Navigation of Artists

Is there an easy way to navigate through artists (ex. find a specific artist) without using the scroll bar? I have a huge music library and even getting to a particular letter of the alphabet takes a bit of time. It would be cool if Apple would update iTunes with the alphabetical jump scroll bar like on iPhone. You just click a letter and the library jumps directly to all the artists starting with that letter. Even the old version of iTunes was friendlier to navigate b/c of the alphabetical list of artist at the top.

iTunes menu View -> Show browser.
You just click a letter and the library jumps directly to all the artists starting with that letter.
If you are sorted on the Artist column, it does.
It does this on any column you are sorted on. Just start typing.

ITunes Navigation: Genre = Artist = Album?

Having imported a large collection of CDs, I now see an inherent weakness in iTunes navigation methods.
It would seem natural to have the following "conversation" with iTunes:
Please show me all the artists in this genre.
(Thank you.)
Now please show me all the albums by one of those artists.
(Thank you.)
Now please play one of those albums for me.
(Thank you very much.)
It seems quite impossible to navigate iTunes in this way. Am I missing something? Or is this an enhancement I should request of Apple? If it's an enhancement request, does anyone else share this desire? (In searching the forum, I see no discussion of it.)

Switch on Browsing in your iTunes, it displays three panes Genre, Artist and Album which allow you to filter your main view. There's an icon like an eye in the top right corner just click on it. Alternatively go to Edit>Show Browser.

Navigating through artists menu

Happy New Year!
Does anyone have a suggestion for navigating through the artists menu? I have hundreds of artists and can't stand having to click (circle) all the way down the alphabet. Is there a feature that allows me to go straight to artists starting with "M" for example?

You need to have a iPod nano (Second Generation) and Fifth Generation iPod (Late 2006).
If it's an older iPod video, you do not have the search feature.

Also, the search feature displays all songs that contain (not start with) the letters you input.
You want the Fast scroll feature.
Again, this is avalable only with the latest iPod Update (on the 5G and Nano).

If you have more than 100 songs, videos, or other items, you can scroll quickly through
a long list by moving your thumb quickly on the Click Wheel.

Not all languages are supported.
To scroll quickly:
1 - Move your thumb quickly on the Click Wheel, to display a letter of the alphabet on the screen.
2 - Use the Click Wheel to navigate the alphabet until you find the first letter of the item you're looking for.
This takes you to the first item in the list beginning with that letter. Items beginning with a symbol or number appear before the letter “A.”
3 - Lift your thumb momentarily (or stop moving your thumb for about one second) to return to normal scrolling.
4 - Use the Click Wheel to finish navigating to the item you want.

Artist Sorting Issues or displaying artist name on iPod.

I have been struggling with this for a while now and it's really becoming irksome.
I have to have a compliation CD displayed as Various Artists when searching through my iPod on Artist browse mode, yet once the individual songs are played i want to be able to view the actual artist.
For instance i have a CD called Blues Essentials with various songs by different artists, i need these so show up under the same artist search reference as "Various Artists" however when the song is played it would be nice to see the actual recording artist, i have tried a combination of various renaming and nothing seems to work

Whatever is entered in the "Artist" field in iTunes will be displayed as the artist when you're navigating to the artist and when the song's actually playing.
What you're asking to do would require two different fields for two different sets of information.
One possibility is to change all the "Artists" to the actual recording artists and instead of navigating by artist on your iPod, navigate by album.

Your Music -- Album View under Artists [iOS]

When navigating the "artists" menu under "Your Music," please group the albums together when there is more than one so we can quickly find and play a specific album, rather than just placing all the songs by that aritsts in a list.

The new update to Spotify is a massive step forward for me. No longer will I scroll down and down and down and down to find a new album in my playlists. Brilliant!
But...Something is still missing.
The problem with the current versio of "Your Music" is that you can loose the ability to enjoy the music as the artisit indeeded, via their album. They spend days deciding what order to have the album, and with the current version of Spotify it makes it harder for you to pick out an album from the new "Your Music". All you can do is read the name under each track and work it out from there.
This is a simple fix for me. Just make the "Your Music" artisit page the same as the "Artist" page. Group the songs by album and allow is to play an album on its own.

Q: Zen Vision M Navigation Quest

I am about to buy a Zen Vision M mp3 player. There is one single issue which is extremely important to me but everyone using such a player should be able to answer it easily.
So, I have a huge collection of classical music. The normal id3 navigation using artist and album is of no use here (Think of a structure such as Mozart --> Piano Sonatas --> Sonate 2 --> Adagio). So I used to id 3 tag genre as a substitute for the composer of a work. My question would now be whether or not it's possible to access music on player in exactly this order: genre --> album --> artist --> title? Thank you very much for your help indeed!

If i understand what u are asking, what you have to do is press the 'Play/Pause' button when you have highlighted the Artist (in the long list of artists.). This will play all of that artists tracks in alphabetical order.

Spotify Premium Adverts/Annoncents and Other Issues

Hello I have been a paying customer for some months now and am finding the windows app to become progressively worse with each update. As I pay for an ad free service I struggle to understand the justification of an 'Announcement' banner which dominates the screen upon start up. This is nothing more than an advert with a different title. Not only is the banner very frustrating to have to hide each and every time the computer is restarted, I also have to deal with some of the ridiculous and insulting suggestion, such as todays 'one direction'. - In my opinion this I utter rubbish and is clearly not based on any of my previous listening habits. Next is the apps scrolling behaviour. The Spotify app once followed the standard Windows scrolling behaviour like all other software. After a so called update, the app now scrolls a whole page per notch of the mouse wheel. This make navigating through artist page very frustrating at best and sometimes near on impossible. This issue could be avoided if the scroll bar on the right hand side of the interface had used colours which contrast each other better that 'grey on grey' which has been chosen. My final annoyance is with the iOS app which makes my iPhone unresponsive and unusable. This has now forced me to return to iTunes on my device and delete the app. This is becoming increasingly painfully service to use and have not seen and fixes.Can I please has a quick and meaning full response or I will be forced to cancel this subscription and look elsewhere for a music service. Yes, your installation errors appear to be the innocuous false errors related to the brain-dead Flash installer. If the programs seem to be working fine, don't worry about it. As far as not being able to open images with Photoshop from Windows Explorer, I recommend taking that question to the Photoshop forum.

Pre-buying question: Fast scrolling a HUGE library

My intention for Apple TV is actually for music library looking ups - I have got a 100K songs ( yes, about 800GB )HUGE library, I think the TV screen provides much bigger browsing interface comparing to other wireless sharing server ( I'm currently a Roku M1000 user so you know everytime to find an artist is a torture... ), however I don't know if the ATV remote provides the fast scrolling between first character, it will be great to have that function which is offered on latest IPODs. I take a look at the atv remote and found out it is up/down scrolling instead of the wheel design, so guess if there is no first character scrolling then switching from A to Z will become impossible mission!

I don't have the library that you do, I have roughly the same usage of disc space but most is taken by movies, I only have around 10,000 tunes. I can however confirm that whilst the size of my library doesn't actually cause any issues, navigating the artist list is a bit tedious.
Unfortunately if you set up smart playlists for alphabetical groupings the list is displayed as song titles and not artists and so doesn't help.
For your information my artist count is 1401 and it takes the tv 13 seconds to scroll from first to last.

ITunes 11 locking up when video library is selected

iTunes 11 is completely locking up my PC when I try to view the video library; viewing and navigating songs, artists, and playlists is not a problem. After selecting the video library, the only way to get out of the app is to shut it down with the Task Manager. PC is running Vista on a Centrino Duo CPU. The iTunes library resides on a NAS drive.
Thoughts, anyone?

Looks like new firmware upgrade solved this issue.

Alphabetical Navigation on right side for Artists/Albums/Songs (Mobile)

There's a utility that allows you to move through alphabetical lists quickly via a thin alphabetical list on the right side of a list. For long alphabetical lists, this is almost necessary to quickly get to where you're going. Adding this to the right side of the Your Music sections that are alphabetically organized would be incredibly helpful.

I mostly use technology for education and professional audiovisuals and lights.
I don't sync music because I use music from at least 4 different computers. (manually mange music)
I use my iPad to play performance tracks for church and a local gospel group out of our church, Won4Christ.
I chose to buy the iPad because the laptop of one of the group members (dellxps running iTunes) was randomly losing and mixing up music and I wanted a more stable option that was bigger than my iPod touch.
I tried to add some data to music libraries that I previously added to my iPad, but the data only shows up when looking at the device in iTunes.
Wifi sync has not worked on either my laptop or desktop ( both running windows 7 enterprise 64 and newest iTunes) not really a big issue, but very annoying
When browsing through library playlist albums on the iPad, random artwork shows up on playlists with no artwork that you touch while dragging, and it does not go away until you change to another navigation tab and back.
Random songs out of hundreds that I added showed up in iTunes grayed out with a sync circle beside them. Those songs would play back okay on the iPad but were unplayable through the iTunes device view. I had to delete the songs manually through the library along with the playlist and add them again.
These seem to be major stability bugs in the "new" music app and iTunes. My only option right now seems to be to delete the songs that I want to change and re-add them with the changes already applied rather than changing the id3 tags and artwork on the existing music. I hope apple will release updates to resolve these issues.

Albums with multiple artists do not show up as one album in my library. How can I make them do this WITHOUT having to put all such albums in a playlist so they actually play properly?

Basically, I just got the Matrix Reloaded album off a friend of mine.
The album itself is comprised of multiple contributing artists.
Now, in any other media player, it would happily declare the album to be the product of Various Artists and leave it at that.
iTunes, on the other hand, seems to think I need one album titled "Matrix Reloaded" for every single artist who contributed, which not only looks hideous (I have enough trouble navigating the "Albums" page as is since it's not in any kind of alphabetical order) but also makes it a pain if I just want to put the album on to play and do something else.
The same thing occurs with another album, one of the Red vs Blue soundtracks by Jeff Williams; two of the songs in it are from "Jeff Williams & Steve Goldshein" which iTunes seems to think merits a whole seperate album which is entirely redundant.
At the moment I'm getting by through somewhat-length creation of playlists so I can actually listen to albums with the tracks where they're meant to be, but this should not even be necessary in the first place.
All my music currently is from when I made the jump from WMP after buying an iPod Touch, none of it was actually bought through iTunes.

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things. For compilations of tracks by different artists set the album artist to Various Artists and also set Part of a compilation to Yes on the Options tab.

Google Maps Navigation and Google Music problem

I love the LG G2 but it has a few concerning issues. First, is the squealling, hissing, cracking, popping, etc. during phone calls, but I have seen that brought up by others.
The second problem that I've discovered, and the most upsetting to me, is that when using the Google Maps Navigation and Google Music All Access at the same time, whenever the navigation voice instructs a direction, the music shuts off. It is then silent until the navigation voice instructs the next direction OR when a new track starts. This was not a problem on my droid bionic, so it must be an LG G2 issue. This is a huge problem to me as I travel a lot for work and usually use GPS to find where I'm going, and I subscribe to Google Music All Access so I listen to music in the car. This problem makes that impossible to do (I have to choose).
A related issue, is that my Alpine CD player displayed track information (Artist, Song, Album) with my Droid Bionic, but with the LG G2 it displays 'UNKNOWN'. I find it hard to believe that a two year old phone has capabilities that a brand new phone wouldn't, so I'm hoping these issues will be fixed with a software patch.
Has anybody else experienced these issues, or does it work fine with your LG G2?

Hawaii is a part of the USA so you will be fine there. Mexico on the other hand, you will be roaming for data there and could see extra charges for international data.

ITunes 11.2.0.114 Library Navigation no longer works by using keyboard shortcuts

In particular, when viewing my library via the "Albums" tab, I can no longer navigate to an artist simply by starting to type their corresponding letter. For example, before I updated to version 11.2.0.114 yesterday, I was able to type in the letter "s" and I would be navigated to the beginning of all the artists in my library starting with the letter "s". Likewise, if I would continue to type, "sa..." it would navigate to the corresponding artist/place in my library.
Now when I try to navigate through my library in this manner, it seems as if the letters have no meaning anymore; typing in "s" could bring me to artists in the "b" range.
I am using Windows 8. Please help if you can!

Exactly the same problem with me - iTunes 12.2.2, on OS X 10.9.3. It was perfect one day, then bam, the next day the keyboard shortcuts stopped working properly. It's pretty frustrating.

Navigating through iTunes browser with keyboard problem

It used to be that if I clicked in the Artists browser window and typed PAT, the window would scroll down to Patricia Kass. This is no longer the case. The strange thing is that it does this (or does not) on both computers of mine (G4 MDD and 12" PB). So it is probably due to something I installed. I tried a little bit of everything: repairing permissions, creating a new user account, deleting preferences, deleting additional pref panes… with no success. Keyboard navigating through a finder window works perfectly. Anywhere else to look? Or should I just buy a new Mac Pro? Thanks for any help!

If you are on the iphone there is a blue "app store" and a purple "itunes app" They are completely separate from each other, so if you are looking for music in the app store thats your problem. If you are in itunes on your mac or pc then there should be there should be a yellow area at the top with an apple logo in it, literally right beneath that there is a bar with two arrows, a home icon, and what probably says app store. Click on the home icon and you should be back to the main itunes store. Hope this helps.
