Navigation is Horrendous - Customization? Nacbar Redesign

After working with Spiceworks, being a Web Developer, I've got to say the Navigation is not well thought out. I see similar complaints and then found the "Navbar Redesign" App. I know it says it doesn't work on the HelpDesk Dashboard but my question is, where DOES it work?
Only place I see it work is the App settings page! (/settings/apps) Open a ticket, it's gone, open Knowledge Base, it's gone. So I guess that was a FAIL.
What I'm thinking of doing is putting Spiceworks in an iframe so I can add my own nav links up top. Anyone else done anything like this?

Regarding the first level navigation par file customization

i require the help on the first level navigation par file customization.
i downloaded the rthe required par file from the server for changes.
the name of the par file is com.sap.portal.navigation.toplevelsingle..
my requirement on this par file is i want to add an image file (.gif) to the first level navigaton at the end of the header.
can u guide me how to do the chages to add an image in the top level navigation
header file for this in the par file.

Hi Sunil,
Do you really want to place the image at the right side of the TLN - or at the header (which is different)?
In the first case, there is a mixture of JavaScript and JSPs (containing JS) which build up the TLN, and this is quite complicated to understand (at least too complicate for a SDN thread). You would have to work through the code and try to modify it carefully.
In the secondd case, you are touching the wrong PAR, but you would know the right one (as you opened a different thread about such a modification).
Alternatively, you could try to use the light framework page, using the navigation tag library. This way, it is more easy to design your own UI, including the nav functionality.

The bookmarks button is missing from the navigation tool bar. When I right click and select customize it appears and when I click done on the customization box button, it disappears.

The bookmarks button is missing from the navigation toolbar. It appears when I right click on the navigation and click customize. As soon as I close the customization window it disappears again. I can no longer access the library to back up my bookmarks. Why did you change it from Firefox 3 where you could clock on the bookmarks tab and be able to backup your bookmarks?

Actually the Bookmarks Menu button doesn't appear because you have the Menu Bar visible in your first screenshot. The Bookmarks Menu button should appear to the right of the overflow chevron on the Bookmarks Toolbar if the Menu Bar is hidden.

Creating top navigation using user control

I want to create a custom user control that will display my own top navigation in my publishing site's master page.
I know another option is to use sharepoint's own top navigation and then customize it using CSS etc. but I have tried this thing and can't get my head around it. I mean it seems so difficult and very limited in functionality so I am trying to make top navigation
using user control.
Is there some API that will give me all links in navigation in SharePoint? Like for e.g. SPNavigation which I can call and iterate through all elements including parent or child?
What are the drawbacks of making top navigation as user control in master page?
Will end user be still be able to use Navigation options in SharePoint Administration?

You can customize global navigation at two levels. You can customise the display (how the menu is rendered) but utilize out-of-the-box navigation providers. It'll work if you just want to modify the way navigation is rendered. You can use delegate control
to replace sharepoint control with your own custom user control. In the user control you can access navigation data using SPNavigationProvider(s). However, if you want to customize navigation data - for exmaple, you want to apply some custom logics to show/hide
some navigation link - you need to write your own custom navigation providers.
What I've found, for static menu, managed metadata based navigation will be suffice for most of the scenario - so you don't need to customize the navigation. However for dynamic navigation, you need to write your own navigation control and provider. Reference:

I have lost the task bar/start menu, how do I get them back? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling without success, the other user on my computer does not have this problem.

Yesterday, I went to the site for levno computers, using my web access for my work email. I opened the page to view the outlet items and was never able to get back out of it. Finally used ctrl,alt,delete and ended the task. After that the this is what my task bar looks like, I cannot resize or exit using tabs at the top or bottom they are not showing, nor is start showing in the lower left hand corner where I like it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling that did not help.

This layout shows a folder tree on the left, a document list on the right. When you click on a document from the list it shows the contents of the file on the bottom of the iview.

How to display the content of a file in the portal?

Hey guys, could anyone help?
I just created a page which includes two iView, one is KM Navigation iView to display a certain repository, while the other is for displaying the content of a certain file I click in the navigation iView.
And now the problem is when I click a file in the KM Navigation iView, it will pop up a new window to display it. How can I make it displayed in a fixed iView, which type of this iView should be?

layout for KM navigation ivew (or customize to your own).
This layout shows a folder tree on the left, a document list on the right. When you click on a document from the list it shows the contents of the file on the bottom of the iview.

Add new tab button does not appear at the right of the previous tab

Just upgraded to Firefox 4 and the plus sign (T) for a new tab does not appear on the right of the previous tab as it had in earlier versions. I thought it was there briefly after I upgraded but it's not there anymore. How do I get it back? I did download the extension "new tab at the end" but that didn't help....

That button should be available by default. However, if you use tab related Add-ons it may not show up as expected. You can add it back by right clicking on the navigation bar, clicking Customize, then drag the New Tab icon to the right end of tab bar.
If that doesn't work, please try starting Firefox in Safemode to see if add-ons are indeed interfering.

How to display attachment and delete temporary file in Workflow

I have one question regarding function module SAP_WAPI_DIALOG_NOTES_DISPLAY.
When a text file is selected, the target file is downloaded to Sapworkdir, and it's automatically deleted after displaying,
This is pretty good behavior.
But an Excel file is selected, the downloaded file is remained.
I did not test other file types, but I need to delete such temporary files.
If anyone would answer to the following questions, it's highly appreciated.
1. This is a systematic difference or not?
2. How to know exact downloaded temporary file's name. ( I could search Sapworkdir and guess, but its' not good idea, I think.)

If this doesn't help, rightclick the navigation toolbar, select ''Customize...'' and click ''Restore Default Set''. If it doesn't appear right away, try pressing ALT or F10. You can go into ''View > Toolbars > Menu Bar'' to make it permanently visible.
If none of this helps, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Try disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal.

Transaction Master Data

Does anyone have a view of why the following may not work?
Problem: We want additional characteristics of the Sales Order presnet in our Sales Order Cube without having to drop and reload the data.
Proposal: Store the sales order as master data and hold all the characteristics of the Sales Order as attributes. Make all the attributes line item and navigational.
Proposal explored further: Redesign the cube so that it only contains the Sales Order Number, Sales Order Item and the key figures of the Sales Order. Have all other characterics as Nav Atts from the Sales Order Item master data.
Comments would be greatly appreciated.

You are right. It is possible to design the document no. with attributes (I already did that a few years ago as we haven't had the lo cockpit). But in your case you need to remodel the item no. The first step is to compound it with the document no and then add the attributes you need to the item no. Activate them as nav attrs. and load data to it. But on the other hand you need to delete the content of your cube because otherwise it is not possible to remodel the dimensions.
This is a really hard change to your actual model and you might think about other scenarios. One could be to have a ods before the cube to store the item information and delete the document and item from the cube....

Conditional formating in Pivot Table

Hi All,
I have 3 columns Year, Month & Sales in my pivot table. I have applied conditional formatting to sales column as
if sales < 20 million Red
Sales > 30 million green
Sales between 20, 30 yellow
Now,
I have set the drilldown such that, when i drill down the year it drills down to prod categories --> products --> etc
when i have just year, month & sales everything looks good, but when i drill down to next level ie: product category, the conditional formatting is getting carried to the next level which i dont want to.
Is there any way to make sure that the conditional formatting does not carry forward or give a new set of conditions to the next level.

With Navigation, you can customize the report that the parent report goes to when a user clicks on a value (or column). Set your child report with all the columns you want and with whatever conditional formatting you want.
On the value you want the user to click on to go to this child report, click on the format properties (finger icon) and click on the Column tab. Set the Value Interaction to Navigation and point to the child report.
In the child report, on the same column (you need to have the same column in the child report), add an "Is Prompted" filter.
This will give you full control of the conditional formatting you desired and the "drill down" effect.
