NB Cooler question

Does it make sense to remove that cooler from the 875P Neo-FIS2R and replace the stock thermal compound with Arctic Silver 3 thermal compound? How easy is that? Or is the cooler glued to the NB?

Dont know if the Akasa will have an rpm sensor, the Sunon doesnt (as far as i can tell from info) ...will use one on the north bridge and the other in my spare CD-ROM position

UPDATE:- Fans arrived this morning and both have Tacho sensors  :D ...god knows where AKASA get 19 CFM from there fan gives about half the air flow of the Sunon (rated at 8.9 CFM)
The AKASA is the one im using for the north bridge replacement, it runs at 6000 rpm and looks exactly the same as the standard NB fan (40x40x10) except black with no disco lights!!!  :D
The Sunon gives better air flow but whines (7500 rpm),also its 40x40x25 -chunky ...i'll use this in my spare CD-Rom slot for added case cooling (probably on 7v to stop the whine)
I got both these fans here (UK only):-

  • Power Supply Cooling Question

Well, I've been up and running now for the last week or so with no major issues.
I'd like to thank all of you that answered my previous questions during my search for parts and helping me put a good plan in place so that the building of this system was painless.
I have a question though that kind of concerns me.
I noticed one day that what should be an exhaust from the power supply is not an exhaust at all.  The air flow is actually into the power supply.  I thought this was very unusal.  Years ago I actually did have a power supply that had a fan mounted backwards, but that was some cheap case/ps combo in the P2 days.
My power supply in this system is an Enermax EG465P-VE.  I said to myself "no way could it be mounted backwards".  After checking things out very closely I found that when I removed the side case cover, the power supply started exhausting in the right direction.  Put the case cover back on and the air flow went into the power supply again.  Ifinally came to the conclusion that the 120mm fan in the back of the case about 2-3 inches below the power supply was actual exhausting so much air out the case that this 120mm fan was actually drawing air against the power supply's fans and causing a slightly negative flow of air (in the wrong direction) through the power supply.  I hope I have clearly described the situation.
What concerns me is that the negative flow results in very little air flowing within the power supply, which could  potentially result in the power supply overheating and failing resulting in a MoBo and processor frying.
To clarify again, the power supply is trying to push air out, but the 120mm fan is slightly stronger and is more than neutrallizing any flow through the power supply.
Just a little more info... I do have one 80mm fan in the front of the case sucking air into the case, blowing over the hard drive.
There is another spot for a second 80mm fan in the front, but since I'm not over-clocking and really not producing a lot of heat I didn't think I needed two fans in front.
The only other solution that I can think of is to somehow rig up a verister or sensor on the 120mm fan, but to cover all temperture combinations could result in something very complicated for something that shouldn't be that complicated.
Maybe someone has noticed the same problem and has a solution.
    Thanks.

When you see the specs on a cooling fan it says so many CFM. But really what it should be saying is how many CFM at a given speed and at a given pressure ratio (exit to inlet pressure ratio). For a given speed the relationship between flow rate and pressure ratio is on a negative slope. That is if you reduce pressure ratio, flow rate goes up and vice versa.
Using your example suppose I put in two intake fans that on spec each draws 10 CFM and one exhaust fan that does 15 CFM and lets assume that the case is so sealed that air can only enter and leave the case via the intake and exhaust holes. When you turn this system on both intake fans try to pressurise the case but as the case pressure goes up, so does the pressure ratio acrsss the fans. Recall the slope relationship. What happens is that the flow rate drops across the two intake fans. Similarly as the pressure inside the case goes up, it become a lot easier for the exhaust fan to do its job because its pressure ratio is dropping. So what does really happen in this situation? Well the overall system reaches an equilibrium condition where the two fans deliver just enough air that the exhaust fan takes out. You can also consider extreme cases where you have massive intake fans and a weak exhaust fan. In this extreme case you'd be better off by removing the weak exhaust fan because the pressure across it becomes so low that you would not need it. You can take the argument around and make the case for a powerful exhaust fan and obviate the need for an intake fan.
Then why do we need so many fans if all we need is one powerful exhust or intake fan? This happens because as air enters the case, it follows its least resistance path inside the case. This implies that you may end up with "dead air" areas in some regions of the case which won't be good for heat duild up. Now this does not mean that by a careful rearrangement of the components you would not be able to come up with a configuration that only uses one fan. To that you'd need to use computational flow techniques and mathematically model each component in terms of blockage and the amount of heat being put out. This is quite expensive to do so but this is how its done for the high power computers.

  • MSI GE60 2PL Cooling Question

    Hi there,
I just bought a MSI GE60 Apache-629 Laptop. I Never owned a MSI Laptop but I am Very Satisfied so Far. Even though it doesn't have the NVidia GTX 860m , like the Apache Pro, I can Still Run Battlefield 4 on Medium Spec in 1920x1080.
My Question is should I Press the Fan Button to Speed Up the Fan when Playing Battlefield 4 ?
It seemed like my Laptop was getting VERY HOT !
    Is this Normal ?

    Hello ericpatterson89,
If you don't mind the fan noise and the power consumption while you're playing BF4, just speed it up. The temperatures of the CPU & GPU are always hot when playing these types of 3D FPS games, no matter which model. Some models are just bigger and thicker so that you don't feel so much heat on the surface. But actually they are all very hot in those cores.
So the best and accurate way is to run "Dragon Gaming Center" to monitor the temperatures of the CPU & GPU. Its icon can be found on the system tray (right-bottom of the screen). Just double-click it to open its window and it will show you the temperatures of both CPU & GPU.
There's an EC firmware inside the laptop which will automatically increase/decrease the RPM of the fan or boost up/throttle down the GPU power consumption according to the heat generated. So if you always turn the fan in full speed during the game play, according to the principle of the NVIDIA GPU, it will run as fast as possible if needed until it's throttled by EC firmware. In my past experience, setting the fan in full-speed during the game play will get more time running fast and smooth than setting it automatic. That's why I am saying that it depends on the user's tolerance to the fan noise...

  • 9800 Pro & Quicksilver cooling questions . . .

I have a 9800 pro inside a Quicksilver with the Zalman FANLESS ZM80D-HP.
The optional fan for this heatsink does not fit inside the quicksilver.
    http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=135
Since the quicksilver already has a large fan facing the pci, agp and ram, do I still need a fan directly on the above heatsink? Seems like it would not be necessary?
My next choice would be the iceberg5 but why spend the extra, and the above heatsink looks kinda cool in the Quicksilver.

Since the quicksilver already has a large fan facing the pci, agp and ram, do I still need a fan directly on the above heatsink?
In theory, the design of the heatpipe should utilize the existing airflow.
BUT, the 9800 is a very hot GPU, and note #3 of Zalman's compatibility table recognizes this fact.
I've always been curious about the passive coolers on a 9800, but, between the bulk, and the majority of sources saying a fan isn't really optional, I never bothered to take the leap.
Kinda' like all the CPU upgrades for AGP graphics through the QS, they all have fans on the heatsink.
From what I've seen with the CPU's, and feel applies to the heatpipe, is the case fan does not provide a direct enough current of air to maximize cooling. An additional fan is needed to apply airflow specifically to the heatsink.
The case fan is more to keep enough air coming in so that the PSU fans don't have to create a suction/work harder to move air out

  • K8N Neo2 54G Platinum Northbridge cooler question

My northbridge cooler is slowly dying (can't say I'm happy with this motherboard at all), and I have to replace it. Does anyone know what voltage the northbridge cooler runs on? 5V or 12V?
    (It's the MS-7025 model).
    Thanks

I agree with syar2003 above. The Vantec showed above is the ticket. You can RMA but that gets you another MSI chipset fan and we already know that they are not up to the job (many failures posted here).
I have a K8N Neo4-F that the fan went bad. The down side is motherboard removal to pinch pins to remove fan assembly. The up side is the Vantec. Ball-Bearing and quiet and fits under my 6600GT card without modification. Looks good in there too.
While I was in there I upgraded my processor to the 4000+. Running cool and quiet now. Worth the effort.

Right! Now you heard it from someone else, msiguy (Told him so in another thread https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=110924.0).
Remember oc is a matter of luck, it depends on the individual sample.

  • CPU cooler that works with K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI motherboard

I have read that some say the Zalman interferes on this board with the 1, and 2 ram slots, is this true?  I'm using the 3500 Winchester CPU.
Does someone have a part number if the Zalman is;   a)  the best, and  b) clears properly.
Also I see everyone talking about Artic Silver 5.  What does the"5" mean?  I have Artic Silver that I have been using for about 2 years, but there iis no designation "5".  Do I need the new stuff?
    Thanks

I don’t know muck about artic silver, but I have a comment on the cpu-cooler question.
I recently bought a K8N SLI Platinum, which has an almost identical layout as the Neo4 Platinum. I use a Termalright XP 120 cooler which according to there webpage does not fit on this board. But I didn’t had much problem at all! It is tight with the first ram slot thaw, and with a memory just a few millimetres higher than mine it wouldn’t fit (I use TwinMOS PC3200).
Unfortunately, I don’t know if it’s a similar situation with the Zalman coolers, but I really like to recommend the XP120 (or even XP80) anyway. It keeps my cpu (althorn 3000+) at almost the same temp as the sounding system, during normal use. And since you are free to put any fan you like, you have a very good start making your system really quiet.

  • How Do I Get My Music On The Radio.

Hey there, looking for everyones oppinions
When your projects are final and ready, what are the nessary steps onto getting your music played on radio. A&R? other method?

Hey there, looking for everyones oppinions
    OK
When your projects are final and ready, what are the
nessary steps onto getting your music played on
    radio. A&R? other method?
    There are various ways:
1.A consulting firm which markets artists directly to radio and other media companies.Search for "Radio Consulting." These cost money, but are almost guaranteed to work.
2.A music selling service. These sell music and their broadcast rights to radio stations and TV.Some companies have music directors which screen new music, and if they like it you get on their database. Some cost money, some are free.
3.College radio stations. These will play your music,if they like it,and are free.Visit one and ask to talk to the music or program director.
4.A music publishing company. These are a little harder to get accepted in.Look for ones that specialize in "Indie" or independent music, and also film scores.
All of this requires a lot of footwork on YOUR part.Don't expect them to listen to your music and hand you over money on a silver plate. That only happens in wet dreams. Also, expect rejection, and don't take it personal. They sell a PRODUCT,and will treat your music as such.To them your musical opus is simply another product to be sold. That is THEIR JOB.
I know several people that work in these environments, and their most common complaint is that the artists they deal with are TOO EGOCENTRIC.
So,check your ego at the door, and you will go far.
Opon acceptance, do most radio stations pay you a

(licensing to the radio station or promo given to

No they do not pay you.Unless you are signed to a major label,or a major publishing company like BMG or ASCAP,or the like. This is too complicated to get into here,I suggest that if you REALLY want to know,go to a bookstore and get a book on the subject.
Also am looking for examples of simple basic radio
contracts between label & radio station.
Google is your best friend.Search away!!!

Rather like driving a car with a tent over your windshield.
In Illustrator you can toggle this highlighting off with a command in the View Menu. But I haven't found anything in InDesign's Menu that does the same thing.
So sorry for the newbie question, but can anyone clear this up?
    Very cool question, John!
I wouldn't have had the chance to find out that you can do this by opening a new document window with Window > Arrange > New Window, and seeing the effect of the changes applied to the highlighted text in one window, appear in the other window without the obscuring selection highlight. You can even set one window to display in the Preview mode and the other in Normal or Preview.

    COOL
    Question for all ...
My on-board LAN seems to have taken a s%*t!
I've tried diabling and re-enabling in Bios and I still get no lights.
Put in a crappy 3Com board that will work...
    Any ideas?
Should I send it back to MSI since its only been 8 mo. or so?
    Ideas?
Thanks and good to see all the "old" guys here!

    Ah I knew it...
    I was just checking.....whew.
Getting a little sleepy over here...send me some of the good-stuff to wake me up a bit.
Nah don't follow any of that guide BS...
Here's what I do in three easy steps:
    1. put bios on win98* boot disk
    2. restart comp choose minimal boot
    3. load flasher and flash
*the same probably goes for a winme boot disk if you get same otpions...I can't remember.
I never had any trouble with this method and it has held its own. (for at least two years now) I'm currently using winxp and NTFS.

  • Integrating a frequency domain signal

    Hi
I am trying to extract the response of a frequency dependent signal :
    1. First, I use the SignalFFT vi to get into the frequency domain.
    2. Then I plan to integrate the FFT signal around a certain frequency and take a ratio of that wrt to the integral over the entire frequency spectrum to get a measure of how strong the signal is around that frequency.
I am choosing a range of frequencies above because the physical phenomenon producing the time domain signal produces a certain lifetime width. I need a numerical integration VI that can do step 2 above. The numerical integration VI that I found in Labview (using ver. 7.1) integrates the whole signal, and there is no way to define limits between which the numerical integration should be carried out.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks.

    That a cool question!
This has to do with the sample rate, when you adquire the signal, you get set of samples, that hava a sample rate, and when you do an FFT on those samples, every sample corresponds to frecuency bin (kinda of frecuency samples). Example:
If you get 100 samples at 1kHz, you will get a 100 windows, this is 100 samples to represent 1kHz, however, only the half of the spectrum is valid, because of the Nyquist teorem, so this mean that from 0 to 49, you have a correct representation, from 50 to 99 you have a reflection of the spectrum. So in the first 50 "frequency samples" you have 0-500Hz

  • MSI z87 G43 OC GENIE ISSUE/Bios UPDATE

Hi Everyone, This is my First time posting to the forums.
Here Are my System Specs Before I post the question
    Motherboard: msi z87 g43
CPU: intel core i7 4770k (haswell)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Ram ddr3 clocked at 1333mhz, 16gb, using 4 4gb sticks.
    GPU: evga gtx 770 nvidia
PSU: Bronze certified psu at around 850 watt.
CPU COOLER: is a standard corsair single radiator water cooler
    QUESTION/PROBLEM:
Ive had this computer built for about a year (basically right when the gtx 770 released). I have no problems with the device and it works perfectly. The motherboard however is where my problems starts to arise. I tried my hand at overclocking but ended up with a blue screen after some stress testing and just set my values back to default. But since then I really havent tried anything new with it. However, I noticed OC genie and I thought hey maybe Ill try this out for a chance. So I boot up and go into the bios set up (all values are default) and press the oc genie. As soon as the screen flashed back up I get a black screen and can not post. The only way to actaully fix this is to reset my CMOS which luckily I know how to do. But the black screen displayed also had a number letter combo at the bottom. It displayed 9C at the bottom in white. But when I get a successfull boot into the bios right beofre the bios logo I get a black screen with A2. But the A2 appears in every boot. Now heres where things get funky. I have a logitech Camera I use primarily for skype. When I have the device plugged in before the computer is booted. When I try to boot I get the black screen with the 9C, but when I unplug and reboot, I get the A2 and I get into my OS.
Now I tried overclocking again at 46 multiplyer with a 1.2v but When I did I get text saying its not successfull and resets my bios info, (which is cool considering oc genie didnt do this it just corrupts my CMOS).
So you must all be asking what version of the bios I have and the answer is 1.0....
Now I know there is a 1.9 and even a 1.A version which came out this year in 2014
The problem with this however is I know the dangers of flashing my bios and it can really screw up my mobo as in brick the darn thing. But from what I read, Live update form msi does not work and I shouldnt use it. But Is flashing the bios via the bios set up where there is a section specifically for flashing safe to do? With the oc genie not working im scared to try flashing my bios via the bios setup if that makes any sense
To wrap it up, is it a problem with my mobo, do I need to update my bios to fix it? If yes then what is the safest way of doing it since ive never done a bios update before (but i get the concept put the up date on a FAT 32 load it from it in the bios set up option let it do its thing and boom ) .

The method above does NOT apply to your board. Either use MFlash (bios + ME option) or use the below:
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive (E7816IMS_1A0.rar.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows:  http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt90_mb.zip

  • Cooling Fan issue/Questions

Hello there I will try and explain this whole story as best as I can. First off, I know my way around computers, I am going to school for them. Asking for help is a last stretch for me... but I need to learn when to ask for help inorder to learn from my mistakes. This laptop is a HP Pavillion DV7. List of replacement parts for this laptop can be found here.I have done as much research as I can on the issue.  So let me explain my situation. As a gamer, I know I stress out my laptop a lot. at 2.2ghz, it doesnt do much, but its 8mb L3 cache allows me to play quite a lot, not to mention what I gather from sources, my processor itself determines it should turboboost itself to 3.1ghz when it is under a heavy load. ( If this information is not true, then I will have to look into those sources again ) I have to admit, I do leave my computer on. I administrate gameservers and Teamspeak servers quite often, and gain access to the computers using the internet from my house to help fix the problems. I know I am not suppose to, but I leave it on so that I have the convience of looking into issues first hand and help the community owners as quickly as possible. I feel this is why I am having the issue I am. On Monday morning, a regular morning to wake up, first thing I do is check computer for any messages. The top left hand side of the computer is hot. Normal, since this is where the processor is in the laptop. The bottom part however never truely is. It got slightly warm, enough for me to take a notice. I turned computer off to let it rest so no problems had occured. a nice 30-45 minute rest. Laptop became room tempature at touch so I proceeded to turn it on. Upon doing so, I got a message  The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.Continued operation is not recommended and may cause unpredictable behavior that could result in random shutdown, data loss or possible system damage. The system will shut down in 15 seconds. To prevent shutdown and continue operation, press the Enter key now.System Fan (90b) I restarted computer, got same message. Proceeded to turn off laptop, then made sure AC power cord and adapter were working fine and plugged in. ( My Adapter block is normally hot, I think this is due to me leaving laptop plugged in all the time and never turning it off.) I restart once more, then head into BIOS. I check that the System Configurations are correct, Fan is automatically turned on, and I check BIOS logs for start up. All came up clear except the past 3 times. They stated part 090-B came up an error. This surely was the fan not being recognizes, as the start up told me. I go searching in the internet for replacement fan. This is the fan I have pruchased [ Replacement Fan ] and the thermal paste I purchased with it [ Thermal Paste ]. I rechecked with friends who work in computer stores for a living and they told me this was the correct part. So I decided I would wait. Today, I was told of an issue with the server, I log in to check the problem, get the error message for the fan. No biggie. I fix the issue within 5 minutes. My laptop was not on long enough to get hot. I get a message for an update today. I figured, sure; not a huge process needer, It will be fine. I let it update, and restart because I know it will need to finish applying them on restart. This time... the fan error did not display. I let the update patch in all 36,000 files. I restart after. I check the BIOS logs, It said no errors. I restart another 2 times to make sure I am not missing the message. There is none.  Whether or not my idea is wrong, I will still replace the cooling fan. My question is... Since the BIOS is responsible for how the computer starts, could the update possibly be the reason the error message no longer occurs? with 36,000 files patched, they could have easily been a driver fix and or a BIOS patch. They also could have been a simple security fix, but I have no way or knowing. I know it was 14 updates, and 36,000 files patched.  Could this at all have effected the error I was getting? Again, whether or not it could be the solution, I wil lstill replace the fan.  I ask for future reference of this knowledge. Could this be a simple mistake in the matter? Should I take into consideration of the update as a fix for the fan? Did it matter at all? EDIT  It seems though the error is gone, my processor still seems to be getting hot. This image shhows no sign of the fan working http://i.imgur.com/N1UgmHb.png

Still waiting for someone with more experience then me to explain to me the situation...

  • General water cooling temp question....

So I've got a water cooling loop set up with both my video cards and my CPU... My CPU idles at 40c, and i haven't seen it go past 60c under full load. My 2 video cards run about the same 42c at idle, and 63c in fur mark under load... This is with my radiator fans at half speed. Got 4 120mm 133 CFM fans on it.
So my question is are these bad temps?
p.s. my loop goes CPU VID card 1 then VID card 2.

The temps look good and if the PC is rock stable with them don t worry about it.Over 80 Celsius may look bad ,but thats not your case.
The GPU should be able to do even 80 Celsius.

  • MSI P6N SLI Platinum Voltage regulator cooler size question

I have a question about MSI P6N SLI Platinum's Voltage regulator cooler. Is it the same size of K9N SLI Platinum? The reason I ask is I plan to use water cooling on it. But the only regulator  waterblock I can find is desgined for K9N SLI Platinum from aqua computer http://www.aqua-pcs.co.uk/index.asp?function=DISPLAYPRODUCT&productid=218. So can I use this one on P6N SLI?

I guess not... P6N is much thinner, if your K9N VR cooler is as thin, then it can fit in. But I guess not.
