NB100 Wireless WAN System-LED

If I press Fn+Wireless WAN Key, t he WAN SYSTEM LED is not visible. Is this quite usual? The
bluetooth sign shines red. Is it necessary that the WAN Key shines green if I will conect to my w-lan router?

Hi. New to the forum. Brought an NB 100 one week ago (Windows XP) .
Have had no problem for one week connecting wireless. I still have the orange light and wireless is showing as activated however it will not connect. All other computers connecting as usual. Any ideas? Nothing has changed.
Should I just take it back to the shop and get another one as I brought it specifically for travelling and working away?
Thanks.

  • X301 and Vodafone and AT&T Wireless WAN (HSPA) Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)

Ok, I (Lenovo) did it again.
System Update showed me this update: "Vodafone and AT&T Wireless WAN (HSPA) Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)".
As I'm using Vodafone and I had a AT&T driver, I decided to update.
The result is, that now the GPS doesn't work.
Yes, I'm in a place where the GPS signal is present (my house, with the previous driver I was able to get 6/7 satellites).
What happens? Lenovo TV GPS stays there trying to fix the satellites, but nothing happens. I can't recover the system to a previous state, as I updated Flash player too, and Windows only show me the possibility to roll back this update.
So, apart advicing everyone not to update, I kindky ask:
    - where can I found the previous driver? I searched the web without success...
    - why does Lenovo deploy driver which can cause problems (I just had one updating the BT driver last week! .msi installer problem, error 1935...)?
    Thanks to everyone

Ok, I found in the Net the drive 7uw706ww.zip, which is Version 6.1.4.2, while the updated version is 6.1.10.5 (7UW708WW).
I tried again the GPS, and it wasn't working.
Anyway, before downgrading, I tried to reinstall the new driver, downloading and installing the .exe instead going through System Update.
Result: now GPS is working (same place, same conditions, just 5 minutes later)!
Don't know where the difference is...

  • X201 Wireless WAN Status indicator is always on (this laptop has no 3G option)

Recently received my new laptop, X201, Win 7 Pro 32bits. Since I boot it up for the first time, I noticed this curious status LED with the antenna shape which was turned on constantly. Today poking at the technical manual I see it is the "Wireless WAN Status Indicator".
I bought this machine with no wireless WAN / 3G option. Also, Wireless WAN does not show up as an option when pressing Fn-F5. Definitely this machine has no Wireless WAN.
So why is this indicator lighted up all the time? burning battery... Anybody else seeing the same? Anyway I can turn this LED off for good?
    Tips welcome. Thanks

    Bump
looks like nobody has noticed this issue? wondering if anyone with an X201 *without* wireless-WAN could confirm what they see...

Have to setup a wireless WAN in VERY remote area for Video Surveillance in outdoor Park back to security center. I have access to current or will use Solar. 9 key Points (so far )to connect in large valley. Want suggestions on using CISCO 1400 Bridge to bring data back to central point(or suggest best equipment for this). Will it also work from point A to B to C to get data back as may need to go over a hill as well for atleast one point? No distances longer than 2 miles.

Can anyone try to advise me on Best Equipment for this Network...possibly Mesh systems may be better?

  • Do I need a Roaming Network or a Wireless Distribution System?

Hello - as the title says, I am confused about which type of network I should create.
    My specs: Macbook Pro
    Windows XP Toshiba Laptop
White UFO-shaped Airport Extreme Base Station
New White Square-shaped Airport Extreme Base Station
    1 USB HP Deskjet printer
1 Ministack USB hub/external hard drive
1 LaCie USB external hard drive
I am in the process of finishing my basement and will finally have an "office" to place all of my stuff. I want to be able to hook up the USB printer and USB external hard drives at the same time for wireless availability, so I bought the new AEBS. I am concerned about placing the AEBS in the basement and its impact on wireless signal strength to the upper floors of the house, so I thought I would connect the older UFO-shaped AEBS into the system to extend the wireless range.
I am confused, however, about whether to set up a "roaming network" or a "Wireless Distribution System". I am not sure of the particular benefits of either system given my situation so any help someone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
My house is fairly new, and has a data line system to each room, and I have a cable modem and router in the basement and can share the internet connection to the whole house in this manner. My UFO-shaped AEBS was hooked up to the internet connection via this method with an ethernet cable into the back of the AEBS on the main floor of the house. The USB printer was plugged into the UFO-shaped AEBS. This worked well. Again, now that the new AEBS will be in the basement, I am concerned about signal strength, and would like to use my old AEBS to help out.
I have looked at the Designing Airport Extreme 802.11n Networks pdf document and while it is very detailed about how to set up each of these networks, it does not seem to adequately (in my opinion) address why I would choose one setup over another. For example, should I continue to connect the old AEBS to the ethernet wall connection to get internet connectivity, or should the old AEBS receive its connection wirelessly?
    Thanks in advance.

I am confused, however, about whether to set up a "roaming network" or a "Wireless Distribution System".
A roaming network uses Ethernet to connect the base stations. Therefore they all transmit good quality wireless data signals. Physically adjacent base stations should be configured to use channels 3 or more apart to reduce interference with each other. Everything gets full bandwidth.
A WDS network connects the base stations via wireless. Therefore the remote and relay base stations can only transmit data with the same quality as they receive it wirelessly. So if a remote station receives a lousy wireless signal from the main base, all of the clients of that remote station will get a lousy data rate. Also each WDS link cuts the available bandwidth in half.
Since your house is already wired for Ethernet, I would use the "roaming network".

Is it possiblie to run an aironet 1300 device participating on a wireless distribution system ?
It's configured as autonomous AP. I have 3 other Ap's from linksys running a wds and want this cisco one to join them.

    Hi,
Yes 1300 can be configured as WDS.
Here is the config example section from the 1300 ap where you can find an example of WDS configuration:

  • Cisco Wireless Control System need wireless Lan Controller ?

Cisco Wireless Control System need wireless Lan Controller , for Rogue detection

    Hi Joao,
The WCS is used in conjuntion with the WLC (Wireless Lan Controller) for Rogue Detection. It is not a must for this function but more of an add-on :)
The Cisco WCS is an optional network component that works in conjunction with Cisco Aironet Lightweight Access Points, Cisco wireless LAN controllers and the Cisco Wireless Location Appliance.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6305/index.html
    Overview of WCS
The Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) is a Cisco Unified Wireless Network Solution management tool that adds to the capabilities of the web user interface and command line interface (CLI), moving from individual controllers to a network of controllers. WCS includes the same configuration, performance monitoring, security, fault management, and accounting options used at the controller level and adds a graphical view of multiple controllers and managed access points.
WCS runs on Windows 2003 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 4.0 and AS 4.0 servers. On both Windows and Linux, WCS can run as a normal application or as a service, which runs continuously and resumes running after a reboot.
The WCS user interface enables operators to control all permitted Cisco Unified Wireless Network Solution configuration, monitoring, and control functions through Internet Explorer 6.0 or later. Operator permissions are defined by the administrator using the WCS user interface Administration menu, which enables the administrator to manage user accounts and schedule periodic maintenance tasks.
WCS simplifies controller configuration and monitoring while reducing data entry errors with the Cisco Unified Wireless Network Controller autodiscovery algorithm. WCS uses the industry-standard SNMP protocol to communicate with the controllers.

  • Wireless Music System Issue in Windows 7

I've been using the wireless music system for a few years and love it. However, I have an issue with it in Windows 7. all the software installs fine and appears to be functioning correctly. I did notice that the updated software driver does give me a network not ready error.
The main issue I have been unable to solve is when starting the media server it shows it's running at the address of 27.0.0. not the address of the machine. With it running at this address the receiver never can find the server.
I haven't been able to configure the receiver as I get a error message saying there is a problem with the wirelss network. when i do plug in the receiver, it lists the name I named it under XP. I am able to ping the device from Windows 7 as well as two other XP machines so it has retained it's address. When I boot back into XP it connects fine. I don't think the issue is with the receiver since when I go back to XP everything works fine.
Does anyone have an idea how to make the media server run on the IP address of the computer itself rather than the local host address? I noticed also that in the properties for windows media player in the network section in Windows 7 it also shows that it is running on the same 27.0.0. address.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hate to think I might have to come up with something new.

hi, to get past this stage of the instalation you need to use a usb wired mouse, this means a mouse that has a wire and usb to plug into your mac.
the onscreen keyboard can be found if you click on the icon on the bottom left of the setup screen (looks similar to a wheelchair sgn)
a usb wireless mouse or keyboard will not work because the wireless drivers are not yet installed in windows. they will install along with all other drivers when you open the bootcamp drive (can be found in win7; "my computer"
in win 8; "this pc") and click on setup exe. this installs bootcamp on the windows side and installs all the drivers that you downloaded while originally running bootcamp assistant.

  • Cisco 1242AP and wireless distribution system

    Cisco AIR AG1242AP-E-K9
does the Cisco 1242 access point support WDS as in 'Wireless Distribution System'? (not wireless domain service). I'm trying to configure my 1242 as a wireless bridge to connect to an O2wireless box router but without success. The O2 router help files only refer to allowing connections using the Wireless Distribution System which I fear (as a newbie) might not be the same thing as allowing a wireless bridge device to connect. I'm a bit confused about this so thanks for any pointers.

Seen a few posts on other websites - regarding Netgear, Belkin wireless devices trying to connect using the WDS, no sucess stories :o(
Here is a Wikipedia link on the subject and vendors that support it:-

  • Multiple wireless speaker system?

    Greetings,
I own a retail store (1200 sq/ft) and would like to setup a wireless speaker system.  What I envision is the ability to stream (iTunes or Pandora, etc) from an iMac to multiple wireless speakers (4-6) throughout the store.  Questions I have;  Is this possible?  If so how is it configured, through Bluetooth, Airplay, Airport?  Any advice on good quality speakers that can accomplish this task is also greatly appreciated.  I am trying to take advantage of my Mac network of iMacs, iphone, ipad without going to a standard in-wall/ceiling receiver system.  Many thanks for the advice!!!

Ok cool so its doable and I was also reading about Airfoil for Pandora and the like.  Next question is about the speakers.  I have done quite a bit of searching but it does not appear that one can purchase Airplay ready 7.1 surround system, true?  Basically what I would like is to position 4-6 smaller bookshelf like speakers around the store.  What Im not interested in is one single standalone speaker.  I want the sound volume to be even throughout the store rather than a booming focal point.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

  • Can Wireless Control System Send Alarms As Traps to a trap receiver

Can the Cisco Wireless Control System be configured to send its alarms as SNMP traps to a specified trap receiver ? if so how is that capability configured ? is it thru Notification Receiver ?

Yes, it can. And yes through the Notification Reciever. Pity though, it can only send traps in regards to Guest Account Activity such as guest association and authentication.
Hopefully future versions of WCS will be more versatile in that regard.
    Cheers

  • Can I link an iPad to bluetooth speakers - for a wireless sound system

    Hi
Can I link an iPad to bluetooth speakers to have a wireless sound system?
    What bluetooth speakers are available?

Yes. Here's a link. Google shows a bunch. Beware though some are just bluetooth linking the left or right speaker and requires you to plug into the not-bluetooth-linked-speaker.

  • Wireless intercom system advice

Okay, my last hardware question...I promise!
I need a rugged, reliable, wireless intercom system to communicate with my camera operators. Will be operating mainly in theater environments. There will be 3 camera operators and a director doing live switching.
So pretty much I just need to communicate with my camera operators to tell them I'm about to switch to them (to keep their shots steady, in focus, etc.).
    Thanks again!
