NB200 - Freezes at arbitrary point during any OS install

Hi.
When I just got NB200 out of the box and started to boot first thing it did was hanged on XP boot screen before any options; after 15mins I reset it and it got to some step in XP install where it's installing programs; then it kept doing something with mouse cursor moveable again for >1hr, finally I turned it off and on and got into broken XP situation.
I use factory reset combo from manul (hold 0, boot) but it doesn't work so how do I factory reset it?
Now, when I try to install Win7 from flash drive at arbitrary point (sometimes before even showing first install screen on green looping progress animation, sometimes while populating partition list, sometimes while "expanding windows files", sometimes while "completing installation" after restart) it would stop doing anything. Mouse cursor is movable and even animation keeps looping but there's no HD activity, no high fan activity (so no high CPU load?), and if it "freezes" like that in Expanding files, USB stick stops blinking which it does when it's actually making progress,
Interesting that for example it spent 20min on 84% extracting files once; while during install where it made to "completing" it extracted files very quickly, so I suppose it's not an issue at particular point and it's just random.
How do I fix this?
Should I ship it to Toshiba for repairs/replacement (I am going on vacation so unlikely to be able to use store replacement in time).

Hello
About resetting to factory settings you can find all informations in the user manual.
That means if its not possible to use the recovery option from HDD you have to use the Toshiba recovery disk but I assume you didnt create it, is that right?
If not and you want back the factory settings you have to order a new recovery disk from Toshiba directly:

According your problem with Windows 7 I dont know what the reason is but maybe its a hardware malfunction because the XP installation didnt finish successful. So for me it sounds like that its not a software problem.
To be honest in your case I would go to the nearest authorized service provider. The technicians can check your notebook and determine if its a hardware or software problem.
I assume your notebook is still under warranty so the repair should be for free.
Good luck, buddy! :)

• IMac Freezes on blue screen during startup after installing itunes 9.2

I let iTunes update to 9.2 today on my 27" iMac quad and when it restarted itself it froze on startup at the blue screen. The blue screen switches between two different shades but never exits that loop. I CAN boot in safe mode (which is what i'm doing right now).
Thus far i've tried:
- reinstalling itunes
- resetting my pram
- uninstalling itunes
- removing itunes startup app
I still cannot boot normally. Help!

You might try booting from your install CD and running disk repair in Disk Utility.

• Tiger freezes when screensaver runs or any time during the work

Hello everyone!
After I've connected LaCie external hard-drive, Tiger freezes every time screensaver runs. Sometimes it happens at any point during the work without any reason. I can move the mouse (when screensaver is on, though, after I moved the mouse the screen would go blank). LaCie works great and I don't think the problem is in it.
Also, right before this started I'd installed the Mac OS X 10.4.6 update. May be that is the reason. I don't know. I did what is in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=487116
In particular, I re-installed Mac OS X 10.4.6 combo update - it won't work. I've done permissions repairment, disk repairment, etc. Disk didn't require any repairments.
I tried disconnecting LaCie it won't help as well. What else might be done before I re-install Mac OS X itself (which I really don't want to do).

Since you've restarted and hard reset, the next step is to restore it. Make sure you have it backed up via iTunes and then setup as new.

• How do I verify that I don't last any point during acquisition?

Hello,
I need to make a continuous data acqusition using NI PXIe 5162 card it's why I wonder if there is a property node in labview or a program that shows if I lost any point during the acqusition??
I really need the answer !! thank you
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hajar8,
When you start an acquisition, all the samples are stored into onboard memory in a circular buffer. You then use "niScope Fetch" to request the data from memory, and the samples are sent via DMA to the host and to your application. Since the buffer is a circular buffer, if you don't fetch the records fast enough (or the sample rate is too fast), then its possible for the acquisition to fill up the entire onboard memory, and then begin overwriting the old samples. No error is thrown when this occurs when using the PXIe-5162. Instead, when you attempt to fetch data that has been overwritten, the "niScope Fetch" VI will return the following error:
"Error -107411863 occurred at niScope Fetch....
Possible reason(s):
The requested data has been overwritten in memory so it is no longer available for fetching."
I hope this helps.

• Why would firefox be using so much memory that the application itself freezes to the point where I have to force the program to end?

For the past few days, I've been doing research for a presentation that I am doing for college. As I've been using Firefox, the program freezes to the point where I have to force the program to terminate. I have a computer with 8 gigs of ram and an i5 quad core processor running at 2.8 ghz. There are no viruses or spyware on the system, and there isn't anything else running. There are no addons applied to my browser, and no personas. There should be no memory issues to the point where an internet browser would freeze this badly.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Question (?) Mark, Blinking Folder, or Gray Screen at Startup
These are related but not identical issues. Their causes are outlined in Intel-based Mac- Startup sequence and error codes, symbols. Solutions may be found in:
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
Mac OS X- Gray screen appears during startup
In most cases the problems may be caused by one or more of these:
a. Problem with the computer's PRAM - See Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
b. Boot drive's directory has been corrupted - Repair with Disk Utility.
c. Critical system files are damaged or deleted - Reinstall OS X.
d. The disk drive is physically non-functional - Replace the hard drive.
Note that the information I have provided is what Apple recommends, If other users suggest different solutions than found here, then be sure what they recommend does not impact on your warranty, if any, or ability to get continuing Apple service.
Please don't start removing drives or changing cables unless you know what you are doing and have exhausted other non-invasive alternatives outlined here. If you perform any work yourself that is unapproved by Apple, then you will void any warranty you may have and lose all further Apple Support.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD. Simply boot from the Recovery HD to perform the above.
Reinstall Snow Leopard Without Erasing The drive
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing The Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

• 13 in macbook pro (early to mid 2011) : after the update, computer freezes with spinning wheel every 30 seconds first with safari and now with all the applications. I don't have any programs installed and still had good enough memory on the RAM.

After the update of my 13 in mac book pro (early to mid 2011) , it freezes every 30 seconds with the spinning wheel and now it just freezes. Ive never had this problem until I recently updated. Also, I just checked now for available update ( which there was one), the update would process till the last step and it shows it cannot be expanded? Now my computer wont even restart (just have a grey screen with a cursor). Can someone please tell me what the heck is going on with my computer?
I also checked the memory and it showed available memory was over 1.5 GB. I dont have any programms installed and do not have backup yet ( dont really need it anyways)
Problems: first with spinning wheel every 30 seconds and now whole computer just freezes when I restart, it only shows grey screen after the starting sound or it takes about 8 to 10 minutes to restart.
This ALL happened right after the update with google chrome crashing. I know my apple care plan expired so I cant even go to genius bar. Do you guys know how much it would cost to get it fixed ? Or any recommendations I can do to fix this?

Try a smc reset:

• IDVD 4 now freezes the entire computer during burning

Hello,
iDVD 4 now freezes my entire computer during burning somewhere around stage 3. I can't even force quit. This never happened before - it does so while burning a project that had been burned successfully many times in the past and also new projects. I did have a bad RAM problem weeks ago - which is fixed now. Tried fixing permissions and cleared out enough free space. This is wierd - it has been working for years.
Thanks very much,
NIck M.

Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.
• Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
• Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort: from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

While doing a non-iTunes upgrade to 8.02 my iPad froze on the apple screen. After hours of waiting I forced a power off. Froze in same place. Tried attaching to iTunes on PC from power off. Freezing in same place. Any ideas on how to get past this so that I can at least run a restore?

I Don't know that recovery mode would work, but did you try it?
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
IF that fails, have you considered erasing the device using Find my iPhone in iCloud.com? I'm not sure what good that would do either of the iPad continues to freeze, but if nothing else is working .....
