Need 1 minute of silence between mp3 song files

I think this is a unique problem! I am making CDs to be played on a DVD player that plays mp3s. I need one full minute of silence between each mp3. Since I couldn't find a program to give me that much space I created a one-minute silent mp3. Problem solved, right?
I can play it on my computer and it works with the spaces. Unfortunately the DVD player reads the files differently. When I play it, the player plays all the song files and ignores the silent files until the end of the CD.
So I thought I'd rename the silent file a different name each time I added it (like s1, s2, s3, etc.). Unfortunately iTunes recognizes it and renames the rest of the silent files every time I rename one.
I am confounded by this. There must be a way to do this. I would so appreciate suggestions.
Thanks,
Becky

You may need multiple silence files, one for each gap. Sounds like a waste of space but they shouldn't take up much room as mp3s since silence occupies little space. Then try your renaming experiment.
Alternatively you can use a tool like mp3Trimmer to actually splice silence onto the start of each file, though I realize you may not want to alter the files when you want to play them normally.
If I were to make multiple silence files, it would have to be hundreds of them. That's one of the problems too. I have free time, but I'd like to spend it doing other things!
I hadn't thought of using the Trimmer to splice silence onto each file, and that may be possible, but again, I'd have to do it to hundreds of songs. I'm putting (or would like to put) about 150-200 songs on each disk.
I will give it some thought.
Another problem is that different DVD players apparently read the CDs in different ways. The first CD I made plays with the blank spaces between songs on MY player, but not on the one I want it to play on.
I am trying another experiment: I'm burning the files onto CDs via the Finder instead of with iTunes. ITunes really wants to be a control freak and there's just not room for two of us in this situation.
I have one CD with the silent files not renamed and one with them renamed and I'll see how they work. Wish me luck.
Thanks,
CPJ

  • I need to add a gap between songs when burning a CD

I just upgraded to iTunes 9.2.0.61, hoping that it would solve my problem. I need to add (yes, ADD) a gap between songs. I'm burning a CD to be used during a performance, and there's a reason that I need 10 seconds of silence after the first song. I believe in previous versions I could add a gap between songs...using Get Info, then Options, but now it just gives me a start and end time for songs. How can I add a 10 second gap between the first two songs?

Add a track consisting of 10 seconds of silence. I made you one in crystal clear MP3 stereo. You can get it here: http://rcpt.yousendit.com/907964971/c4d2c9e22762a8911f4e431a1e2a4e2c
Just put it in the library and then add it to your playlist wherever you need it.
iTunes lets you add a gap between songs, but only up to 5 seconds, and it has to be the same every time.

I need to edit out parts of a song to cut it down to two minutes for my daughter's talent show. I went to info/start time and it will cut down one part but only one part. I need to put three parts together. I tried adding duplicates of the song to the list but if If I change the start time on one it will change it on all of them.

In your library, right-click the song you want to edit.
    select "get info".
go to "options" and select the start and stop times for your first section of the song.
    click "OK".
Find the shortened version of the song in your library. It may take a minute for it to show up. right click it again and select "create (????) version". (the ???? is different for different formats).
The library will spit out a new, second version of the song which you can rename. I suggest you use the original title and add a 1 to the end.
Now you can go back to the other version and repeat the process with a different  start/stop time.
Once you are done editing, you can burn all of your versions to a disk, just make sure your interval time is zero so there are no gaps between edits.
To keep the orginal song on your library, just go back to the original and put the start/stop times back to the original settings.

About to back up iTunes to XHD. Have old version 10.6.3.  Have been afraid to update with 40GB of music. Been digitizing vinyl.  In this version, playlists export as m3u, which needs to be converted to MP3-Song by song??? Goal is to also be able to burn MP3 to flash drive and to XHD as usable data.
Help?? What do I do first?  Could export as m3u-then figure it out later? Or will this data be unreadable junk in a new version of iTunes?
Does new version 11.whatever., have a provision to make all into MP3? Obviously past applecare contract.
Been looking at forums-not clear what to do.
Is there a simple way to convert/export m3u as MP3 in the newest version of iTunes?  Am I asking the right questions???

  • Why Must I put in Credit / Debit Card Info, To Load mp3 songs on my iPhone?

I am curious as to why I "MUST" put in my
Credit Card / Debit Card information if I want
to download some basic games, use iTunes on
my PC-Computer to copy mp3 files to my 'new-used'
iPhone 3G phone, and when I validate more
information it comes back to "Please Provide
Credit Card / Debit Card Information" ect.. There is
no alternative means to simply load mp3 songs to
your iPhone w/out having to put in sensitive debit
    card / credit card information?
iTunes can't have a feature, where you pick the songs
you want to load on your iPhone from your PC or
Mac Book, for FREE? I guess.. I'll do without..
as this seriously hurts my feelings. *SIGH*
It would be nice and wonderful, iTunes can allow you
to load as many songs as possible from your PC-Desktop,
to your iPhone for FREE, without providing any sensitive
credit card / debit card information, without the FEAR of
being charged, and disputing with Credit Card Companies,
and disputing with Apple billing ect.
I think I'll stick to my old phone for my music files.
Or I hope I find some wealthy Jewish sugar mamas, or
Jewish sugar cougars that own 90% corporate stock into
Apple, Microsoft, and other music sharing software that
scans for viruses and malware ect. To help pay the prices
or Apple charge my debit / credit card for loading songs
onto my prepaid, brand-new-used, 3G iPhone.
I am not making sense, because the terms of agreements
I read don't really make sense to me?

If you download anything from the iTunes & App Store, with your existing Apple ID, you need to link a valid credit card info to your Apple ID.
You won't be charged for free games or syncing your music from computer.
If you do not want to put your credit card info in, use iTunes Gift cards which you can buy nearly everywhere.

  • ITunes library grayed out all the time- in between songs played. Must click on cloud icon and wait between each song played.

Whenever I invoke iTunes (doesn't matter if I'm opening the program or simply undocking it), my library is gray, and the little "cloud icon" next to "Music" has a horizontal lightning bolt in it.
If I click on the cloud icon with the bolt (which doesnt respond consistently, somtimes takes 3 or more clicks) it will change to animated diagonal stripes. When this is finished (takes 10 seconds to 10 minutes), I have access to my library.
Sometimes it lets me get through an album before the process restarts. Sometimes I have to go through this between each song. Generally, I perform the process for the first two songs, and then it will play the rest of the album uninterrupted.
Internet connection is always fine, I have confirmed in several instances.
I have added screen shots below... I couldn't add the "working library" step, because as of writing this, I can't get past step 2. So no music for me this morning.
BELOW: Greyed out library, step 1
BELOW: Animated striped icon, library still greyed out, step 2

Thanks for the reply. Did this just now, and no change.
FYI- I have deauthorized and reauthorized, signed out of my iTunes account, deleted pLists, etc before posting here. None of which affected the problem.

  • How to convert mp3 songs on my laptop to itunes for ipad?

how do i convert my mp3 songs to itunes for my ipad

No conversion is needed. Just drag the mp3 files over to iTunes, then sync the music to the iPad.

  • My iTunes freezes when there' a second or more of silence in a song

Anytime there is silence in a track either at the end or in the middle my entire system freezes for a few seconds. This is most noticeable when there is a "hidden" track on a CD. My system freezes for an extended period as the silence gap between "last" song and the hidden track tries to play.
It is very annoying though I have yet to find a solution. I have tried reinstalling a few separate times but the problem persists.

I have exact the same problem. When switching between songs the cpu usage goes up to 100% and freezes for a few seconds, same when there is silence in a song.

  • Spltting an MP3 song or other audio files. PLEASE HELP!

Hi, guys. I dont even know if I am discussing this under the right category but I hope someone can help. I have a Mac Pro, which I just acquired. I have been used to Window PCs all my life. I am trying to see if there is a way I can split a large audio file (MP3 song) into a smaller clip on the Mac. I don't even mind if this means I have to download an additional program. I am trying to use an audio track I already converted into an MP3 version as a ring tone on my phone. But I don't like the way the song starts from the beginning. I am trying to create a 1-minute audio clip out of the long track and use that. I'll appreciate all the advice I can get.

hey there Dr. Tee & welcome to Discussions.
you could try to do this w/ GarageBand. open GB, import or drag in the file, cut out the parts you don't want, from Toolbar menu, "Share" ringtone to iTunes.
    good luck.

  • Dropouts between every song since itunes 12 on OS 10.10 when using a library in a Time Capsule

Since using iTunes 12 on Yosemite I have constant dropouts between every song when having my library on a time capsule. I know the TC is in some kind of energy saving mode after a couple of minutes (why can't I change the length of that?) but the thing is: it wasn't a problem under Mavericks using iTunes 11.x.
Anyone having the same problem and/or a solution for that?

    1. No, undelete is not a feature of the Mac OS. That's handled by back up apps.
    2. Recovery Software will not get your Library back. The best you can hope to do is to get your original photos back. When a recovery app scans the disk it will find many files of the same name. In every case elect to recover the largest file size - that has the best chance of being the original
    3. Yes you can restore from Time Machine to another location
    4. If you don't trust Time Machine then why are you using one of the (very many) alternative apps?

"If it's not too late delete itunes off your c
    drive and reinstallit on d"
No need to uninstall iTunes from the
main C: drive and install it to another drive. In
fact, it is a bit safer to keep the iTunes
Program installed on the same drive with the
    other programs.
iTunes operates as a database of information for your
music files. The actual music files are stored on
your PC, not within iTunes. iTunes keeps absolute
references of the music file location and other
information in its database file. This allows iTunes
to use music files from any location on the PC:
different directories/folders on the main HD, another
internal drive, and external drive or a network drive
(or any combination of the above). Each song
reference has a specific and hardcoded path so iTunes
can find and play (or sync) it.
Make sure you only change the location of the iTunes
Music Folder, rather than the iTunes
program. Move all the music files to the D: drive.
I respectfully disagree with your claim. I've been running itunes on a dedicated music drive for over a year and had not one issue. iTunes can still allocate a file from any one of my computer's 5 hard drives. Keeping it where other programs or OS are installed makes no difference at all. By installing iTunes on the music drive, the iTunes music folder is automatically where she would want it.

  • Can I swap all tags between two songs?

I downloaded a compilation album but the songs are all mislabeled -- all of the info for song 1 belongs to, say, song 7, and all of the info for song 7 belongs to song 5, and all of the info for song 5 belongs to song 13....  Since it's a compilation album, there are a lot of tags that I would need to edit to correct this (name, year, track number, artist, composer, etc.).  Is there a way to swap *all* tags between two songs?  Even better, is there a way to edit the library info using some sort of text editor instead of the GUI?  Thanks.
    - mb

Just change the track numbers... Line them up in song name order so they don't jump about as you edit things.
I have scripts for similar tasks within the same file, e.g. swapping track name with artist, at http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/scripts.asp.

  • How to download MP3 songs from my computer harddrive to IPOD?

This a used IPOD that I just bought.
I restored it to its factory settings by using Itunes software.
Now I am trying to download some MP3 songs from my computer so that I can listen to them using the IPOD. I don't even know this is possible. I used Windows Explorer and droped the songs to IPOD 'drive'. IPOD says 'no music' and I can't play any of the songs using IPOD, but the songs are showing up in the Windows Expolorer. I can play them using Windows media player also. What am I doing wrong?

You need to use iTunes to put music on the iPod so that it can be played.

  • Problems listening .mp3 songs with Itunes

When I download a.mp3 song, for example from bandcamp, Itunes open but the song does not appear so it does not play, why ??????????????????????

    Chad,
Glad to hear that Steve's script was helpful.
As to the bug, I don't know.  The problem you report is not common.  Usually when iTunes displays artist-title in the Name field, it is either an untagged MP3 or a WAV file, but in those cases it does not correct itself when you give it a kick.  Between that and the non-refresh problem you report, I think there is something else going on besides a tagging issue.  At your convenience, you may want to reinstall the newest iTunes, and see if it helps.
    Anyway, enjoy the music!

You need to edit the audio file of the song to speed a song up. If you have GarageBand '11 on your mac, try this:
