Nearly half of the 128GB SSD space missing

Hi all, I have an MBA 2009, model A1304. The Hard drive system information says its an "Apple SSD SM128". But when I look at the available and total space, I have one partition 28.8GB (bootcamp) and one 38.8GB (Main MacOS). Those are the total sizes. They come to 67.6GB. Now I read many forum posts complaining on 5GB lost here, 10 there. But this is like half the SSD drive. Could it be that its going bad and half of it was marked off limits or something.
When I boot the machine to MacOS, it shows a similar state (see screenshot below).
I would appreciate any help in tackling this.
PS when I look at the Admin tools > System management > Storage > Disk Management screen in Windows, it shows a 45GB "Unallocated space" partition, which is invisible under MacOS. I guess this is the missing space. Can I format it and use it under Windows? is this something in use by Bootcamp that mustn't be touched - i.e. could it be true that Bootcamp needs 45GB system space to operate?
Many thanks..!

Correction: MacOS is 10.6.7

  • Envy X2 128GB SSD space is missing

    Does anyone know why the 128GB SSD drive on an Envy X2 would only have 116GB of total space?  This is the TOTAL space allocated to the 4 partitions that were preconfigured on the drive, NOT total free space.  I wonder if this discrepancy (or other problems) might be the reason that HP no longer appears to be offering the 128GB CTO option?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
    For small computers, HP use HDD/SSD from other vendors. From time to time, contracts and agreements from vendor to venor(s) may expire and one party may not renew the contract(s). Very hard to say why because nearly ALL contracts/agreements from vendors to vendors/customers are bounded in commercial secretes.
    Hope this makes sense.

    Id choose the I5 yes, depends on what your usage is going to be,
    ....your question about "128 gig being enough" begs the question for IDEALIZED USE of your macbook AIr
    In the case of a Macbook Air with ‘limited’ storage on the SSD, this distinction becomes more important in that in an ever rapidly increasing file-size world, you keep vital large media files, pics, video, PDF collections, music off your SSD and archived on external storage, for sake of the necessary room for your system to have free space to operate, store future applications and general workspace.  You should never be put in the position of considering “deleting things” on your macbook SSD in order to ‘make space’.
    *Generally, unless you NEED the data at least once every few weeks or once a month,...it really does'nt NEED to be on the SSD of your Macbook Air.
    Professionals who create and import very large amounts of data have almost no change in the available space on their computers internal HD because they are constantly archiving data to arrays of external or networked HD.
    Or in the case of the consumer this means you keep folders for large imported or created data and you ritually offload and archive this data for safekeeping, not only to safeguard the data in case your macbook has a HD crash, or gets stolen, but importantly in keeping the ‘breathing room’ open for your computer to operate, expand, create files, add applications, for your APPS to create temp files, and for general operation.
    Ive got more APPS than any human should have on my 128gig AIR,..(50 or so),....and 10gig of working data, important files etc etc.
    Still have 82gig available....... the entire point is that someone shouldnt consider the Air a "storage device" for tons of pics, music, vids, etc.
    *Never consider any computer a data storage device at any time under any circumstance, rather a data creation, sending, and manipulation device. Anyone who thinks data is safe on any computer, even copied upon multiple partitions is making a mistake that will, without fail, strike.
    For needs of packing around a LOT of "big data" with your Air in its case..., get a nice 1TB HD for $70, or even a 2TB drive not much bigger.
    Perfect 2TB HD, very slim, the "little giant"   made by Toshiba (have several of these) $119

  • Is the 128GB SSD of the 2015 11'' MacBook Air slow?

    I have been watching reviews about the 128GB SSD that the new 11'' MacBook Air features and they say that it's pretty slow compared to the 256GB SSD. What is your experience? Have you seen a real difference between these two hard drives?

    Slow is relative... Is it slower than the new 256GB SSD? Yes. The 256GB SSD is a completely different (and much newer) device that's substantially faster. In reality, unless you're doing a lot of file intensive work, you probably won't notice a lot of difference.

  • Anyone with any news on the 128GB SSD in the 17" Unibody MBP ?

    Anyone received one yet? What make is it, and has anyone tested it for speed specs? I gather the Toshiba 256GB has disappointed in this regard: is the 128GB a better SSD option for those that don't need the space?
    Thanks

    I have gotten used to the new keyboard layout on the X1 gen. 2., and actually find it quite comfortable now.
    But how the adaptive keyboard ever got past the Lenovo quality control, boggles my mind. No one seems to like it and for good reason. The lack of any tactile feedback, makes it nearly impossible to keep a fast typing flow going when programming or working with hotkeys in spreadsheet software or likewise.
    Hope Lenovo listen to the feedback they receive from the community and through reviews, and reconsider ( and by that I mean completely remove ) the "smart" adaptive keyboard for the 2015 version.

  • 128gb ssd with 64gb lexar SDXC, or 256gb ssd?

    Hi guys, i'm planning on getting the 15", 2.2ghz macbook pro, with 8gb ram, and that leads me to my above stated dilemma;
    i'm planning on upgrading to the SSD, but i'm a little bit concerned about the pricing of the 256gb SSD (which is the ideal space required for me), so
    is it safer for me to get the 128gb SSD, and just permanently place an SDXC into the sd card slot (for my photos and music)? would there be any complications pertaining to doing that?
    if not, is it really worth getting the 256gb SSD, or should i just stick to the 500gb 7200rpm HDD?
    thanks in advance,
    stanley

    CS5 is a pretty intensive application, and so is Parallels. I still think you'll be okay with CS5, but Parallels runs sort of slowly on my 11 inch Air. So, I installed my Windows in Bootcamp where it runs a lot smoother, and is a better overall experience. I'm not saying you can't used parallels with the Air, it probably just won't run quite as smoothly as it does on your 17. However, it will be able to handle the remaining tasks you listed with ease, I really do think you'll like it a lot more than your 17 inch pro. The new Airs are just so likeable- there's nothing I can find wrong with mine. I have a 15 inch Pro (2011, Thunderbolt, 2.2 GHZ) and ever since I got my Air last week I've used the Air 80% of the time and my Pro 20% of the time. It's just more enjoyable to use, and even though I'd never let go of my Pro because of how powerful it is, I know I'm going to continue to use my Air more.

  • 128GB SSD specs and manufacturer?

    Anyone know the specs and/or manufacturer of the 128GB SSD that Apple is using?
    There are a number of 128GB SSDs out there now, some of which don't perform very well. Just want to make sure Apple chose a decent one before I plunk down an extra $600.

    I'd guess it would be a large OEM with 128 GB drives - either Samsung, SanDisk, or Micron.

  • MacBook Pro with SSD that has a limited disk space (120GB). Rendering in Project File (User/Movies/Final Cut Projects), it takes huge space and the limited disk space would not be enough for the whole editing.

    I'm using MacBook Pro with 128GB SSD that has a limited disk space. As we know, when rendering in Project File (User/Movies/Final Cut Projects), it takes huge space and the limited disk space would not be enough for the whole editing.
    My question is, Is there any method to get the rendering Projects file saved into an external hard drive which is connected with USB/ Thunderbolt/ Firewire, with huge disk space (eg. 500GB HDD).
    Now, new project created in my Mac is automatically saved in (User/Movies/Final Cut Projects) and my Mac has ran out of space to hold the files.
    Thank you.

    You have at least 3 different ways to show the project library:
    1) Go to WIndow->Show Project Library
    2) Click the button in bottom left of your window:
    3) Hit the keyboard shortcut (Command-0)
    The project library will be shown, occupying the area where the timeline usually is.
    Your hard disks will be visible. Click the hard disk where you want the new project to reside and hit Cmd-N to create a new project.

  • My phone keeps saying I am running low on storage space. Over half of the contents in it is in the "other" category. what does that include? I wish to have more music

    I have a 16GB iphone but am an avid music lover. I own tons of music. I have iMatch and iCloud. As of right now my phone says I only use about half of the storage space on it in audio. Very litle is used for apps or pictures. I have another half of the storage space in a category called "Other". What is in that category? I would really like to add more music however my storage keeps stating I am almost full and need to manage. I would delete things if I thought it would make more room but it seems to take very little room off when I remove apps and pictures and does not really affect the other category. Someone please help describe what is in that category and how I can change add more room. Thank you!

    This indicates corrupt files.
    A restore should resolve.

  • The Property Inspector is missing the V Space and H Space fields in DW6 - where did they go?

    I just downloaded DW6.  The Property Inspector is missing the V Space and H Space fields, therefore I am unable to add space around my images.  Suggestions?

    It is no longer available because the problem with that was that it applied spaces around the image rather than where the user actually wanted them.  You now need to use CSS and apply margins and paddings and target exactly where you want them by using something like this:
    img {
        margin-bottom: 0;
        margin-right: 0;
        margin-left: 0;
        margin-top: 0;
        padding-top: 0;
        padding-right: 0;
        padding-bottom: 0;
        padding-left: 0;
    img {
         border: 0;
         padding: 0;
    The second style is generic to set margin and padding for all four sides.
    Good luck.

  • Half of the filters are missing CS4

    Half of the filters are missing on reinstall of CS4 64 bit. If I switch over to 32 bit the High Pass filter is missing.
    Vista Ultimate 64bit
    Any help to revover these filters would be appreciated.

    Before you go through all that try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
    You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
    This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
    A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

  • Missing bottom half of the Sony Ericsson Sync screen

    Hi!
    After logging in to Sony Ericsson Sync at http://www.sonyericsson.com/wportal/uss/promotion?cc=se&lc=sv I am missing half of the screen. I see the status part (last sync, and links to Contacts/Calendar/Bookmarks/Notes/Settings), but not the bottom half as depicted here:
    This means I am unable to add a new phone for synchronization, which is a bit annoying.
    I've tried in Opera, Iceweasel (Firefox) and Chrome, both from home and from my office, and I get the same problems everywhere.

  • Powershot G10 half of the picture is missing.

    I have a Powershot G10, my grandson got a hold of it and I think changed some settings.  I can not figure out what he did, however, when you take a picture only half of it appears on the review screen. Can someone help me with this?

    Hello Mimiofbg,
    At this time, it is not clear what you mean when you say half of the image is missing.  If half of the image is cleaved off, or lines appear which constitute the remainder of the image- then it's possible there is a malfunction.
    You can toggle the display on the Playback as another user suggested by toggling the <DISP> button on the rear of the camera.  This will change the view each time you press the button.  Attempt to cycle through this and see if you can obtain your normal view back.
    Another method to test if this is a real issue with the camera is to download a few images and see how they appear.  If images appear to be truly cut in half, then this may be an issue that will require service to resolve.
    If this is an urgent matter, please contact us through our Support and Service web site.  To set up service, please use the Arrange a Repair link through this same site, under the Service and Repair heading.

  • Missing half of the filters menu

    I just installed Photoshop CS4 64-bit and I was going to throw some high pass over a copied image and found that half of the filters menu was gone.  I'm missing the following sections: Artistic, Brush Strokes, Sketch, Texture, Video, and Other.  I used the 30-day trial on another computer just as a demonstration, so I know they SHOULD be there.  And ideas friends?

    We might be able to help if you told us a bit more.
    For example:
