Need a boot disc & drives: Toshiba Satellite C650D-008

I deleted the backup partition that had the drives for my Toshiba Satellite C650D-008.
(To long a story to explain why.)
I had used the computer for a Linux O/S.
Now I want to load a retail -off the self-  version of Windows 7 I purchased.
If possible I would like a link to a web-site were I can download a boot disc and drivers for free.
(preferably without the bells and whistles, media etc. )
I have very poor bandwidth here so a bittorrent might be the best bet, along with hash code numbers.
The aforementioned machine is a Canadian Market model, and there does not seem to be a source
for drivers from Toshiba Canada's download site. (The Toshiba model I have is not shown on other
Toshiba download sites.)    ......... Thanks Tom.  ROC

Best to order the recovery discs by calling 800-663-0378.  You can upgrade Home Premium in just minutes this way.
Upgrade to another edition of Windows 7 by using Windows Anytime Upgrade
You'll find all the downloads for that model here. If you insist upon installing a retail version of Windows, don't be surprised when you have difficulty getting things to work right.

I am looking for recovery disc for Toshiba Satellite L355-S7811 how on earth can I get it?

  • Toshiba Satellite C650D will not recover

after getting frustrated with a continously slower computer and being unable to install all the "free" stuff that comes with one of the free malware programs, we tried doing the system recovery by holding down zero while turning on the computer, and all we get now, every time we turn it on, is a message:
    Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 083)
For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller x2.02.2.7(11/02/10)
    Check cable connection!
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
The computer did not come with a DVD, and we don't have backup.  Checked BIOS and it is set to boot to the hard drive (HDD/SSD).  tried taking out the battery and discharging by holding down the power button.  all still the same result.  Does this mean something is loose?  Or that the hard drive is bad and that it is time to get a new computer since we don't have the re-install disk for Windows or the all the hardware drivers?  Thank you.

Hi! You can down load this freeware program fom seatools dos. If it finds your HD is ok ,then you can order the recovery discs from Toshiba, This is a ISO file and will need to be burned to a CD. It is a bootable CD and will run if even if you don't have a working OS.

  • Can't create the recovery discs for Toshiba Satellite C55-A5387 Laptop

Hello, I just got my Toshiba Satellite with Windows 8 and have barely used it. One of the first things I did was go to the TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator to make recovery discs but I get error messages when burning the DVDs.
Toward the end of burning the DVD I see this:
"Failed to read the following file.
     D:\ZZimages\ZZimages\install25.swm
    (error Code: 02014F-20-0000000)"
Or this slightly different error messages:
"Failed to read the following file.
     D:\ZZimages\ZZimages\install16.swm
    (error Code: 02014F-20-0000000)"
    Lost

If the problem is the recovery partition on your hard drive instead of the DVD's you will have to call Tech support 1-800-457-7777 , Call while you still have 90 days free tech support.

  • Do I need Vista boot discs for a new hard disc if I am installing 7?

I am trying to install a new hard disc on an old laptop.  The laptop is an Hp pavillion dv 6700 with vista.  I want to install an WD SATA hard disc (the original is going bad).  I do not have the Vista boot discs but I do have a new Windows 7 Ultimate disc.  I tried to install and all it says is "operating system not found".  Do I need the vista boot discs? Do I need to update the bios?  I just don't understand why it will not work.  I am a novice in computers but really don't want to keep pouring money in an old laptop by taking it to a pro and spending a couple hundred bucks just to do this.  I have already spent enough...Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Sorry about the oversight.
It shouldn't matter what bootable disk you throw at it, it should boot.
Doesn't sound like anything will work since you have tried all avenues.
The problem your notebook seems to be having is the only device it will boot from is the hard drive, and since nothing is on it, you get the error.
The only other thing I can think of is to do a hard reset of the notebook.
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=...
There is only a windows-based flash file so you can't do a BIOS update with no OS installed, and you can only flash the BIOS in Vista or you will brick the notebook.

  • Toshiba Satellite C650D-00D

Hi my niece has a Toshiba Sattelite c650d-00d and it will not turn on. She has purchased a new adapter. She has removed and reinserted the battery. She has tried starting the computer while it is plugged in with no battery. She did a hard reset on it and it went on for a few seconds then off again. Do you have any recommendations?

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region. I believe your laptop is from Toshiba Canada.

  • Dead hard disc drive in Satellite 1415-s115 and wonder if any replacement is possible

The subject says it.    The computer can be turned on but never will start.  I suspect hard disc is no longer any good.  Is this replaceable?  If yes, could this laptop satellite 1415-s115 which used Windows XP with a 30 GB hard drive use a different operating system?  Would this machine now be useless or worthless?   (Bought new in year 2003).

    Hi
The answer to your HD question is probably "yes", you can replace the HDD (EIDE ATA-5 type) which may fix your boot issue but the main limiting factors regarding any OS upgrade (ie, Win 7?, etc) would be your existing hardware and memory capacity.
If I read your PC's specs right, memory is limited to 512 Gb RAM.
For example, here's the minimum system requirements for Windows 7:
    1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
    1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
I might keep the PC for a Linux hobby machine.  For example, the min requirements for Linux "Mint" are
    x86 processor (32-bit) or x64 processor (64-bit)
512 Mb RAM (1 Gb recommended)
    10 Gb disk space
    DVD or USB support
Linux can come in handy for accessing Windows file systems that may not be accessable on a Windows machine with issues that can prevent that access.  Additionally, since it's a Laptop PC, it would be easy to store vs an older Desktop PC tower.
If your Optical Drive is working in your PC, that can come in handy for booting other Linux platforms and perhaps other boot media, ie "rescue" media, etc.

  • Frozen, need to open disc drive, help

my eMac G4 is frozen. I need to reload insert my software install and restore discs 10.3.3 1 and 2 and 10.4 and 10.4.4 but I don't know how to open the drive tray. The screen is frozen. What do I do? I've heard about using a paper clip but I don't see where to put it in. Please help.

    Hi, pete and Thomas —
    Welcome to Apple Discussions, pete.
Pete, I'm having some trouble discerning the specifics of your situation. There seem to be issue(s) with (1) how to deal with system unresponsiveness (screen/mouse "frozen"); (2) how to open the optical drive's door/tray; &/or (3) how to troubleshoot and address system problems. It'd help if you could clarify things.
For now, I'll try to restate &/or supplement Thomas' very sound advice a bit in each area.
      (1) System Unresponsiveness. As Thomas has said, the normal progression in this type situation is:
        (a) Unplug and re-plug your mouse and keyboard to make sure they're connected.
        (b) Try to ("soft") force-quit applications, using ⌘–option-Esc. If this doesn't work, try to ("soft") restart using ⌘–control–power key (if your keyboard is so equipped).
        (c) ("Hard") Force-quit to shutdown your Mac by pressing the power key for about 5 seconds. Note that this isn't recommended — because any interruption in writing to disk can create disk directory corruption problems — but sometimes there's no alternative.
        (d) Wait a few moments, then restart using the power button. Note that, in some situations, actually unplugging your Mac and waiting several minutes may be beneficial.
        (e) See (2) below for how to open the optical tray during startup. If you have start-up problems ("stuck" at blue screen, gray screen, etc.), please post back and describe in detail everything you observe. KnowledgeBase Articles 106464 and 106805 may help you to begin troubleshooting these problems — but we'll be happy to try and help with this.
      (2) If the optical drive door/tray is "stuck" in closed position.
        (a) Holding your mouse down during startup will open the optical-drive tray — as Thomas explained. Be sure to hold the mouse down from when startup is initiated until the drawer opens.
        (b) Is there a disc in your optical drive already? In the unusual circumstance when there's a disc stuck inside the drive, you'd have to mechanically open the drive door and tray. Very carefully. First, pry open the door with your fingernail. Then, you'll see a small hole below the tray on its left side. Inserting a straightened, large-size paper clip perpendicularly, you may be able to open the tray — but be careful as you probe for the release.
I've done this (the paper-clip method) with previous Macs I've owned, but haven't had any success with my eMac, probably because the door and hole position create a difficult angle. (Only needed to do it once.) In that instance, I was able to actually grasp the edge of the tray and pull gently until it began to open.
      (3) Troubleshooting System Problem? Depending on your response to (1)(e) above, I doubt it'd be helpful to pursue start-up problems further at the moment — because it's not clear that this is part of your frustration.
However, your comment that you "need to reload insert my software install and restore discs 10.3.3 1 and 2 and 10.4 and 10.4.4" is confusing, because I don't understand why you'd choose to reinstall OS X 10.x at this point, based on what you've described. The first thing I would recommend — once you've accomplished shutdown, restart, and opening the optical drive to insert your install disc — is to C-boot and run Disk First Aid from Disk Utility (access via the Utilities menu) to "repair disk" — then evaluate/post back your results. Please also note your HD's S.M.A.R.T. status that's listed in the lower right-hand corner of the Disk Utility dialogue box.
As I said at the outset, I'm probably confused about your specific issue(s) — so I hope you'll forgive what's redundant or extraneous in this reply. I'm hoping that something is "on-target," and thus helpful. If not, please post back...
    Regards,
    Dean

  • Replaced hard drive: Toshiba Satellite L505 -still getting error message

Replaced the hard drive but still getting this message:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
No boot able device --insert boot disk and press any key
Anybody have any suggestions as to why I'm still getting this. I don't have a boot disk - none came with my laptop.

    The model is Satellite L505D-GS600
However I think I figured out the problem (one of those DUH moments).
For the initial error, I had problems with my hard drive. I was told it was mechanical and but the hard drive was not corrupt. I was hoping to recover my files. In any event, I did purchase another hard drive and realized after posting the question that I needed the recovery disk in order for it to work. I don't have this disk so I've got to order one. However, if I'm wrong please let me know. Also, I have not made any changes other than the new hard drive. Thank you for your reply.

  • [MB Air 2013] Windows 8 says I need a Boot Camp driver update, but download is unsupported

    Hi all,
I'm on a brand new 2013 MB Air running Windows 8 64 bit with Boot Camp.
Windows is running fine, but I just recently noticed that I had a message telling me I had a driver missing and needed to update Boot Camp.
Now, this computer is less than 1 week old, so I checked my Boot Camp verison first and it does say that I'm running Boot Camp 5.
Just to compare the drivers, I downloaded the suggested update (from Apple, Boot Camp 5.0.5033) and put it on an extra USB drive.
When I compared the drivers, the new download did contain significantly more drivers for various hardware(most of which I don't have), so I tried to run it from the USB drive.
At that point I got the "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model error".
I'm running Windows 8 64 bit, so I don't see why BCx64 is unsupported, and I'd really like to get the "driver update needed" message resolved.
Am I being directed to the wrong dowload? Do I even need this one?
Should I be running an update through OS X even though the message is coming from Windows 8?
Any ideas on how to proceed would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

The actual answer is if you look at the download page at the bottom, you will see a link for supported devices.  You will notice that the Macbook Air 2013 is NOT listed.
This upgrade does not apply for the newer MAcBook Air.  The current driver set you have is correct.  No upgrade is necessary.  It is only for the older Macbook Airs.
    Hope this helps.
