Navigation Fonts Corrupted

I have set up a website using the "freestyle" template. my navigation words come out as gibberish. They consist entirely of symbols--and the symbols seen to be additional characters from MSGothic.
I have turned off that font and this gibberish continues to be reprinted when I retype different names for the links.
What is the matter with my fonts? Where is this font coming from? How can I stop this?
I understand that all I need to do is go in and redo the navigation bars by hand (and I can do this) but the point of iWeb is to allow rapid regeneration of these menus--that's the reason to use iWeb.
My other computer generates a really boring--but clear--navigation bar for this template. other templates on my computer do not give me gibberish on the navigation bar.
I turned off lots of fonts, including MSGothic, which is the only font that has the distinctive arrows in the gibberish. The gibberish still appears.
Any ideas?

Thanks Tom.
I am emailing you from a different email address than my apple address because my old knox.net account closed down last summer and I haven't figured out how to change my apple ID yet. (Knox.net--one of the last freenets).
Here is a screenshot of my iweb problem fonts. The Apple font utility identifies these characters as coming from MS Gothic.
I think that I probably have a font numbering problem.
Today plain text in the New York times was gibberish (of course, maybe that's not a font problem.)
But maybe that's because I turned off some fonts.
Anyway, can Suitcase or some other utility help this?

  • Font corruption

    Hello everyone,
since a long time, I've been experiencing slight font corruption in Gecko powered applications (Firefox/Thunderbird), that were going away when highlighting the culprit characters. Lately I've been getting it, except that it's worse, doesn't go away (I suspect the new GTK or kernel) and happened in Geany too.
Xorg logs don't have any errors and dmesg only show
    radeon 0000:01:00.0: Packet0 not allowed!
repeatidly. The issue doesn't seems to be a hardware problem since it only happens with specific applications. I tried switching from Glamor to EXA, without success and memtest86 says that my RAM is okay.
Using radeonSI with an AMD radeon R9 280X (7970).
    A picture of the problem.

I would try disabling "damage" in xorg, e.g. /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-damage.conf, containing:
    Section "Extensions"
    Option "DAMAGE" "False"

  • Font corruption in GTK apps only

For a day or so now I have been seeing quite bad font corruption in GTK apps -- gtk-demo and Chromium both have this problem. QT apps are not affected. Forcing a font cache rebuild with `sudo fc-cache -rf` did not help the situation, and neither did reinstalling the affected fonts.
I did not upgrade or install any packages between the font rendering being fine, and it being corrupted (see the screenshot).

I've seen corruption like this with a lot of cairo apps because the text to be rendered is sent to a buggy EXA driver. Does text look better if you turn off EXA acceleration?

  • Issue with Fonts Corrupting in ID CS5

We've been using the Helvetica LT Std type family forever in our marketing materials. While it's not the greatest font family anymore, we still want to stay consistant. Recently upgraded our machines, and software (CS3 to CS5) and are now having issues with those fonts corrupting. Basically, they randomly throw "superscripts" and glyph type symbols throughout the document (see below). If I switch it out to a different font, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Has anyone ever come across this?
    Regards,
    David

    Mac OS X 10.6.4
I've uploaded all of my typefaces in Font Book. When I remove the Helvetica LT Std family from Font Book and then try opening the document again, it tells me that the fonts are missing. Meaning, it's not pulling a different font.
The weird thing is when I select the type change it to "Impact" the characters display correctly. When I change it to "Myriad" they are still corrupt. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reasonings to the why.
And thanks for the link, I've started reading through the key sections of that. WIth the fonts coming up missing when they are removed from Font Book, it doesn't appear to be that. So confused.

  • Help!! Menu Font corrupted after after upgrading P...

    Hi all,
    Pls help.
I've just upgraded the PR1.2 over the air.
It was done very smooth during and right after the upgrade.
When I switched off and on again the phone, all the menu font corrupted.
    e.g.
    Inside menu.
    "All" -> now "ai_category_all"
    "desk" -> now "ai_category_desk"
    etc.
    I add screen capture.
When I go to the "system setting", and check the "language and region", I found there is no language.
Since i installed some Chinese app right before upgrade, I am guessing whether this app corrupts some system file.
Could any of you expert help..?

    Hi all guru,
I feel very frustrated with the language support problem after PR1.2 upgrade as cpitchford mentioned.
How could I recover this ?
Will the Re-flash help ? If so, how to do so?

  • Font corrupt problem

I am running a java servlet that do graphics rendering and generate jpg file and send to the client browser. But I got the following
Assertion failed: offset < fFileSize, file ../../../src/share/native/sun/awt/font/fontmanager/fontobjects/fontObject.cpp, line 256
It looks like the fonts corrupted. But where is the fonts? Could I replace it? Or is there any way to fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    Iris

Can you run GraphicsEnvironment.getAllFonts() successfully? If you can, then try to render each font in turn until you crash, and you might be able to pin down which font it is.

  • Font corruption in virtual consoles

Not sure where to put this, so it goes here.
I am currently a victim of font/screen corruption in the virtual consoles (probably not X, not sure, haven't installed a WM/DE yet). I am using a 1680x1050 resolution (8bit color) with the vesafb driver for the framebuffer (have installed proprietary nvidia drivers for X). This is my native resolution, and my attempt to get a decent console environment without KMS, which the proprietary nvidia drivers do not allow (or so I have read). This works fine, the problem arises when I choose a large font to compensate for the larger resolution.
Most fonts above 16px seem to cause corruption. I really like the Terminus font (ter-120b in particular), but it causes corruption. If I go down to ter-116b, it works fine. For some reason, ter-132b works fine too, guess it's got something to do with 16px+16px=32px. This is too large, though, so I can't use it. I have also tried other fonts than Terminus (One called sun12x22 (or sth like that), for example) with the same results. All fonts greater than 16px seem to cause corruption (unless they are as large as 32px). Note that the ter-XXXn fonts (e.g. ter-120n) also cause corruption.
When I say "corruption" I mean pixels not being redrawn properly, "left-over" pixels. It is easily reproducible by typing something in the terminal, moving the cursor a few characters back (1 or more), and pressing the "delete" button to delete the character to the right of the cursor. The character is not properly deleted on screen, some of the pixels are left. Note that this happens in editors like nano/vim as well.
I have tried different resolutions and framebuffer settings (ywrap, redraw, mtrr and what not), but have narrowed it down to a font problem as corruption occurs even with default settings/resolution.
Any suggestions? Know what causes this? Workarounds/fixes?
In worst case I'll just down the resolution until a 16px font is okay, but it would be a shame not to get the native resolution.
EDIT: Oh, and my GPU is a nvidia GTX260 (the 216 core version)

  • Font corruption and Adobe GoLive CS2 V 8.0

After 10.6.7 upgrade via Combo (Safe mode; DW; RP etc) , Camino & Chrome crashed. (Seamonkey, iCab, Omniweb, Safari & Opera did not) This was due to a corrupted Font, fixed via FontBook.
Being somewhat non-Font orientated my simple websites displayed Apple Chancery on my new iPad but displayed 'cursive' on wife's 10.6.6 which my iMac (10.6.6) also used to display.(??)
On 10.6.7 all my sites displayed Apple Chancery on 10.6.7 ... fixed by changing Fonts.
Adobe GoLive CS2 8.0.1 pretended to upload 'changed' files but never did! I had to 'delete-drag-drop' or use Transmit to upload changed files?
I duplicated some of these files only to find CS2 never uploaded the changed files!!
Does 10.6.7 break Adobe GoLIve 8.0.1??
In 10.6.6 I had some embedded MP3 files and 10.6.6 played these no problem. 10.6.7 will not play them from the website but plays them locally?
I tried all sorts of methods including javascript but 10.6.7 would not play them even after booting Paralells and IE8/9?
As I use a free ISP (ByetHost) to check my sites I transferred one to my homesite with the same result?
I am of the opinion that 10.6.7 breaks GoLive CS2 (Please! Not Dreamweaver!!)
I have a 10.6.6 SuperDooper 10.6.6 to go back to but worry what 'Lion' will bring??
Anyone else with similar problems afte upgrade to 10.6.7??

Thanks, R C-R, I am aware of the Font dependency on platforms but wondered why it suddenly reverted to the 'correct' font after installing 10.6.7. My previous OS upgrades didn't do this so I assumed 10.6.7 showed the 'true state' whereas previous upgrades didn't.
I checked my F/W backup of 10.6.6 and found 2 Fonts that were inadvisable to use so this is where Camino/Chrome crashed due to these Fonts. I consider it an 'Installation' problem as it never happened before.
The GoLive problem was of my doing and is now sorted.
However, part of this GolIve problem was found to be related to embedding MP3 in web pages and I assumed it was the install of 10.6.7 that activated this. I now believe it was either iTunes 10 or Safari 5 (10.6.7 installs Safari 5??) or both.

  • Fonts corrupted when import the Outlook Vcard

I have tried to exported the Outlook contacts to VCard format (.vcf) before importing into Mac Address Book, but the characters were all corrupted (messy)!
do i need to find a tool/converter to convert the character after importing the contacts? pls help. thx.

Sir, sorry that I would like to remind you that the Fonts (should be all the Chinese ones) are corrupted, but the digits and English fonts are correct.
Wrong encoding normally only corrupts Chinese and other languages, not English.
so could you pls help to tell me how to solve it? Thx!
Make sure your TextEdit app is set to Plain Text everywhere in its Preferences.
Open your .vcf file with TextEdit via File > Open.
If the Chinese displays correctly, then do Save As and change the encoding to UTF-16. Set the name of the file as 16test.vcf.
Try to import into Address Book.

  • Font corruption over network

Just wondering if anyone else out there has experienced this issue. Here goes -
We recieve design layouts on cd from clients w/ fonts included. We extract all the content from the cds, place it locally on our macs, and place the same content on our network drive. I've noticed that sometimes after downloading a project from the network, the fonts seem to be corrupted (showing zero k file size & unix executable icon in the finder). I've tried zipping the fonts using the built-in os x functionality, but this seems to only work on occasion (I download & un-zip & the same issue occurs). My guess is that it has something to do w/ the file transfer? Is there a difference between zip & sit files relating to fonts? Is there a way to repair these seemingly corrupted fonts?
    Thanks:)

  • Zapf Dingbats font corrupt on new laptop

I am moving to a new laptop. My old laptop had Windows XP SP 2, FrameMaker 8.0p277, and Acrobat Distiller 8. I had 2 Zapf Dingbats fonts that worked fine on my old laptop (ZapfDinbats and ZapfDingbatsStd [OpenType]). However, on my new laptop, when I try to install the ZapfDingbats .pfm version of Zapf Dingbats, I get a corrupt font error. The new laptop has the following applications: Windows XP SP 3, FrameMaker 8.0p277, and Distiller 8.0. Other people on my team have downloaded and installed this file without any problems. I've done some reading on the Forum about this issue. But I haven't found a solution to my problem yet. Would someone please help me? Someone mentioned a bios setting without any particulars. I'm wondering whether I need to do something like that here.

Is it possible that your new laptop has a Nvidia graphics card? A Google search for «"XP SP3" postscript fonts» reveals solutions like this:
Open the registry editor (START, RUN and type regedit and click OK)
Navigate to the following key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro  l\SessionManager\MemoryManagement
Add a new REG_DWORD Value - Change the name of the value to SessionImageSize with a value (decimal) of 20  and then reboot the machine.
Found in a German Windows related forum, where the thread describes exactly your problems (solution comes from DELL). Maybe it's worth a try.
Edit: here's an English blog which gives the same solution (scroll down to the end of the page):

  • FontBook font corruptions [?] - but not in all apps.

I'm scratching my head on this one!
I'm using a new G5 Quad with all the usual design applications... and Office 2004. The fonts work fine in InDesign/Illustrator/Acrobat/Photoshop/FCP, etc... except Office 2004. I use Font Book exclusively now - Suitcase X1 being the mess it is.
Everytime I launch either Word/Powerpoint/Excel I get an error message during the splash screen start up, namely: "... this font is corrupt and should be replaced...". I'm a designer and art editor and have a lot of fonts... simply hitting 'OK' at the message a countless number of times is not a viable option. So....
.... I tried to repair it by doing the following:
Firstly, I logged on as a 'new user' and at first attempt, Word opened fine.
This is what I did next:
    1. Assuming a font problem - while in 'new user', I copied all the fonts in both library folders onto an external FireWire HD.
    2. I then logged back into my (administrator) account to copy them to my library/fonts folders.
    3. Verified ALL fonts using FontBook. Everyone passed as OK.
    4. Deleted the font cache in Office preferences.
    5. Ran permissions and logged back into the 'new user' account.
    6. Did nothing but start up Word. This time I got the exact same error
message as on my administrator account ["... this font is corrupt..."].
Now, I'm stumped. I also tried Powerpoint and Excel... both came up with the same error message.
Does anyone have a solution for this frustrating problem, or has experienced similar and know of a work around? This problem is driving me nuts...!

  • All PostScript fonts corrupt after InDesign Packaging

One of my design partners who is using ID CS4 on Snow Leopard packages files she works on for me and gives them to me. EVERY time, all PostScript fonts are packages as zero bytes. OpenType or TrueType fonts will come through fine.
This has been on ongoing problem and a huge headache. The issue is not religated to sending files to me. Printers and other collaborator receive these packaged fonts in the same corrupt condition.
I have seen other mention this here before, but never have I seen anyone resolve this issue. I may have even posted about it last year. Is there anyone who has any insight about this problem?
I have attached an image showing the font directory of the most recent package for reference. You can see the PS fonts aren't even recognized as fonts, while the OT are.

If you're connected to a server trying to package a InDesign file. You might make sure you're connect via: smb,,,, and not afp, I've seen that do some funky things to fonts.
That is a really good idea.
Also, you could use TransType Pro to try and convert or format the font differently.
That idea is as bad as your last one was good.
I wonder how H&FJ feel about Gotham being "converted" to another format. Hey, why don't you contact them and ask 'em if your EULA permits conversion to other font formats?
So, one more tidbit. If the fonts are zipped straight, using OSX's zip feature and then emailed. they are also fried. So, that one fact, seems to pioint to the OS's handling of PostScript fonts either as an OS or the zip feature or some specific setting on my colleague's computer.
You must mean "if the fonts are zipped ... straight AFTER packaging ... they are also fried." You mean that, right?
Try having your colleague just package, and then look in the Fonts folder BEFORE you do anything - before zipping, moving to flash drive, et cetera. If they are zero K at that point, then go look at the fonts out in the OS, from wherever they're being collected. If your colleague has only one copy of the Gotham set on the HD and, post package, the packaged fonts are zero K, then you've pretty much proved that InDesign is frying the fonts. At that point, you're looking at solutions like resetting preferences, reinstalling, stuff like that.
I still think that it's more likely that something else is going on. E.g. one set of fully functional T1s in Applications/InDesign/Fonts, another set of fried 0K fonts in /Library/Fonts, InDesign is rendering the doc using the real fonts in /InDesign/Fonts but grabbing the 0K fried fonts out of /Library/Fonts for packaging.
    Yeah it's farfetched, I know.

  • Fonts Corruption Announced In OSX ?????

I just switched to Tiger, and my update to Quark 7 opens (mostly) fine with fonts from OS9. But opening Word, it tells me (one at a LOOOONG time) that a good 50 fonts are corrupt and should be deleted. But Quark uses them ok. Tiger is making me hit my head against the wall with its quirks.
What's the deal with the fonts? Are they bad as Word says (God forbid...they're extensive in a layout), or are they good as Quark says?
I'm going now to get soused on Merlot while I wait for a good Samaritan to tell me *** is going on. I've about had it with $%#&'ing upgrades.
