Navigation to detail form

Hai,
I have a Jframe with two panels, built separately from one another. One panel is the navigation on the left side ( a JTree), and the right panel is the details shown when user selects a tree node. I have to implement various views for the right side, so I have externalized the building of that panel.
I decided I had to write a factory class which would get instances of the right view. So when the user selects a node, that node type is passed in to a factory class which initializes an appropriate jpanel and is loaded in the right side. I guess my question is what is the best way to implement something like this, and keep my code modular. How do I share variables/ objects between the two panels (usually its all in one global panel, but here their built separately). E.g. When the user is authenticated it receives various user-specific option (a user bean?), which needs to be accessed by the app for the entire time the user is logged in.
also, best way to add action/list listeners to each view (inner classes, separate classes?) Any ideas java gurus? Thanks.

Use a CardLayout for the right panel.
All implementations of details should extend an interface, perhaps
DetailsView. Have a control object (maybe a map?) that takes
selection data from the tree and determines which card to display.
Communication between the tree and the details views should all be
through the DetailsView interface.
If you need to talk back and forth between the implementations and
the tree, I guess you could use a mediator, but I suggest you try
to avoid it.

  • Is this a bug? master rowid value lost when saving on a master/detail form

    master/detail forms seem to lose the rowid after saving, if the unique identifier is set to ROWID
    to reproduce the problem:
    1) create a master detail form on DEPT/EMP
    -- choose 'Managed by Database (ROWID)' on the 'Define Primary Key' page.
    -- do not include master row navigation (but i don't think this matters)
    -- choose 'Edit detail as tabular form on same page' on the 'Choose Layout' page
    -- include the master report
    2) on the master/detail page, change the conditional branch that returns to the master report page
    -- the normal condition for this branch is request in SAVE,DELETE,CREATE
    -- change it to request in DELETE,CREATE
    3) run the form and save a change
    -- saves fine, session shows the ROWID value is still set
    4) save a second change
    -- change does not save, form reverts to Create mode
    this problem does not occur when using the primary key columns instead of rowid
    see http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=60813:7 for the ROWID version
    see http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=60813:11 for the PK column version

    Hi Saverio,
    Bug *13563808* has been logged to track the reported issue, and a fix will be made available in a future release. Just to clarify, this issue is only arising when the APEX-generated Master-Detail is modified post-generation, so for users who have not modified their Master-Details using ROWID to manage their DML processes, they should not experience this issue.
    In relation to my workaround, my suggestion works in my test environment, which I verified before posting the initial suggestion. Please note that the 'Reset Page' process is, by default, conditional on the "Delete" button being pressed. If you have made further modifications to your Master-Detail page, then this might explain why you're seeing different behaviour to me. You might using the "Debug" option on the Developer Toolbar useful. Viewing the debug information should help you to decipher what's going on/wrong on your page. If you still can't resolve the issue, then the safest option might be to revert the page back to it's original state, meaning the user navigates back to the Report page upon submitting changes to the Master-Detail Form page.

  • Master-detail form (my detail is in a new canevas-- new window)

    Hello,
    I have a Master-detail form, in my detail when i select a row i want to show an other canevas that becomes a detail for this selected row. i constructed the relationship between my first detail block and my new canevas that contains the detail for the selected row. When I select a row Oracle didn't show me the deatil for this row in the other canevas, i wondered me why? because I thought the relationship between them should atomatically drive the data for the other canevas. If i 'm wong, does someone could tell me what to do to call my canevas detail.
    Master--->details(selected row become master)--->new canevas(contains details)
    the relationship is done between my first detail block and my new details block.

    Hi,
    POST-QUERY is definitly the wrong trigger to do what you want to achieve.
    1. The usage of GO_BLOCK in POST-QUERY is not allowed and it will not work.
    2. The detail must be synchronized when navigating in the master-record, not when populating the block
    So the right trigger to do what you want to is the ON-POPULATE-DETAILS-Trigger.
    Problem on this: It will only work if you have a relation on the master-block to the detail block.
    But that's also possible even if you do not have a "direct" relation between the master and the detail block.
    Just create a relation between the blocks based on some dummy-item and then go to the item in the detail-block and set its property "Copy value from" to NULL.
    Now you can add your logic in the ON-POPULATE-DETAILS-Trigger.
    Still one problem left: Where is the window you're going to show placed? If it's on to of the window where the items from the master-block are displayed, then immediately after querying the records in the detail-block the navigation back to the master-block will cause the other window to be shown again (and therefore your detail-window to be hidden again).
    hope this helps

  • Error "field required" in master-detail form with FORMS 10G!!

    I have a Master-Detail Form.
    When the cursor stay in detail block and i chage the master record with the mouse, clicking in scroll bar, i get error "field required".
    In Forms 6i, works fine!!

    Master block has more than one record displayed. When I click on any item in detail (except first one) and then click on different master record (return navigation to master block, but not current record) I have FRM-40202: Field must be entered on first item in detail block.
    I found that reason is this part of clear_all_master_details procedure (automatically created by Oracle Forms):
    IF :System.Cursor_Item <> startitm THEN
    Go_Item(startitm);
    Check_Package_Failure;
    END IF;
    Does any have same experience?
    Is it Oracle bug or I am missing something?

  • JTable problem in master detail form

    I've created a master detail form. There is only one Navigation bar for both master and detail. Detail has a JTable component. JTable doesn't get focus when it doesn't have any row and I am uanble to insert new rows. To cope with this problem I've added two new buttons in Navigation Bar to travers to the next and previous iterBinding.
    When I start my form cursor apperas in the first field of master view when I press Next Button nothing happens ( Status Bar should show the next iterbinding/view). I've addes some debug mesgs in iterBindingChanged method of NavitaionBar class and it seems by looking the mesgs that detail/Jtable's iterBinding get focus two times but at last focus has been returned to the master iterBinding.
    Is there any suggestion to solve this problem.
    Regards
    Aamir

    Hi,
    I'm using 1.4.0 for my JClient and, due to the improved focus management provided in the new JDK, I am able to properly manage master-details configuration with only one navigation bar (of course, the JTable must be able to receive the focus, but this also is much easier in 1.4.0...)
    Nevertheless, the solution I found is quite complex and I would happily discard it.
    If you could find a solution that works "naturally" on frames with only one navigation bar, it would be great! I think that the buttons in the nav bar should apply to the "current" iterator binding (the iterator binding for the control having the focus).
    Thanks,
    Adrian

  • ADF Master Detail Forms

    Hi,
    We have a master detail views and the master detail relationship is working fine between the views. We have a requirement to display one master form and 2 detail forms (user has to see two detail forms) to the user. The default master detail relationships in ADF are displaying one master form and one detail form with the navigation controls. Can you please suggest ideal approach for displaying multiple detail forms.
    We tried with the af:iterator for displaying details collection model as multiple forms. But the problem with the current approach, we are unable to get the reference to the detail record when a value is changed in the detail form.
    <af:iterator id="i1" varStatus="vs" value="#{bindings.BillDetailVO11.collectionModel}" var="row">
    <af:inputDate id="serviceDate"
    label="Service Date"
    value="#{row.ServiceDate}" *valueChangeListener="#{backingbean.myvaluechangelistener}"*
    columns="9"/>
    <af:inputText id="it1122" label="POS"
    value="#{row.PlaceServiceCode}"
    columns="4"/>
    </af:iterator>
    I am comfortable with the iterator approach if I can get the value of PlaceServiceCode for the same row in the detail form when the ServiceDate value changes. I am ready to try for alternative approaches for displaying multiple detail forms.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi Shay,
    Thank you for responding to my query. I followed the steps in the blog and created two detail forms. But both the detail forms are representing the same detail record. Our requirement is little different.
    We have to create a master detail form (Bill Summary with Bill Lines) to edit the bill summary with lines and display two Bill lines along with summary to the user.If hte number of bill lines are more than 2 then we have to display navigation controls to the user to navigate across the bill lines.
    As an example the form data comes from Bill_summary(Master) and Bill_Lines (detail) tables. If the number of Bill Lines are 5 then we have to display the form as follows. if the user selects next the form should display 2,3 lines, 3,4 lines etc.
    BILL_SUMMARY
    BILL_LINE 1
    BILL_LINE 2
    <Navigation control for the details>

  • Master/Details Form -- Relation Property

    Is it possible to set the relation join condition property for a master/detail form programmatically. If so, what is the syntax?
    Thanks,
    Paul Howard
    [email protected]

    Use this built in
    SET_RELATION_PROPERTY
    (relation_name VARCHAR2,
    property NUMBER,
    value NUMBER);
    for more detail check from the help topics. Thanks for the info but the property I want to set isn't a listed property for that built-in. I need to change the actual join statement in the relation object. This is what I'm attempting to accomplish.
    I have a master-detail form with the master block containing 1 field (mfg_date)/ detail block containing order information(multiple records). This form allows me to step thru my orders by mfg_date. I need to be able to also step thru these orders by due_date if the operator chooses with a radio button. If I change the query_data_name and the the actual join statement in the relation object from the object navigator and compile and run it works fine. I can change the query_data_name programmatically but I can't find any info on changing the join statement programatically. Or is there another way to change the master block within the same form some other way?
    Thanks for any pointers!

  • Problems in Master-Detail forms when the detail contains LOVs

    I am having problems with master detail forms when the detail contains and lov.
    In my detail form I have a messageLovInput field that returns 2 values (code and description). When the lov window returns both values the messageLovInput disappear from the form.
    This problem happens only when I iterate in the master view and I try to add a record in the detail form.
    If I add a new record without navigation for the master view there is no problem.

    Jode,
    which technology are you using, ADF JClient ? If yes, please provide a step by step description of how to setup a testcase to reproduce the problem.

    go to the code of your button and change write the following
    go_block('name of your master block');
    execute_query(no_validate);
    and in the object navigator make the first item in the master
    block that it should be displayed in the canvas and it must be a
    navigable item too.not a display item.

  • Master-Details form - integrity constraint

    Hi,
    I have created a simple master-detail form. Master block is based on say Table1 with 2 columns and detail block is based on Table2 with 4 columns.
    When I am trying to create records using this form, I enter data in the Master block and then navigate to the detail block and then enter data. When I press the save button,
    the form throws error message "ORA-02291: integrity constraint (APPS.FK_RECORD_IDENTIFIER) violated - parent key not found"
    When I check the query using Help->Diagnostics->display database error, the insert statement is insert into table2 values (......
    I guess, the form is trying to insert data into table2 first. Since there is no corresponding entry in Table1, hence the error. What should be done, so that the form inserts Master block data into table1 first before attempting to insert data into detail block.
    Regards
    Suresh

    Suresh,
    In the Object Navigator view, check the block order under the Data Blocks section. The Master Block should come first, and then only the detail should come. If its is not like that, then change the order of the blocks by dragging the master block to top of the blocks.

    Manu.

  • Urgent Issue - Immediate=true vs Detail form behavior

    I have an ADF Faces Master Table and a Detail Form (both on the same page - this is a functional requirement). They were created using the ADF Faces Master Table Detail Form Control and are based on a Master Detail Entity based View Object.
    The underlying Entity Object has some basic validations (ex: Required Name, Address)
    I have different actions in the page (Save, Add, Delete), all of them execute the corresponding data control methods.
    For Delete and Add I want to bypass input validation so I set immediate="true". So far so good.
    Now the issue (or bug):
    1. The user selects a record from the master table.
    2. The user modifies some values of that record in the detail form (ex: name).
    3. The user hits Save - > Values are committed to the database and the master table is refreshed with the detail values.
    4. The user hits Add (note that previous values are still there).
    5. The user enters Add mode but the values from the previous record are still there.
    Correct behavior should be that the current form values are cleared out when hitting add.
    I already tried the following in the Entity Object Impl class with no luck:
    protected void create(AttributeList attributeList) {
    setName("");
    super.create(attributeList);
    The only way I see it works is by setting immediate="false", but validations are not bypassed here.
    Any suggestions / experience with this issue is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Claudio.

    Hi there, I had the same problem and between us at work we spent 5 days trying to figure this out. The solution is:
    * The 'Cancel' commandButton (or commandLink) has immediate="true"
    * The inputText fields do not specify immediate (and are therefore immediate="false")
    * The action in the backing bean invoked on Cancel click must return an outcome, eg. "list"
    * There must be a navigation rule in faces-config.xml for the action, eg. as follows
    <navigation-rule>
         <from-view-id>/Admin.jsp</from-view-id>
         <navigation-case>
              <from-outcome>list</from-outcome>
              <to-view-id>/Admin.jsp</to-view-id>
         </navigation-case>
    </navigation-rule>* sessionMap.remove("/Admin.jsp") is not necessary
    If the action outcome string is null or cannot be found in faces-config.xml, then stale values from the component tree are re-displayed - the bane of many JSF programmers lives. Tinkering with the UIViewRoot seems to have no effect.
    Hope this help...
