Hi bolsenior
Whilst in OVI Maps click "Search" (turn phone into landscape mode so that you can use full screen alphanumeric keyboard) and input co-ordinates as DD MM SS.SSS n DD MM SS.SSS w but you can miss off "leading zero's".

    Heya
You can search by coordinates in Ovi Maps by going to Options > Search > Address. Then Options > Search By Coordinates.

  • Mistakes with Ovi Maps - how often are they update...

I've noticed a few subtle mistakes with Ovi Maps driving around - for instance a street near me is actually blocked off at one end but the navigator tries to get you to turn into it, and another where it directs you to turn right but no right turn is allowed at that intersection.
Anyone know if these kind of things are corrected?

They are updated about 3 times a year if memory serves me right. Anyway, you can report errors like these to Nokia so they can fix it.

  • Is Nokia 5228 compatible with ovi maps

Hi,can anyone tell me if the 5228 is compatible with ovi maps?

    Hi!!
Try installing the version for Nokia 5233 http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download.
The 5228, and the 5233 are the same (has is the 5232) http://www.forum.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/5228/.
Not guaranteed to work though... Try it out and post back if you can.

  • N97 - tracking while navigating with Ovi Maps

I would like to be able to save my journeys, to view them in, say, Google Earth, and possibly also to have live tracking available for selected others to view, while I follow a route planned by Ovi Maps.
I have seen various possible applications and am just wondering if any will work reliably on a generic UK N97 under these circumstances.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Check Sporttracker.

  • [INFO TIPS] How to survive with Ovi Maps 3.0 insta...

Quick info tips. I wanna made this post earlier but I was on few days trip so didn't have a chance... but it's good coz I was tested GPS in real touristic environment.
I'm from Europe so I don't know how all links posted below will be works for people outside Europe.
My hardware: E63 with latest firmware + external GPS module LD-4W
Everything what we do here, we do with phone connected to the PC via USB cable in PC Suite mode and with fully battery charged.
If you have Maps 2.0, everything works well for you and you payed for any of licences - better stay with that version and don't touch Ovi Maps 3.0. Waste of time and nerves.
    1. Please make phone data backup in PC Suite. Please make data backup of your memory card.
    2. Check if you have firmware upgrade for your phone (click on some icon in PC Suite). But if you have cracked Symbian and you using cracked software better stay away from firmware upgrade. There's new cracking method for newest firmwares, ask Google. I don't use it, I'm clean. If you have new firmware - update the phone.
    3. Download MapLoader - http://europe.nokia.com/explore-services/maps/download-maps/map-loader Do fresh install or update old MapLoader
    4. Bluetooth MUST BE turn in phone. Why? Ask Nokia. -_- Just kidding but unfortunately it's not funny. Without Bluetooth Ovi Maps 3.0 installed in next step (6.) is crazy as hell. Application is completly unusable, skipping, switching... one big hell on the screen. I don't know how it looks like in phones with build in GPS module.
    5. Download Ovi Maps 3.0 - http://europe.nokia.com/explore-services/maps/download-maps and update with this installer old Maps 2.0 in the phone.
    6. Run Ovi Maps 3.0 and allow to download via Internet connection in your phone (wifi, gsm, 3g) some portion of initial data - 300 or 400kB - something like that, up to 1MB maximum then disconnect from Internet. It's needed to save some file (I don't remember name) and make structure of catalogues on memory card.
    7. Leave Ovi Maps 3.0 and run MapLoader. This application is one big pain in **bleep**. Sometimes doesn't see your phone, sometimes doesn't recognize correctly your memory card size (when you are finished downloading your map/s data that stupid soft can say to you "you don't have" or something like that)... horrible! If something goes wrong - try restart your PC and phone then connect again via USB cable - still in PC Suite mode.
    8. When luckily you have maps on your phone, try to pair your phone with your GPS module via Bluetooth or turn on build in module in other models (I think it works like that?).
    9. When you will be look out for licence for walk navigation... you cannot find it. You can see only your region name (in my case it was Europe) and you have an option to buy... licenses for drivers. ROTFL!  Licence for walk navigation is "hidden option". You must go here - http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/maps-support/how-to/how-to--use-map... - it's mini FAQ how to obtain it.
What I see, there's NO MORE free trial licenses in Maps v3.0 You must pay from day one. I buyed that licence for walk navigation for 10,12E (10 euro 12 euro cents) and it's not time restricted - looks like lifetime, ofc for the phone that you use (I think). Other licenses (for drivers) are time restricted (30 days and up as I remember).
Everything works fine for me. I was over 220km away from my hometown in awesome town Wrocław and Ovi Maps 3.0 helps me A LOT with navigation and searching for monuments in this town.

Ad. 1) "...Please make data backup of your memory card."
Because maybe you must be format memory card for proper maps installation (instead upgrade from Ovi Maps 3.0 installation level old installed maps from v2.0).

  • Problems with OVI Maps 3.4 for 5800 XpressMusic

I downloaded Ovi Maps 3.4 on my 5800 and now every time I try to start using maps, the screen goes dim and the phone restarts itself. What I have to do to solve this problem?
I was using the version 3.3 and the navigation was working perfect.

    Hi c_dzeprailidis
When you upgrade to OVI Maps v3.04 it adds an additional positioning method "Wi-Fi/Network which can cause issues for some users, so try disabling it. Go to Menu > Applications > Location > Positioning > Positioning methods.

  • N86 GPS won;t turn off with Ovi Maps 3.04

Ovi Maps 3.04 seems to have introduced a serious bug on the N86, in that after Maps has been run twice, the only way to turn off the GPS receiver and get rid of the GP icon is to switch off the phone.
Plenty of reports of same on the Nokia Ovi Maps Beta forums, see
    https://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-beta-for-mobile/bugreport/gps-receiver-not-turning-off-on-e...
Please can we have a fix for this urgently as it kills the phone's battery life - which is bad enough as it is.

I am experiencing this same problem with the GPS icon showing after exiting Ovi Maps 3.04 on my Nokia N86 8MP NAM version running the latest firmware 30.009.  .
This problem doesn't happen on my daughter's 5230.  So I know it is certainly a problem localized to the N86 8MP.

  • Route tracking with Ovi Maps without internet conn...

I have been trying to find an app, which would track my  route without connecting to the  internet. This is important in two cases: 1. when there is no service (in the mountains, for instance) 2. when it is prohibitively expensive (like abroad). It is great that I can download Ovi Maps for any location in the world, but I cannot really use it as every app that I know is trying to connect. I found one app, which came close, Parking 2. It does use Ove Maps and one would think that you can track back your car looking at the pre-loaded maps, but this is not the case. It still connects and then loads the maps (which are already pre-loaded on the phone!). And if there is no connection, there are no maps.
Does anyone know of a free or paid app, which can do exactly that: track your route based on the pre-loaded Ovi Maps without connecting to the net?
Thank you in advance for any info

@optiplex - I Understand where you are coming from. It sounds fairly simple. Unfortunately, the maps that ovi has for places like ladakh and other places in the Himalayas are fairly featureless. There are no contours on the map for where the terrain is mountainous. For instance, I have planned an expedition in the Tsomoriri - Peldo - Skarchyu sector. The Terrain ranges from 15000 ft to 22000 + ft. Straight line just aint gonna work. If the map were bit more detailed then I could actually set way points to the destination and then work one way point at a time. Unfortunately, while I am happy that the GPS on N8 works wonderfully well without GPRS/3G or any cellular network, the ovi maps are a let down, in that they are not very detailed. (not talking about cities and towns and not referring to drive navigation at all which according to me works beautifully.)

When I am hiking in the mountains, or when I am abroad touring across some city, I want to see my route on the map, so I can always find my way back.
    1. OVI Maps and Sport Tracker does not need Internet connection if you did the setting correctly.
    2. Sport Tracker will record your trail. The trail can be shown on the Sport Tracker maps. The trail record can also be exported out as KML file and on the PC screen, display the trail on Google Earth.
Unfortunately, I don't think you can use the trail record to guide you back to your starting position while in the mountain.
So how about this method using OVI maps.
    1. Set your Walk navigation to "Straight Line" instead of "Street".
    2. Record your starting position as a Favorite on OVI Maps.
    3. Walk into the mountain.
    3. Use OVI Maps to navigate back to your starting position by selecting "Walk to". OVI maps will show how far and the built in compass will show you which direction is your starting position.
Not sure whether this is what you needed.

  • Crash E90 with Ovi Maps 3

I have updated Nokia Maps 2 to the latest version of OVI Map 3 incl. maps, my firmware is the latest too. I can navigate and using it perfectly, but my phn crash immediatelly when selecting "Search/Address". Is there a help or workaround?
Thanks for any advise in advance!
    Val

    Hi,
If you have installed an update of Nokia Maps and updated the firmware software of your mobile device (“firmware reflash”) afterwards, a former version of Nokia Maps has been re-installed on your mobile device together with the firmware software. As this former Nokia Maps version might not be compatible with the map data of the newer version you used beforehand, the application may crash. To avoid this, simply re-install the latest version of Nokia Maps on your mobile device. This will correct the problem of your application crashing.
    hope this will help you..

  • E52 internal GPS fix problem only with OVI Maps

    Hi all,
I read many many E52 phones suffer Internal GPS fix problems.
I don't beleve this is an hardware problem, but only a software bug.
    My experiments say this:
    1) Start phone, start Ovi Maps -> No lock at all. (only 1 blinking line in bottom left corner)
    2) Start phone, start McGuider (Sygic) navigator -> E52 locks quite immedeately. (in the same place!!)
    3) After GPS is locked, start Ovi Maps again. Now also Maps works great!
    4) Also the gps built-in application under Menu->Applications->GPS->GPS Data has the same behaviour as Ovi Maps.
Anyone can try and report this or similar experience?
    Thank you!

    Thank you for the response.
I'm sure the fix is faster if i use A-GPS, but i i have to pay for data connection.
And, above all, Sygic works perfectly WITHOUT A-GPS, so why Ovi Maps does not?
Yes, you have to pay, but the connection takes about 20sec. About Sygic you're right I noticed that too. It locks pretty fast.

  • Error with ovi map for Cyprus

Today I updated my Cyprus Map.  The roads are not displaying - only the outline of the island.  The previous Cyprus map had the roads on.

    Thanks for your input spyrosy.
I can believe your general statement.  However; If you go to the ovi map selection site; Cyprus is still listed as a map to choose!
Going slightly off subject; I have a Garmin nuvi.  I tried to get a Cyprus map for that.  The main Garmin site does not offer it.  However www.garmincyprus.com do have one on offer.  I have emailed Garmin for an explanation.

  • What is with ovi maps?...................help!

I must confess am not mobile phone-savvy...... got myself a Nokia 6210 navigator and thought I would enjoy the maps and other features. I installed the new version of maps as the PC suite indicated I was to upgrade. I don't have any maps now. all it shows is my position on GPS........everytime I try to search it says,no results found. somebody tell how I should go about accessing maps.
Thanks for your advice in advance.

Thanks for the link....... I have tried but still am not getting maps.
I went to the map loader and it tells to connect via mass storage...The Pc suite says my device is connecteding in a non-compatible way...finally when I get to the map loader and choose Europe it shows I don't have enough memory.
This is really confusing for me.
Do you mind telling me how to about it step by step.
Is it that I don't have enough storage coz I still have old maps(thought I had deleted!)
With all this hussle..... wish I never clicked update for maps!
