Navigation with Nokia Maps crash (N95 8Gb)

Hi All.
Does anyone have this problem, when the Nokia Maps start Navigation and is calculation route, Crash !
Thanks,

Here's my brand new, maps crashing issue; For some bizzare reason, I thought I'd try to use a-gps. I've always had pretty good luck with the thing syncing but it could be better.
I recently came to Germany and got a MOBI (vodafone) sim card and I set vodafone live as my provider. It didn't seem to be any faster so I went into setting, (in maps) and tried to turn it off.
The problem is; I can't. When I go into Maps settings and click on Network, it shuts off Maps or reboots the phone. Now, whenever I turn on maps, it logs onto vodafone and burns off all of my credit in about 5 minutes...and I can't turn it off and I can't use maps without using all of my expensive credit.
It's really **bleep** me off. This is the first software issue I've had with this thing and I have no idea how to solve it. I've gone into Tools>General>Positioning methods and only have Integrated gps checked but it's still logging on.
It's a real pain. If I could remember my lock code, I'd reset everything to default.
Any idea...?
Thanks

  • Special characters issue with Nokia Maps on N95

    Hi there,
when using Navigation in conjunction with Nokia Maps on my N95, all streets and towns which contain any special character in their name (for example: é, è, ü, ä, ö, etc…) do appear as unreadable garbage on the screen of the N95.
I only noticed the problem after having purchased the 3 years license Navigation upgrade (EUR 99.99) and immediately notified Nokia. That was back in October. Since then I have called them at least 10 times and ultimately I have asked for a refund as no solution is still available.
In all these calls with Nokia, the only reasonable argument I heard was that maybe (!!!) the new software update version 20.0.015 released back at the end of November could solve the issue. Unfortunately, for my phone (which is a branded one) the update is not yet available.
Today, after calling them again, I was told that Nokia’s policies do not foresee refunds and therefore my request has been rejected. I was told to bring my phone to a Nokia Store and see if they can help me (I don’t see how). I was also told that maybe I would have to send-in the phone for repair.
This is soooo frustrating that despite the 3 months of patience and all the money spent for the N95 (not quite cheap), the navigation upgrade and the phone calls to Nokia, I still have the same issue. I will probably end up filing a complaint with a monthly consumer’s magazine in the hope they will publish my story.
After all, it may not even be Nokia’s fault but rather the guys who are responsible for the maps, but if Nokia accepts to have a commercial venture with a vendor, than they also accept liability for the joint product. And by turning down my legitimate request for refund, they have proven not to give a **bleep** about people like you and me.
Forgive me for the long post - needed to release some of the frustration...

I have been using an N95-8GB since Nov.'07. From my experience with this phone that has a built-in mass memory besides the phone memory. I had trouble retrieving some of the softwares I have installed. For eg. I have saved some themes in the mass memory & I could not find it when I want to delete it. There are some 3rd parties games software inside where I cannot even delete
This is what I don't like about the phone. I have bought an N82/Black recently as it uses an external memory card.
Coming back to Nokia maps. Personnaly, I don't think they are that good & I have problem downloading it into my phone from my PC after having downloaded it from Nokia.
By the way the Nokia map is not even the latest map 2.0. Is still a 1.0
I used Navfone map software & it works OK in the 8GB. You have to purchase it.
    I have used a couple of N-series phones in the past ie. N-90, N-70, N-71, N-73, N-80/Black, N95, N-95/8GB & now N-82.
Common with all N-series phones. After you have disconnected when you are done with your call you have to wait for a while before the word "disconnected" disappears.
The more features it has, the more problem you are gonna to encounter.
Unless you want to download softwares into your phone & have a good camera thats where the N series phones come in.
For normal usage, a 40 series phone will suffice.

Really doesn't sound good, you could go to Menu > Tools > Settings > Phone > Network > Network mode - see if changing from dual mode to UMTS or GSM makes any difference; could also try brand new SIM card in case contacts in device SIM holder getting a bit worn but probably clutching at straws!

  • Transfer Nokia maps to N95

    Hello anybody,
    I have bought a Nokia N95,
i have downloaded maps from route 66.
I want to transfer them to my nokia but i do not know which ap to
    to put them in.
the files are all with .prm
    can anyone help.
ps. these are not maps from nokia.com butt full maps from route 66

    Hi rummeke
Whereas the Nokia 6110 Navigator was in development prior to Nokia's acquisition of Smart2Go and uses Route 66 mapping, there is no way of using Route 66 maps with Nokia Maps application that I know of unfortunately as they are incompatible.

  • N70-Nokia Maps crashes simulating a not trivial tr...

    Hi everybody,
I have a N70 with Nokia Maps 1.0 and I have the following issue: when I try to calculate the path from one place to another one, if this second place is quite far or is inside a big town (e.g. a trip of 400 km or from the south of a big city to the north, going through downtown), well, Nokia Maps crashes. Does anybody else with N70 have the same problem? If the path is not so long (20 km) or not so tricky (few instructions) everything is ok. Any suggestion to understand why this occurs and how to solve it? Thanks.

The N70 is one of the early n-series models, its phone memory is quite small (a little over 20Mb if I remember correctly), so it could be just an issue that the phone doesn't have enough processing power.
You could try making sure that all other apps are closed whilst you are using Maps, and also remove any installed stuff from the phone memory that you don't need (for example, if you have a memory card, you could move music and images to that to free up processing space in the phone memory).

  • N97 MINI V12 Backup error with Nokia Maps Beta 3.0...

After installation nokia maps 3.06 beta on my fresh hardware reset n97 mini v12 is not possible to make backup from mobile to Memory card from File manager. Phone memory on C: is 220 MB.
With nokia maps 3.04 backup is ok, with 3.06 error: Memory full, operation canceled (kind)
I think firmware upgrade from v12 to v20 delay, the reason nokia maps 3.06 is not perfectly integred full functionaly in new firmware.

have the same problem. I think its a bug in SW 12.. , after a hard reset it worked well until I installed some programs (incl. Maps 3.06). Backup only with PC or Ovi Suite able to do.

  • N95 with Nokia Maps

How do I update my maps app to the latest version, 2.0?
    Thanks

    Hi
May be wrong but think I read somewhere that if you update your N95 to latest V30.0.015 it will have Nokia Maps v2.0_2602, but it will decline to install latest v2.0_3204 available for some reason; don't know whether license manager has anything to do with it.

  • How to remove map from n95 8gb

i have no use for the map in my n95 8gb.its of no use to me and wanted to remove it.how to do it and if i remove it will it make any difference in the speed of my phone

    Nokia Software Update.
It will wipe clean the phone and re-write it again. With everything the same as if it were bought new. If the firmware has been updated then you may get new added features and fixed known bugs or issues with the phone
P.s dont do it if you dont fully understand how. You can destroy the phone if done incorrectly.

  • HELP maps on N95 8gb won't load up

I have taken delivery of my new B95 8gb phone today.
I go onto the maps icon and press the start button.
I get the pic of the world and maps starts to load up.
When the bar gets to 30% it jumps back to the menu screen.
I've installed the latest version, that didn't work.
I've tried to remove maps altogether with a view to re installing it and that didn't work.
    Someone please help me !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I presume when you got the phone it had Nokia Maps V1.0 installed and you subsequently upgraded it to V2.0. In order for V2.0 to work you will have to download the latest map data as well.
Download Map Loader 1.3.8 rom the same site you downloaded Maps V2.0 from. Install it and use it to download latest map data.
Try to run Maps again after that.

  • Nokia Maps Crashing

I have some problems with my Nokia Maps 2.0 on my N82 after downloading a weather application (from the N82 menu 'download' option). First, it regularly crashes the phone - especially when trying to calculate a route. It struggles with the 'Walk' function, and will soon crash the phone. I have removed the weather application from the phone, but the phone is still unstable. Also I haven't now got an option in Maps to save a location, and in another menu, the 'Favourite Places' doesn't work. However, I have a list of some of my saved places in the 'History' option. I've spoken to Nokia for approx. 4 hours over this, but they are puzzled!
What's going on? How can I get Maps to work perfectly on my phone again? I would strongly urge caution on using the 'Download' option on the phone's menu. Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Nokia Maps v3.09 devours more phone memory than earlier versions and memory leakage only becomes more apparent when application used for several hours, which may well account for such behaviour.

  • Cost of Navigation Use Nokia Maps

    Hi there,
I am a proud owner of a Nokia 5800 and I am trying to understand the way navigation works. Ik have a question about using Nokia Maps. The question is about the costs.
I can find 4 options of positioning:
    - Assisted GPS
    - Integrated GPS
    - Bluetooth GPS
    - based on network
I don't use Bluetooth GPS. I have checked Integrated GPS. Because I do not have a data subscription I would like my navigation to be completely free. I know that Assisted GPS does uses data. What I am not able to find on the internet is whether the option "based on network" is free of charges or not.
    Can anybody help me out?
Thanks a lot in advance for the answer!

Hi Michel, this is the response I recently received to my 'cost' enquiry - navigating on Ovi maps is  free of charge. However, once you start to search for a place, computing for your exact location this will be the time that you will be charged by your network provider because of data transfer, i.e. whether you use the OVI on the computer or use your mobile out and about  it ain't for free!  Bundchen
    You were given false information.
Points Of Interest and Places can be looked up 100% free. Rather, it's some basic settings in each phone that need to be disabled to be used 100% free of network costs.
See this topic for more information:

The GPS chips in phones are usually very insensitive, so they have to use these silly tricks to make them work better. Disabling these 'silly tricks' will definitely stop them but a bluetooth GPS unit for your phone doesn't need these tricks (and neither do dedicated GPS units) because they have great sensitivity and just communicate with the GPS satellites as they should, quickly and reliably.
That being said, switching to Satellite or Terrain map views in the software will request internet access, as will other features. Ignoring these things and just using the software as a regular GPS unit will allow you to use the maps and navigation and address and points-of-interest look-up without any costs whatsoever. So even if you are pre-paid, you won't get a cent taken from you.
The major problem is the poor GPS in phones being reliant on these extra features that use the network.

  • Nokia Maps Crashes

    Hi,
Loaded Nokia Maps 2 on my N95 with 1gig memory card in phone. Problem i have is that Maps shuts down after about an hour of driving. I have the incar charger plugged into the phone when the maps are in use.
    The phone software is V12.0.013
    19-06-07
    RM-159
    Nokia N95(42.03)
    on the UK 3 network.
    Any tips would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi soupakanja,
The Nokia instructions do say that if you install the Nokia Maps 2 into N95, the phone must have the latest 20.0.15 firmware in it.
Also I think that the 1 GB card is too small for Maps. Especially the satellite maps take space. Downloading a single city takes several hundreds of megabits (> 100 Mb).
