Need a faster GPU for powermac G5 QuadCore with PCI Express

Greez,
i want to expanding my G5 QuadCore (PCI Express) with a Geforce 7800GT or GTX
have someone an experiance with this videocards ?
and is the new 7900 GT compatibel ?
I need a fast GPU for animation, but the GeForce Quatro 4500 is much expensive !
Thanks from Germany TiMovie

Reginald,
Welcome and you choose well, except in your video card. The 6600 is hopeless in Aperture if your running a medium-large library.
Apple seems to run a monopoly on the video card side. Each card needs Apple specific firmware on it to work. So no PC cards don't work without modifications. Speaking of which some people apparently figured this out. Check this and the Aperture forums for more detail of a possible 3rd party option.

  • Do I need a screen protector for my New iPad with retina display?

I have a screen protector on my new iPad with retina display, but does this effect the screen display and do I really need a screen protector on?

So I just got my first ever iPad (4th gen) about 4 days ago. I am waitng on a case and have been looking into a screen protector, debating this same question on quality. I have a 3 year old and he is dying to play with it. In the meantime I cannot stress how careful I have been, as Im sure you all know what Im talking about.  Last night I was using it on my lap and my shirt tugged it off, causing me to grab it before it fell. Of course the longest, sharpest nail, caught it for me. Obviously I freak out and hurry to clean the screen to see for damage. I see there is a huge line where my nail caught it, but upon cleaning was no longer there. This nail was sharper than any key I own! So I guess what im going to do is get a complete cover for use with my 3 year old and just a basic one when I use it. Good job apple!

  • Need driver officejet v40 for new laptop, hp with windows 7 64 bit os.

new hp laptop...windows 7 64 bit os. need driver for old hp officejet v40 printer.

T2, you don't mention how much system memory that you have installed.  Windows 7 will run best with 3GB of memory.  Also, integrated memory is always lacking in any games.  The 128MB is not allocated at one time.  It is only used as needed.  If you want to play games, you should upgrade your memory and upgrade to a standalone video card.  I don't believe that a driver update will make any difference.

  • Export to DV needed to keep sound for AVI files burned with iDVD

I have recently found out that in order to have sound throughout the DVDs that I burn, I must first convert AVI files to DV. This however distorts wide screen video files, thus I am wondering one of two things; the first being if I can convert the files to another type that will not distort the picture and two if there is a way to convert AVI files to DV without changing the picture at all.

I am having the same problem. But it's even weirder. Any .avi file I created using my Flip Ultra camera will play with sound. One or two .avi movies I've d/l'd from the 'net will also play with sound. The remainder will not play with sound on QT (7.5). I have VLC, Real and DivX Player loaded, and all .avi files play on those players with sound, no problem.
Now, my Library/Components folder is empty. My Library/QuickTime folder has the following:
    3ivxVideoCodec.component
    AC3MovieImport.component
    AC3MovieImport.component
    CanonMJPEGAVI.component
    CanonText.component
    Flip4Mac WMV Advanced.component

    XVid_Codec 1.0 alpha.component
    ZyGoAudioS.component
    ZyGoMJ2K.component
    ZyGoTimeCode.component
I followed the instructions on this page, but it still isn't working:

  • UnsatisfiedLinkError for JNI DLL compiled with vs2008 express

I am trying to create a JNI DLL using Visual Studio 2008 Express.
I have read several places where -MD causes JNI problems but from what I've read, I need this option to create the DLL properly.
The DLL does get built cleanly and I have created a simple C application (obviously not calling the JNI functions themselves but the other functions that are in the DLL). This application runs with no problems.
As soon as I try to use the DLL with JNI, I get an UnsatisfiedLinkError: Can't find dependent libraries.
I have used Dependency Walker on the C application I created and it finds no errors; however, if I run it on the DLL itself, it does report an error trying to find msvcr90.dll which is in the winsxs directory under c:\windows so I assume this is the problem dependency.
I am running this on the same computer that has Visual Studio 2008 Express SP1 installed. This is a Windows XP Service Pack 3 computer running JDK 1.6.0_14.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Right or wrong, I include some library files into my link statement (it's the only way I could find to clear up your question). I link in some standard window libraries as well as some of my own DLL whose functions are used by this DLL. I use a makefile to build my code.

  • Setup wireless network for mac and pc with Airport Express?

    Mac Mini/OSX/10.8.2/Airport Express
    Question,
I have my AIrPort Express setup for my Mac Mini and I have dell computer that I want to share the wireless network. Is it possible to setup a wireless network with my mini and the pc using only the AirPort Express? Is the Airport Express a wireless router?
    Thanks,

If your Mac Mini is connecting to the Express using wireless, then this confirms that the device is working correctly.
The Express is a wireless router that can support up to 10 wireless connections, so your Dell computer should be able to connect assuming that its wireless card is working correctly, and the Dell indentifies the network and enters the correct wireless network password.
If you are having difficulty with the Dell PC connecting, this Windows troubleshooting document might help:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/network-connection-problem-help#netwo rk-problems=windows-8&v1h=win8tab1&v2h=win7tab1&v3h=winvistatab1&v4h=winxptab1

  • Need to create a Default Value or WorkFlow with Time Expressions

There are numerous times where our people's targets are measured by week. Our weeks run from Monday through Sunday so we say "week ending" is on Sunday night at midnight. Each rep puts in calls, proposals, etc. but are measured on each weeks targets.
I was able to create an expression in analytics that would take the Created Date and look ahead to find that week's Sunday. I need to return that date and save it on the record itself to speed up retrieval as well as limit how many places/reports I need to perform this very common calculation. This will also allow the user to quick search their activities over a given week since it will be stored in an indexed date field.
Example: If today was Thursday 5/12/2011 then I would want the function to return 5/15/2011.
Here is how I solved it in Anaytics on a report which just looks at the DAYOFWEEK (1-7) to determine if it is a mon-sun and then figures out how many days to add to get me to the next Sunday.
    TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_DAY, (8 - CASE WHEN DAYOFWEEK(CAST(Activity."Created Date" AS DATE)) = 1 THEN 8 ELSE DAYOFWEEK(CAST(Activity."Created Date" AS DATE)) END),CAST(Activity."Created Date" AS DATE))
How do I modify this so I can do the same thing with Expression Builder?

I tried the above expression and it wasn't getting me a guaranteed result. The date that I'm trying to convert is the actual "CREATED DATE" timestamp field. In some cases I was getting the correct date and in others I was getting one day less which breaks the calculations.
What I may not understand is how this will work and if time zones come into play at all. I need it to set the time to the Sunday MM/DD/YYYY 12:00 AM timestamp no matter what timezone they are in? I'm not sure if all of the reps even have their time zones set correctly. In some cases the date is correct but the time is set to 1:00AM/2:00AM/etc.
It may just be the time zones but I tried a different function as well just in case:
    ToChar([<CreatedDate>] + (6 - IIf(1.0 * IfNull(Mid(1.0 * JulianDay([<CreatedDate>])/7, 8, 1), "0") <=2, 1.0 * IfNull(Mid(1.0 * JulianDay([<CreatedDate>])/7, 8, 1), "0") , IIf(1.0 * IfNull(Mid(1.0 * JulianDay([<CreatedDate>])/7, 8, 1), "0") = 4, 3, IIf(1.0 * IfNull(Mid(1.0 * JulianDay([<CreatedDate>])/7, 8, 1), "0") = 5, 4, IIf(1.0 * IfNull(Mid(1.0 * JulianDay([<CreatedDate>])/7, 8, 1), "0") = 7, 5, IIf(1.0 * IfNull(Mid(1.0 * JulianDay([<CreatedDate>])/7, 8, 1), "0") = 8, 6,-99)))))),"MM/DD/YYYY")
Basically (today + the number of days until Sunday) truncated to MM/DD/YYYY format which hopefully gets me a MM/DD/YYYY 12:00 AM format.

  • Cannot use DSL for wireless & phone simultaneously with Airport Express

Hello, I've just moved and switched to DSL from cable modem.
    SBC DSL
One phone jack with the supplied filter on it allowing connection to the phone and supplied wired router
They provided a CD that configured the connection for me. In their ethernet connection it is not PPOE. Just DHCP. When I connect the laptop directly to the router via ethernet, I am able to surf and talk on the phone. When i connect the router to the Airport express and connect wirelessly, I can use either the phone or the internet. When I make a phone call the wireless drops.
Does anyone have any idea as to why this happens?
    Thanks,
    Neobe

    It's a 2.4 GHz phone
    This is likely your problem.
2.4GHz phones are notorious for interfering with WiFi networks, as they share the same frequency range.
This is a very common problem.
    I would suggest switching to a 900Mhz, or a 5.8GHz cordless phone.

  • Need advice on negating a whole string line with regular expression

    Hi All,
I am not able to ignore / get rid of the following line even though my Java 6 (Windows XP) String Pattern matching has not taken cater for it:
    *% Cleared: 61%*
Below is the existing Java String Pattern matching in the simple program:
    Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("(^.*[A-Z][a-z]*){1,2} \\d{0,4}/?\\d{0,4} ([A-Z][a-z]*){1,2} St|Rd|Av|Sq|Cl|Pl|Cr|Gr|Dr|Hwy|Pde|Wy|La \\d br [h|u|t] \\$\\d+,\\d+|\\$\\d*\\,\\d+,\\d+ ([A-Z][a-z]*){1,}.*$");This pattern is working for valid strings.
The following pattern has included "^(?!.*\.\.).*$" into the existing one but had no luck still:
    Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("^(?!.*\.\.).*$|((^.*[A-Z][a-z]*){1,2} \\d{0,4}/?\\d{0,4} ([A-Z][a-z]*){1,2} St|Rd|Av|Sq|Cl|Pl|Cr|Gr|Dr|Hwy|Pde|Wy|La \\d br [h|u|t] \\$\\d+,\\d+|\\$\\d*\\,\\d+,\\d+ ([A-Z][a-z]*){1,}.*$)");This picked up other rubbish including "*% Cleared: 61%*".
I am looking for a single regular expression that applies to the whole line.
I am quite new to regular expression but has read through Regular Expressions Cookbook (Oreilly - 2009) and is still not familiar with advance functions such as lookahead / lookbehind...
    Your assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Hi Winston,
I am still digesting the material from the regular expression book and will take sometime to become proficient with it.
It seems that using groupCount() to eliminate the unwanted text does not work in this case, since all the lines returned the same value. Ie 3 posted earlier. This may be because the patterns are complex and only a few were grouped together. Otherwise, could you provide an example using the string posted as opposed to a hyperthetic one. In the meantime, at least one solution have been found by defining an additional special pattern “\\A[^%].*\\Z”, before combining / intersecting both existing and the new special pattern to get the best of both world. Another approach that should also work is to evaluate the size of String.split() and only accept those lines with a minimum number of tokens.
Anyhow, I have come a crossed another minor stumbling block in the mean time with the following line, where some hidden characters is preventing the existing pattern from reading it:
    o;?Mervan Bay 40 Boyde St 7 br t $250,000 X West Park AE
Below is the existing regular expression that works for other lines with the same pattern but not for special hidden characters such as “o;?”:
\\A([A-Z][a-z]*){1,2} [0-9]{0,4}/?[0-9]{0,4}-?[0-9]{0,4} ([A-Z][a-z]*){1,2} St|Rd|Av|Sq|Cl|Pl|Cr|Gr|Dr|Hwy|Pde|Wy|La [0-9] br [h|u|t] \\$\\d+,\\d+|\\$\\d*\\,\\d+,\\d+ ([A-Z][a-z]*){1,}\\ZIs it possible to come up with a regular expression to ignore them so that this line could be picked up? Would also like to know whether I could combine both the special pattern “\\A[^%].*\\Z” with existing one as opposed to using 2 separate patterns altogether?
    Many thanks,
    Jack

  • Need help with PCI Express X-Fi Xtreme Audio - Vista

Hi, bought this card pci exprss x-fi xtreme audio and installed, had a lot of problems in vista 64. Using a logitech z5500 5. soundsystem and first tried using the optical spdif to get DTS etc working but to no joy... Started using the 3.5 kables but nothing there either. And I cant find options to set the treble and base? the sound is really medioker as it is now.
Using the latest drivers for the card issued in may 08, latest alchemy and console files. what to do?
    Dave?

    To Collipa and Dudeface:
If you installed the support pack for the card but still have driver problems, have you used windowsudpate under Windows 7? Creative submitted a basic driver for the card that shows up in driver options under Windows Update. If you can let Windows Update install that driver, then you can update AFTER rebooting with the new one.
If that windowsupdate did not work, try this:
Download the newest driver for your card. Then, if you already have winace, winzip, winrar or even the free 7Zip, then you can right click that Creative executable file and then choose to........extract to......and do so to a temporary folder on your desktop or say, c:\Creative driver.
Then go to device manager and sound video and game controllers, and to your problem sound card, click driver, and update driver and browse my computer for software, and "let me pick"? and "have disk" and then browse to.......
    C:\Creative driver\Install\wdm
Whereever you downlaoded the file to, the important directory is the INSTALL\WDM and choose OK and it should show Creative X-FI. Let it copy files, and it does take awhile, and then reboot and see if your sound card works.
here is the newest driver for your card:

I'm editing a sports video, and would like to create an oval to place around the player in question so as to draw the viewer's eye to him. The oval will appear during a still frame, so I don't need it to be animated.
I know this should be fairly simple, but I'm stumped.
I'm using Premiere Pro CS4. Thank you.

Yes, Titler makes many things easy. Some just think of it for text, but it has some pretty neat Shapes too.
I'll usually open it up first, and if needed go to Photoshop for more intricate work, with maybe some preliminary work in Illustrator.
I also posted a screen-cap of the Titler panel, so you can see the particular Attributes that I used.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] I normally work with Show Video checked, but also know that I can fine-tune with Effects>Motion. You can also do work with other Effects, like Gaussian Blur, if needed. This is applied to the Title.

  • Need PCI Express Firewire

I did a search here, and on Google. The cheapest card found was $55, and that had only 2 ports. I'm not a cheapscate, but this is my first purchase for my new G5 and the last FW card I bought for my G4 was $22. Is express always that much more? I definitely need it, because I seemed to have gotten one of the Dual 2G with a bad FW port. I did all the tests and the only thing Apple will do is take the thing apart, and I'd rather not have them do that for one port.

    Hi Claude;
If Apple is going to do this under warrenty, then I would strongly suggest that you allow them to do it. Personally, I think that not allowing them to fix the problem now might end costing you in the long run.
To answer your question, yes PCI Express cards are generally more expensive. It appears this is true for two reason. First PCI Express is new and new always costs more. The second reason is that generally PCI Express card have greater performance then either PCI or PCI-X.

  • Maybe too much for me sli/plat neo 4 no pst with pci e

My stats are in my sig.  Maybe too much for me but I been fighting for 3 weeks and 2 days.  Whenever my winfast is in pci-e it throws memory error.  Take it out and throw in a 8mb pci card into another slot works fine.  I have tried diffrent powersupplies and memory.  Was told the board was ok but did not see it for myself.  Did see the card work .   I have removed from case and sli switch checked , backplate coolers, I even did a cartwheel still no post with pci-express.  Any ideas
    this is on a winchester 3500 +

Then do the following: enter in BIOS and press Shift+F2 and after Alt+F3 then go to the Cell Menu and you will see one option called NV/ATI SpeedUp set it to disable save the BIOS and shutdown remove the PCI card and put your PCI-E card in and start the comp, see if it starts.
If not then you have an incompatible PCI-E card, if you are sure that the card is not faulty.
    Be well....

but will that replace the use of using up data? (wifi & 3G)
It sounds as if you don't really understand what "using data" means. Data is not something different from WiFi and 3G, it's something sent over WiFi and 3G. Think of data as water and WiFi and 3G as types of pipes. Some apps need to send and receive data to work. That data can be sent or received in different ways. It can be sent over WiFi or 3G. Both official iPhone carriers in the U.S. have metered data plans. It's sounds as if you're talking about AT&T's 200 mb data plan. WiFi is not provided by your cellular carrier. You can have WiFi from your Internet Service Provider at home or you can access free WiFi at places like McDonalds or Starbucks or paid WiFi at places like airports.
If you have WiFi turned on on your phone and WiFi is available, the phone will default to WiFi. WiFi is faster than 3G and generally not metered, and is sometimes even free. If you are out of range of WiFi, you would be using 3G to send and receive your data. With a metered plan, you need to keep an eye on how much you are using because if you go over your allowance, you will be charged additional fees.
