Navigating to new page when flash movie stops in DreamWeaver

Hey Folks
I have a page in DreamWeaver that is an introductory movie built in Flash. I would like to automatically navigate to the first page of my website when the movie finishes without using buttons. So when you open my web site the movie plays, then closes and the first of my web site opens.

You feel that a splash page should really be the index page with the options to play the movie or not and buttons to navigate to other pages in the web sight. My web page is actually relatively simply with standard about, philosophy, portfolio, services and contact pages. If I did incorporate the splash page as the index page and wanted it to navigate to a page after the splash played would I use navigateto URL on the last frame in Flash or is there another way. It's actually a page and not a URL that I want linked.

75% of the time this happens, 25% of the time it works as it should.

Do you mean that it is opening links in a new window? If you would rather have a new tab instead, you can set that in Options > Tabs. Some links are set up so that they will open in a new tab or window. I know of no way to make those open in the same tab, short of changing the code on the page.

How do you create a new page when user checks a box?

I guess it would be a check box. I'm looking for a way to have the user select create a new page when the user runs out of space in the text box that is given. So if its possible is there a way to create a new page with a continuing text box when the user has selected the create a new page check box. Thanks.

You can achieve this by just making some changes to the textfield (and the page layout).
First, select the textfield and then in the Layout palette, tick 'expand' height to fit'. When you preview the form, you will see that as you type information into the field, a scroll bar will appear. When you exit the field, it will expand automatically to display the full contents.
Now the problem will be that the textfield will expand over objects that are positioned below it - not good!
So what you need to do is set up your form for a flowed layout. First select all of the objects that do not grow in size and wrap them inside a 'positioned subform'. When you select the subform you can see this setting in the Object > Subform palette. You should name the subforms in the hierarchy. So you will end up with a positioned subform above your textfield and a positioned subform beneath your textfield (if you have objects beneath it).
Then select page1 in the hierarchy and in the Object > Subform palette, change the content to 'flowed'. Hopefully the layout won't change too much (because you will have most of your objects in their positioned subform).
Last step is to select the textfield and in the Object > Field palette tick 'Allow page breaks within content'. This tells Acrobat/Reader to split the object if it overflows onto a new page.
Now save the form as a Dynamic XML Form in the save as dialog and previewed it. Now when the textfield expands it will push objects beneath it down. Also when it gets to the bottom of the page, it will start a new page automatically and continue the content on the new page.

Invisibles are creating a new page when I try to move background image....

I am doing a resume for a friend of mine and its quite simple what Im trying to do;

-Text
And I noticed when I try to put the background image to fit the background that it will create a new page... but I can't seem to find how to get around this problem... can anyone help?

Your image has word wrap on it that is squeezing out either text or a page break underneath.

Flash movies stop after a random amount of time,

The problem that I am having is that flash movie files (Every website) play for a moment or two and then stop with the little “loading” symbol turning endlessly in the center of the screen. Flash movies used to work with no problem but over the span of the last few months it went from not working well to not working at all. In a perhaps related problem sometimes downloads will stop after a certain length of time and also seem to “hang” at a random spot. If I pause the reload and then restart it the program or whatever will usually finish downloading. This doesn’t happen often but does happen. The flash movie thing, though, happens every time – no matter what browser I have tried. (Firefox, IE, IE with no add-ons, and Chrome anyway.)
I have tried solutions that I have found all across the internet, including the Adobe and Microsoft forums, to no avail. I have unloaded flash with the Adobe uninstaller and reloaded flash. I have tried various flash releases – with and without a firewall on. I have made sure that I am using the 32 bit version of IE and even tried running everything in “administrator mode.” I’ve upgraded every driver that I can upgrade. I’ve used a registry checker as a last resort. I even used the Dell partition to return my computer back to the condition that it was in when I bought it and that didn’t change anything either.
Everything I have tried has made zero difference. In the hopes that someone will have another idea for me to try I am putting all the stats for my computer that I can think of below.

No virus that I am aware of
Since you have a Dell, McAfee came pre-installed? Did you remove it prior to Installing MSE? If so, did you use the McAfee Removal Tool or just remove it from Control Panel/Programs & Features?
My computer did come with McAfee which isn't on my computer now. I used a program called "Decrapifier" that removes unwanted preloaded software that comes with PCs.

Do you have any Anti-Virus/Spyware programs other than MSE?
No - I have just used MSE until now. I thought about using AVAST but was't sure what running 2 virus/spyware programs would be like.
Since MSE doesn't have a Firewall, do you use any Firewall other than Windows? If so, which?
I use Windows Firewall. I have tried both adding Youtube as an allowed program and switching the firewall off enirely with no luck.
Do you use a Router? Is it Wireless?
I do have a Lynksys router that is a little older but I've also tried hooking the modem directly to the computer.
Is Qwest wireless?
I use the wired ports and not the wireless for my connection.
Other than IE8, what browsers and versions are Installed now?
I only have IE8 now. I never reinstalled the other browsers after using the Dell partition. I prefer Firefox so having to use IE is frustrating.
I've also used "RegestryBooster" to make sure that my regestry looked okay.

Flash Movie Stops Playing on Laptop

I have a very basic flash movie in an html page. It does fine
except on my client's wireless laptop where it stops about 1/3 of
the way through. It does fine on his pc at the same time it stops
on his laptop. Any suggestions as to what the problem is.

Is the laptop wireless?

Safari reloads the page when I move the pointer?

Currently running 10.6.8 with Safari 5.1.7 on my 1.83 Macbook Pro...
Several weeks ago I noticed an odd bit of behavior from Safari. If I click the back button (or hot-key back one page), and then move the pointer using my trackpad, the displayed page reloads. It doesn't reload the page if I use two fingers to drag the page up or down, it only does it if I touch the pad with one finger.
I have shut off all my extensions, so what could be causing this?

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The Guest login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Layout page with flash movie on top

I want to have the index page for my site open with a flash
movie on top of the rest of the content of the page at a set pixel
distance from the top of the page and centered horizontally in
relation to the browser. I have been able to make this work with an
absolute location using CSS elements in Dreamweaver and the
equivalent of what used to be layers. It all works as long as the
position of the layer is absolute, and your monitor settings are
pretty standard. Otherwise the flash plays on the left:

When I try to make it a relative location, it moves to the
top of the browser. When I try to make it relative to a table, it
displaces the table content rather than playing over it.

The standard solution is to set wmode="transparent" and <param name="wmode" value="transparent" /> in your embed/object html, but that only helps to fix the problem in win/IE. The problem has been there on Adobe's own home page for years. If you're unlucky enough to use a Mac there's no effective solution for this problem.

Skins dissappear when Flash movie placed

I am using the example procedures as shown in the Adobe Book,
Flash CS3 Professional Video Studio Techniques. (Chap 5
specifically). I want to place a Flash movie inside of an HTML
page. I created my Flash Video (Action Script 2.0) both ways (FLV
Player with an authortime assigned FLV & FLV player with an
HTML-assigned FLV) as recommended in the book both to learn and see
how they function. When I load them stand alone in my browser,
(Firefox) they work fine. When I place the code inside my full HTML
page I can get the video to place and play with either but the
Skins fail to show up. I see a blank bar with the background and no
control skin. I did have to do a little work to get the paths
correct for the video but once that was working I expected the
skins to be there but they are gone.
**Update** I actually got it to work when using FLV player
with an HTML-assigned FLV (bad path) but FLV Player with an
authortime assigned FLV still does not work nor make sense since
the Skin should be embedded inside swf file correct?
Answered my own question. In using FLV Player with an
authortime assigned FLV the skin.swf needs to be at the same
directory level as the calling HTML.

Menus not working when flash movie is added

We have some menus on our portal and if we add a flash movie, the submenus under the menus will not work on IE6, however in IE7 and firefox it works fine. When we remove the flash movie all the submenus will work on IE6, IE7 and firefox.
Any help on this?

You can try 3 things :
- use full urls in your menu : http://your_portal:your_porta/portal/page/portal/... instead of just "/portal/page/portal/...."
- embed" your menu code as well as your flash code with a complete html code (<html><head></head><body>...</body></html>
- spceify some <base url=...> in the head section of each. There can be conflicts about this. When you say your menu does not work, you mean the links are wrong when you click on a submenu ? What is the url of the link and what is the url you're getting at ?

Help! The new Pages. I can't copy an entire page or rearrange the pages. In the new formatt also when I insert a new page when using a template it doesn't give me the formatting and guides. Can anyone help.

If I do re-install 09 will I be able to open the files that where converted to the new version?
I don't like this new one. Many of the graphics features have been removed. Not impressed at all. Very frustrated.
The business card templates and others behave strangly. If I insert a page it's blank only. I don't get the guides. I was in the middle of a design project and had to start again from scratch as it threw everything out of alignment and I can't copy an entire page. When I use select all, group then copy when I pasted it on the new page it overlayed all the cards in the top two segments. Frustrating ! I ended up saving my first page under a different name that was the only way to copy the page then I had to work between three documents instead of one.
I went in today to last years Christmas tag file and the same issues I can't copy a page. I can't rearrange the pages.
Simple features like colour choice and transperency for shapes are gone. I want to use my colour choices not someone else.

Yes, I am using 09 with out issues. Just have to remember to use "open with 09" or open pages 09 first then my document.
I create some amazing cards and posters with 09 that when on a PC I would have to use both Word and Publisher to create. Flipping back and forth.

How to populate data in a new page when user place mouse on table cell

i am working on OAF. I have one table with data coming from the backend. In a table some cells repersents wiht "P" or "C", till that Ok. but when user place mouse pointer over the cell, data should be populated in addtion text( babul text) or new page should be opened and it will show the related information about perticular cell.
in my R&D. i created one OACellformateBean and attached messageStyled Text. MessageStyled text have property like " setMouseOver(MulInode, string)". i am really not aware what are the areguments i need to pass to this method ?. what is MultiInode.

How do I post to a new page when the 1st page is full?

How do you create a bul. board where the posts go on a 2nd
page when the first page is filled ...and 3rd page when 2nd is

Won't open new page when I click bookmark, instead changes pages EVEN THO PREFERENCES SET TO OPEN NEW PAGES

Firefox keeps on changing pages, even yanking minimized pages back onto the screen and changing them, even though I have Firefox preferences set to always open new pages to accommodate links on a page or bookmarks.
I don't want Firefox to tamper with any pages, period. If I have a pages minimized, no way should Firefox be yanking that page up back onto the screen because it's "too lazy" to open up a new page to accommodate a bookmark or link clicked on.
It's extremely aggravating to click a link on a page, get a new page then, when I click the page to close it I find no page underneath, indicating that Firefox had changed the original page rather than open up a new page automatically to accommodate the link, etc.
What's the point of me in Firefox preferences setting it up for Firefox to open up new pages automatically when afterwards it doesn't?

Perhaps try the add-on Tab Mix Plus. It has a feature that you can force every link to open in a new tab if you like:

I don't know whether it has any effect on bookmarks. You can open those in a new window by holding Shift or in a new tab by holding Ctrl when clicking.
