  • NCS Appliance Installation Issue

    Hi Everyone
        Here is my situation:
My client has purchased the NCS appliance to manage WLC and other APs. However, after upgrading the IOS of WLC, the NCS appliance couldn't manage the WLC. So when we knew the NCS can directly upgrade to PI 1.3, we have done it successfully. That sounds greate and everything goes well. A few weeks ago, my client said that they couldn't use the PI. And then we found the drives(0 and 1) couldn't work and saw the bad status of them from appliance webios. So we claimed RMA from Cisco, then we downloaded the .ISO(NCS-APL-1.3.0.20-1-K9.iso) and burned into DVD(D9, 8.5G) to reinstall the OS. Then installing it, we got an error message as the below attachment. I have tried to burn the ISO into another DVD, it yet can't work. I made sure the the ISO is correct and entire, the process of buring DVD is also correct because I have used it to install the system on my PC. So is it necessary to find the old NCS appliance ISO file to burn and then upgrade to PI? If so, there is no more about physical iso link to donwload in Cisco website, just virtual ova files. Pls for you advices, thx in advance!

What OS did you deploy to the T450s?

  • ACS upgrade from 4.0.x to 4.1.x "Appliance upgrade in progress"

    Hello friends,
We are in the process of upgrading ACS 4.0 to 4.1 in a SE appliance 1113.
We followed very carefuly the steps, and upgraded de Appliance management ACS 4.1. The second upgrade (Software for appliance 4.1) keeps showing "Appliance upgrade in progress..." (near 2 hours by now). I know that it can stick even finishing, but it seems it has not finished because we can not log in with the GUI Administrator account like we did when upgrading the management software (previous step).
Is this normal? what can be missing?, I attach the console text output below (IP adds obscured).
Note the management upgrade went fine.
    Thanks.

    Appliance upgrade in progress...

Thanks Jagdeep, but the upgrade has not finished.
The documentation mentions (please read it carefully):
"IF YOU COMPLETE THE UPGRADE and the ACS console displays the message Appliance upgrade in progress, this indicates that the upgrade PROGRESS is hanging.
If this condition occurs, start an ACS console session and enter the command download [hostAddress], where hostAddress can be any IP address. This action releases the ACS console from the upgrade process."
What worries me is that it has not finished.
As I said in my post, we can not log in :( (the GUI gets blocked during the upgrade).
I appreciate the help. Many Thanks.

  • Cisco Prime NCS appliance & license

    Hi all,
I'm looking for getting a Cisco prime NCS appliance (PRIME-NCS-APL-K9). I'm a little bit confused regarding to the license scheme:
    1. Does the appliance has any license coming with it or we need to order the license separately?
    2. If I have an WLC 5508 (license support 12 APs) & 12 3500 APs, then number of devices counted will be 1 (WLC) or 12 (APs) or 13 (WLC + APs) ?
    Thanks for the help,

Cisco Prime Infrastructure for the  first time you may access the lifecycle and assurance features using the  built-in evaluation license that is available by default. The default evaluation  license is valid for 60 days for 100 devices and 150 interfaces. You will need  to purchase the base license and the corresponding feature license before the  evaluation license expires. Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 can be ordered using  the standard Cisco® ordering tools at http://www.cisco.com/go/ordering. More information about getting the  license files can be found in the Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Ordering and  Licensing Guide

  • ACS Appliance Upgrade

I obtained the 3.3 release from Cisco. I'm currently running v3.2. When I go to System Configuration -> Appliance Upgrade Status -> Download -> Connect -> Download Now, it returns "No Distribution in Appliance". I can see the 3.3.3.11 in the software install table. but it returns the error above when trying to transfer the file. I'm running Apache / Windows XP SP2. Anyone seen this before?

    Hi,
Without Distribution server, normally you need to load the new image into the current ACS appliance itself before execute the upgrade process. The new image can be transferred via serial or ACS web-based 'system upgrade' option.
If I am not mistaken, the error you're getting was due to unavailability of distribution server.
If you stuck with the image transfer, try to use CLI/console mode.
Typicall upgrade method has 3 steps:
    1. Load new image (download from Cisco or using CD) onto a distribution server.
    2. Load the upgrade image onto the Cisco Secure ACS Appliance from the distribution server. Do it either from within the HTML interface, or from the serial console. The Cisco Secure ACS Appliance will verify the transferred files to ensure that they have not been corrupted.
    3. Apply the Cisco Secure ACS Appliance system upgrade. You can do this either from within the HTML interface, or from the serial console.
Refer to the following url for complete upgrade processes & options:

  • WLC, WCS. Location Appliance upgrade order

    Folks -
I am about to upgrade my system from 4.1 code to 4.2 code. I am wondering if it's possible to have the WCS and 2700 Location Appliance upgraded to 4.2 d-cubed revs first while still running Concannon WLC code 4.1.185? I am hoping to be able to upgrade WCS/2700 several days before doing all of my controllers.
So in summary, will the following combo work? WCS-4.2.97, 2700-3.1.38.0, WLCs-4.1.185.

    Hi Charles,
Yes, this would be the supported method :)
Upgrading to a New Software Release
The Cisco WCS release must be the same or more recent than the controller software release. **Upgrade the Cisco WCS first to prevent any unexpected problems. Cisco WCS supports database upgrades only from the following official Cisco WCS releases:

  • NCS Appliance Ver 1.1.1.24 VM High availability disk options

       Hello,
I currently am running an NCS appliance running version 1.1.1.24.  I am looking to set up a VM server as a redundant High Availability backup server. Per the config guides the VM server needs to be set up with identical physical specifications as the appliance. That means I will need to set a vm up with the following specs:
    CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon Processor (2.4-GHz 12-MB Cache)
    •Memory: 16-GB (1×2-GB, 2Rx8) PC3-10600 CL9 ECC DDR3
    •Network Interface Cards: 2 x 10/100/1000 Gigabit
The config guide for the VM recommends that I start with a minimum 400Gb disk space. Does anyone have experience deploying a VM as a backup for an  appliance?  Does this sound correct?

  • Rsync on NCS appliance

    Hello
we used to run WCS as a software application on a Linux platform and saved all our daily Client Session reports on the disk and then used rsync to grab the details and process them off line.
We have recently bought an NCS appliance and do not seem to be able to get rsync to work and at the moment are using FTP to grab each individual file.
Is there a way to use rsync on an NCS appliance that anyone knows of?
    thanks

    Change the state of logging..
You will probably have to apply and restart the TC to get it to start logging at debug level.
But this is already telling you something.

Your login lasted 6min.. that is not right, unless you deliberately disconnected..
Although the TC hasn't given any indication of a drop it is telling you it is redoing the login.. for no good reason.
The drop in WAN particularly suggests something is going wrong.
Anyhow it gives you indication all is not well.
I would suggest you use another router and try using the TC bridged.
Or use the TC totally off the network with a separate ethernet connection to the computer you are copying files from.
Turn off ipv6 in the computer as that is also doing you no good.

  • Teaming or Port-channel support on NCS appliance

Hi, we have purchased one NCS PRIME-NCS-APL-K9 appliance. We are looking at connecting this box to two more swicthes configured in HSRP for the VLAN on which this box will be place. Can i configure active/stand-by teaming of both the ethernet ports available on this box.
If its possible, can you share with the relevant link on the Cisco website for the same.
    Thanks in advance!

Have you gotten an answer to this question from any other source?  Trying to find the same answer for a client.

  • ACS Appliance Upgrade path

I am seeing patches and CSUpdate files with the same release date. My current version is Acs-4.2.0.124.9-CSUpdate fix Base image 4.2.0.107, Appliance Management Software 4.2.0.124,
Question is which patch do I apply, the Cumulative, the CSUpdate, or both. Do I need to apply them one after the other, or is the .12 patch a rollup that includes the fixes in the previous versions, 10 and 11.
One other thing, other than physically going to the colo and reading it off the server itself, where can I find the serial number of the unit.

Appliance serial number cannot be viewed via GUI or serial.
For upgrading ACS always apply most recent patch available and it covers all fix till date.
First apply csupdate and then apply patch.
Please post ACS related under head AAA.

    3. the repository is fine
Any ideas would be appriciated .
    Thanks ,

    Hi,
In case anyone encountered the same problem, here is how you solve it:
1- Login into shell by typing "shell command" from NCS enable mode.
2- Copy the installation zip file to local disk directory:
              cp /source-path/name/installation-file-name.zip /localdisk
3- Browse to localdisk directory which exists in the root directory and unzip the zip installation file:
              [LMS/root-ade localdisk]# unzip installation-file-name.zip
4- Exit shell by typing "Exit"
5- At this step, if you type the "dir" command, the installation file "NCS-upgrade-bundle-1.1.1.24.tar.gz"  should appear.
6- In "conf t" mode, create a new repository
         repository myrepo
              url disk:/
    7- application upgrade NCS-upgrade-bundle-1.1.1.24.tar.gz myrepo
Please rate if you find helpful.
    Thanks.

  • NCS License upgrade

After creating your license file how do you copy it to the NCS so you can load it in.
Sent from Cisco Technical Support Android App

If your going from WCS to NCS you need to purchase a migration license. Then you would do an export of the license from WCS and go on the Cisco license portal to get a new license for NCS. This was only valid for WCS to NCS 1.0. WCS to NCS 1.1 and PI 1.2 you would purchase license that you already had for WCS. Part if the migration also was to export the data from WCS.
Now if you just wanted to backup your WCS or NCS license you would just export them. You can't export WCS and import it to NCS if you didn't purchase the migration.

I have done the upload of the XML File from our WCS 7.0 installation to get the License File. But on the NCS 1.1 installation the following License is needed first (Cisco Prime Network Control System 1.1 Config Guide):
NoteBefore adding the licenses that are migrated from your WCS installation, apply the L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9 license. The licenses migrated from WCS are generated as “ADD” licenses, and you cannot apply them unless you apply the L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9 license.
L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9 is the Product Number to do the upgrade from WCS 7.0 to NCS 1.0, R-WCS-PI11-M-K9 is the product number to dothe upgrade from WCS 7.0 to NCS/PI 1.1.
If I try to install just the License File I get from Cisco using the XML file from our WCS 7.0 installation, I get the error "Unable to add any license without an NCS (L-NCS-1.0-K9) license.".
But how do a get this license if I ordered R-W-PI12-M-K9 (WCS 7.0 to PI1.2 Upgrade License)? What is the step to get the right License?
Many thanks in advance for any help on that issue.
    Best regards,
    Hans

    Hello Joe,
no. The information in the deployment Guide (the link i proveded before) is wrong.
You still need to follow the upgrade path WCS 7.0 -> NCS 1.1 (here you have to use for example 1.1.1.24, because 1.1.2.12 cannot be upgraded to PI 1.2), then you can upgrade NCS 1.1 to PI 1.2 (if you upgraded the WCS to NCS 1.1.1.24 you need to install a patch ncs_patch-1.1.1.24-upgrade-12.gz, for other 1.1 releases you need a different patch).
The major problem was the licensing. Because with the order of the Upgrade Licenses from WCS 7.0 to PI 1.2 I got "normal licenses", for PI 1.2, a Base License and Lifecycle Licenses (the number of Lifecycle Licenses matches the number from the order).
Because we ordered the WCS 7.0 to PI 1.2 Upgrade Licenses I also ordered the NCS Appliance with the PI 1.2 (before I thought a direct upgrade from WCS 7.0 to PI 1.2 should be possibel, why not, if you can order the licenses with the description Upgrade License WCS 7.0 to PI 1.2 :-)). So I had to downgrade the NCS Appliance to NCS 1.1. After the downgrade the NCS Appliance came up without any licenses. So the major porblem was that I could not use the PI 1.2 licenses (they are not installable on NCS 1.1). So I got a demo/temporary license from Cisco for NCS 1.1 to do just the migration. After the final upgrade to PI 1.2 I installed the base and the lifecycle licenses and now everything is fine.
    Best regards,
    Hans

  • Upgrade Prime NCS

I have a Prime NCS appliance running 1.0.2.29 and I need to upgrade it to 1.1.0.58. I have downloaded the code from the Cisco site but I need to know how to upgrade the NCS.

Use the following command to upgrade  from NCS 1.0 to NCS 1.1.0.58:
    # application upgrade  NCS-upgrade-bundle-1.1.0.58.tar.gz wcs-ftp-repo
In the preceding command,  NCS-upgrade-bundle-1.1.0.58.tar.gz is the upgrade bundle file, which is  available for download.
The repository used in the example, wcs-ftp-repo,  can be any valid repository.
