NDPS printer in OES Linux

I setup a lab with OES on SLES9 and setup a iPrint printer and it works
fine but how do I get it to show up when I try to add it from a
workstation with the Novell client and I select Add Printers >NDPS
Printers > NDPS Controlled Printers > Browse the tree but no printers
show up.
I can get add it through the maptool but I hoping to use NDPS first and
then migrate the users to iprint later.
Any help would be great.

  • OES Linux, Print Solutions

    Hello all,
I am currently using Netware 6.5 SP5(OES Netware SP2), and wandering what
print solutions are available for the OES Linux platform. Specifically, is
NPDS available on OES Linux? If so is it the primary solution or is there
    a different solution?
A direction to documentation would be more helpful. Any assistance is
    appreciated.
    Regards,
    Matt Rigor

    Matt,
NDPS isn't really state of the art on NW6.5.
iPrint is, as well on Netware as on OES Linux. Check the manuals.

  • How do I use a cups printer on a linux machine from mountain lion

I have always used a linux cups printer on my network from my iMac. You could even browse the printer when looking for it. Worked fine.
Now in the updated Mountain Lion (10.8.2) is cannot see the remote printer anymore.
If I create the printer using cups through the web interface on my iMac, which is conected to the linux server, I can create teh printer, and print a test page on this printer on the linux server! Great.
But I cannot pick the printer from a list from any application on my Mac. It is as if it does not exist (but I can print a testpage though ...).
This a a real bad change in Mountain Lion. I consider to go back to Lion (10.7).
Isn't there any way to get this working or do I realy need to downgrade to 10.7
    Thanks for any hints!

    Hi VikingOSX and Grant Bennet-Alder.
Thanks for the replies, but unfortunately, they do not work.
The solutions you suggest are all OK for 10.7.x (and I have used them before), but these steps do nothing in 10.8.2. No difference at all.
I have also tried various other suggestions I found on the web and in this forum, such as:
    cupsctl BrowseRemoteProtocols=cups
    cupsctl BrowseProtocols='"cups dnssd"'
They all seems to work (and I needed them before in 10.7.x), but they don't seem to help any more in 10.8.2
To illustrate the problem, I have tested the following 4 cases (in this particular order) on iMac 10.8.2 through CUPS web browser leding to teh following (copied text from CUPS web interface):
    Step 1:
    Description:          EPSONserver
    Location:          server
    Driver:                    Local Raw Printer (grayscale)
    Connection:          http://192.168.1.94:631/printers/R285
    Defaults:          job-sheets=none, none media=unknown
    Jobs
▼ ID ▼          Name          User          Size          Pages          State          Control
    EPSONserver-23           Unknown           Withheld           1k           1            processing since Sat Oct 6 14:59:57 2012 "Printing page 1, 85%"
    Result step 1:
Test page: via CUPS web browser, OK. works just fine, full color and everything looks just fine
Printer in printer list: No, installed printer not available in OSX.
Can print from application: No, printer not in printer list. Cannot select printer.
    Step 2:
    Description:          EPSONserver
    Location:          server
Driver:                    EPSON SP R285 Series (color, 2-sided printing)
    Connection:          http://192.168.1.94:631/printers/R285
    Defaults:          job-sheets=none, none media=na_letter_8.5x11in sides=one-sided
    Jobs
▼ ID ▼          Name          User          Size          Pages          State          Control
EPSONserver-24           Unknown           Withheld           1k           Unknown            stopped "Filter failed"
    Result step 2:
Test page: via CUPS web browser: NO. "Filter failed"
    Printer in printer list: YES
Can print from application: NO, "Filter failed".
    Step 3:
    Description:          EPSONserver
    Location:          server
Driver:          Generic PostScript Printer (color, 2-sided printing)
    Connection:          http://192.168.1.94:631/printers/R285
    Defaults:          job-sheets=none, none media=na_letter_8.5x11in sides=one-sided Jobs
    Result step 3:
Test page: via CUPS web browser: low resolution/bad quality, black and white test page
Printer in printer list: YES, it remained in printer list when changed from step 2 to step 3.
Can print from application: Yes, but bad quality, not useful at all.
Step 4 = change settings back to step 1 :
    Description:          EPSONserver
    Location:          server
    Driver:                    Local Raw Printer (grayscale)
    Connection:          http://192.168.1.94:631/printers/R285
    Defaults:          job-sheets=none, none media=unknown
    Result step 4:
Test page: via CUPS web browser: OK. works just fine, full color and everything looks just fine
Printer in printer list: it disappeared from the printer list at the moment the changes back from step 3 to step 1 were activated.
Can print from application: No, printer not in printer list. Cannot select printer.
    Overall conclusion:
The printer appears in the printer list only when it is a postscript printer or using manufacturer drivers (i.e epson drivers). It does NOT appear when using a RAW printer (but works fine printing test pages through the CUPS web interface).
10.8.2. seems to have a serious bug.
Any help? Or is downgrading to 10.7 my only solution?
    THX for reading!

  • Print command from linux PC on to Windows Environment

    Hi Experts,
We have SAP on Windows and the network printer is also on Windows, the PC with Linux is integrated with network printer i.e when the print command from Linux is given the output is available from the printer (Windows). But when the print command is given through SAP there is no output from Printer (Windows).
When same user logs into Windows the printer command is successful.

    hi hari,
Printing SAP documents using Linux client is a little bit tricky if you want to get good printing result just as when you print from your Windows client.
If you want to use G printing method (on Linux client), you can't use SAPWIN on device type since SAPWIN is relying printing method. You must use exact printer driver. For example when you're using Dot Matrix printer Epson LX300+, you can use EPESCP2
I am using different method to cheat this and it's completely work.

When i run my application on Debian Linux direct print doesn't work, so i export to PDF and print that file using a linux lp command. the report is printed, but my barcode doesn't print.
    I use Java JRE 6.0.21
Does anyone kwno how i can print directly using Debian or how i can print an exported PDF with barcode
    thanks

If I Open the PDF i in windows i can see the barcode.
I already did do some research and in every forum I find the same when you export to  PDF and print it on Linux, no barcode is printed.
But I don't want to export to PDF, I want to print my report directly. This works using SuSe but not using Debian.
When I have a solution for that, It not only saves me time printing te report but also unnesecary converston and disk i/o

  • NDPS printer push via zfd3.2 not successful

    -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
    Hash: SHA1
    Hi all,
~ I need expert advise here.
    Steps:
    1. Install NW6.0 + with or without SP + ZFD3.2 SP3
    2. Use NWAdmin32:
~ - create NDPS broker and manager - loaded them via console
~ - created NDPS queue to a printer agent (via object creation)
~ - added builin drivers into the queue, for W2K.
    2. Use C1 to create a User Policy Package
~ - associate to a user in the same container
~ - configured and activated Event upon login to install the NDPS
    printer + toggle default
    3. Login as a the specified user from a W2K.
    Results:
    1. Observed that drivers were added in Event Viewer/Log of W2K.
    2. Printer icon seen in printer folder/control panel of W2K.
    3. R-click properties --> error message says drivers not installed,
    prompting me to install drivers.
The NDPS pushed down is not able to be used for printing!
    Additional info:
    1. NDS and Bindery queue pushed down suffered from "driver is not
digitally signed", preventing me from logging in after authenticating
    with NDS!
    2. ZFD 2 is OK for NDS and Bindery queues, though the absence of
    NDPS(expected)
Is there anything amiss with the deployment?
    Thanks and regards,

  • Airport Print Serving and Linux

I have a small ethernet wired network with three macs and one PC running Ubuntu linux. The printer for the network is hanging off an Airport-Express in my network closet. All the macs print fine but I need to be able to print from the linux box as well. As such, I need to know what protocol that apple uses to support the print server function. Or, I need some advice on setting it up with an SMB protocol. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

  • Oce, Print server/Qserver and NDPS Printer agents

We have an Oce TDS600 (the controller for an Oce 9600 plotter and a large format scanner). We tried a long time ago to set it up as a NDPS printer but it never worked right. We then went to the tried and true queue based printing (printer, print server and queue) and things were cooking along well until we upgraded the server hosting all of this from NW 5.1 to NW 6.5. Two of the three printers being serviced through "qserver mode" would not print. The main printer we use, the Oce was one of these (the other was an HP 2800CP large format color inkjet plotter). the printer that kept working was a Xerox DocuColor 3535.
The only clues we had were that the print server was listed as being down. We tied recreating the printers, print servers and queues, no joy. After a day of panic, the only thing that got it working was to set up NDPS printer agents and have them service the queues through LPR. This broke the log jamb and allowed us to get the back log of print jobs in the queues.
So, what did I mess up? What about NW 6.5 doesn't like legacy printing? We still cant print directly through the NDPS Printer agents, but we can print through the queues. There are LPR communication problems between the PA and the TDS600 controller. I couldn't find anything on the naming for the LPR printer for this model of Oce Printer (the external controller is not an EFI fiery) so I left it at the default of "PASSTHROUGH".
    Any clues?

    Daniel,
    > So, what did I mess up? What about NW 6.5 doesn't like legacy printing? We still cant print directly

    >
Well, PASSTHROUGH is virtually always wrong. The following TID gives the correct name to use for a
    number of printers:
    http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/se...?/10080373.htm
If your printer is not listed, then check the printer documentation. While many printers do not include
instructions on how to use the printer from Novell's NDPS or iPrint, they generally include instructions
on how to access the printer from Unix machines or from Windows machines using LPR. In those
instructions or sample configuration files, you generally find the correct name to use in the LPR
    configuration.

Your only option (as far as I am aware--and if I understand you correctly) is to go with OES 2 SP 3, follow TID 7006450, and that is about it. The information is coming from the leases file itself. Unfortunately, you can't get 100% of what you were used to on NetWare on OES. Many things have been ported over, but some things have not.

The PIXMA MG2520 only has a USB interface, and use of the printer with a Linux operating system is not supported; the printer was designed to be used with computers running Windows or Mac operating systems.

I am confused with your comments. If you have a user running Windows XP
with the 4.91 windows client, he will have a login popup. The Login window
will ask for the username and password. If you hit the advanced button, it
will show you the tree, context, and server fields. Currently you will
have your tree, context and server from your previous login populated. If
you want to log into the OES Linux server, you can change the server field
to point to the OES Linux server's IP or server name. There is nothing
different when accessing the NSS volumes on a OES Linux from a windows
    workstation.

  • HP LaserJet P1102W - no print output in Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon Desktop

I've just done a default install of Linux Mint 17.1 - as feared, no print output.
I'm guessing I need to install a driver - but I couldn't find anything easily on HP site, only Windows/Mac OS stuff. Are HP printers generally linux friendly? Where can I download drivers if they are? More over, I'm a total linux newbie, so any drivers need to be easily installed! I'm not currently familiar with Terminal windows and line commands!
My printer does have wireless enabled, but I have it connected via direct USB also.
Linux Mint did offer to run a diagnostic tool/debugging tool which gave a great deal of what means nothing to me. Debug output is below if it is helpful, but hoping a simple driver install will cure all ...
    Debug Output:
