Need a file converted from InD CS5 to InD CS4...

Had someone do some work for me and their source file came as a CS5 InDesign version 7 file (I think)... which I cannot open in CS4 InD version 6.  Is there such as thing as file converter of some kind or do I need to have them or someone else open it in CS5 and save it in some compatible format?

Yes (well, to the 2nd part of your question).
Ask someone who has a CS5 to save it as IDML, or (always an option!) download the fully functional trial of CS5, and you have about 30 days to do it yourself.

  • I was informed i need to purchase standard 11 or standard 12 (?) in order to make word files converted from pdf editable. how do i do this?

i was informed i need to purchase standard 11 or standard 12 from adobe in order to make files converted from pdf to word using the recently bought and installed adobe pdf exporter file. how/where do i do this?

Currently the Acrobat version is "XI" (no "12").
    With Acrobat XI installed:
"File - Save As Other"  --- from here you pick the supported file format for the export.
If a PDF has content that is the output of a scanner then that output (as is the case for All scanners' output) is a picture of text and not real text.
During an export all that can be processed is the picture. As a picture of text is not text it is understandable why Word (or other word processors) cannot edit the content.
So, for such, prior to export run Acrobat's OCR and save.
The export will be of the OCR content.
Do expect to do clean of the text, spelling, punctuation, layout etc.
This may be minor. This may be major. But, there will be some.
Adobe as some online subscription services that can take a "proper" PDF (NOT all are eh) and export to supported file formats.
Two are "ExportPDF" and "PDF Pack".
    Be well...

  • Why will CS4 not open DNG files converted from Olympus E-M1 raw files?

For several years I have been able to use the DNG Converter to convert .ORF raw files from my Olympus E-M1 and then open them for processing in CS4. Suddenly CS4 quit recognizing these DNG files saying "Photoshop could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"
I have not changed any preferences. I'm using E-M1 v3.0, DNG Converter v8.3.0.141 on a Mac. I have deleted DNG converter several times, even reinstalled an earlier version but nothing changes.
However, CS4 will open DNG files converted from Pentax raw .PEF files from my K-5. Weird. It's the Olympus raw DNG conversions that won't open.
I can view the DNG converted files in question in Mac's Preview just fine but not CS4. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Be sure the DNG Converter's compatibility is set to provide support for your version of ACR:

  • I have MTS files imported from a Canon HD cam. They import into I movie and I see them in the Finder folders and they preview fine. I have a new project and some of the clips are freezing and some audio is now gone? Do i need a file converter and convert

I have MTS video files that import from a Canon Vixia HF S20 HD camera. I imported into I Movie. They converted into MOV files and I see them in the movies folder in finder. They view fine and run through the events folder in Finder. In I Movie, I created a new project and used a "Theme". The project worked fine at first but then some clips started to freeze and some lost audio. The effected clips are the same in the project library and in the event library, meaning they are froze in both places. As I said when i view through finder the MOV files preview and work fine.  Is this inherent to MTS files using in I movie. SHould i consider using a file converter to convert to MOV files prior to importing into I movie.
I found on Apple support site info that states the MTS files can only be imported through the camera. I am developing my back up procedures and now I am faced with backing up in the original MTS files but not being able to reload if necessary into I movie. Any suggestions?

I'd like to add that after I import these clips without thumbnails, iMovie does give me an error and say that they could not be imported. No explanation as to why, though. Again, they play fine on my camera.

  • Files converted from m4a to mp3 are not displaying correctly in feed

hi; i recently produced my first show in garageband (after using a bunch of other audio apps in the past), exported to an m4a file, and converted to mp3 in itunes, but it is not showing up as an audio file in my feed.
the feed is http://feeds.feedburner.com/wellroundedradio and my blog posting on it is http://wellroundedmedia.blogspot.com
is there something you need to do when converting from m4a to mp3 in itunes to make sure the settings are all correct so it will be enclosed as an audio file? i have tested other mp3 files in the feed and they are working fine.
    thx, charlie

thanks. yes, i think that's what has been so tricky about this. i add a link to an mp3 in blogger, but feedburner doesn't add this particular show as an enclosure, so it's not updating in the feed. can't seem to find where the origin of the problem, though...is it blogger, feedburner, or the mp3 file or...?

  • .mov files converted from .mkv have no sound?

I had a .mkv file compressed from a while back and converted it to a .mov (H.264) file. There is no sound, although the video is perfect. I tried to convert another file and it did the same thing - no sound, just dead silence.
    Why is this happening?

Conversion of video can be slow on any computer, obviously older and lower end equipment will be the slowest.
.mov is a container for video, audio and other types of files, before you can carry out any conversions you need to know the format of the video and audio tracks within that container as not all conversion software will deal with all formats. Let us know more about your video and we can make suggestions for suitable software.

  • Difference between AAC and m4a files, converting from AAC to useable format

Does anyone know the difference between AAC and m4a files? iTunes has an option to use an AAC encoder to compress CD files, but this creates an m4a file not an AAC file. I just got some actual AAC files and iTunes cannot read these, is there a way to convert from AAC to a format that iTunes recognizes? Thanks

iTunes uses AAC data wrapped in an MPEG 4 container file. If you got some *.AAC files, and they're just raw AAC files, then you need to wrap them in an MPEG 4 container. The only way I know to do this is using the foobar 2000 program. You can find more information at http://www.hydrogenaudio.org and http://www.foobar2000.org

  • Artifacts in DNG files converted from NEF

On two occasions, I've encountered artifacts in my photos that I've converted from NEF (using Nikon D7000) to DNG format in Lightroom 3.6.  Is there a "fix" for this?

Yes, you're correct. It sounds perfectly feasible to keep a checksum in the database for other file types. I voted for your idea.
    Here's an interesting article: http://dpbestflow.org/data-validation/dng-validation
Currently, the only way to check a large number of DNGs is to run the free DNG converter on them, which can take a long time and requires disk space for the second copies. The Adobe SDK has a function for checking the checksums, so it sounds like a relatively easy task to write a small app that would validate an entire directory tree containing DNGs. That could be quite fast and would be a good thing to run periodically.

  • Apple ProRes HQ files (converted from HDV) will not play in Premiere Pro

I was working on a project in premier pro and finished a draft on 12/24 with no issues.  I took these file directy from their coverted state as .mov files into the PP project and edited on the timeline with no issues.  Shut down on 12/24.  Opened project today, none of the files from the HDV converted format will play correctly OR export correctly.  They are all Black video and still contain the right audio.
As a side note here, this is the same for trying to play the file in Quicktime AND in Apple's Final Cut Pro 7.
The only files affected are those that were uploaded and coverted to Apple ProRes HQ from the HDV format.
Again, this was working and functioning fine un Tuesday, now they appear black in the timeline and viewers.
Only change made to ANYTHING on my iMac is: Updated iTunes on Tuesday after I had closed the project from Premiere Pro.
    Please help!!!
    Thankyou,
    Clede

Only change made to ANYTHING on my iMac is: Updated iTunes on Tuesday after I had closed the project from Premiere Pro.
    Sounds like a clue.
Apple / Mac  updates have a history of creating issues and plenty of evidence supports that statement.
My guess its a QT version issue.

  • Coding with Vector file, Convert from PSD to AI or Start over from Scratch?

I have an App developer that is requesting an .AI file for developing an App that can be utilized on all the following Apple hardware (iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPod touch, iPad, iPad mini). He is insisting on it, because of the vector file. I have a design file that was completed in a layerd PSD. I want to know what, if any, quality is lost from converting from PSD to .AI vector file? Would it be better to have the Designers strach over from Scratch? Please Advise!
    Thanks for your help

Depends on what type of layers are in the .psd. Certain layers type can convert to vector quality (shape layers, type layers, smart objects).
You also should ask the devloper about bitmnapped effects (eg: drop shadow) and placed images, if they are ok to use.

  • Want to open Kodak Photo CD files (.PCD) in Photoshop CS5.  In CS4 i copied file "Photo CD.8BI"  from an older version into the File Format folder.  This does not work with CS5.  Any fix?

I have several old Kodak Photo CD with PCD image files.  I am now using Photoshop CS5.  Some years ago while using Photoshop CS4 I copied a file:  "Photo CD.8BI" from an older, CS2, version to the Plug-ins/File Format folder of CS4.  This does not appear to work with CS5.  Any fix?

It can be made to work, but you have to run the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5, and as I recall there's an additional DLL called pcdlib32.dll that's needed from the old installation.

  • Importing .mov files converted from DVD

    Hi
I have video which was originally shot in SD format using a Sony HDR - XR200 camera. (I need to shoot in SD format in order to be able to play back resulting DVDs in standard players) The SD footage from the camera is burned directly to DVD using a Sony DV Direct DVD recorder. I then use DVDxDV to convert clips from the DVD into .mov files. Having imported these .mov files into FCE 3.5 I get a message saying they are not optimized for FCE and should be recaptured. When I drag them onto the timeline they do show in the viewer at 29% size but I cannot see any picture on my external monitor.
Do I need FCE 4 even though I am not recording the original footage in AVCHD ? Do I need to use an Apple HD codec in the DVD to .mov conversion process?
Any advice appreciated - many thanks

    Hi Tom
    Converted clips are;
    Vid rate 25fps
    Frame size 720 x 576
    Compressor DV PAL
    Data rate 3.6 MB/sec
    Pixel aspect PAL-CCIR 601
Forgive my ignorance but where do I get the item properties for the sequence I am editing into?

    Hi roger.edi,
Are you still having trouble downloading that convert file? If so, please log out, clear the browser cache, and then log back in to your account at https://cloud.acrobat.com/files.
If you're still unable to download the file, please try from a different web browser.
