  • I Need a Pageflip Book for Flash AS3 Website (non-flex based)?

    Hello,
    I am rebuilding my website from a simple html based website to a Flash AS3 website. The problem I've run into is that I can not get my flex based flipbook onto my Flash AS3 website.
    Apparently AS3 is not flex base compatible. Does anyone know a pageflip book program I can use in Flash AS3? Oh, one more thing. I do not know computer code. I need something like Bannerzest. Thank you.

    for example , I have a book ..
    which has these chapters....
    Introducing Adobe Flex 2
    Working with MXML in Adobe Flex 2
    Working with ActionScript in Adobe Flex 2
    Nowhere , in this book ...integration with J2EE application has been described .
    can we really use it for J2EE application ? or I am chasing in wrong direction ?

    Can anyone recommend any good books on leaning actionscript
    for flash?
    Intermediate level
    I have been using flash for about 2 years more as a hobby
    than anything else, some websites etc but now I realise I am going
    to need to learn more actionscripting to do what I want, I have
    come to terms with the simple stuff like goto – basic
    variables – load mov – enough to programme up website

    I ideally want to learn more about the dynamic side of flash,
    mostly for designing user interfaces and websites etc
    I’m after a book that doesn’t get too heavy too
    fast yet I’m a little past the more basic functions
    Any thoughts?

  • Any good books for learning flash?

    I'm trying to learn how to use flash, and there's only so much I can learn on my own. I looked up some books on various websites, but I don't know which would be the "best" to use for someone completely new to the program.

    I would recommend anything by David Stiller. He posts a lot on these forums and has a great way of explain the why and how of doing stuff in Flash.
    It also depends upon if you are planning on learning code or timeline animation (or both). Chris Georgenes (who also often posts here) is a genius animator and has some good books too.
    For animation through code I recommend Keith Peter's "Making Things Move."
    There are also great on-line tutorials like at gotoAndLearn.com by the amazing Lee Brimlow.
    That should get you started...

  • A good book on Unix (from a DBA perspective) is needed

    Hi everyone,
    I am familiar with several Unix OS on a user level. However, when dealing with Oracle issues I often find that they are interrelated with OS issues. Can anyone recommend a good book on fundamentals of Unix (or more specifically, Solaris) system administration with some coverage of performance troubleshooting?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Need good book for ...

    I'm looking for a good book that talks about the structure of a database at the filesystem level. Information about which files are used to do what. Many beginner books I see try to explain databases from the inside while many advanced books are over my head technically based on my current knowledge of databases. I'm not trying to build/design one, just manipulate, backup, maintain one that's already there.

  • Simple Flip Book in Flash Builder

    I built this simple Flip Book in Flash Builder starting with Flash Catalyst...I guess the big issue is that when I make these components...they work well at z=0, but when I change z things don't work...why? Definitely needs a fix...everything is below (source, demo, book blog, video):
    Source: http://lv3d.googlecode.com/files/FlipBook.zip

    Hi,
    After thinking about your solution and doing some testing I have two comments...
    (1) I'm concerned that your change may not be congruent with Flash Catalyst and its logical flow, and
    (2) The solution did not solve the problem. I fear I have not explained myself well. So here is a video on the problem...

    And if anyone wants to know how to install a new SDK in Flash Builder. Here is a video on that too

    Thanks so much I really appreciate the comment...I'm digesting and testing it!!!
    From a PV3D and Away3D perspective...one of the difficulties I've run into is that in Flash Builder there are three ways to do 3D...MXML (from Flash Catalyst), Matrix Manipulation using update display, and dot syntax methods (hey which one do I use?). It's really difficult to get the same visual effects in Flash Builder that you get in PV3D and Away3D, but in doing so you don't have to run your processor so hard and can do more. And you can't beat how easy it is to work with Flash Catalyst...you can develop 3D 10 times faster...
    That means I'm taking my lumps while things are being repaired and developed. But that's the business...thanks again for your comments.
    Just one more comment...I've built the data-driven case of the book for 3 pages using FB data wizard:
    Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzKba9qyrp0
    Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xz9htZXYZyU
    Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Nyeg4_zuXo
    Part 4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG_uUIHSyqU
    ...in the multi-page case I will actually turn the pages into a particle system and treat the 3D a little differently...I'll take a real good look at your suggestions below then.
    Best Regards,
    Mike

    Subject: Simple Flip Book in Flash Builder
    Mike,
    Steven Shongrunden played around with your original FlipBook example and noticed that it doesn't work the same in the current builds as it did in Beta2. The problem is that we changed the behavior of the 3D effects recently, to fix this bug:
    http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/sdk-24993
    Basically, 3D effects used to side-effect the 3D properties of objects and persist their changes on the objects after transitions were over. This is different from the way that the rest of the effects work, where we install the proper end-state values in the objects when transitions end.
    This means that if you do a Rotate3D with angleYTo="180", that we'll do that rotation during the effect ... and then wipe out that change when the transition ends.
    There are two workarounds for this situation. The first, which is the way to go in general and definitely for Catalyst users, is to have 2-sided objects. So instead of simply seeing the back of the front cover, the user would see the front of a completely different object (the inside cover page, if you like). Then the transition should rotate both objects (the cover to 180 and the inside object to 0), then make the old object disappear and the new object appear at the right times (like at 90 degrees). So when the values are restored to the front cover upon transition end they will not be visible because the object is not visible.
    The workaround for coders is to actually tell the states the values that the object should have. So if you actually want to rotate the object around y, then set that information in the states so that we won't blow it away when the transition ends. In fact, you could even set it in the states and not in the effect and we'll run the transition automatically. This is really the best approach for state transitions in general: tell the states what values the objects should have, and tell the transitions what effects to run, then the effects will automatically figure out the values to animate from/to.
    The trick with this workaround is that the 3D effects affect the post-layout properties by default, and setting those values is not as obvious as setting pre-layout properties on the object.
    Here's an example of how to do this for the cover component:
         <components:frontCoverCustomComponent x="0" y="0" id="frontcovercustomcomponent1"   click="frontCoverCustomComponent_clickHandler()">
            <components:postLayoutTransformOffsets.State2>
                <s:TransformOffsets rotationY="180"/>
            </components:postLayoutTransformOffsets.State2>
        </components:frontCoverCustomComponent>
    I added this code to your custom component (and left the transition code as-is) and it now works as expect. It's still a bit weird to see the back of a two-dimensional object, so using two objects for anything that you'll see flipped is still a good thing to do in any case (as someone else suggested on this thread).
    Chet.

  • Best book for flash 8/Actionscript 2.0?

    I really need to get a good book - or a couple so that I can
    hammer out some of this Actionscript 2.0 stuff. Does anyone have a
    suggestion on good books?
    Thanks!
    Amanda

    You can find documentation in the Flash help. Also, remoting
    for Flash 8 is the same as remoting for Flash MX 2004 if you find
    something for mx 2004.

  • What's a good book for getting started?

    I've been doing web design in HTML and ColdFusion for almost 3 years. It's clear that ColdFusion is on it's way out and I need to learn J2EE/Java/JSP etc. I have a few questions:
    Java is a term I've heard associated with C++ and other types of programming as well as Web design. Are the Java/C++ Java and the Web Java basically the same type of language? Is the Web Java and JavaScript the same thing? I'm very confused!
    What is a good book for getting these types of questions answered and getting started in J2EE/Java/JSP? There are quite a few variations of script languages out there and I want to make sure I learn the right stuff, ie the stuff that employers are going to be needing.
    Thanks!

    Here is a free online version of a good book:
    http://pdf.coreservlets.com/Core-Servlets-and-JSP.pdf
    Print it off or read from the screen. Otherwise, there are several good Java books out there. What I would do is go to the bookstore and thumb through a few books. Depending on what type of book you want (example based or theory) find the books that you think would satisfy your learning style. Write down the names and authors, go home and buy them used online at Amazon for tremendous discounts. This way you can buy several versus just one.

    Open the library CTRL L and look for folder call
    "PageElements"
    You will find there movie clips call page1 page2 page3 page4
    etc...
    Every page is a movie clips so whatever you import from PS
    will
    need to be converted to movie clip. Name it page"number"
    according
    to your order and do not forget to give it LINKAGE name.
    To linkage clip you need to right click it while in library,
    go to
    LINKAGE than check the box EXPORT FOR ACTION SCRIPT and type
    the
    page name same as the library name (example) "page88"
    Now, on timeline you have layer call ACTIONS and on 5th frame
    of that
    layer is the place where you add pages using action script
    once all
    the library stuff is in order. You will find there :
    addPage("start");
    addPage("page1");
    addPage("page2");
    addPage("page3");
    addPage("page4");
    addPage("page5");
    Just add as much as you need.... Pretty much it

  • Suggestion for good book/reference of flex and blazeDS

    hi...been developing the client side with flex for some time and now getting into server side and found some stuff from adobe and other short articles about blaze and servers but really looking for a good book/reference...thought i'd buy a book called enterprise flex with blazeds by brian someone....worst IT book i've ever read...any ideas would be great

    Update:
    Ok...I finally figured out that by replacing the tokens in the services-config.xml file with the physical address of the server everything works.
    Anyway...this means the application needs to be compiled everytime it is moved to a new server or even a different folder on the same server for that matter. Is there any way to pass the {server.name}, {server.port} and {context.root} tokens to the application at runtime for messaging?
    Thanks,
