Navigation in eBooks/magazines

I'd like to utilize what I've seen from magazines on my iPad when putting together a publication.  Portrait mode only, scrolling horizontally for chapters, verticially for pages.  Is that even possible with iBooks Author?
If not, is there another tool I could use to duplicate that reader experience?  I'm looking to create a 400 page annual book, that is broken into approximately 16-20 different 'chapters' or sections.  It doesn't appear I can do that with iBooks Author, and while I've done some searching, I'm not really sure how easily I can accomplish that using Pages or Adobe InDesign.
Thank you for your time.

What navigation? What map? Do you have a wifi+cellular iPad with GPS? Is the GPS turned on? If you have GPS does the iPad have a clear view of the GPS satellites?
A little information will help us help you.

  • Navigation bar online magazine Indesign CS5

    Hi,
I need for my online magazine (exported as (interactive) swf or pdf) buttons like zoom in and zoom out. I know how to put in buttons for previous and next pages. But with what (Adobe) program can you add the zoom in and out function for an online magazine? For example like what online services like Issuu.com do.
I have read the threads here but I don't know an answer yet to my obstacle. Hopefully somebody can enlighten me
This thread comes close to my question: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/323955?tstart=0 but this one is about CS4. I am working in Indesign CS5.
I have read some solutions about actionscript, but I have no experience in actionscript. I have the Adobe Standard Design package, so isn't there a program included in this package which I can use to make my magazine readable on internet?

    Yopu mean something like this:
    http://www.urbis.com.au/ftpupload/Annual_2010/annual2010.html
    or
    http://www.thefamousgrouse.com/tfgtimes/
I´m afraid you will need some help of third-party tools like eDocker (http://www.edocker.com)
Those samples have been done in InDesign and after exported as SWF, and finalized with eDocker2 Desktop Publisher.

Yes. Whether or not you transfer to Kobo, you can download eBooks you previously purchased at Reader Store until April 30, 2014. However, if you transfer your eBook library to Kobo via the transfer link, you will continue to have access to your eBooks after this date.
In a few rare cases, eBooks purchased at Reader Store may not be available at Kobo for re-download. In these situations, it is recommended that you download a copy of these titles from Reader Store before April 30, 2014…”

  • About background

    Hello there,
I do have a very old book (one of them, actually !), which has been printed on pure vellum.
All drawings are already scanned, ad 160ppi and saved with a TIFF format.
Now, i would like to know if i need to use the "Rectangle tool" to have a close background color to the pure vellum, or is there an other simplier way.
NB: Starting from a new workspace !
    Thanks for your comments,
    Jean

    Hi Peter, i hope you're fine !
    Thanks for your reaction.
As you already know, i'm new using InDesign, but i think i will love it !
I have lots of books and magazines, but...you know, it takes time and i'm a little bit puzzled ;-)
Scanning: Well, the pure vellum has a varius tint, and is grainy, so, i limited the resolution to 160 which is more then enough, because i'm not intend to print, but to export it into a PDF format or a eBook magazine.
I can re-scan all of it (only 43 drawings) at any resolution, if you think it would be better ,
BackGroung: Yes it should be a kind of standard for each page, but don't know how to proceed "as a clever expert will" !
Please be aware i'm starting some complicated application, and i like to take the necessary time, step by step.
So, if you accept, you'll be my "mentor" OK. ?
The book i'm talking about, is a very amusing one, and is titled in french: "Les Quinze Joyes de Mariage".
Trying to translate: "The Fiftien Joyous of Mariage" do you you get it ?
It's full of handmade colored drawings (Jokes, mostly !).
    Best regards,
    Jean

  • ADOBE Reader, Digital Editions, and nook

Hi, I do not know if I even am at the right place or not, so if not, then I apologize. Maybe you could direct me to the right place? I just purchased an ebook that will open on my computer with adobe reader but not digital editions. I want to transfer to my nook but have not been able to  figure out how. Can this be transferred to digital editions so that i can transfer? Or am I just dealing with a format that is not compatible  with nook at all?
Thank you for any help at all.

You may want to visit the support page for the Nook:
    http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nook/support/
Some Nook Q&A (from the support page) may be helpful.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    Q. What File Formats does nook support?**
Nook supports all eBooks, magazines, and newspapers sold at Barnes & Noble.com. You can also load many other files, including MP3s, as well as ePub, PDB and PDF files. See our nook Tech Specs page for a list of nook-supported file formats.
You can also load images for wallpaper and screensavers using the JPG, GIF, PNG, or BMP formats.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    Q. Can I put other files on my nook?**
X Yes, you can transfer files from your computer to your nook using a USB connection. You can transfer ePub and PDB files, as well as MP3s, PDFs, and image files (JPG, GIF, PNG, or BMP).
For more help on loading files to your nook, watch our Sideloading Content onto your nook how-to video.

  • Folder Location of Media Files

I'm using iTunes (latest release) on a Win7 PC mainly for syncing with various mobile devices. Accessing imported and purchased content through other applications on the PC is very annoying due to the fact that iTunes places all media files (Movies, Home Vidoes, Audiobooks, eBooks, Magazines, etc.) into the "Music" folder and creates folders with the respective media type names on the same hierarchy level as the folders for the artist name. The only option I see in iTunes is to move the entire media folder (which is incorrectly called Music) to a different location.
Question: How can I bring order to the folders and not have other media types inside the music folder?
    Thanks.

You don't have to re-rip, re-import or re-download all your content. You can clear the iTunes library, either by selecting all in the libary and pressing the Delete key, saying "no" when it asks if you want to remove the files themselves, and then use the Add To Library command, selecting the iTunes Media folder (or iTunes Music folder, as applicable to your situation), and that will add back all your content. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes; if it does, something may be amiss with your hard drive or the library file is corrupted (in which case just delete the library file and re-do the Add To Library command).
    Regards.

How do I move an item from my ipad device IOS 8 to the cloud?

You cannot put Amazon Kindle books on iCloud. They are DRM protected and can only ever exist on Amazon's own Cloud Service.
When you purchase a Book from Amazon you can select to send it to Cloud Reader:

You can use Amazon's Kindle App to access your Books.

Can anyone suggest why I cannot download Kindle books from the Cloud to my iPhone?

Kindle books are not on iCloud. Do you actually mean iCloud? See the title of your post. Kindle books are downloaded from Amazon's servers using the Kindle App on the iPad/iPhone.

  • Need advice! Ipad 3 16GB or 32 GB, buying in few days, super confused...

Hi guys, I would really appreciate any advice you can offer!
I just read some info that the apps optimized for the new Ipad are much bigger than the other apps so I'm really confused which one should I buy.
USAGE: I'm NOT going to use it for music (I have a nice mp3 player). May be I'll have like 1 GB of video  on it at all times, but I can reduce that, it's not that important. If I watch a movie, I'll definitely delete it after that. I'm not going to shoot movies or take pictures with it as well.
I'm definitely going to install many apps(suppose 30 of the most space demaning apps for IPAD 3 in the store,I just don't know how much space would 30-40 apps really take ?), much reading material (ebooks, magazines, comics etc), going to have few games for sure (suppose I have the top 5 largest games in the app store) and going to have like 1-2 GB of pictures at all times.
So considering all these details, how much do you think that is approximately going to take? I guess I'll also need like 1-2 GB free at all times just for the sake of it and for the fast functioning of the IPAD itself.
Thank you in advance for all your answers!
