Navigating the Captivate forum

There appears to be no link back to the main Captivate forum category page from within an internal forum/post page. The breadcrumbs don't get there. As far as I can tell, one must go all the way back to the general Adobe forum center, then re-enter the main Captivate forum page. Am I missing something?

Here's some more info...
It appears that the same breadcrumb name behaves differently depending on which page you're on.
For example, if I'm starting on this topic page, the breadcrumbs are:
Adobe Forums > Adobe Captivate > Adobe Captivate > Discussions
The first "Adobe Captivate" link (http://forums.adobe.com/community/adobe_captivate) leads to the main Captivate category page. This is as expected.
If I click the "Discussions" link, I am taken to this page: http://forums.adobe.com/community/adobe_captivate/adobe_captivate_general?view=discussions , which has similiarly named breadcrumbs:
Adobe Forums > Adobe Captivate > Adobe Captivate
But the links are different. Now the first "Adobe Captivate" link URL is http://forums.adobe.com/community/adobe_captivate?view=discussions, which is not the Captivate category page, but rather an aggregate of various Community Help posts.
It appears that Adobe is mixing up the regular "Forum" pages with the "Community" pages. Both use the word "community" in their URLs, which makes it even more confusing. (To be honest, I can't quite understand why there are both Forum and Community areas, and it appears Adobe is confused by them too).

Searching the Captivate Forum

I seem to recall that this site had the capability of searching the Captivate Forum only. Is my only alternative to specify Captivate in the Search Forums box? This seems a deprovement to me. Maybe I'm missing something?

When using the Search, type your search term(s) and follow by typing a space and +Captivate.

Why is the Flash forum so slow? Just me?

This isn't necessarily important and I'm not complaining
(yet), but I was wondering if anyone else is finding that the Flash
forum pages load incredibly slow. I find myself staring at a blank
page with a full progress bar for very long periods of time,
sometimes needing to hit the refresh button to jump start the
process with limited success. In contrast, the Photoshop and
Indesign forum pages load quickly. I notice the Captivate forum
pages also load slowly and both it and the Flash forum have
"cfusion" in their address. That, plus their different look, make
me guess that these forums are the original Macromedia forums
ported to the Adobe site. Whatever the reason, they perform much
differently for me and I find using the Flash and Captivate forums
to be tedious and frustrating as a result. Can anyone explain this?
Is anyone else even experiencing this? Can Adobe fix this?
So many questions. Anyway, I figured I'd throw it out there
and see if anyone else jumps in.

How to I get access to the Captivate object in javascript within an HTML file?

I'm still struggling with this and would really appreciate any help/guidance you can .

I've published the captivate project.. I then launch it and then launch the html file that has this code in it
It does everyting up thru and including line 3
But it seems to fail on line 4..
Any ideas /suggestions?

I'm guessing the 2nd didn't work because i tried to get the captivate object AFTER the script wrote something to an HTML file. I'm ultimately trying to get Captivate to generate a report for the user to report out what they did in response to the various quiz questions in the course (in HTML in table). I've posted a query on how to do this here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5120417#5120417
Any chance you could take a look at this posting and let me know your thoughts on how best to do this .. It seems like this would be a fairly common thing to do .. It comes stock in Articulate Storyline (through their 'Report.HTML') but I haven't found a comparable one in Captivate.

Navigating the site near impossible

The site is impossible to navigate. I am looking for discussions, questions posted in different SAP modules and I can't find a way to navigate from one module to another. How do I find the discussion board for Enterprise asset management or PP (Production planning) from the start page? This is truly baffling me

I also find it pretty frustrating when it comes to navigating the site but I realize that SAP has so many products which why they not have been able to organize it in the most intuitive way. But the following screen shots should give you a general direction, though.
When you go to http://scn.sap.com
Click on Products, a drop down menu will expand, here you will find pretty much every forum.
For example, EAM space
Its sub-space EAM below:
ERP space and when you click on it you will see it's sub-spaces like Production Planning etc (below):
If you want to go to ABAP, it's little bit tedious (which is why you may want to book mark it if you visit it frequently)
Business intelligence forums (or Spaces as SAP likes to call 'em)

Dynamic navigation in captivate 4

My problem seems simple enough, so I'm feeling pretty dumb
right about now:
I would like to use Captivate 4 to publish a book in swf.
Every page of the book should have a text input field and submit
button. The user inputs the page (slide) he wants to navigate to
and presses the submit button to jump there. For example, if he
wants to go to pg 400, he would enter 400 and press the submit to
go to slide 399 (since first slide is slide 0)
I need your help to get this to work. Here is what I've
tried.
1) insert text entry, deselect "validate user input" so it
will act as a form
2) assotiate the variable "varViewPage" to the text entry
field
3) remove the submit button
4) insert a new button that when pressed executes the
advanced action:

Check if varViewPage is greater than 0
begin
what do I put
here?]
end
============================================
My thought was to put
rdCmndGotoSlide :=
varViewPage
The problem I run to is that rdCmndGotoSlide is not available
on the left side of the operator. Please help and remember that I'm
as green as they get. Does the solution lie in using Javascript
somehow??

All I can say is to keep backups. Lots of them. If your
intent is to proceed and end up with a 602 slide Captivate project,
don't be too surprised when things fall totally apart and the
project corrupts beyond recovery. Assuming it stays together, don't
be too surprised if it becomes so sluggish it is nearly impossible
to use. I'm simply being honest here.
I might suggest that for something like a book in SWF format
(essentially an eBook) Captivate is not your tool.
You are also deviating from the original subject by stating
you wish to restrict play to a specific location. I might suggest
you begin a new thread for that over in the Advanced forum
category.

Question about using the Captivate KO

My colleague and I are trying to get our course published,
using the Captivate KO. (We have tried inserting the Captivate quiz
using ActiveX, but neither of us have any experience with ActiveX,
so this seemed to be the better option.)
We are trying to publish the Authorware file now to test it,
and are running into problems. We have to publish our courses so
they play over the web (for testing) and through Plateau LMS (for
students to receive credit for the classes). The file location for
our courses is a shared server.
When we publish the file, from the web, we can't see the
Captivate KO quiz at all, and from Plateau we get a Runtime error
when the quiz begins to play. Basically, it is a failure across the
board.
We are thinking the problem lies in the literal/relative path
question when we first upload the quiz into the KO. Does anyone
have any idea what the right method for this would be?
(Everything works when the file is on one of our hard drives,
and that person publishes the file. It plays just fine for that
person, from her hard drive. So, that's how we've narrowed it down
to a path problem, when we move it to the server.)

Hello,
You need to enter a valid Adobe ID, which consists of an e-mail address and your password. You can use the same ID as for the forum. The file to be reviewed will be stored on acrobat.com, reviewers get a link where they can download the file and the (free) Reviewer. It works fine.

Allow the user to control the width of the edit forum post input box

I would like to control the width of of the edit-forum post input box. This could be:
automatically adjust the width of the box so that the box doesn't run off the right edge of the window.
have a user global preference to set the preferred width
at least, allow the user to change the width via the change size icon. The three horizontal bars at the lower left of the input box. You can adjust the vertical dimension, but not the horizontal. TenFourFox 4.0.1. This is probably being blocked for some obscure reason.
Here is an example of an over extended right margin:
Curiously enough, the "software" let's me adjust the width & height of the add reason to edit text, but not adjust the width of the more important edit text box.

No Adjustment at all in HTL Editor

I do seem to remember someone posting about the width and saying they could drag it over the edge of the right hand edge (Into the grey surround)
This may have been a post in the lounge.
It didn't actually try it at the time but have played with it since and have not seen it.
Maybe it is something they "Fixed" in both senses of the word.

Ok.
On my mac, java takes about 5-10 seconds to load in a web page applet from either safari or chrome.
This is 4.9 to 9.9 seconds too long.
PC is a bit faster but not much.
Sun absolutely wrecked java with respect to the web-client.
Please fix this.
Why: Because I want to write web-apps which don't suck. Which means I can't use javascript. Because despite the gajillions of money poured into marketing, it is really very, very slow.
How to fix:
It is very easy.
1. Use PhoneME with JIT. (get startup time to near zero). You might say, "well, we're about to get java to have zero startup time." But this is what you have been saying for ever, and failing at, miserably! Stop trying, give us a JavaME plugin instead.
2. Do NOT distribute monolithic massive class libraries. Instead, give me the opportunity to create class loaders. (I know you think you already do, but please look up the 10 year old bugs regarding the web plugin and class loaders). Make the distributable as SMALL as possible.
3. Are you writing the pluginin "in-between" code in webkit? If you are, fire who ever is writing it. If you aren't, WTF, the connection between the browser and java is slow as a slug. If I was just a bit more of a cynic I would think google is putting in usleep(1000) between calls. Take this code over NOW.
Look, you STILL have a tremendous opportunity in the web-client-space.
You need to show that Java is BETTER than javascript. Which it could be.
But currently it sucks.
It uses too much memory, it has a slow startup time, the connection between javascript and java is slow.
I should be able to write <script type="jar.pack.gz/java" src="blahblah.jar.pack.gz"></script> and multiply my performance by a thousand. Please do it.
I should be able to use a java2javascript library to simplify modifying the dom.
I shouldn't have to write javascript, except for inline code.
BUT INSTEAD I'M SPENDING MY TIME OPTIMIZING GWT.
Javascript sucks, we all know it is rising because of a vacuum of any real performance.
Please fill this void, or someone else will.
