in aplay and mplayer but not MPD. Why does it work now? Back on tab 1, pulseaudio still has reported no issue. On tab 2, I run "mpc play", which produces no error this time, but also produces no sound. So I try aplay and mplayer again and they no longer work. Kill pulse, restart it. Rinse and repeat, same result.
So, fine, Gnome3 from testing has some quirks - I knew what I was getting into when I installed it. And I know that MPD and pulse do not always get along. But - and please forgive my pulse ignorance here - when I am not in Gnome3 and pulse isn't running (and even the X server isn't running), why would MPD not work on the alsa output that's configured by default and that worked prior to the install of Gnome3?
    Thanks!
Edit: A couple typos: Should be "aplay error.wav" and not "mpc error.wav". And on log in to the tty, aplay produces no sound then either. And the MPD question at the end is also for aplay, mplayer, and everything else.

  • [SOLVED] Cinnamon appearance settings not working.

I have a strange problem concerning Cinnamon 2.2.0-1 from [community-testing], in which some appearance settings simply do not work. Specifically, I can't change icons or gtk theme, and making any change in cinnamon-settings has no effect whatsoever on the system. I've tried changing the appearance with lxappearance to some success - now the panel and some Gnome3 applications show the selected theme and icons, but the rest of the applications keep the old appearance settings. I have no .gtkrc files in my home folder and I start Cinnamon from LightDM.
This is the output from running cinnamon-settings from a terminal:

    Confirming @Arachnid92's problem.
I've got a whole raft of problems with the latest update, which I've listed here.
EDIT: I'm going to wait until these two are updated before I start reporting bugs, purely because it may just be that not all the updates have been pushed at the same time.

  • ( SOLVED )gnome-terminal, su, sudo, gksu, gksudo does not work

    Hello,
In my fresh installed gnome3 graphical environment, in gnome-terminal, I can not gain root access.
    I've tried diverse su commands.
    1. su command, ends with:
    su -
    Password:
    su: Authentication failure
    2. sudo command, ends with:
    sudo -l
    [sudo] password for root:
    Sorry, try again.
    [sudo] password for root:
    Sorry, try again.
    [sudo] password for root:
    sudo: 2 incorrect password attempts
Of course - each time, I typed correct password.
In my sudoers file, group wheel ( into which belongs user I logged in ) has permissions to execute any command.
    3. gksudo with debug:
    gksudo -ld gnome-terminal
    No ask_pass set, using default!
    xauth: /tmp/libgksu-stbGos/.Xauthority
    STARTUP_ID: gksudo/gnome-terminal/879-0-Bex_TIME0
    cmd[0]: /usr/bin/sudo
    cmd[1]: -H
    cmd[2]: -S
    cmd[3]: -p
    cmd[4]: GNOME_SUDO_PASS
    cmd[5]: -u
    cmd[6]: root
    cmd[7]: --
    cmd[8]: gnome-terminal
    buffer: -GNOME_SUDO_PASS-
    brute force GNOME_SUDO_PASS ended...
    Yeah, we're in...
    sudo: 1 incorrect password attempt
    xauth: /tmp/libgksu-stbGos/.Xauthority
    xauth_env: /var/run/gdm/auth-for-tangram-9JYTNt/database
    dir: /tmp/libgksu-stbGos
I've been asked for my password, not root, after typing I get "incorrect password attempt", if I type root pwd I get the same.
    4. Same with this command:
    gksu -ld gnome-terminal
    No ask_pass set, using default!
    xauth: /tmp/libgksu-SBPcOB/.Xauthority
    STARTUP_ID: gksu/gnome-terminal/1028-0-Bex_TIME0
    cmd[0]: /usr/bin/sudo
    cmd[1]: -H
    cmd[2]: -S
    cmd[3]: -p
    cmd[4]: GNOME_SUDO_PASS
    cmd[5]: -u
    cmd[6]: root
    cmd[7]: --
    cmd[8]: gnome-terminal
    buffer: -GNOME_SUDO_PASS-
    brute force GNOME_SUDO_PASS ended...
    Yeah, we're in...
    sudo: 1 incorrect password attempt
    xauth: /tmp/libgksu-SBPcOB/.Xauthority
    xauth_env: /var/run/gdm/auth-for-tangram-6RCSoJ/database
    dir: /tmp/libgksu-SBPcOB
In multi-user-mode I can login to root account.

Hurrican, ok, there is no need to install antother terminal, as I wrote it did not work also in xterm.
Yesterday evening, tired and sad that gk(su|sudo) still does not work,
as the "last chance idea", I logged in into multi-user mode ( init level 3 ) and changed root's password,
then loged in into graphical mode ( init level 5 ), start gnome-terminal and suddenly ... command "su -" started to work.
By the way, similar solution ( but with chroot ) has suggested Gulver in his post ( this thread, answer #2 ).
The question is, why root's password, set during install, after finished installation is recognized in text mode, but not im graphical ?
First root's password was really simple, like "dog4356", without any national chars.
You're right. I don't even have xterm installed so I guess I just singled out gnome-terminal and forgot that xterm also wasn't working.
Forgive me for my shaky advice. Like you I've been super busy, and sweating out a fever of 102 degrees (that's Fahrenheit no my
blood wasn't boiling ). Anyways, glad you got it working. After reading over the whole thread and thinking about it for a little bit, I
can't really make a good guess as to what was happening.
I'm sure you probably had tried this, but you could have typed the password out in the command line so you could see it. If there was
something wrong with it, it would have shown up there as well. If it was perfectly fine, then it would have been very, very weird.
The important thing is you got it working.
    Merry Christmas.

    Can anybody tell me why?
    thanks in advance

    Dear Sandy,
Go to V/N1 transaction select your self defined access sequence then go in to the accesses and fields and check all fields are activated.
Make sure that these fields are flowing in your sales order.
I hope this will help you,
