Neat and Tidy Songs

Hey, I think this problem is pretty common. I have an itunes library full of songs from different sources (music store, cd's, cassete transfers, etc). Many songs dont even have names (Track 1, etc) and those that do are almost never consistent (E.g. The Beatles, Beatles, etc) and usually lack most other data (album, etc)
I was wondering if there were any programs that could fix up the meta data. I have Tunatic, which will identify a song and author (using soundflower). Perhaps someone can make an automator app to use with that?
I don't have the slightest clue how to use applescript and automator. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

There are tons of scripts and a few Automator actions available at Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes.
The important issue is how well are your tracks tagged? If they are not tagged very well, you could try a program like iEatBrainz.
If you let iTunes organize your music files, then there is little reason to play around with file names and directories. I find I almost never have to go find a file on the disk outside of iTunes. However, there are utilities that will help you clean up file names, such as TriTag which will let you name files based on their tags. TriTag will also search the FreeDB database for missing tag data and it can also reorganize your directory structure.
Just remember, if you reorganize your music files outside of iTunes, then iTunes may no longer be able to find those files.

  • Neat and tidy...

when i import cd's onto my macbook using itunes 7 as all other itunes it puts them into my music section in the library. But when it comes to organizing i like my singles and albums seperate so they are easier to find. so i create a new playlist with the artist and album name and move all the songs into that, but they are still in my music section.
is there anyway how i can move them so they are not in my music section so they are in there own playlist?
    please help
    thanx

Your "Library" contains everything you have in there. Playlists are nothing more than lists of things in your library. Even though you make a list of a set of songs, they all still sit in your library. There is no way to have songs listed in a playlist and NOT listed in the library listing as well. Think of "Library" as "Show All".

  • Neat and Tidy filing.

I have finally got around to straightening up my filing; lots of newly christened folders set in their own super folder with nice individual icons for each.   All very pretty if you like it that way.
But now and again (not invariably) when I go back to the files, everything is higgldy piggldy and I have to straighten them up again.   And I don't like it that way.
Would anyone know why, having neatly set them all out, the files develop a mind of their own and go walkies?

It's because the Finder thinks it's smarter than you are and it's going to organize the icons its way whether you like it or not!   But seriously it's the way child folders inherit the layout from their parents (via the .DS_Store files in each folder).  You can override it using the finder's Show View Options (cmd-j) and setting it the way you want it.  But even then you may have to quit the finder to get it to "stick".  This has always been a problem to some extent but IMO got worse with (Snow) Leopard (very frustrating, hence my sarcastic initial remark, nothing personal to you, just the **** Finder).

You copy them from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The iphone is not a backup/storage device.

  • Upgraded iTunes and  all songs in music folder are duplicated

Recently upgraded to iTunes 10.1.1.4 and all songs are now duplicated. Any idea why this happened and is there an easy way to get rid of the duplicates? When I opened iTunes after the upgrade, it acted as though it was a new installation-asking questions about finding song files.

Something went wrong with the upgrade. itunes should not have asked about finding files on an upgrade.
For duplicates in the itunes program, sort by Date Added. Figure out which group is valid - either the oldest or newest, and delete whichever group that isn't needed. You can highlight the first and then hold the shift key to highlight the last, so you can delete the group all at once.
For duplicate on your hard drive, use Windows Explorer and Date Created/Modified the same way.

    Hi Dennis!
I have a couple of steps for you to try in order to get those songs transferred to your iPod touch. First, make sure all of your software is updated with the latest versions. If the songs were downloaded from iTunes, you will also want to delete the songs from your library and then download them again from the list of past purchases on your iTunes account. An article about doing that can be found here:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If you try a sync after those two steps and are still seeing the issue, then I would like you to try syncing the iPod by setting it to manually manage. An article outlining more information on manually managing your iPod sync can be found here:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
If you are still having issues after that, I have another article that can outline some other reasons why your songs may not transfer to your iPod, and it can be found here:
Some songs in iTunes won't copy to iPod

  • HT1296 I recently purchased songs from my iphone.  All good...  But I then went to put them on my ipod touch.  They seemed to have downloaded but the songs wont play and the song title/the text, appears in a grey colour.

I recently purchased songs from my iphone.  All good...  But I then went to put them on my ipod touch.  They seemed to have downloaded but the songs wont play and the song title/the text, appears in a grey colour and there is a downlaod symbol in front of the song title.  what do i do next??  They play on my iphone and from the itunes library but not from my ipod touch.

If the songs are still on your ipod, make sure autosync is disabled in iTunes on your computer, connect and right click on it in the device list, then choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought media and apps from your ipod to your computer.
If the songs are not on your computer and got deleted from your ipod as well, you can't get them back, unless you have a backup of your iTunes library as part of your computer backup.

  • How can I make it so that my songs don't go on her iPod and her songs ....

Me and my mother just got iPods for christmas and hers was a U2 ipod and mine was a 30gb ipod. I have downloaded some songs and have imported some cds but my mother doesn't want those songs on her ipod. How can I make it so that my songs don't go on her iPod and her songs don't go on mine.Do i need to create another itunes?

The computer can tell the difference between your two iPods. When you first plugged each one in, you named them and the computer recognizes each one as a separate disk.
Now, when you plug in your iPod, and you are looking in iTunes at your iPod contents, you will see four buttons in the bottom right corner of iTunes - the first one is to display iPod options. Click on this, and under the music tab, select "Automatically update selected playlists only". Then, you scroll through your playlists and select only those you want to be transferred to your iPod. Your mother can do the same thing. Now you can each make your own playlists from the same music library, and only those songs you want to go onto your iPod will transfer when you plug it in. You can make the same selections for all the other options too (video, podcats. photos, etc), so that you only have to have what you want on each iPod.
I have two iPods, a new 5g video iPod and an ancient 1g iPod, and have no problems syncing each of them with different playlists and options.

  • My Ipod Classic 120GB crashes all the time while using it, there is an Apple that comes up and it restarts and sometimes a miscolored screen.  It randomly pauses and skips songs as well.Help?

Not sure why it does this but it has been for the past few year and I'm finally getting tired of it.  Any way to solve this problem?  It randomly skips and pauses songs and if its doesn;t it last about 10 minutes or so and then freezes with an apple on the screen and also a miscolored apple on the screen.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Does the iPod get overheated after 10 minutes?
Do the iPod Disk Diagnostic, as posted earlier by tt2, it wont solve your problem, but help in troubleshooting.

  • Why cannot I drag and drop songs from one playlist to another?

Actually I have two questions.  I just updated from Leopard to snow leopard.  Now when I import songs, it says "Do you want to import to burn playlist?"  I click "yes".  Then when it is finished copying, I go to "playlists" on the top of the screen and click on the "burn playlist" and it says there are no items.  Where did the songs go.  I would like to burn a playlist that I imported this way.  I haven't tried arranging songs in the order I want them yet, but now see that is an issue also.  I also used to see a list of my playlists on the left side of the screen and the songs within each of those playlists when I clicked on them and easily could drag and drop songs from one playlist to another.  How do I do the same functions that I used to do before I updated? Does this update make it impossible to do the same functions as before?  Where can I find a "manual" of sorts to direct me to explain this new format?  If there is no way to do these things, I will have to say that I want my old iTunes back.  Can I do so???  Actually, the only reason I updated was so that I could play pix and movies from my camera into iPhoto.  When I did so, it said I had to update other programs to get iPhoto to work.  I am trying very hard not to be very frustrated.  PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After poking around for a while figured how to do things in this new iTunes.  Not as intuitive as the old one.  Sorry I don't have time to tell what I figured out.  Maybe some other time.

  • My main computer broke, can i use one of the 5 authorize computers to purchase and download songs

My main computer broke, and I want to know if I can still purchase and download songs to my apple devices using one of my five authorize computers? It is my wife's computer and she also uses itunes. Can I log her off and use my log-in?

Thanks for your reply, Niel. Basically, I can log in into my wife's computer, log in and download new music I purchased or from a CD into my ipad/iphone/ipod with out a problem since is one of my 5 authorize computers? Sorry for being so inquisitive but I'm not the best when it comes to itunes.

  • I SET UP THE HOME SHARING ON MY COMPUTER, AND i CAN STREAM MY PHOTOS AND SEE ALL THE VIDEOS AND LISTEN SONGS IN MY ITUNES, BUT CAN NOT DO HOME SHARING, ON THE TV, ALWAYS SHOWS "TURN ON HOME SHARING ON YOUR OMPUTER WITH YOUR ID WHICH I DID BUT NOTHING HELP

I just bought my apple tv yesterday and SET UP THE HOME SHARING ON MY COMPUTER, I CAN STREAM MY PHOTOS AND SEE ALL THE VIDEOS AND LISTEN SONGS IN MY ITUNES, BUT CAN NOT DO HOME SHARING, ON THE TV, ALWAYS SHOWS "TURN ON HOME SHARING ON YOUR OMPUTER WITH YOUR ID WHICH I DID BUT NOTHING HAPPEN. WHAT'S WRONG? WHAT SHALL I DO NOW?

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

  • I received an e-mail with a hyperlink to a country and western song. I deleted the e-mail but the song still plays everytime I turn on my mail box. How can i delete the music ?

I tried clearing the history and turning off the computer, which is an i-mac.
With Firefox turned off I started my itunes and played some of my library music. When I turned on Firefox mail the country and western song came right back.

I get those all the time. Most annoying. I usually ignore them or mark them as spam.
