Navigation buttons directing to incorrect slide

I have a project where the navigation actions are working as expected until I arrive at a specific slide (Slide 39). When I click the navigation button there, it's action is set to jump to slide 40, but each time it jumps to slide 34. I have deleted and replaced it still the same. I have changed it from a button to a click box and back. Still the same. There are not Slide actions for Enter or Exit. I am a bit confused.

It was the quiz settings and another issue in combination.  My presentation has many branches; so many that a Christmas tree would look like a dead stick in comparison, and a couple of the buttons on slides had been selected as needing to be included in the quiz. Since the presentation was branching around some of those slides it appears that the quiz setting, which I had not even considered, became an issue with the navigation. Now not did the originally reported problem clear up, another navigation issue was resolved as well.  Thank you for your reply!!

  • Navigation Buttons, and Branching

    I have a project with about 100 slides. I originally didn't expect to have to do any "Branching," so I thought I'd just use a standard skin for navigation. Turns out that I am now requuired to branch to some optional information, and return when done. I had a smaller project where I just went  in and added buttons to go back and forth, and jump around. I dread the thought of having to do that again with all 100 slides.
    Is there a way to add a button to all slides at once, or disable the back and forward buttons on the skin, for just one or two slides?
    By the way, I've read on this forum that you can have the user go back to where he left off, when he jumped to the branch and returned. For the life of me, I can't find info on how to accomplish this.

    Hi there,
    Thanks for reaching Adobe Community. You can manage branching between slides through the branching panel. It can be accessed through Window>Branching View. You can refer to the below mentioned links for further help:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2011/08/captivate-training-let%E2%80%99s-explore-the-bran ching-view-in-adobe-captivate-5-5.html

    Coming to your other questions, you cannot use a button to all the slides at once but you can instead use Master Slides for such purpose. You can insert a Smart Shape on your Master Slide and use it as a button from the Properties pane on the right hand side. You can disable the back and forward buttons on the playbar through skin editor but unfortunately they will be disabled for the entire project.
    Hope the above information helps!
    Thanks!

  • Can I make a button not make a slide continue?

    Hi.
    I looked for this question, but could not find an answer, so I'm hoping I'm re-posting something already answered.  If so, I will accept my verbal chasisement.
    Anyway...
    I am attemping to create a "click and reveal' type interaction in Captivate 4 using buttons and hiding/unhiding objects. Essentially, when the user clicks button A, it will reveal image A and Caption A .  When they click button B, through the magic of multiple actions, image A and Caption A will disappear and image B and Caption B will appear....etc.  These buttons are at about 5 or so seconds into the timeline.
    Around 28 seconds into the slide timeline, I have a "Back" and "Next" button that I use for user navigation instead of using the navigation buttons on the skin.  This will pause the slide until the user clicks one of them to be navigated to the next slide or previous slide.
    The problem I am running into is that if the user "lingers" on the slide and clicks back and forth between buttons A, B, C, etc. to re-look at all the objects, clicking on any of those buttons will continue the slide which is paused by the "Back and Next" buttons at the end of the timeline.  Try as I might, I just can't make the slide pause and wait until the user actually clicks the "Next" or "Back" buttons when I click buttons A, B, and C over and over to re-look at the images and captions.
    So is there any way to tell a button NOT to continue the slide?  I want my buttons A, B, and C to do the multiple actions i have assigned them (show and hide objects) but do NOT want them to make the slide continue at the pause implemented by my navigation buttons.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks.
    Rob

    Hi there
    Actually I do believe there is a way to make the behavior what you want. But I'll address your issue for making things known to Adobe first. Adobe has something called the "Wish Form/Bug Reporting Form" that they monitor. So you use that. (Link to that is in my sig line)
    As for the button issue, you can accomplish it using Advanced Actions. What you need to do is to manipulate the Playhead to keep it paused. One way is by configuring the variable rdcmndGotoFrame with the value rdinfoCurrentFrame. Sometimes this works to just keep the playhead paused. Other times I've tried to do it with some success by repositioning the playhead farther upstream and allowing it to "float" back to the pause point of the object. And to do this you use the variable rdcmndGotoFrameAndResume and assigning it the frame number earlier in time. Of course, to do this you must first calculate the frame number to position at. I normally did this by inserting a Text Caption configured to present the rdinfoCurrentFrame variable and manipulating the pause points using a Click Box object to arrive at the desired value.

  • Slideshow navigation buttons not working.

    Having had the slideshow navigation buttons that exist below my photos (back, pause, forward) working fine for some reason they are now coming up as question marks in Safari and error boxes in Firefox and Explorer. I have not made any changes to my site but have republished since discovering the problem but it still remains.
    I have looked for the cause in iWeb but have no idea what will remedy this.
    Any help much appreciated.

    Caused by the recent update from .Mac to MobileMe and out of our hands for fixes.
    The trouble is caused by some of the links create by iWeb that point to files found on Apple servers (not your iDisk). They are usually created inside the javascript files (.js) and use incorrect URL's that previously worked when linked at .Mac but now fail at MobileMe.
    Since it is a javascript file a Web browser status bar (bottom of the window) shows a javascript:void URL but a click on the link in our iWeb (and Homepage) pages is not finding the correct Apple server files (they are not part of your iDisk and are hosted on Apple servers).
    Odd thing is that some of these URL's do work and others fail. Some do not show the mouse over change (to the pointed finger icon) but clicking in the space where they should appear triggers the javascript.
    Someone at Apple will be working late into the night to "fix" what they broke.

  • Add navigation buttons on top of every scene

    Hello,
    I've got a Flash movie with quite a few scenes and I'd like to add navigation buttons (prev\next) with AS3 to move from scene to scene.
    Sounds easy but...
    If I write this on first frame of first scene :
    this.addChild(play_btn);
    buttons will appear OK on this first scene but will disappear under objects of the second scene
    If I change to
    stage.addChild(play_btn);
    button will appear OK over every scene but, as my SWF is loaded in an e-learning software that produces SWF, the buttons will remain on the "stage" of every slide of the final module ! I can't remove them when the user changes slide because I can't run AS3 when changing slide...
    Is there way of adding the buttons "inside" my movie but on top of everything that might appear afterwards ? No more depth or Z order in AS3 ?
    Thanks.
    Please don't tell me using scenes is bad because I've been using them for years and I've always read that all scenes become a long timeline at runtime. They're just very handy to me.

      I believe in AS1/2 you can set a depth at any value.
    Yes ! And that would have been handy here... not clean, but handy !
    Here's what I did so far :
    I added the buttons to the root and found a function that did the trick, called with a timer :
    var play_btn:mcBtnPlay = new mcBtnPlay();
    Object(root).addChild(play_btn);
    function moveToTop(child:DisplayObject):void {
      (child.parent != null) ? child.parent.setChildIndex(child, child.parent.numChildren-1) : null;
    function timerListener(e:TimerEvent):void {
      moveToTop(play_btn);
    The only problem is that the buttons will flash on screen at scene change because the of the timer interval, but you can think it's on purpose (visual clue) .
    Don't know if there's a more clever way to detect scene change apart from some code on each first frame of scenes ?

  • How to redirect navigation button to typepad?

    My website is hosted on .Mac and created with iWeb '08. I have godaddy redirecting my personal domain to the .Mac hosts, just fine. Now I would like to have it when folks click on my blog navigation button to be redirected to a new blog I am starting on TypePad. Can this be done? If so, please share the step-by-step directions or the place I can go to learn how to do this.
    Thanks for any and all help.

    As a temporary workaround, I do something like this:
    Use a blank page template for a temporary page.
    Place a button on there pointing to the desired page.
    Example:
    http://www.affordabledigitalphotography.com/Your_Photos.html
    You could also use a meta redirect on the "dummy" page to send people directly there after 0 seconds or something like that.

  • Navigation buttons not showing up on Mail screen. Any suggestions?

    This issue started two days ago before which it was working normally.
    Basically, now when I click on the mail icon on the main menu, it opens up the mail screen but the navigation buttons on the top (allowing me to go to the parent folder, go to previous/next message etc.) do not show up any more.
    The top of the screen now is the To: field. I have tried to scroll up past it but its just a dark grey area.
    Any suggestions would be very helpful.
    Thanks

  • Quiz Retake Button - Only Show Question Slides

    I currently have courses with quiz question slides at different places throughout.
    Example:
    Slide 1
    Slide 2
    Quiz Question 1
    Slide 4
    Slide 5
    Slide 6
    Slide 7
    Quiz Question 2
    Slide 8
    Slide 9
    Quiz Question 3
    etc...
    I have the Retake Quiz button on the results slide if a user fails the quiz. Is there any way to have the Retake Quiz button show ONLY the Quiz Questions slides, not the content slides in between? Currently, when the user clicks the Retake Quiz button, it directs them to the first quiz slide (Quiz Question 1), but after answering, the course continues to the content slides (Slide 4, Slide 5, etc...) before it reaches the next quiz question. Since the quiz slides are not directly consecutive, can the Review Quiz button be programmed to only show quiz question slides?

    Hi there,
    You can do this using advanced actions and user variables.
    you can create your own variable and apply a default value of 0.
    On exiting the normal slide assign that variable with the value of 1 or if you have a button on that slide then you can apply action on that button.
    and on enter of the slide you can apply a conditional action.
    to check the value of that variable if it is equal to 1 then go to next slide, else continue.

  • Navigation Buttons Work on and Off?

    Anyone with any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am out of ideas.  I am new to Flash CS4 so I may be doing something stupid.  I created my assests on Photoshop CS4 and imported them into flash as flash layers.  I followed a training video by Paul Trani about creating a first website.  I have several pages in my site, home, about, contact, photos etc.  I created navigation buttons for the homepage and they work great.  However on my other pages I created different buttons as they are in a different place and have some additional buttons that the homepage does not have (except the contact page has common buttons to the homepage).  I put the homepage and second page (contact) actions on frame 1.  I then created a new keyframe at frame 20 where the rest of the pages uses common buttons.  I then changed the language in the action script so as not to conflict with the frame 1 action script.  I had trouble making the second group of buttons work so I created a new actions layer (actions2) and they work, except...
    Well my homepage buttons work, all of them.  I can even go to my contact page (which share the same buttons with the homepage) and then go back to the home page.  I can also go from the homepage to the other pages and those buttons work...UNTIL I go back to the home page or to the contacts page (the pages that share buttons) then those buttons NO LONGER WORK???  It seems like once I committ myself to one group of pages (I consider myself having two groups of pages based on the sharing of buttons by each group) it disables the other group.
    Any ideas or direction I may look at?
    Thanks, Mark

    Hello and thank you for the response.  If I may bother you for a bit more detail...for the later, would I put all the code in actions/frame 1?  Then are the layers where the buttons artwork and the buttons themselves expanded out to the full length, then I make portions invisible?  Also am having trouble where to find the invisibilty command...I remember seeing it somewhere but can't find it.
    Again, any addional help would be great.  I feel like I am almost there.

  • Slide Navigation not working on revisiting slide

    Hi,
    I've got a presentation in 5.5 where one of the slides (Slide 5) has audio, some user entry textboxes, some clickboxes with advanced actions and couple of navigation buttons that appear as soon as the slide appears, a "Back" button which jumps to the previous slide, and "Next" which goes to the next slide, which is a multiple choice question slide (Slide 6) with Clear/Back/Skip/Next.
    If I'm at the question slide and go back to Slide 5 I can click on the Next button, but it will not advance as the first time it was clicked, it waits for about 5 or 6 seconds and just goes to a blank gray stage and we're stuck there. The action on the Next button on Slide 5 is Jump to the Next Slide, and the overall slide Enter action is Continue and Exit is No Action, which is the same for the rest of the non-question slides in the presentation. I've tried changing the actions on the textboxes to Continue and to No Action in case this was influencing, but the behavior remains the same. The checkboxes simply assign values to user variables. Overall there are no transitions on the objects and they appear for the remainder of the slide. The Quiz setting is Answer All, and we allow backward movement. is there a system variable that can be reset to allow the user to re-exit the slide?
    Thanks in advance

    You might be running into an issue with the Quiz Scope.  Captivate doesn't like you jumping in and out of the quiz scope.
    Try placing a scored button on the very first slide of the project, and make sure this button is set as added to the quiz.  This will extend the quiz scope to be from the very first slide and might free things up a bit because you'll always be inside the scope.

  • Captivate 8 - click through buttons/smartshapes is incorrect

    I have smart shapes that act as buttons on my slide, as well as an image button that is positioned in front (on top in the stacking order) of the smart shape (so it overlaps).
    When I test and click the image button, it does not activate the image button action, but activates the smart shape action. As long as the smart shape is behind the image button, any click on the image button is being interpreted as a click on the smart shape instead. The screen design for the project that I am working on means I have no choice but to have elements like this overlap from time to time.
    I have been getting this behavior consistently in Captivate for a while. Is this an active issue that the Captivate dev team is already looking into? Am I doing something wrong?

    Having two interactive objects in the same location at the same time is a
    bad idea. Do you really need that?

  • Menu Navigational Buttons

    I have created a DVD in Premier Essentials 12.  The navigational forward and back menu buttons work in the completed movie's "Disc Preview" mode on the computer, but these navigational buttons showed up but did not work on the burned DVD.  Why not and how can I fix?

    I have two main menus with a Play All, Scene, and two other "personalized"  (January and February on the first main menu and March and April on the second main menu) buttons.  Because I needed a total of four personalized "month" buttons, the main menu automatically carried over to a second main menu page.  I have always set up my family videos so that you can play all, navigate to a particular individual movie (scene), or view by the month (multiple "scenes" in each month).  This is how I have done all my previous DVDs when I used the Roxio program.  My family like this setup.  Actually Roxio allowed me to set up my main menus with the months, and when you clicked on the month, you were navigated to a "submenu" that included all the individual movies for that particular month.  Premiere Elements menus do not include this navigation format.  So, I have a Main Menu 1 page 1, Main Menu page 2, and (you are correct) separate scene menus Scene Menu page 1, Scene Menu page 2, and Scene Menu page 3 (which are not organized by month but just chronologically...five to a menu).  The problem is that the forward and back buttons to get both back and forth from Main Menu pages 1 and 2 and all the Scene Menus are not being recognized by either of the two DVD players I tried but are working fine when I put the DVD in the computer and work in "Preview Disc."  None of the forward/back buttons work on any of the menus.  After hours of playing around, I did find that the menus do go forward and back in the DVD player when I use the down, left, and right arrows on the remote to navigate totally off the bottom of the television screen where there is just black.
    Hope this helps.  I will work on trying to burn a DVD with just the preset menus and see if the forward/back buttons work then.  My question is in order to do this, do I have to make an actual movie using my clips in order to get the menus to work?  I don't want mess around with anything on my current "family DVD" (except get the forward/back buttons to work!).

    I do not recall if I asked "When you are not seeing the previous and next buttons, how many menu pages do you have?"
    If you have 12 scene markers and the Memories/Family Memories theme (5 scene buttons per scene page), do you have
    Main Menu
    Scene Menu page 1
    Scene Menu page 2
    Scene Menu page 3
    Are previous and forward buttons not seen any where?

  • Restrict Player (skin) Navigation Until Entire Audio on Slide Plays

    Hello all,
    In 5.5 I'm using a skin with navigation controls, but I want to restrict the learner from advancing until the entire audio file on the slide plays (the audio is placed on the slide, not on an object). I've searched 10 different ways, and I can't seem to find the answer.
    Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.
    - Scott

    I suppose you have one of the playbars in the skin, in that case you cannot prevent the user from clicking on the Next button at any time.
    You could hide the playbar for that slide by assigning the value 0 to the system variable cpCmndShowPlaybar, and insert a 'Next' button that will appear after the end of the audio clip. If you are talking about all slides, I would recommend to skip the playbar totally and provide your own navigation buttons.

  • How do I add a hover state to a smart shape button on the master slide? CP7

    I want to use a button with a hover state on my master slide in CP7. I created a smart shape and checked the box 'use as button.' I then created 3 image files with the "x_up, x_down, x_over' extensions. When I select my smart shape and choose a custom pattern from the fill menu and select my 'x_up' image file, the smart shape does not recognize the hover state. Is there another way to achieve this?
    Thanks!

    Thanks I think I get it now after reading your post. Shape buttons can only shrink when they are pressed and nothing else. I was thinking a work round for me would be to use a regular button with the up, over, down state, put this regular button on the first slide and set the timing for 'display for rest of project.' However I don't see this option in the timing panel:
    Is this option somewhere else?
    Thx!

  • Print, Export and Page Navigation Buttons in the Report

    When I view a report through CR4E, the generated report has 3 buttons namely Print, Export and Page Navigation buttons. But when I click on either of the buttons I get a &#39;null pointer exception&#39;. This is a critical error as I am unable to navigate past the first page. Do I have to add code to these buttons? If not, why am I getting an error? Kindly solve my problem as soon as possible.

    <p>Looking at your code it appears that you are storing the ReportSource in session prior to passing in the ResultSet. This will create a problem when a postback is made on  the viewer page (which all of the viewer actions do). If you look at the sample code which is generated when you use the JSP Page Wizard you will notice that the ResultSet is passed to the ReportClientDocument object prior to it being stored in session. Then, when the page is called again this object is retrieved and the ReportSource is used by the viewer. You can quickly run the test using one of our sample reports to see what I am talking about.
