Does anyone have any advice regarding 256 bit full disk encryption software for Macs? The other discussions on the topic are years old, so I would like some current input. Thanks for your help in advance.
Depending on your Mac, you might not want to upgrade to OS X 10.7 or 10.8 as it will not run the PowerPC based software your currently using costing a bundle to replace it all, also they will slow down your machine if it's not a more recent issue. You don't want to upgrade OS X without AppleCare defending your possibly bricked logicboard that's for sure.
Filevault encrypts the boot drive, however in doing so makes it near impossible to fix if you have a software issue and need to recover files directly or by using specialty software. Also it robs the machine of performance even more than the Lions do. So you will really need a SSD to work best with 10.7/10.8 and Filevault, then it has to be freshly installed. Filevault needs 50% free space on the boot drive, then it's going to write to the slower 50% half of the hard drive where performance is terrible compared to the first 50%.
Also Filevault is cracked under certain conditions, and if someone gets their hands on the machine (like the law) and knows what they are doing.
If you take your Filevaulted machine to Apple to fix, they are going to require the password to fix the machine obviously.
Software based encryption is vulnerable, you might want to instead place your sensitive data on external self-encrypting hardware that doesn't rely upon software or computer hacks/bypasses (ike freezing the RAM) to get to it.

With the senstive data off the computer and on a external device, there is the option of removing, hiding and securing the device. If used with a computer that's never connected to the Internet, it's safe from snoopers, except from a survelliance van parked outside your door.

put the phone in DFU mode (do a search for how to do this) and restore to the latest firmware. you may have to download the firmware from apple and when selecting restore or update in itunes press the shift key and select the firmware.

I am using a HP CapShare 920 handheld scanner and I would like to download documents onto my mac. I purchased an IR778 usb port adapter specific for a mac, downloaded the required app for this. The mac recognises the ir778 but will not recognise the scanner. Now it works fine on my netbook, yet I can not read the files they are so small. I am looking for some help so I can use my much preferred mac.
All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode,put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. Also, discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. My son's ipad mini has become not usable because it asks for constantly asks for iCloud password. It says that it is not the correct password and the screen reappears. I know the password is correct because I can login to the website via another PC.
Part of the issue is that it appears not be connected to the network. It appears to be trying to then gets interuptted by the iCloud password request.
I tried to restore from iTunes when connected to PC, however, it says it cannot do this because Find My Phone has been activated on the ipad. To deactiviate I need to turn it off on the ipad which required my iCloud password (seems I am in a catch 22).
Any suggestions on how to proceed?

I've been in an administrative job at my university, in which I needed to be able to access lots of past email conversations. I ended up saving *everything* religiously, by copying each email or conversation into an "On My Mac" folder on either my home or office machine, flagging it as copied, then unflagging it and moving it to a like folder on the other machine. As a result I'v now got a trillion folders for various aspects of my job, filled with quite a few messages that I probably no longer even need, but they're way too many to go through and delete one by one. Unfortunately, I haven't made much use of the iCloud folders, but I'm so tired of having to essentially manually sync my stored mail in the manner I just described, that I'm thinking of starting to file everything to iCloud folders. The downside of that is that obviously if the internet is down and a given folder wasn't refreshed before it went down, I won't have access to the saved mail.
Moreover, I'm about to step down from the admin post -- within about 6 months a lot of what I saved won't be needed at all, and going forward, I won't need to save nearly the same quantity of messages for later reference. I'd like to come up with some viable "triage" strategies for limiting the mail I do save.
This is really just an open question: Does anyone have any good mail filing and storage techniques that you'd be willing to share? I'm especially interested in criteria you use for what you save and don't save, and where/how you save it.Well, the one set up on exchange 2k3 is now working fine, although no changes were made on either the iPhone or the exchange side, so that's fun, but it still is throwing errors when connecting to the other 2 exchange accounts. The common elements are that both non-functioning exchange accounts are google apps for business accounts. So is one of the ones that's working, by the way. The settings on both accounts are the same as the one that's working, and both worked fine before the 8.3 upgrade. I have no issue accessing both of these accounts on my ipad which is currently on 8.2.x. If it's not the iphone OS at fault, I'm at a loss as to what it could be.

I'm getting a lot of pop up ads. mostly while using Facebook. I'm running Safari on a Macbook Pro running Yosemite. Does anyone have any suggestions for an Ad blocker. I don't see anything in the App store.
I can't swear to it but I don't recall this being a problem pre-Yosemite. I could be wrong. I haven't been real active on Facebook until recently. I see some third party apps out there but am alway wary of non approved software.

RonYou may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:

The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -
The battery for my macbook pro 13 says "service battery". Now I want to get a replacement but the reviews for it are horrible! Does anybody have any suggestions? I don't want to spend 130 dollars on something I'm going to have to replace in less than a year (which is what normally I been reading) I do design work and I take my mac everywhere. Why does it matter if it a scam????? I'll let you figure that out by yourself. If I'm going to replace it, why should I be contempt with a battery that I have to replace within months (as stated by some people in the comments). The issue here is not if I should or not replace it OBVIOUSLY I'm going to have to before it starts going crazy. The underlying issue is why is the replacement battery for a lack of better words " a bit crap." It comes with a 3 month guarantee?? Is that a joke?!??!?! Some people complained it malfunction after only 8- 9 months? I'm sorry but as an Apple fan I think it's absolutely rubbish. I know there is no magic cure I'm just hoping someone shines the light on how crappy this replacement is.

I am using Logic Pro 9 with two MXL 990 microphones in my piano and a Rode NT1A for vocals. I have tried recording with added reverb and keeping getting not a natural reverb sound, but a rather "pixilated" one that does not sound natural. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this issue? I have tried using Silververb and Space Designer, and both result in the same problems. Thank you!
This is asking for the impossible! It does not sound natural because maybe it isn't and in judging so whats your reference anyway. If you are in dire need of some natural sounding room you can go and record it yourself. But even then, the chances that it sounds like you imagined it, are very slim.
There are very decent sounding reverberation plugins, based on artificial reverb generators or convolution-style, the last one is said to sound more 'natural' then the first one. Be it as it maybe, it really is like cooking food. You got all the ingredients for this delicious taste at hand and believe it or not to reach a satisfying result this is not enough, because if you do not mix the ingredients in the right proportion you will end up with a different dish you thought you'll get. This is exactly the same when one would mix audio, I dare say.
So treat yourself to some good ingredients and the rest is up to you, namely: taste and experience!
And looking at some of my past music productions I always find the same plugins for the 'ambient' task:
Altiverb by Audio Ease when I have acoustic ensembles (classical music mostly), the Sony Oxford Reverb in studio productions, Bricasti when I have to deal with drums and MMultiBandReverb from MeldaProduction for all-round stuff. Thats the base I start from, after that I can end up with dozen Reverb plugins which basically all are doing the same thing but just in a tiny different way. -

I see in itunes many strange crazy iphoto events that in iphoto do not exist.
These vents are named as data and contains just few photos.
each event can be sync with IOS devices, but that event is not in iphoto !
It looks like miniatures... no way to solve this issue making all possible maintenance in iphoto library.
THis issue is very old, very terrible, people start to have doubts about iphoto as a reliable software.

FabioApple aren't here. As you're the only person with this problem that I've seen on here, I would suspect that its more a local problem on your machine than something Apple need to fix.
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

An adaptor doesn't burn out. It merely serves as a means to connect the power prongs on your device to the power supply.
I believe you are thinking of a transformer, which you do not need. A transformer converts one voltage to another.
You don't need to do that as the power supply of modern electronics can take almost any worldwide voltage.
Look at the label on the device. It should indicate the input power acceptable of 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz.
Additionally, I found the adapters cheaper in the UK than I found them in the US. They were available in most supermarket chains. I wasn't in Ireland, so I can't say one way or the other.
If you have something that doesn't have that input power spec, it would require a transformer.
On other items like electric clocks or things with motors, you can connect them up to a transformer and the voltage will be correct, but the frequency may not. For clocks, that will cause them to not keep time well. For motors, they will burn out. -
I have an early 2008 Mac Pro, 8 gb ram with a Dell 27” display and a 42” LG TV. I am thinking about upgrading the stock ATI Radeon 2600 graphics card for better resolution, preferring 2 dvi outputs or 1 dvi and 1 vga vs 1 dvi and a mini. I don't do a lot of Final Cut Pro, gaming, etc. I am interested in best value for the graphics card.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the best graphics card for these larger displays for the best value?
