Navigating to links within Help

Were there is great information that seams hard to find about learning to keyboard navigate on mac. it was suggested I more it to here since that discussin closed.

I had some what I considered odd behavior in 'Help' of OS X. I could tab to the search field and get stuck.
Then I realized I could shift-tab back to the back button. and this was ok but I wanted to ue the forward button. after a few more seconds I realized I could arrow key between forward and back buttons exclusively. So all was good until!
I wanted to be able to navigate to various links in a help document. I could hit tab with any range of with no luck, it just . This is the most informitive spot I've found and figuresd it would be the best place to ask.

Let me add to this a little.
When help first opens I do not seem to be able to make the body of the window active. Therefore arrow scrolling and link selection is not possible.
However, if I do a search, I am able to switch to the results section as expected using the tab key, and select using the arrow keys and active using return.
My issue only seems to exist when the body is a real document, not search results.

HTML Link within Portlet

Hi,
1) We are developing a tree using basic HTML/JSP. we need to provide <a href> links which help us to traverese from 1 page to another within the same portlet, also some parameters need to be passed during the same. Also, the js & css references provided in the page are not working.
Please let me know how to incorporate links,css,js,images in our page within portlet.
2) We need to pass parameters between 2 pages created using Portal UI, however, we are not using Omniportlet/Simple Parameter Form in these pages. Kindly let us know how do we achieve the same through portal builder/navigator.

Two instances of Firefox open when I click on a link within my email client. How can I stop this from happening?

I am running on an iMac OS X 10.6.3 using Firefox 3.6.3 as my default browser and I use Postbox 1.1.5 as my email client. Anytime I click on a link within an email message two instances of Firefox open, one with my home page and one with the site the link was meant for. This happens only when Firefox is not already open. If Firefox is running and a link is clicked on it opens normally within the open instance of Firefox. I have contacted Postbox and am currently awaiting a response to see if they have any suggestions. While this is not a serious issue it is a bit annoying. I have Firefox set to open new links in tabs not new instances of windows, so it shouldn't be that. Any help in getting this to stop would be greatly appreciated.

When I click on a link within a Web page, Firefox just spins until I reload the new page.

When I enter a new URL or select a bookmark, Firefox loads the page promptly. When I click on a link within that page to go to another page, the Firefox tab green spinner often just spins and spins. It either takes a very long time to load (2 or more minutes), or never finishes loading. It's usually a greater problem when I "Open a link in a new tab". I can usually make the new page appear by reloading, either clicking the red X and the circular arrow, or Ctrl-F5, etc.

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

In FF 34.0.5 I use to be able to click on a link within an e-mail and the link would open in a new tab; it now opens in the same tab; how can i change it back?

I'm using FF 34.0.5 (I like it). I use to be able to right click on a link, within an e-mail, and the link would open in a new tab. Now when I click on the link it opens in the same tab replacing my e-mail.
Example - a friend sends me an e-mail containing a link to a web site he thinks I'd like. I click on the link and go to the web site and then go back to the e-mail tab and reply to him. Now, when clicking that link, my e-mail disappears and is replaced by the new site.
How can I fix this? When this happened once before I was told to change the 'value' for a specific 'preference name' through the about:config page.
Can anyone help jog my memory?

Is this about clicking a link in an external program?
You can check this pref on the about:config page for external links.
* browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external (-1)
If this pref has the default value -1 then browser.link.open_newwindow is used.

Links - How to reorder links within a folder. Also, how to make folders open in a tree view?

I'm working on a portal in Sharepoint 2007. It appears that I can only have one set of "Links" on a page, so I am grouping my related links into folders. I'm having two issues with this...
#1. I need to change the order of the links within a folder. When I try to Change Order under the Actions menu, I only get the main list of links, not those within the folder. How can I reorder links within a folder?
#2. When I click a Links folder, all links go away, except for the links within that folder. Is there any way to make the Links list work in a Tree view?
Sorry for the newbie questions, but I've not worked much in Sharepoint and I had this project dropped on me. :(

Why is RoboHelp not displaying the required data content of .chm when linked as Help in my App ?

Has anyone encountered the below-said show- stopper. Another BIG TIME help required, will help me in tremendous fashion.
Am using Adobe RoboHelp, Version 10 and IE version being 10.
In my local machine :
1.)I have completed my technical writing courtesy Design editor
2.)Generating chm File : View -> Pods –> Single Source Layouts -> Right Click on Microsoft HTML Help -> Tagged Set as Primary Layout
3.)Generating Primary Layout : File -> Generate -> Primary Layout (Microsoft HTML Help)…
4.)Viewing Primary Layout : File -> View -> Primary Layout
Everything works FANTASTICALLY till here with the required output (as Hide, Back, Refresh, Home, Print, Options, Contents, Index, Search, Glossary and with the data contents)
Show Stopper, At my Application Server :
5.)I copy the entire robohelp project folder from my local machine to my application Server path
6.)My Application has been developed in ASP .NET, Version 4.0.
7.)Help link has been created in this application wherein here the file name of < >.chm has been linked in the code to be read from the Server’s RoboHelp project folder\!SSL!\ Microsoft_HTML_Help\
8.)I login into my above-said application -> click on the Help page -> Displays the required structure /buttons as Hide, Back, Refresh, Home, Print, Options, Contents, Index, Search, Glossary
a.)Clicking on any of the Books or Topics appearing beneath Contents : The System prompts out with error cautionary message called “ Navigation to the webpage was cancelled. What you can try: Retype the address ”

If you looked at the error message and searched the forum, you should find the answer as this is a problem that started in 2005. You should not run CHM files from a server and cannot without editing the users registry. See the page below.

I had FB working again two days ago, and yesterday in mid-serve Safari just "couldn't find the server" once more...
That's a different issue...
First, if you can just use English, open System Preferences > Language & Text then select the Language tab. Drag English to the top of the list then restart your Mac.
Now for the server issue. Try using Open DNS. That shold help the "couldn't find the server" issue...
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
Click +
Enter these numbers exactly as you see them here.
208.67.222.222
Click +
208.67.220.220
Then click OK.
Try accessing Facebook on Safari now.

Correct linking within site problem

Hello everyone, I hope you will be able to help me or point
me in the right direction:
On the webhosting server that I am using (can't change it, my
company chose ...), there is an extremely strange linking structure
(or maybe it just seems strange to me?).
When you log-in into your account to upload your site, the
login takes you to the server/domain folder, where you simply
upload your site. Naturally, all ofther files within the "site" are
linked by /otherfile.html, because they are in the same folder.
However, the server that the hosting company is using requires the
link to be of the format /domainfolder/otherfile.html.
To illustrate it with code:
a) the way Dreamweaver sets up a link within a Dreamweaver
site relative to the index.html page:

b) the way I have to adjust the code for it to work on the
server

This means that I would have to go through every single link

problem, but then wouldn't Dreamweaver:
1. put the index file into that directory
2. create a domainfolder directory in the host directory,
esentially causing a folder structure of the format
server/domainfolder/domainfolder (because when you log in your
files get automatically placed in your domainfolder on the server)?

You'd be ever so much better off without frames. But
<sigh> it's up to you.
Frames are rarely the optimal choice for your layout because
they bring SO
MANY problems into your life, and into the lives of your
visitors.

Creating links within a photo gallery

I created a few albums and I want to know how to create links for specific photos. For example, I would like to link from one of the photos in gallery view to a larger version of that photo. I created another page with the larger photo but I cant create a "click here" link within the description. The inspector allows me to chose create hypertext link after highlighting text but it doesnt work. Also, if I create a link outside of the description the link appears on every page in that gallery. I also noticed that the link I created on the main gallery page appears on every page. Further, I would like the link to open in a new window.

After I published the site the link I created in the photo description works in the album view but not when you're viewing the photo itself.
Any suggestions?

Show navigation pane link in topics

Looking for more info on a new option for WebHelp layouts:
In the layout properties WebHelp Navigation screen (2nd page
of properties) there is an option Show Navigation Page Link in
Topics If I click the Help button on this screen, I see that this
option is described as "Include a link to the navigation pane."
I don't see any such link in my topics when I generate
WebHelp with this option enabled. I am just viewing my output
locally. Are these links only visible when the Help is called using
the API from a server?
Anyone using this option, or know what it is supposed to do?
I am using Breadcrumbs Links and these are working
fine.

First, thanks for all your help over the years with both RH
and Captivate, and for the great hints at your site.
Second, I was *hoping* this option would show the nav pane
link in the following case:
In my project I have set up a 2-pane window (Main_window) and
a 1-pane window (CS_Window).
Main_window is used for calling Help from the toolbar button
and some other places in the app when we want users to open help to
the default topic.
CS_window is called from our app when a user presses F1 in a
dialog (context-sensitive help). This window displays pertinent
topic and toolbar but no nav pane. Just what I want.
Problem is, there is no way for users to access nav pane from
the context-sensitive window. Related topics etc are all opened in
this same window. In order to get more info, users have to close
the help and re-open it via the toolbar or other link.
When a user presses F1, I would like them to see the "naked"
topic, with a way to open the nav pane.
What is the best way to acheive this?
Is there a way to invoke a context-sensitive topic outside
the WebHelp frameset so that this nav pane link will appear, and do
what you describe?
OR
Is there a way to add a button to my CS_Window that would
re-open the topic in the Main_window, which includes the nav pane.
OR
Other ideas? Suggestions greatly appreciated!

PS RoboHelp 7's own Help suffers from same problem: Click the
Help button in a dialog, see the pertinent topic, but there is no
way to find additonal info unless it is listed as a related topic.
You have to close the Help window and invoke Help via the menu to
see the nav pane.

I am using the newest firfox 7.1 and i can not click on any tab or link within an inch below the toolbar.

i am using the newest firefox 7.1 and i can not click on any tab or link within an inch below the toolbar. It is like that area of the screen is a deadzone. I can see links and info but can not click or access anything in that zone. so on facebook i can not log out or access account because it wont click on anything. I have tried clearing my browser and reinstalling firefox. It is not just FB, other sites have the same issue. Any help

OnMouseOver - Won't stay open to click links, need help...

I am using the following code to create a drop down that
appears when the user mouse's over the link. However it doesn't
enable the user to click the links within the area being otherwise
hidden. Can anyone help?

Okay, I figured it out:
The javascript in that file said that when you move your
mouse of the link with a class named tabs_more that show, otherwise
hide. All I had to do was copy and paste that same code but replace
the class with the class for the additional links I wanted to
display. So here is the code I inserted directly below the current
javascript but still within the last });

Show Navigation pane link in topics disappears

When I click on a help link the topic with the navigation
pane link is shortly displayed and is then replaced with the topic
and the TOC in the left pane. I want to display the topic with the
navigation pane link.

Clarification of the WebHelp generation process seems to be
called for.
The .htm file that appears in the "Select Output Folder and
Start Page" field at the top of the first "WebHelp General -
WebHelp" dialog is the file in which RH will place all the frameset
and browser information needed to display the three frames (toolbar
pane, left-hand TOC/Index/Search navigation pane, and right-hand
topic pane). (The "Default Topic" field, in the same dialog, tells
RH which actual content page/topic to display when that start page
is launched.)
The direct launching of any other topic (you double clicking
the filename or R&D calling it in the application) will result
in one topic pane being displayed for that topic, with the "Show"
button provided to switch over to the three-pane frameset.
However, launching a specific topic
indirectly through the start page will display that page
with the three-pane format. The call from the application would
then be StartPage.htm#DestinationPage.htm. If you want to open the
same topic at a prearranged bookmark, the call would be
StartPage.htm#DestinationPage.htm#BookmarkSection.

Email text not displaying normally / links within email not functioning

All of a sudden, emails are not displaying normally; symbols and numbers are interspersed within words of emails, no graphics, no functioning links within emails on my BlackBerry Curve 8530. Verizon Wireless suggested I upgrade to a different phone. That's helpful.

Have you sent HTML emails to GMAIL, HOTMAIL and YAHOO accounts successfully before? Are those services capable of handling HTML formatted email? Not all email clients can handle that type of email.
