Navigation links--Back, Next--within a site

GoLive 7. Mac OS 10 final Tiger.
EXPLANATION
I have created pages containing thumbnails of my portfolio. There are 10 categories of work. Each thumbnail is 120 pxl wide if it is a one-page item or smaller, and 2-page spreads are typically 240 pxl wide.
The max number of items per page of thumbnails is 13. If there are more pieces to show in that category, I have created an additional page.
I also have 600 pxl images of each of those thumbnails. The goal is for a viewer who wants a closer look at the item to click on the thumbnail and then see the larger-size view of it.
Once I place the larger-size image on a page, it is easy to create a link from the thumbnail to that larger-size image.
QUESTIONS
On the larger-view page, would I need to create a link back to the category so a viewer can see what other thumbnails they'd like to click on to see the larger view? Or is there a less back-and-forth concept for doing this?
Can the larger-view page have a "Back" button if the viewer wants to review the thumbnails in that category? Can it also have a "Next" button so the viewer can see the next larger-view image without going back?
Reviewing two manuals I find no way to create either a "Back" or a "Next" button or link but since I've found them on other sites, I assume I can do this. Is there a simple way?
Thank you.

There are many ways to achieve what you want. However quite a few of
them such as Lightbox
require that you
edit the source code. This can become tricky and if you're not
comfortable with that, I'd recommend an alternative solution...
GL comes with an action called "Set Image URL" which is very useful to
build galleries. Nini has an excellent tutorial on how to use it:
as well as a sample gallery:
If this looks good to you, here is what I would suggest...
for every image category build a page that contains a large placeholder
image, where you want the full-size images to appear, and place all the
thumbs on that same page, too. Then use the Set Image URL action to swap
out the placeholder image for the full-size version of the thumb when
it's clicked on as described in Nini's tutorial.
If you get stuck post back.
Cheers Martin

    Hi spmorris,
I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
Finally, your issue may be because you've been hit with some [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Is%20my%20Firefox%20problem%20a%20result%20of%20malware?s=malware&r=0&e=sph&as=s#w_how-do-i-get-rid-of-malware Malware].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Solution sought: finding inter-linked pages within a site

    Hi,
Is there a button or function that tells me what other pages link to a page that I have open at the time? I know about Find and Replace, Check Links Sitewide and Change Link Sitewide, but none of these (that I can work out anyway) seem to have what I'm looking for.
    For example:
I have been asked to delete a page, and at the moment I have to remember or search for it's (relative) path, then type it into Find and Replace in order to find what else is linking to it within the site, then go through each page deleting the link (or use Change Link Sitewide).  It is the intial search that is the laborious part.
Ideally, a button that finds what links to the page I have open and brings back the results would be perfect (as in Find and Replace results), but in the meantime, a neat solution/process or function is sought.
I work in a large organisation with a large website, so this does crop up on a regular basis.
    I am using DW CS5.
    Thanks in advance.
    Merrin

DW doesn't have a magic button you can press that will show you which sites or pages in your site have links to a particular URL.
Use Google Webmaster Tools for this.
         1. Log-in to your account.
         2. Go to Your Site on the Web >  Internal Links.
         3. Type the URL of the page in question, Google will show you all the pages on your domain that link to that page.

  • Navigation Link failes : _layouts/15/AreaNavigationSettings.aspx fails to load on subsites

PROBLEM: The navigation link in Site Settings will only works on the root site. Any sub site I get the notorious "Sorry, something went wrong An unexpected error has occurred."
When I look at the logs I see the following that relate to the correlation ID below.  Any ideas on how to get Navigation working?
This was caused when I migrated sites from one farm to another and only if I created a new site collection and replaced the root site with one from the other farm.
    What I've Tried:
I've done this on other site collections where I moved the sites but made them subsites and did not overwrite the root site and the navigation feature works fine.  Even sites where I
didn't do a migration it worked great.
I've tried the following found at this link which seems to be the most popular solution but I've had no luck.

    Hi Craig,
I understand you encountered the issue with navigation link in the sites after migrated to another one.
The issue might be caused by
Navigation links that were added by site owners as relative links in the old site continued to work, and links that were added and managed automatically by SharePoint continued to work as well.
Please try the script in the article below and see if it fix the link:

  • Linking pages within my site

I know this is so easy, but for whatever reason it gets me
everytime!!!! I know how to create links with in my site but
everytime I test it in the browser only the first link works and
then the second works, but goes to a different page. I also want
every page to link back to the homepage but having issues with that
as well. I imagine it has to do with how my folders are set up on
the server. I have the info to log on remotely to the server if
anyone cares to see what I am doing....Please help...I just want my
    site up and running!!

I have looked at your web site and firstly I must say it
looks nice, clean, clear and attractive!
    From your first page you have;
    http://www.paisleyquill.com/index.html
    - all the header links are working fine.
When I click on the Wedding link from the index page it goes
    to;
    http://www.paisleyquill.com/weddings.html
    - That’s fine.
However if you click again on wedding link on the
    /wedding.html page it goes to:
    the anniversary page -
    http://www.paisleyquill.com/anniversary.html
I’m not sure you want the wedding link on this page to
go to the anniversary page do you?
If you want the wedding link on the wedding page to go back
you need to add the hyperlink -
    http://www.paisleyquill.com/index.html
    - so it goes back to that page.
I’m just trying to show you what you need to do step by
    step.
Write down on paper your page links and where you want them
    to go.
I’m not sure what software you’re using but in
dreamweaver you have a property box that shows you all your links.
Just highlight the words with the link in them and it shows you the
link in the property link box.
To find the property box go to the windows button on the top
of your dreamweaver page and your find the properties button. Click
on this and in the property panel should appear at the bottom of
you page. In there you will find a box with the word links. If you
put your page in Design or Split mode, again highlight the word
example Wedding and you will see that word with the hyperlink
viewable to it in the property link box.
I hope this will help you?

  • I am unable to reach the my content page of mysites from the name link within my site collection

For some reason I am no longer able to get to the personal mysites page from within our site collection. My name appears at the top right and it has an option for setting which leads to some minimal page but I can no longer use this to get to the actual
mysites page. Is there a setting I am missing that allows this to happen?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to reach the content page of mysites from the name link within site collection.
As this issue is always related to the inadequacy configuration about the MySite, you need to make sure that you had configured correctly with your MySite. You can refer to:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624362(v=office.14)
What’s more, you can also check with the following steps.
Make sure the Web site for MySites in IIS is started.
Make sure the App pool is running
Use ULSVIEWER to check your Sharepoint ULS logs for the issue.
There are two similar articles for your reference.

Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.

  • How to Set Individual Managed Metadata Navigation Links to Open in New Window?

I am using a managed metadata term set for the global navigation in my client's site. Most of the global navigation links point to pages in the current site, and should open in the current browser window/tab as the end user is just navigating within the
site content. However, I have one particular node in the navigation term set that points to related content scattered around other external sites. The client wants these links to open a new window.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to set the target for navigation links in the term set. If I was using standard global navigation, I'd be able to select the "Open in new window" checkbox when setting up the link, but that option doesn't appear to be
    supported via MMD navigation.
    Any clever suggestions?
    Thanks!

I had a similarish requirement at a client once upon a time, they wanted any links that went outside of the intranet web applications to open in a new window.
The way we managed that was to use jQuery to overwrite the standard hyperlink references for any hrefs that didn't point to internal sites to use the same javascript functions that SharePoint used for links configured to open in a new window. It worked out
as being about half a dozen lines; check the URL and if it doesn't begin with a set range of options then overwrite the on click behaviour using standard jQuery behaviour.
If you want it site wide then you just add jQuery and the code snippet to the master page, if you just want it in some places then add a CEWP or a HTML form web part to the relevant pages.

  • Providing a PS link to an internal Careers Site

    Hi,
Our functional staff has requested that the HCM navigational links to Career (“Root > Careers” and “Root >Self Service >Recruiting Activities > Careers”) access the Internal link created in the Careers Site Setup. This url is similar to the following:
    https://my.site.com:246/psp/DBDEV/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/c/HRS_HRAM_EMP.HRS_CE.GBL?Page=HRS_CE_HM_PRE&Action=A&SiteId=1400
When I access the URL I get a "You are not authorized to access this component" message. (I do have security)
Is it possible to create a PeopleSoft content reference that points to the Careers Site Internal URL and if so, how is it done?
Our Content reference is set up as Non-PeopleSoft URL but I have also tried PeopleSoft Generic URL and Worklist URL with the link defined above. Each URL type had a different error message and none were successful.
    Environment: HCM 9.1 HR #9, Tax 12-B, PT 8.51.15
    Thanks much,

I believe that I just solved this question. I changed the link back to a PeopleSoft Component adding the Career's component parameters for Menu, Market, and Component. Then, in order to link to a specific page I added query string parameters to the Additional Parameters field. In my case I added "Page=HRS_CE_HM_PRE&Action=A&SiteId=1400". This allows me to link to the specific page and the security is carried forward. I'm still testing but so far this appears to be a working resolution.

  • Why my navigational link is not working?

    Hello
I am a newbie and in the process of creating my first website.  My problem is navigation links.
I created a horizontal navigational link using Spry.  I've already written the link address for each tab navigation.  But when I view my web page using "Live View" and or press F12 or Ctrl F12 (IE and Firefox)
the link will only work on the first clicked tab.  Clicking the subsequent tabs would not work.
I tried to test a simple link by typing 5 words and linking them to 5 files accordingly.  The same result, that it will only work on the first clicked word and would not work subsequently.
Please help and thank you in advance.

If you haven't already, you'll need to procure space on a remote web server from a commercial hosting company.  When you've got the log-in details from your host, plug that info into Dreamweaver.
See Setting Up Local & Remote site folders (CS5 & CS5.5)
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/using/WS753df6af718a350a60097e0f131686fa2b4-7ff e.html
Upload your test page & dependant files to your remote server.
Come back here and post the URL to your problem page.
When your question is answered, you may remove the files from your remote server.

  • Can I add a custom .html page as a separate page within my site?

I'm creating a website for my local baseball association using iWeb 1.1.2.
I'm given several .xls files for schedules, rosters, etc. and I can save them as an .htm/hmtl page.
But within iWeb, it doesn't look like I can import them as a separate page within my site.
Is this possible? I suppose my only option is to create an external link to the pages correct?
Will iWeb '11 allow me to do this?
    Thanks!

Yes, you can in one of two ways:
1 - put the custom page on your server and embed it into one of your iWeb pages using an HTML snippet and iFrame code as done in this demo page: Embed a Site Within an iWeb Page.
2 - put the custom page on your server and in iWeb create a totally blank page, name it for the custom page and add the following redirect code in an HTML snippet:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "URL TO THE CUSTOM PAGE"; </script>
Thanks to Cyclosaurus for this code
When the visitor clicks on the page in your iWeb navbar they will immediately be redirected to the custom page.  You'll need to add a link on the custom page to send them back to your iWeb site.
If you modify/update the custom page it will be automatically updated in your iWeb site without having to open iWeb.
UPDATE:  3 - or add an HTML snippet to on of your pages and put the HTML code from the custom page into it.  That will display the custom page on your iWeb page.
