NB500: How to use the Recovery DVD without a DVD drive in the netbook?
Background:
I have a Netbook NB 500 which came with a Win7 Starter. I upgraded to Win8 but didn't like it as the screen resolution wsn't high enough to open Apps. As the system became slower and slower over time, I decided to reset the unit back to original settings using the Win8 function.
The progress on this process was extremely slow and after seven hours (about 60% done) I got a fright that the content of my HDD might be copied somewhere onto the web (NSA cloud? :) ) .
I switched the unit off and from there nothing would work anymore. I bought recovery software with WIN7 Starter from Toshiba Support as I couldn't find an ISO file for WIN7 starter, but it arrived on a DVD...
I do have:
+ NB 500
+ Toshiba Recovery DVD
+ Bootable USB stick (I created this)
+ Product Key for Win7 Starter
Question:
What files are necessary in order to install Win7 from scratch (move files from DVD to bootable USB stick)?
Will this procedure delete the old data from HDD or will it still take up space?
Regards
LS1-d
It is not simply as you think it is. As far as I know you cannot manipulate recovery data and work on your own bootable media.
Best and simplest way for you is to obtain somewhere external USB ODD and use it for recovery image installation. I have NB520 and I have bought external BD ODD and can use it for different actions like software installation for instance.
Im really wondering you didnt create recovery USB stick. It was my first step after I bought this machine. Product key that you have on Microsoft sticker is useless. You cannot use it for OS installation if you use own OS version and you dont need it if you use original recovery image.
After recovery image installation preinstalled Windows version will be properly activated.
> Will this procedure delete the old data from HDD or will it still take up space?
Yes. The whole HDD will be deleted so before you start with recovery image installation back-up all your important data.

Re: [SunONE-JATO] Re: How to use a tiled view without a model
I'm not sure what is different for you now. You still parse the string
and put it into a data structure. Before the data structure was a
vector, in JATO its just a model with a "hidden" data structure (a hash
map).
MVC only really comes into play when you talk about where your write
this code, and where the data structure is being stored. So really, JATO
takes care of half of the MVC'ness of it all (where the data is store).
You just decide where to be the code to populate the model.
Make sense?
Is there something different required of you in JATO in this scenario
that I am not grasping?

Hoskins, John D. wrote:
Thanks for the feedback.
The problem I was solving involved a single string, which contained
delimited subsets of information.
The string looked like
this:"time|analyst|description|time|analyst|description|..."
In ND, I parsed it apart into it's components (time vector, analyst vector,
description vector), populated the repeated.
With JATO, how would I make a model for something that doesn't have a
database component like this?
I'm pretty new to this MVC thing, so bear with me.

Subject: Re: [SunONE-JATO] Re: How to use a tiled view without a model
I guess the only thing "weird" (for lack of a better term) about what
you are doing is that your are populating the model on the "display
cycle". Typically, the cycle goes like this:
Request -> populate model -> update data store -> retrieve data to
populate model -> display data
some of the above steps are optional but hopefully you get the point I
am making.
So what you are doing is:
Request -> populate model/display data
If it works for you, then it's not necessarilly wrong. But I would
probably have my model populated before I forwarded to the target
(displaying view bean) or at a minimum, in the begin display event of
the view bean or the tiled view, but not during the iteration of the
tiled view.

Craig,
Thanks for the pointers. I ended up doing something else. I set the
models setSize() method to set the max size, and as the tiles fields
iterated, populated the value from some vectors I had the data in
already. Is this solution fraught with peril and will ultimately fail,
or should I try your way?

John,
Check out the docs for DefaultModel. There is an appendRow() method.
So get your tiledview's primary model (the tiledview's primary model
should be set to use an instance of DefaultModel), model.appendRow(),
then model.setValue("fieldname", value) for each value.
Rinse, repeat as needed.

Any pointers about where I can set the size of the tiled view? I tried
setMaxDisplayTiles() in the beginDisplay, but it won't get down and
generate the rows.

How to use X-Fi Effects without selecting SB as the default sound device?
How to use X-Fi Effects without selecting SB as the default sound device?Hello everyone,
That's my situation.
I have Sound Blaster X-Fi Go sound card and I am using SRS HD Audio Lab. SRS HD Audio Lab was selected as the default audio device and X-Fi effects (X-Fi CMSS-3d, Equalizer etc.) was working without any problem in Windows Xp. I have Windows 7 now and when i select SRS HD Audio Lab as the default device, Creative effects are not working, i must select "SB X-Fi Go!" to get them working but i can't use SRS HD Audio Lab in that case. SRS is also using SB X-Fi Go sound card as the output and volume adjustment on console launcher is working but something is disabling the effects. Any solutions to enable effects ?
Thanks. If the kernel modules for your sound card and webcam both support the index parameter (use modinfo to find out) then adding
options <name_of_preferred_card's_kernel_module> index=0
options <name_of_second_card's_kernel_module> index=1
to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf (or another modprobe conf file of your choice) should solve the problem. -
When I open a pdf file, after a few seconds, it hides the toolbar and I don't know how to get it back. I use multiple monitors and, without being able to grab the toolbar, I am unable to move the pdf file to a different monitor. How do I stop this?
Does Firefox switch to full screen if you press F11 ?
You can also try the F10 key to see if that brings up the menu bar.

How to use "find my phone" without using iCloud
How to use “find my phone” without using iCloud?
Previously, when I used my mobile me account I was not forced to use iCloud. Is there a way around this?Just ignore any prompts you get. Don't click the move to iCloud button and don't visit me.com/move. Just keep using mobileme as you have been.
The ONLY clickable button is "Open iCloud.com". I have NO other options. (Using Mac OS on a MacPro)
( somehow my reply was marked as a correct answer, I did not do this, and I can find a way to remove it.) -
I want to make a new account on iCloud instead of the old one without loosing my information in the old one ?How could I do that?
If you want to change to a new iCloud accout you'll have to delete the account, create a new account with the other ID, and migrate your data to the new account.
Before deleting the account, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to your camera roll or you will lose them. To do this, open the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On iPhone. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account. -

And another question if the data is already there in the child table if i try to load alone it must delete the old data in the child tablee and need to get load the new data and
How to do this ?
Arunraj Kumar
You can do that with an IF EXISTS condition
IF EXISTS (SELECT 1
FROM YourChildTable c
INNER JOIn @temptable t
ON c.Bkey1 = t.Bkey1
AND c.Bkey2 = t.Bkey2
DELETE t
FROM YourChildTable c
INNER JOIn @temptable t
ON c.Bkey1 = t.Bkey1
AND c.Bkey2 = t.Bkey2
INSERT INTO YourChildTable
where Bkey1,Bkey2 etc forms the business key of the table

How can I print a booklet without a white outline around the border? I'd like the front page to be covered entirely.
You either need a borderless printer, or you have to print on oversize paper and trim off the bleed.

How do I import Bookmarks from my old hard drive to the one in my new Mac? The old drive is installed in Bay 2 of my new Mac.
Hi
Home/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist is the file you want. Use a copy, just in case & do it with Safari quit. -
How can I export a project on an external drive in the latest version of iMovie?
Before the latest release of iMovie I easily managed to export a project on an external usb drive and re-import such project on a different Mac... In the latest iMovie version, however, I cannot see my drive any more..
So, how can I export a project on an external drive in the latest version of iMovie?
Thank you in advanceI'm not sure this is the best way, but you could create a new iMovie Library, move your project to that Library, then close the library. Then move the Library to your USB drive. Then, on the other Mac, in iMovie open the Library.

The photo print quality from my Mac to my Epson Artisan 810 is poor. I just purchased my iMac for my photography business in Jan. (this is my first Mac). When I first tried printing, I noticed the quality wasn't as good as I expected it to be. Then, I had to print 4-3.5x5s on a sheet, so I e-mailed the image to myself and opened it on my PC to print it (much easier to print that way on PC in Windows Photo Gallery - I think it's impossible to print that way in iPhoto). That's when I first noticed that when I take the same photo files (JPEGs) to my PC to print to the same printer without even uploading them to the PC, they print brighter and crisper from my PC.
I've already been on the phone and e-mail w/Applecare many times over this issue. We've tried creating a test user and printing from there, and we've tried reinstalling the OS. I've tried printing from iPhoto, ImageCapture, and Preview apps/utilities, all w/the same result - no comparison to the PC-printed versions (no enhancements have been performed on the PC).
I'm out of ideas, and so is Applecare. They say it's most likely a driver issue b/c the printer is outdated, and that the only solution is to buy a new printer. BUT it is a pain for me to purchase a new printer - it takes days of research due to the nature of my business and the fact that I need a printer that can print directly onto a disc. I love this printer and don't want to have to buy a new one if I don't have to.englishfreak2004 wrote:
Yes. I've checked for updates, and the driver I installed is the same as the one on Epson's website. I also spoke with Epson Customer Service, which was a dead end. Apple says the problem is due to an Epson driver issue (blaming Epson), but Epson says that with the older printers, it's actually Apple who creates the driver, so the problem is actually with Apple. Typical he-said, she-said...
Maybe not. Probably worth checking here:

My old computer has broken and I had not backed up my Itunes. I now have the hard drive from my old computer (windows 7) but cannot transfer the music. How can I transfer the music from my old hard drive to the new laptop (windows 8)?
Copy the entire iTunes folder from \Users\<User>\Music on the old drive into your music folder on the new computer.
Or see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
