NDS vs. Netweaver Developer Workplace
Hi Netweaver Gurus,
could you tell me what is the different between Netweaver Developer Studio and Netweaver Developer Workplace?
thanks for the response.
regards,
Yunaidy
Hi Yunaidy,
The NWDS is the Java IDE solely, based on Eclipse. The DW is the combination of a local WAS Java plus an NWDS. See http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/de/b3/304f4506e4684782f5d9c39451c3e9/frameset.htm
Hope it helps

SAP NetWeaver Developer Workplace & SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio
Hi All
1. What is the difference between SAP NetWeaver Developer Workplace & SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio. Which area JDI (Java Developer Infrastructure) fall in.
2. Is SAP NetWeaver Developer Workplace & SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio
are tool for Enterprise Portal development/customizing Only or can you use also use to customize XI/BW/SRM etc..applications.
3. Is SAP NetWeaver Developer Workplace & SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio are replacement of old ABAP programming
Thanks everyone.Julio,
To answer your third question, No, NetWeaver Developer Studio (NDS) isn't to replace ABAP or ABAP workbench. NDS helps in creating Java based applications to compliment with the ABAP programs and enable them accessible via the Enterprise Portal. ABAP would stay to be the primary development language for SAP systems. The newest version of NetWeaver software also come with an option of ABAP stack where in you can develop web based applications (accessible via the portal) using ABAP

Problems installing Netweaver Developer Workplace 2004
Dear Netweaver experts,
I have severe problems installing Netweaver Developer Workplace 2004 on windows XP.
I used sapinst for installing the Java sytem (Menue Java System->Oracle->Custom Installation).
After running through 34 of the 35 phases during which the sapinst tries to start the freshly installed J2EE engine I got the error :
CJSlibModule::writeError_impl() CJS-20057 Starting J2EE Engine J00 of SAP system J2E failed: after 84 s the state of the engine changed from "Starting" to "Stopped".
and changed my memory setting using the configtool.
Afterwards I tried to start the server in my MMC and it seemed to be running.
INFO
Execution of the command "D:\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\exe/startsap.exe 'name=J2E' 'nr=00' 'SAPDIAHOST=K-0017553'" finished with return code 0. Output: STARTSAP continues...
But when I had a closer look at the Process table at the MMC I saw that the server0 wasn't running
(Server 0 stopped Exit Code -2).
Now I don't know how to proceed.
Does someone of you know how I could get my J2EE server running ?

Netweaver developer workplace and Infrastructure
Hi all,
Can anyone please explain the difference between Netweaver developer workplace and Netweaver developer Infrastructure?
Thanks in advance,
AnushreeHi Anushree,
Netweaver Developer Workplace is the combination of a local WAS Java plus an NWDS. The NWDS is the Java IDE solely, based on Eclipse.
See http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/de/b3/304f4506e4684782f5d9c39451c3e9/frameset.htm
NWDI is Netweaver Development Infrastructure.
NWDI provides an infrastructure to develop Java applications on netweaver platform and is responsible for versioning, building and lifecycle management of these applications developed.
It has mainly three components :
DTR(Design time repository) : for versioning of any file altered.
CBS(Component build service) : for building application in central build environment.
CMS(change management service):to transport and setup logical landscape.
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/44/312b1a8bea3ec8e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm
NWDS is netweaver Development Studio.
NWDS is just a development environment with all robust development tools.
It can run j2ee,j2se and sap applications also.
It is an interface to access NWDI services and applications.

SAP Netweaver Developer Workplace - License
Hi,
I have installed a SAP Netweaver Developer Workplace on my laptop with MaxDB and I need a license key.
Using my company SAP marketplace, I can only get key for Oracle. How can I ask for a key for MaxDB and the Dev. Workplace ? I think I must have MaxDB as a valid database in our marketplace but I don't know how to ask SAP for it.
Thanks for your answer,

How Do I Apply Maintenance To A NetWeaver Developer Workplace Instance?
I have NetWeaver 7.0 Developer Workplace installed on my Windows XP workstation. The current support package level is 09. I want put on support package level 15. Should I install Support Package Stack 15 with JSPM, or should I maintain the individual components with SDM? Is there some better way to apply maintenance to Developer Workplace?
Thanks,

i think it will be better if you install sp stack 15 with jspm.

Citrix and NetWeaver Developer Workplace
Hi everybody,
I was wondering how one could set up NWDW (i.e. Developer Studio + Application Server) via Citrix.
I think that this is one of the solution supported by SAP but I don't seem to grasp the whole picture here.
I'm not talking about technical details, I'd just like to understand the general ideas behind it:
- where is NWDS installed? (on the remote server and accessed via Citrix?)
- how many instances of NWDS are there on the remote server?
- how many instances of the Application Server are there on the remote server?
- If there's only one NWDS and one Application Server on the remote server, how can multiple developers work simultaneously?
Any ideas?
CiaoHi,
let me add some more information on this for the sake of completeness:
As of 710 NWDS this is not a problem since once you managed to specifiy the workspace based on the -data parameter, the NWDS uses 1 <workspace> for local development and another one (<workspace>.jdi) for NWDI related developments.
On 700 the situation is different. There are 3 folders from which the workspace is only 1.
Besides workspace we also have the folders .dtr and .dtc and these are as default under the C:\Documents and Settings\<user> so if someone else logs on then he won't be able to reach these folders and this causes problems once you intend to work with NWDI related perspectives like the DTR or Development Configuration perspective.
You can use the below description since there is a mistake in the note 947581 that is describing this issue.
1)The first folder is the workspace.
You can set it up by editing the shortcut of NWDS in the following way:
<path to your IDE>\eclipse\SapIde.exe -vm "<JAVA_HOME>\bin\javaw.exe" -data "<workspace folder of a given user>"
(!Example!)
D:\JDT\eclipse\SapIde.exe -vm "D:\usr\j2sdk1.4.2_09\bin\javaw.exe" -data "D:/etc/JDIWorkspace/i030853"
2) The second folder (.dtc) can be changed by editing the file under <path of your IDE>\eclipse\plugins\com.sap.java.ide\plugin_customization.ini
Add the line at the end of the file com.sap.ide.eclipse.component.provider/configPoolRoot=<workspace folder of the given developer>
(!Example!) com.sap.ide.eclipse.component.provider/configPoolRoot=D:/etc/JDIWorkspace/i030853/.dtc
3)The third (.dtr) parameter can be changed in the file vm.parameters which is in case of NW04 and NW04S:
<path to your IDE>\eclipse\vm.parameters
Add a line at the end of the file:
-Dvfs.configfolder=<workspace of the given developer>\.dtr
(!Example!)
-Dvfs.configfolder=D:\etc\JDIWorkspace\i030853\.dtr
Let me rephrase: Everything I wrote here is valid only for release 70X and lower.
I hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Ervin -
Guys,
Just wanted to open up a thread for analysing the positioning of NWDWorkplace.
Is there any specific advantage in letting the whole NWDW component (NWDStudioDBJ2EEengine) to be installed on a developer's PC (other than developers freedom) rather than a dedciated server .... (keeping in mind the hassles of patching the apps, db, and administration of the engine itself).
Summary: NWDWorkplace - pros/cons installing on a client/server ..??
Regards
ArunAre you comparing it to something like a VM environment, where each developer would still have their own engine, or are you suggesting that each developer would be using the same engine for testing?
If every developer is using the same engine, I would imagine there would be a hassle for two people working on the same code. If DeveloperA makes a change to the same class that DeveloperB does, and they're both trying to deploy and test on the same day, they would be constantly over-writing each others code. When they have their own engine, they can deploy and test to it as much as they want without having to consult with the other developers to make sure they aren't messing with what they're testing, and then only deploy to dev when satisfied.
I'm wondering, too, if there would be any performance implications?
