Near Constant disconnections

I've had Broadband for about 2 months at my current address. I'm having constant disconnections. This is my log entry It seems to be getting worse. I have home hub 4. I've run the line test but to be honest I don't know if there is noise on the line or not.

if there is an extension socket then that is a good reason to conenct to test socket to eliminate any problems caused by the extension.. if you need an engineer visit and the cause of your drop outs is the extension socket then you will get a bill for £129.99 for call out

• Experiencing near-constant the connection was reset error.

For about the last 3 months, I've had two seemingly-related problems: 1] "The connection was reset/interrupted" error; and 2] web pages loading in a primitive, odd-looking form. Both used to occur every once in a while, but now they're near-constant, to the point that doing anything online is at best a struggle and at worst impossible. The error is especially bad: makes it extremely difficult to reach a web page, load it completely, or do anything should I ever get there (searches, clicking links, etc.). Might be even worse with some sites than others, but it's hard to tell-- seems pretty bad wherever I go on the web. As far as I can tell, this started when I was still using Waterfox, and updated to 32.0.3; I recently switched back to Firefox in hopes of escaping it, but found the same thing happening there. I've tried the suggestions given in the forums (like clearing the cache, removing cookies, pressing Shift while reloading, pressing Ctrl + F5 [for Windows], etc.), as well as uninstalling and re-installing Waterfox, but nothing works. Since my own computer skills are modest at best, I've pretty much run out of troubleshooting options at this point. What I'm looking for is a solution to this, rather than just ways of coping with it. Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it? Will it be solved by the next Firefox update? And is there another browser you can recommend as a replacement for Firefox? I'm really at the end of my rope here; please help!
As of 02/26/15, still having the same problem. I've tried scanning for malware (didn't find any) and configuring Windows firewall for Firefox (made no difference). I've noticed that there's a more accurate description for what I'm experiencing than the one I originally posted: web pages can rarely finish loading anymore, unless they're very short (and often not even then)-- if I wait for them to do so, the error usually occurs. Some are usable if I stop the loading process before the error shows up, but many (most?) won't work that way (not enough ever makes it onscreen). Seems like this site is largely unaffected, but places like rogerebert.com or TV Tropes are pretty much inaccessible to me now. Is anybody still interested in helping me solve this? Because I'm about ready to give up on Firefox for good at this point. Please save me from resorting to Google Chrome or, god forbid, Internet Explorer!

What security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
Re: my security software: I use Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials (also Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, if that helps).
I've now tried the above link's instructions for configuring Windows Firewall to allow Firefox access. It may have helped slightly with the error (which seems to be happening a bit less often); however, the primitive-looking-web-page problem is if anything worse, pages are INCREDIBLY slow to load, and the error remains frequent (can't tell if this possible respite is just temporary, or even mere wishful thinking on my part). In any case, though, my original problem hasn't been solved yet.

• Constant disconnects with Linksys BEFW11S4/Westell/Bellsouth Ultra DSL

I recently upgraded to the 6mb DSL service from Bellsouth. Previously I had the 3mb. Anyways everything was fine for sometime even with the faster service. The last few weeks I have been having constant disconnects(several a day). Naturally the wireless lite on my Linksys BEFW11S4 goes out each time. I then un-power the router then re-power and I'm off and running again. I am using a westell modem. Bellsouth tells me that its not them since i do have an internet coneection and referred me to Linksys. After several live chats(due to disconnects and then having to start tellin my issue all over again) they had me upgrade my firmware. Well did that and problem hasn't changed. I've played with the different router channels and they don't seem to help as well. Bellsouth told me that I had a static ip, so I tied setting up router that way, but then i got no connection. Unil reently everything was fine, this just started! Any help is greatly appreicated. My 17 yr old daughter is going through internet withdraws upstairs!

If you are on DSL using a Westell Modem; make sure you ask your ISP to bridge the Modem first and use the PPPoE fucntion on your router. Change the LAN IP of the router to something else like 192.168.2.1 so it won't get a conflict with the IP of the Westell. Then if you are on cable, you can try adjusting the MTU size to 1492, 1400, 1300, or 576 then check which value would get your connection stable. You can reset your router right after you upgrade it also, then reconfigure it again. Hopefully yell be fine after that!

• Constant disconnects with wireless router.

Hello and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I have a WRT54G wireless router with speed booster. I am experiencing constant disconnects when online gaming. I have one PC - running windows vista 64bit ultimate. This computer is running a wireless connection which is secured and is about 10 feet from the router through a wall.
I also have an xbox 360 with a wired connection. It doesnt seem to have the same issues but does become a bit sluggish at times.
I have called linksys and they instructed me on how to upgrade to the latest firmware. I think it is 7.5.0 or something. Still having issues. Cox (my ISP) has been out and says I am getting a constant 2mb download.
Any help would be appreciated. I have talked to linksys again they have me pull up cmd and run a test which shows me at a 4-10% packet loss. They say this is an acceptable rate.
Still the problems continue. If anyone can help I would be very greatful. If you need more info just let me know and I will provide whatever I can. Thanks!!!

Sounds like a vista problem, they are breading like rabbits it seems. The WRT54G is a good router, I had one for years with no problems. What type of wireless card do you have in the pc, and is it PCI or USB

• Constant disconnecting with my WRT120N

Hi
I have a problem with my wrt120n. I'm having a constant disconnecting problem.
I don't have any problem with the wireless computers connected to the router but the wired one keep geeting disconnected. I'm loosing the internet many times a day on thiis one. Like I said the wireless is ok.
My old router on my computer ( wired) was working well before I installed the wrt120n.
Can someone help me?
Thank you!

This is a problem of the Linksys/Cisco WRT120N product itself. The team from Cisco/Linksys is very irresponsible. Why i say so ?
The 802.11n signal is not certified to be supported but yet they have included this support in this router. By doing so, it causes this related problem that most consumers must be facing now or in the past. It is a shame that such a big company operates and sell their products this way.
The solution: It does not have anything to do with MTU, beacon interval etc.... Just use Mixed BG wireless signal instead of
Wireless N only when you goes to Manual Setup. I am sure that this solves the problem.

• Samsung SCH-LC11 constant disconnects

I just received mine yesterday and used it most of the day with almost no problems. Now it constant;y disconnects, to the point where it is unusable. Anyone else run into this problem?

The lights are not very useful for that.
Even the bars (or boxes) on the Admin page near the top is vague... however
you can go to Configuration -> Diagnostics and then select Modem Details and it will output a bunch of lines.
It will look something like below with the Signal for EVDO and LTE being what you are looking for.

ESN (hex): CENSORED

• Constant disconnects with "no PPPoE" and "no valid IP address" errors

I have AT&T DSL and have an Airport Extreme connected to a Speedstream 4100 modem. My Internet connection has been fine for nearly a year with the AEBS but for the past couple weeks has been disconnecting so frequently that it's almost become useless. The problems reported by the AEBS are: PPPoE Server (no PPPoE server found) and Internet Connection (AEBS doesn't have a valid IP address). It's always these two problems reported.
Restarting the AEBS gets me connected again, and sometimes the connection will come back on its own, but only for a short while. I don't know how to troubleshoot this. Help! Here are my AEBS settings:
Radio Mode: Automatic
Radio Channel Selection: Automatic
Wireless Security: WPA2 Personal
Use wide channels: Checked
Create a closed network: Checked
Use interface robustness: Unchecked

• Near constant data transfer - nearly 2.5Gb in a month!

Hi - I have an unlimited data plan which has a 500Mb fair use clause. This month my mobile bill showed nearly 2.5Gb data use (and I hardly used the phone for internet etc) - it showed 922 internet connections from the phone. Totally unusual pattern - almost every minute of many hours a day there would be 2 or 3 2.6Mb connections to the internet from the phone - so it was going through nearly 10Mb's of data per minute (each 'set' of 3 transfers would be exactly the same amount of data). No amount of trying to convince my service provider that this was not intentional, or even normal, would work. They don't support the iPhone.
Anyone had a similar situation? Oh the iPhone data usage meter is sitting at around 400Mbs so these multiple and numerous connections are not registering on the phone at all.

Hi Nick - yes thanks for your comment. I also assumed there might be an application doing this which I why I was rather hoping someone else there might have identified likely suspects - I have many apps and this is new and unusual behaviour. As I have indicated this probably constitutes around nearly 2 Gigs of constant checking in with the internet of around 10Mbs per minute, several times every day - something that would be noticed by others hopefully if it was happening to them. I hope that someone out there may have noticed this.
I have restored the phone etc and reinstalled most apps - left all I don't really use off - but will have to see the next bill.
If this happened to me on a limited data bundle I would be hugely in debt, so if it has happened to anyone else I would be grateful to hear how they resolved it.

• Constant Disconnection from Router

Hi,
I'm trying to get my N95 to co-operate with the Simple Home Media Server software I have.
For a few moments it will see the server, even connect and access it. After a minute, at the most, it will disconnect.
Can anyone help with this problem or is it a bug with the N95?
It never happened when I first got my phone and just used it for browsing via the wlan.
Thanks,
Cayne

Are you still able to browse the the net via wlan? If, no then you try to format you phone, backing up first. If yes, there are some configuration in home media server that you have overlook.
Frequent disconnection on wlan have numerous causes:
1- Interference from other signal that uses 2.4Ghz
signal such as microwave, remote tel. unit, etc.
2- Settings on you wlan got corrupted.
3- Port settings;one should choose a port with less interuptions

• Constant Disconnection from Cellular Network

Hi There, so I've gotten my iPhone 5 32GB since July 2013 and I honestly adore the phone however, there is a problem i'm facing with it quite recently.... the phone keeps disconnecting from the cellular network carrieer every 10 secs of the day... so...I'll start up the phone it connects with 5 blocks of reception.. then it drops to four...then to 1... then it completely disconnects itself from the network and the Edge sign disappers and then 5 secs after it connects back. I dont use my phone much to talk.. however.. it messes up my data plan, i can't even make a call that is more than 10secs... it drains the battery life and I have to wait every few secs to send a whatsapp mesg/fb etc. . I spoke to my carrier... they used different sims of the same network to see if its the sim card itself being the issue.. but its not.. we even used another network's sim.. but no difference.. What should I do?
Sincerely, Stefan (first time Apple user)

Hey stef4896,
These are all the standard troubleshooting steps for the issue you're encountering:
Follow the instructions below for assistance with troubleshooting cellular data issues on your iPhone. After performing each step, please test to see if the issue is resolved.
Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings, turn airplane mode on, wait three seconds, and then turn off again.
Restart your iPhone.
Ensure that your software is up to date:
Check for a Carrier Settings Update. Tap Settings > General > About.
Check for an iOS Software Update. Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to acquire the network again.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try toggling it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still does not, contact your carrierto report the issue.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Restore the iPhone as new.
Contact your carrier to:
Verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan.
Verify that there are no account-related blocks.
Find out if there are specific error messages in the carrier logs that could help determine why the issue is occurring.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, contact your carrier, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.

• Constant Disconnection from Airport Extreme Networked iMac (late 2009)

I keep trying to copy fairly large files (2-7GB) over my Aiport Extreme (latest—5th generation) network from a early 2011 Macbook Pro to a 27" iMac (late 2009), and I keep getting disconnected from the iMac while the file is copying. I've tried repairing permissions on every computer in the house and restarting them, but I'm still having issues. I have no issues copying files to another late 2011 Macbook Pro in the house, so it seems to be happening only when I copy them to the iMac. The iMac is running Snow Leopard and the Macbook Pros are running Lion, so could that have something to do with it?
Additionally, I had been trying a wireless extended network with another previous generation Airport Extreme, but I found the connection wasn't much stronger with the extension, so I've just been leaving the second Airport Extreme unplugged. I've had that unplugged for months and haven't had any issues, so I don't think that's the problem.
I'm hoping this isn't a sign of something being wrong with the Aiport card in the iMac. Anyone have any ideas?

Bump?

• Constant disconnect/reconnect and tons of errors.

Ijust got a brand new iphone 4, and just installed newest itunes fresh a couple of days ago.
The computer is running windows xp pro, and was just recently reinstalled about a month ago.
When I plug my iphone into the computer it will start to sync and then stop an give me an error either about "error reading device, iphone not connected," or an error with a hex code, or all of the above and others.
Heres what happens
I plug the phone in, the battery icon changes to a plug, then the lightning bolt, then back to normal, the phone tells me charging is not supported with this accessory, and sync in progress.
Windows pops up the autorun menu and asks me what I want to do with the connected camera, open it in word, or scanners and cameras.
Itunes also opens and starts the sync process, it shows syncing on the iphone.
then after backing up and copying some apps, the iphone goes back to the home screen as if it was unplugged, the sync stops and gives me errors.
I'm getting extremely frustrated with this too. If I leave it plugged in I constantly keep hearing the whistle noise the phone makes when it's plugged in, and windows wont shut up with the usb device plugged in/unplugged sound.
It will just keep disconnecting, trying to sync, failing and doing it all over again until I unplug it.
I've restarted the phone, restarted the computer and it still does this.
Do I have to unplug all of my other usb devices? it totally gets confused if I have a flash drive or another phone (my ROKR E8 or RAZR) plugged into the computer.

Sorry to tell you this but the iPhone is not a storage or backup device! Occasionally it will have problems, an app may be corrupted and cause problems! Because of this you will need to do one of the three (restart, reset, restore). You really need to backup everything on phone somewhere on your computer or a backup drive! Old phones stored contacts on the Sim... the iPhone doesn't... If you rely completely on your iPhone backup you may be sorry because that can get corrupted also!!
Again sorry to tell you this but having an iPhone when you dislike iTunes and refuse to backup (besides iPhone backup) is a bad decision... Not backing up is a bad decision with any smart phone!!! They're no longer plain old phones!!!

• Constant disconnects

My high speed works great when it works. However it has always disconnected several times a day. I try restarting the modem router and computer and it sometimes works but usually not. I think it just works because time has gone by and it would have started again anyway because after awhile it starts again and is very fast again. But its only a matter of time before it stops again. So now i have learned it doesn't matter what i do, it eventually will come back on, so i do nothing and wait and it will start again. Where would the problem be? Where do i start? It seems this symptom should describe a particular reason.

• Constant Disconnect, 120 kbps Max!, Poor support,....

HI All,
been with BT for 30 years - yep!" and broadband customer virtually since it was first introduced! past 5 months have been HELL. It starts with continuous disconnects, massive drop is speed from an acceptable 4/5 G through to 128k - the situation is fixed after 7-10 days of continuous calls to support only to re-emerge after 4wks....!!
I've engineer visits....I tried several hubs, filters, checked wiring etc - nothing wrong there. There is substantial crackling on the land line when BB connected - but lien clean as a whistle when BB is unplugged!
On this latest occasion BT support has been taking me round the houses - promised system restored after 48 hours - this was 4 days ago. Yesterday, the specialist network support assures me that service would be restored by 5pm today. I received a call this morning from BT BB support - changing the posts again - now they state that the changes at the exchange have initiated. IP profile has been lifted, signal strength improved – all this at 5 AM this morning. And will take 65 hours to restore full service.... i.e. by 7 am on 23/2/10…!!!
I am utterly fed up with this recurring nonsense and am on the brink of moving ISP/Phone provider…..
Any help/comments is greatly appreciated

Hi Fred
Welcome to the forum.
Sounds like you've been round the houses with your broadband problems, however if we say that everything you've been told is true, and no reason to think not, indeed it will take a while simply because your line will need to settle down again, after all the interventions at the exchange.
A lot of the line adaptive process is automatic, done on various bits of kit at the exchange, and sometimes it can take a while to see stabilisation.
I'd give it a little time as suggested, BUT don't be tempted to restart your hub, leave it running 24/7.

• Constant disconnect after 9 minutes

My boyfriend lives in Australia and I'm in the US - we Skype every day but it's extremely difficult
It disconnects every 8:50-9 minutes exactly during every call. A few times at 3 minutes or 6 minutes exactly. Sometimes when we call each other we cant hear each other at all and have to try again until it works - it can go on for 4-5 tries in a row. I don't know if this is Skype or a network error. It happens to us on Facebook video chat too after the same amount of time and the same issue with the occasional no audio.
My connections are fine but he's on mobile so I don't know if its his network cutting in and out or what but regardless I'd really like some help so that we can screenshare and watch DVDs together
Help is much appreciated!!

The behavior you describe isn't normal, snc. iMovie shouldn't interrupt the import at 9 minutes. There should be no pause to "convert" to DV. That's not typical of iMovie.
The entire video should import to iMovie direct to DV files inside the Media folder, starting a new file every 9+ minutes. That's the 2GB file-size limit for iMovie clips. There should be no pause. Importing should continue until the end of the video.
That said, it's possible there's a tape flaw that is confusing iMovie. A short break in the video at 9 minutes — where you stopped shooting, advanced the tape a bit, then started taping — would cause what you describe. Or, I suppose, a tape defect. Or even, I suppose, a dirty play head that's created an imperfect recording.
Some things to try:
• Try using a head-cleaning tape.
• Try recording longer than 11 minutes with a different tape, and import that. If the problem goes away, the problem is with the other tape.
• Is the project on an external disk? Make sure the disk the project resides on uses the Mac OS Extended disk format. If it's not, iMovie may be having problems saving to disk, causing the strange pause you see.
My guess is the problem will go away with a new tape.
