Hello. My Powerbook is about ready to be turned in for an upgrade. Of course, before I could back up all of my data for the transfer, my power cord tip broke off in the charger. You could of course try to find someone with this computer model (or at least someone who has a suitable and working power adapter). An Apple User Group in your area?
Otherwise, it is possible to remove the internal hard drive. The drive can then be installed into an appropriate external (typically, USB 2.0) enclosure (there are also "caseless" USB 2.0 adapters for various hard drive types). Once this has been done, you could connect the now external drive to a newer Mac in order to perform file transfers.

I HATE ATT and I hate paying for their DSL line into my office. I run a non-profit therapy center in Los Angeles for Alzheimers and ATT charges me as a business so I pay through the nose. Therefore I'm looking into dropping the ATT DSL line and going instead with a Wifi card into my laptop to get an internet connection from the cyber heavens.
Which company (not ATT please) do you think is best to provide a reliable service in West LA with speeds at least equal to DSL and how much do you think it will cost?

Oh yes, Skype alone uses a significant amount of data before adding your video conference usage. Skype uses a peer to peer (P2P) network design to handle it's calls, so your computer and connection are helping the network by passing calls on. This means even when you are not making a call (audio only, instant messaging, or video conference) you are still using your bandwidth. For most cable and DSL users with effectively if not actually unlimited usage, this is trivial. For a cellular based user, this has a huge impact.
What do you call 'expensive' in terms of just your internet connection? DSL is usually the more affordable connection type in terms of raw cost. Cable usually delivers more total speed per dollar, but normally requires a higher minimum service cost. You may have more than one DSL and/or cable provider available in your area, so shopping around is a good idea.

Need a Captivate Guru

My organization is seeking a real expert with Captivate to
work on a consultative basis to assess an elearning project that we
are attempting to implement with this software. While in
development it became clear to us that Captivate was not going to
be able to provide the functionality needed to complete it using
the instructional design methodology we are familiar with. We need
someone who can honestly assess (a) whether it is possible or not
to do what we are trying to do with Captivate (and if so, provide a
solution), or (b) if that is not the case, whether what we are
doing can be accomplished in Captivate using a different approach
(and if so, what approach). The ideal person would be highly
conversant with Captivate as well as a fairly competent
instructional designer.
We would appreciate a referral to someone who can provide
this service for us if you know someone.

Thank you for responding to my post on the Captivate
eLearning forum. I tried to respond directly, but your email
address did not seem to be accessible.
As stated in my post, we are trying to get an honest
assessment on whether Captivate can be used for an elearning
project. Considering that we've already made a substantial
investment in software licenses and training for this product, it
seems a little late for us to be asking this question now. However,
once we began the project in earnest it became clear that the
course design approach that we followed with implementing courses
with our proprietary elearning system isn’t going to work
with Captivate in light of previously unrealized limitations to
that software.
If the only thing that needs to be changed is our approach,
and we can accomplish the same instructional goals in a different
manner, then we would like to continue using Captivate. However, if
what we are trying to do is too ambitious for that product,
I’d rather learn that sooner rather than later. That’s
not to say we wouldn’t continue using it – just that we
would use it for more limited projects (such as the tutorials and
demos we’ve used it primarily for to date). If that is the
case, a referral to a more appropriate product would be helpful.
So, in order to answer these questions I’d like to know
how you would like to proceed. Specifically (1) would you approach
such a project on a flat-fee basis or time and materials (and if
so, your rates); (2) would you be able to work on this remotely or
would it be better for you to come to our site; and (3) what is
your availability? One last consideration, the project that this is
related to is about six-months late. We are most anxious to perform
this assessment as expeditiously as possible.

They will be backed up only until you backup again. iCloud is not a storage drive in the sky, it is a backup service only. If you delete the photos and videos from the camera roll, and then you backup the iPad with iCloud, you will overwrite that backup and the photos will be gone.
Import the photos to your computer if they are that important to you. iCloud is for backup only, not a storage place that you can download your photos from again once you overwrite that backup.

It would help to have more details about when your phone loses wi-fi or bluetooth.
When an iPhone locks itself it turns Wi-fi off. I haven't had any problems with bluetooth turning off.
You might try restarting the phone. Double tap the home button to open the multitasking drawer, tap and hold on any icon in the drawer until the icons start to jiggle, tap the X that appears on the upper corner of each icon to shut them all down. Press the Home button to close the drawer. Then hold the sleep/wake button down and wait for the Slide to Power Off slider appears. Slide it and wait for the phone to shut down. Wait a few seconds and then press and hold the sleep/wake button again until the Apple logo appears and the phone restarts.
You can also reset your network settings, go to Settings => General => Reset Network Settings. You will have to reconnect and enter passwords for any wi-fi networks that you normally connect to after you do this.
Let us know if this doesn't help.

Does Captivate 7/8 support *Dynamic* Streaming Video for synchronized Multi-Slide videos?

I'm experimenting with inserting Streaming Video into Captivate Lessons. I've set up an Adobe Media Server (AMS) to stream the video.
When inserting Multi-Slide Synchronized video, it's not clear whether/how I can insert a Dynamic Streaming Video link in a synchronized Multi-Slide Video.
(The Dynamic videos can switch between videos of varying quality based on the user's available bandwidth.)
I think you're supposed use a URL that points to a manifest file (.F4M), which catalogs the videos of varying bitrates. However, I can't seem to get it to work in Captivate and Adobe is a little vague on how/if one references the manifest file. (i.e. I can't find any examples.)
So, does Captivate support dynamic streaming video?
If not, which is more robust in Captivate? HTTP progressive download or regular (non-Dynamic) RTMP Streaming Video?

We did some more tests/checking-around and have convinced ourselves that the URL needs to point to the manifest file in order for Dynamic Media Streaming to work.
When we examined the Adobe Media Server sample web page (below), we found buttons to select different media sources.
The 'Multiple Bitrate' button under RTMP Dynamic Streaming Sample is mapped to the URL of an F4M (manifest) file.
The 'Single Bitrate' button is mapped to an individual mp4 file.
We also found more clues in the FlowPlayer RTMP F4M page.
Also, I'm guessing that Captivate can't handle adaptive bitrate streaming from non-RTMP sources based on the menu options. (See screen capture below)
If the menu above is correct, the first choice is the opposite of streaming media, because it says 'Progressive Download'. (Progressive download caches the video file on the client machine.)
The next one is for private Adobe Media Streaming and the third is for 3rd-party Adobe Media Streaming services.
So, I'm pretty much convinced that it's not supported.

The reason I am interested in capturing the user answers in Submit All situation is that I know after I published the test using SCORM 2004, all the user responses were captured in "cmi.suspend_data" because my test can resume the test to the last exit question in the middle. However, when I looked at the suspend data value, I have a hard time to understand the pattern and pick out the meaningful user question responses data. I really need help from you to understand how the suspend data value was constructed and how to parse this data. Another area I thought it's easy to get the user question responses data is the interaction records, but I always got only one question (the last randomly sampled question) interaction record. See the following generated XML SCORM 2004 4th edition data. Could you help me figure out how to interpret the following suspend data to get the users responses to each test question? No Data in Downtown Los Angeles

For the last 6 months or so, I have been experiencing 0 data in Downtown Los Angeles. Specifically on 9th and Grand. I have reported it three times and have not heard of any solution yet. I did my own researching here in our building and I found out that 8 other people at my work are experiencing low to zero data in our bldg. My supervisor and Director both reported the same issue, and we have not heard of anything yet. I have been paying the same amount when I can't even receive any imessages, send any imessages, emails, or even log in into anything from my phone. They should at least cut me some slack on the bill! I work 9-7:30 weekly, and no data from 9-7:30! Has anyone else experience this in the downtown los angeles area? SOLUTION PLEASE!!!!

Mac iOS version 10.5.8 and iTunes on Mac is 10.6.1. iPad and iPhone version is 6.0(10A403). When I check for updates on the Mac book pro it says software versions are up to date.
When I check for iTunes version 10.6.3 it looks like it is for snow leopard operating system which I am not on. How to I get my devices to sync with computer. Everything worked prior to iOS 6 upgrade on remote devices.

iTunes 10.6.3 (i.e. latest update - which hasn't had an issues apart from syncing).
I tried 3 different USB sync cables. Still not syncing.
Do I really have to update my Mac OS to 10.6.8 in order to sync my phone ? I thought as long as you have iTunes 10.6.3 you're ok...

I need the find bar to stop matching smart quotes for straight ones.

Some recent update of Firefox caused the find bar to match smart quotes (“ and ”) for the straight quote ("). Additionally, it now matches smart single quotes and apostrophes (‘ and ’) for the straight single quote (').
I need to disable this matching so that a search for a straight quote will only yield a straight quote result. Also, if any other character matching was added, I'd like to disable that too. I need exact results.

Hi Chuck, this could be coincident with the launch of the "per-tab" find bar with its new UI design. However, I didn't see a specific but for the change in the tracking system (Bugzilla).
If this is a major pain point for you, to help track it down, could you do a comparison between Firefox 24 and Firefox 25? You can download the Portable builds of old versions of Firefox and run them without disturbing your main installation of Firefox. (However, you might not be able to run more than one at a time.) Those two would be here:
