Navbar won't stretch in Darkroom template

Hi,
I made a page using the Darkroom template, and then increased the content width to 850px (from 700px).
But when I stretched the Navbar to the right to fit the new page width, the white outline went across, but the gray fill colour stayed fixed at 700px, leaving an ugly outlined unfilled bit on the right.
Am I doing something wrong or is this just a problem that exists with this template?

This isn't a great solution but one I have been using a lot lately to circumnavigate iWeb shortcomings. The Darkroom nav bar doesn't look too bad if you put a gray box behind it with a .65 point stroke or use the image fill with the photogray_c-1.jpg file. (easiest way to get this is to publish a one page template to a folder then go digging for it)
I have tried to patchwork together a better fix with multiple boxes, you can get it very acceptable looking in iWeb but it falls apart when it's published, things just don't line up quite close enough.
Maybe I'm not picky enough but I think the first solution is acceptable. Have a look at-

Making the "white" template look like the "darkroom" template

my current podcast page is built from the "white" template, but I am re-designing the rest of the site from the "darkroom" template. i do not want to change the template of my podcast page because i don't want to mess with the template on each individual podcast page (there are lots and i like them how they are), but i want the primary podcast page to look as much like the "darkroom" template as possible. is there a way to add the textured background and color of the "darkroom" template to the "white" template so that it blends reasonably well? any other tricks that might help?

You can go to your website and open the Activity window (CommandOptionA) for one of the pages. In that Activity window search for files with "bg" in the file name and double click on it. If that's the textured file drag it to the desktop. You can then use it as the browser background image while the content background is set to none or transparent. That might do what you want.
You won't be able to get the spotlight effect as that's a separate file used by the theme.

Question on darkroom template design feature.

Dear members:
I am working on a web site using the Darkroom template available in iWeb and have a question.
The navigation menu that appears on top of the page(s) is made up of a surrounding frame (thin white line) and a translucent white fill. I am trying to increase the page's layout from the original 700 px content width to something around 800 to 960 px. The problem I have encountered is that although I can select the navigation menu's surround frame and increase its size to match the new content width I can't seem to find a way to do the same with the white translucent fill serving as the background. Do any of you know how I can "stretch" this translucent white fill so that it matches my newly enlarged page layout ?

Thank you for your reply. It has helped me understand a little more about iWeb and the navigation bar.
I tried what you suggested but unfortunately it didn't work. As I past the image and move it so that it occupies the remaining portion of my now enlarged navigation menu, the junction between the existing background and the newly created one becomes visible.
After thinking about it I decided to try something else. I opened the PhotoGraynavbg.png image in Photoshop and made it larger (902 px instead of the original 702 px available in iWeb). I then replaced the existing image with this newly created one. I expected iWeb to use this new image as the background for the navigation menu but unfortunately the size of the background remained the same with the 200 pixels on the right lacking the translucent background (Darkroom's default size is 700 px while my page is 900 px).
Any ideas of what might have happened ? Any suggestions on what I might try next ?

Time Stretch tool won't stretch?

I have a sound effect of an explosion (pulled off web) that I need to time to a visual. The explosion audio is over too quickly, so I need to stretch it. Trouble is, when I click on the time stretch tool, my audio won't stretch beyond it's starting value. I can use the tool to shorten it just fine, but why can't I stretch it longer?
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm sorry, Milo, but if you captured your HDV video over Firewire connection, set up your project for HDV and you're using a 44.1 khz WAV file, you should not have to stretch the audio or the video.
It's possible, I guess, that you're using such an old version of the program (and possibly an older computer) and that it's having trouble playing high-def video at the same speed as it plays your audio. That would mean that they're still in synch -- they're just not playing back in the program at the same speed.
The test for that would be to use Share/Computer/WMV to output your movie (or a portion of it) as is (without changing either the audio or video speed) and seeing if it still loses synch. It really shouldn't.

Won't show custom project template

Hi,
I'm trying to create the simplest possible project template, just to get an idea how it works according to directions in this document. It doesn't appear in the create project dialog. I'm probably missing something obvious, can anyone help?
The attached zip file is my <LAbVIEW data>\ProjectTemplates folder, written in LV14 64 bit. It simply has a project with one VI called Test and the metadata for it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Danielle,
I was able to get your test template to show up in my LabVIEW by changing a couple of things around. In your XML file, I deleted the spaces in between the brackets and added in a couple of "yes" statements. I've attached the working .xml as a .txt file. I changed it around based on some of the existing .xml files that came with LabVIEW. Hope this helps. Have a good day.

Why won't Google Chrome show template page updates to a site I created?

I made template updates to a client site, but Google Chrome will not show the simple update. All other browsers show the update. I've tried clearing cache and reloading page, but still no luck. The website is at:

The update that should be showing is in the upper right of page where the "procoresolutions.Com" link is...the "C" should be lowercased.
Can anyone help me figure this out?

Garageband V. 6.0.5 won't open files or templates

I have Garageband version 6.0.5 and I can't get it to open any files, templates or anything for that matter. It lets me create a file name and then a message pops up saying "The file couldn't be opened." Anyone else run into this problem and have a way to fix it?

This looks like a permissions problem - you either don't have read/write permissions to the GarageBand Template files or to the folder, where you want to write the project to. Also your GarageBand Preferences may be corrupted, or GarageBands caches need clearing.
Remove the folder ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.garageband/ from your User Library, or try HangTime's "oddball problems" fix:

As you probably know, the User Library is hidden since Mac OS X Lion.
You can reveal it from the Finder's "Go" menu in the main menu bar:
Finder > Go
Then hold down to options-key ⌥, until Library appears in the drop-down menu. Select it and open the Library.

Desktop wallpaper won't stretch or tile...

I recently switched to a Dell 24" wide screen, and I have a new 256MB video card that hasn't given me any trouble (I installed it a few months before upgrading the monitor).
When I first plugged the Dell monitor in, everything was fine. The desktop image (one of the Apple Backgrounds) stretched to accommodate the 1900x1200 display resolution.
But the other day I decided to pick a new desktop wallpaper. Now none of the default choices I make are stretching to fit the full screen, not even the one that worked originally.
Also, the solid colors don't stretch or tile. I just get a small square of color in the middle of the monitor. (And I'm a bit surprised to learn that I can't pick just any color for the desktop, it has to be one of the presets...that's really weird coming from Windows land).
I can't figure out how to make the wallpapers work...Any help?
Is it weird that I can do this in a flash on my Windows machines, and on the super-easy Mac I'm totally stumped?

The resolution didn't change. In fact I tried most of the other resolutions, thinking that maybe things would stretch/tile at a lower resolution, but it didn't.

Why won,t some self created templates open

I have in the past created files in numbers, saved them as templates and retrieved them for use later with out any troubles. I can still do this but some templates iv'e created will save as a template but will not load up and get the message The document "nnnsheet.nmbtemplate" could not be opened. Yet I can save it as a numbers file and it works fine.

Try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod again. However, this time redownload the apps directly to the iPod. Do not sync them. Do it one app at a time. Maybe the apps in your iTunes library are corrupted. If you are signed inot the same iTunes account that originally purchased the apps you will not be charged again.

Why won't keynote, pages or templates open?

Since my original purchase of the iWork pack in September I have not once been able to open pages, keynote or templates. I'm very frustrated, everytime I try to open any one of them it tells me there was a problem and they are unable to open. Does anyone know what the heck is happening? I have a late 2010 MacBook Pro

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

Template updates won't affect child pages

I have deleted a broken navbar (with spry menu) on my template that won't leave the child pages. I have repeatedly gone to Modify -> Library -> Update Pages, but the child pages still show the broken navbar.
Most of them, anyway. I haven't checked all 50+ pages, but I did find a few that updated properly and no longer have the defective navbar. The majority, though, won't drop it.
How can I rid my pages of this?! The navbar is (was?) in a non-editable region, so I can't go into the child pages to delete it. And there's nothing left to edit from the template -- I've deleted all the offending code, so there's nothing there to even check.

Thank you, Murray. Somehow, I resolved the problem. Not sure what I did to correct it, or what I did to muck it up in the first place. But in the end, I was able to free up all but one of the pages. So I just copied the content and built a new page.

Ipod won't connect? can't register it either

I just got an ipod nano 3rd gen. today. I downloaded the latest version of itunes, just like the directions said. The songs went to itunes without any problems. The problem is: the ipod screen says connected, eject before disconnecting. The little battery at the top doesn't look like it's charging. It's just white/light gray with a little black plug thing in the center of it.
When I plug the ipod in, it automatically opens itunes. But when you try to find a song on the ipod, it says no songs, no music, no files blah, blah, blah. When I click on the little ipod icon in the list on the left side of itunes, it gives me an option to register the ipod later. It looks like my monitor cuts off the right side of the screen, so I don't know if there's a register now option. I even hooked up another monitor, which is about 19 or 20 inches, I guess. It does the same thing. The right side of the screen is cut off. I can click on the ipod icon again, and see the license agreement. I clicked the box at the bottom and hit save. The thing is, part of that sentence saying that you agree to the terms, is cut off.
All I see is:
"I have read and agree to the iPod Software License Agr"
I don't know what the rest of it says. And there is NO scroll bar at the bottom. I've tried shrinking the window and stretching it to the right, but it won't stretch. I don't know if the ipod won't work bc I can't register it or what. I even uninstalled itunes and re-installed it. Still does the same thing. I'm totally confused. ANY help would be appreciated.

Resize the screen resolution to 1024 or larger (right click on desktop and pick Properties then go to the tab for screen resolution).

PDF Signature Template?

I have a PDF that has multiple signature boxes-- though they're not all for signatures. Date, ID#, Printed name, Signature, etc. I can get them working with my Topaz Signature Pad (Model #T-L463-HSB-R) without any issue. The problem, however, is that this document needs to remain as a template of sorts; multiple people will be filling out the forms daily. When I perform a "Save As" and name the newly-signed PDF something different, there's no issue. However, when I open up the template version (which should, in theory, be blank, because I didn't save it), the previous signature information is still there.
I can go through the document and manually remove all the signatures, but that's kind of a pain, and only adds extra steps to the process. So, my question is this: Is there a way to save my document WITHOUT retaining the signature information? I need it to be a clean slate (so to speak) each time I open it.

Oh, I should probably add that I'm using Adobe Acrobat X, the trial version from Adobe's site.

How about making the file read-only? That way Acrobat/OS won't allow the blank template PDF to be overwritten, but you can Save As.

Add captions to "darkroom" photo galleries

Click on the thumbnail photo grid to bring up the photo grid preference pane.
There hyou an set the number of caption lines you wnat to use. All you need to do after that is click under the thumbnail to open the caption field and type in the caption.

Taking 4:3 to 16:9 without stretching..?

Is there an app (MPEG Streamclip or something) that can add black "pillars" (opposite of letterbox) to a 4:3 clip so it won't stretch in 16:9 ..?

You can "pillarize" your video (did I just coin a new term?) with MPEG Streamclip. Drop your 4:3 video in the app and select what format you'd like to export it to. Let's say, for qualities sake, you choose "Export to QuickTime" and select Apple DVCPRO50. Select the "FRAME SIZE" you want, which will most likely be 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080 if you're striving for 16:9. Interlaced scaling will be pre-selected by default, and you may as well leave it selected. Just for the **** of it select "Better Downscaling." Can't hurt...supposedly improves the quality of conversions, though the conversions take slightly longer.
Okay, on to the pillars. One of the adjustment selections you'll see is "ZOOM," which changes the aspect ratio of the video. Leave the first setting where it is at 100%. It's the next setting called "X/Y" where the pillar/letterbox action is. You'll notice X/Y offers three choices. The first, by default, is "1." That simply leaves the video at the mercy of the frame size you've selected - meaning that it would stretch your 4:3 into a 16:9 video. Not what you want. The next choice is "1.333." That'll letterbox your video, which is great for converting 16:9 to 4:3. It's the last choice offered that'll give you pillars - "0.75." After selecting it click the "Preview" button to see if the adjustment takes you where you want to go. If it doesn't, than I've completely misunderstood your question! Sorry.
Incidentally, you can remove the pillars/letterboxing by changing the Zoom field from 100% to 133.3%, which would enlarge your picture to fit 16:9 without stretching it. Quality may suffer a bit, but it's worth experimenting with. (The Zoom "Center" feature is usually left at zero, unless you want to move the picture to the left or the right a bit).
