NB305 broken battery latch

A friends old NB305 netbook has a broken battery latch, I've noticed this problem on several other Toshiba laptops. The slide button pulled out from the plastic retaining clip and has gone how knows where. I actually have a spare bottom case from a computer no longer in use but it appears the only way to replace the latch or the bottom case is to totally disassemble the entire computer, it doesn't seem possible to simply remove the bottom case and the basic parts attached to it (hard drive, etc). Is this correct? Anyone have any ideas on a better way to do it? I have looked online and haven't seen much to help other than to rebuild the computer. If anyone can help me I would very much appreciate it. Many thanks,Don Williams

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Can't help you on the latch, beyond recommending, if I understood the issue properly, that you buy a new case bottom, which would have the battery compartment in it.
The 12" Powerbook does not have an internal battery, so when all power is removed, the internal clock resets.

  • G60-237 Laptop Has Funky Battery Latch! FIX or Replace?

Well I had a perfectly good G60 Laptop and, at 59 forgot I had all the specs on another drive I needed to finish installing drivers, I instead decided to pull screws out to get all the chip specs separately.
When I woke up from my AARP haze and I put them back ,the battery latch became sluggish. Even though it looks like the spring is still in and I can slide it close, it doesn't hold the battery very well.  The battery parts are good, not worn or broken at all.
Can I fix it?  Can I replace it?  Do I have to tear everything apart?  Should I continue to punish myself with whips and walk on broken glass because this was really dumb...?  Anyone been down this road before?

I have an HP G50 that had a very similar issue. The latch wouldn't hold the battery in at all. After looking over ther battery very closely, I could determine that it was ok, and that there were no missing pieces. I then turned my attention to the latching mechanism. If the G60 is anything like the G50, you should see 2 little latches inside the battery compartment. Makse sure that the plastic catches have not broken off. This was my problem and therefore I had to order a replacement latch and install it. While it was an easy fix, and my battery is now held securely in place, I did have to completely dismantle the entire laptop to get access to it. The other possible problem is that the spring or the little plastic tabs that hold the spring have broken. The replacement part that I purchased only cost me $7.45 after shipping on eBay, and it included the spring and sliding screws that hold the latch in place. Good luck!

  • How do I best replace the battery latch in a HP Probook 4510s?

How do I best replace the battery latch in a HP Probook 4510s? After letting it fall, I had to replace the battery latches.

    Hi:
Please review the notebook tour guide at the link below. See page 9 for the bottom components illustration.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01849861.pdf
There is a battery release latch on the bottom of the notebook. When you remove the battery there should be a part number on it on a white tag.  The part number would be arranged 6 digits a dash, and 3 digits (123456-001).
Then you can input the part number at the HP parts store at the link below.  You may need to change the country location at the top. I have it set for the United States.

  • Broken Case Latch

I've got a broken case latch on one of the Mac pros I recently inherited at work.
I need to get in there to swap out a hard drive but the latch has come away from the mechanism that locks in the hard drive bays.
Does anyone know of any alternative way of opening the case? Or if there's a simple of way of popping the side panel out despite the latch being broken.

If you look at one of your good mac pros, you'll see that the latch operates a lever that's all the way up front and you can push it with something through one of the vent holes on the front of the computer near the optical drives to operate it.

  • Potential broken battery?

I have an Ipad 2 and it ran out of battery, I then went to recharge it and it turned on instantly and then before the homescreen could load it did the loading spiral for shutdown. It now does the same over and over if you try and charge it. I then did a restart in recovery mode to see if it was a software issue and it never even restarted for the reseat just turned back on then shutdown again. This a broken battery?

It could be. I"d make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out.

  • Broken battery release latch

The battery release latch on my ibook no longer holds the battery in the computer. Turning the lock does not affect the latch bar. It slides in and out freely; prefering the in (disengaged) position.
I removed the bottom cover and carefully disected the plastic/metal latching mechanism.
I retained all the parts including the little cyndrical pin.
Even after repositioning the pin, the latch bar does not engage with rotating cam/thumb screw assembly.
Is there a replacement part available?
If not, anyone have an alternate solution?
    thanks in advance

  • NB305-105 - Battery empty after few days

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba NB305-105 (2 Gb Ram - 250 GB HDD) with Windows 7 (64) Ultimate. My battery (6 cells) has a long life about 6 hours but I don't manage why when switch-on the day after the PC the battery is discharged. I verify that PC is right switch-off and not in hibernate/stand-by but after some days the battery is complete empty.
Someone has had the same problems?
    Thank for any help.
    Regards

    Hey,
After few days the battery shouldnt be empty but it will lose a little bit power, thats normal behavior on all notebooks. Normally up to 5-10% is normal each night/day.
In your case I would check the BIOS. There you should find options like Wake up on LAN, Wake up on Keyboard and USB Sleep & Charge. Disable all these options because they are consuming power while notebook is turned off.
I did the same after this it lose just 2-4% so its very good! :)

  • Blackberry Torch Charger Port broken, battery drained?

My charging port is somewhat broken  on my blackberry torch (I have to put the charger at a certain angle for it to charge and readjust every few minutes). I wa sjust wondering if there is anything I can buy that would let me charge just the battery and not have to go through the usb port.
Also, I was able to fully charge my phone, and I turned it off for the night, but when I turned it back on, the battery was almost completely drained! Is my battery discharged? (Ive had my phone for about a year)

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
RIM provides zero front line support to end users, including warranty...all support starts with the carriers, authorized resellers, and authorized service centers, all who can escalate cases into RIM at no charge to the end user...the specific place to seek warranty support varies by region, but you should have received documentation, when you originally obtained your BB, as to what your warranty level is and how to seek support.
If your original service provider was also your original place of purchase, then I'm pretty sure they should still service your warranty for the hardware itself...but I'm not quite positive on that point...it seems logical, but they told you they will not help you...maybe you need to escalate with them beyond their front line folks and to someone in management who can properly evaluate your situation.

  • Satellite 5205-S505 - How to remove battery with damaged battery latch?

I try to set apart my notebook(satellite 5205-s505) today. But I found the release latch had been damaged somehow. What can I do?
my lcd serious damaged. Can I have method to shut down the lcd to save power (just use external moniter)?

This with battery is very good question. I believe you are the first one who asked this.
If you cannot remove it the only way is, I believe, to disassemble whole notebook and somehow make the battery free.
When you use external monitor you should use FN+F5 key combination and switch to external monitor only. Notebooks LCD will be OFF.
You can also check advanced display settings. Usually there you can also find settings to define where the desktop should be shown.
    Check it out!

  • Unhappy Mac Face and broken battery graphic

I bought an IPOD mini for my daughter's birthday. It worked for nine weeks then when it was charging, it blacked out and returned with a graphic of a mac with an unhappy face then switch to a grphic of a battery with a crack in it. Is it possible that the battery could have broken after nine weeks of use? She didn't even get to use it that much as she was working every day. I bought it from circut city but they couldn't do anything since my husband didn't buy that stupid insurance they sell.
Will Apple take back a defective ipod mini or is there something I can do for this. I tried everything in the manual including all resets, it just won't do anything.
    Help!

  • What to do for broken battery?

The battery to my notebook broke a couple months ago, I've been busy lately and also haven't been in that big of a need of it, but I finally got on here to ask.  I got my notebook less than a year ago, probably around 10 months ago, is there a warrenty or anything on these? And if there is do I call HP or just take it back to best buy? Thanks.

It doesn't work, I know when i'm not plugged it wont turn on or charge and the computer told me the battery failed and wasn't working.
OK. That is far more understandable than broken.
    If:
    1)  Your notebook is still in warranty (you can check that in the BIOS in the System information screen)
The standard warranty is one year from purchase date.
    2) The HP Support Assistant or HP Advisor has reported that your battery has failed and given you a Warranty reference number to use when contacting HP then it is unlikely that a replacement will cost you anything at all.

  • Broken lock latch

hello there. i have a broken latch mechanism. the top hooks work fine, however the bottom part of the latch mechanism is not working. looking down at the 2 slots everything seems to be fine. im not sure if it is magnet or not. i was told that i need a whole new bottom case?? which is gonna run me $200 or so. will this do the trick?
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/Apple-Macbook-Pro-A1260-2-4Ghz-Bottom-cases-Lock-latchW0QQitemZ260338597876QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

Since yesterday, I did a little more investigating, and found a link that could shed some light on this issue, as several people posted what sounded like some good suggestions:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suAPc7jp1I8
After carefully looking at my own latch, I think I may see what the problem could be, and you might be able to fix it yourself.
There are two tiny hooks on the display part of the latch, held in place by tiny springs. There are two cavities on the bottom part of the latch that have a magnet on the bottom and two silver latches which you can see through the slots. The silver catches are to the inside of the slots, and you can just see about 3/32" of them. There is a bevel to the outside, and if you push in the button, you can see these latches move back.
When you close the lid, the magnet at the bottom of the bottom latch pulls the hooks from the display part of the latch down. The hooks slide over the bevel in the bottom latch and catch.
You should be able to see the silver latches all the way across the slot. If you just see part of them, then the thin hooks may not be able to engage them properly.
There are a couple of possibilities, both addressed in the comments on the U-Tube video. One is that the mechanism has gotten gummed up and the lower latches aren't moving freely and returning to where they need to be. The other is that the latch assembly has gotten pushed in and is caught on the sheet metal, so that the latches do not fully fill the slots. The suggestion is that you might be able to make a tool from a paperclip and reach through the slots to maneuver the assembly back into position. A dental tool might also work.
I've never been inside one of these latches, but just looking at it from the outside, this is how I think it works and maybe could be fixed.
If you don't see the silver latches at all or the magnet is missing, then the latch is likely broken and would need to be replaced. I would think the one you linked would work (the cable is for the sleep light).
    Good luck!

  • Getting into my macbook with a broken battery locking screw?

The hard drive of my macbook is very faulty and requires replacing. However, the locking screw (the one you turn with a coin) that releases the battery, and thus allows access to it, is broken. It will turn, but no longer releases the battery, suggesting the mechanism that connected it to the battery is broken.
This is essential to any operation involving removing the top case as it is attached to the battery's housing. Therefore, I need a way to release the battery or to remove the top case without removing the battery; I am willing to risk damage as the macbook is completely useless with the present hard drive.
Do you know a course of action that can allow me to proceed?
p.s. as I'm out of warranty, involving apple in any of this is sadly out of the question.

This could be something that might be repaired (or at least evaluated) at an Apple Retail Store for free or maybe for a nominal charge. There are some Apple Retail Stores in Sheffield and Manchester.
