Need a good Skype WiFi phone that dosen't use comp...

I notice most of them are expensive.  I was looking on ebay for some cheap wifi cell phones (non name brand most likely from china).  Is it possible to get one of these phones, install skype app and use skype from there without cell phone service???

I would recommend trying a Freetalk Connect Me or Soundwin SP110.  I currently use the Freetalk in combination with a normal Panasonic DECT 6 phone system with multiple handsets in multiple story homes and it works rather good in my opinion.   I've gone wired and used wireless bridges to connect the base station/connect me to the Internet.  The other handsets only require power.  The longevity of the Connect Me unit is the main problem as I've had to purchase a few in the last few years.  I've found their support to be rather useless as well so it may be difficult to get a warranty replacement.  They've ignored my requests on issues dealing with bad firmware updates, which is probably the majority of failure on the units.  They provide no way of flashing the units locally, whereas the SP110 does.   On average they last about 1-2yrs before completely dying (device gets caught in a reset loop).  When compared to the dual phones pricewise the replacement cost is more affordable.

Soundwin no longer has the SP110 listed on their site but you may be able to find one.

You can activate iMessage on the old one so it can get your iMessages. The old phone will NOT recieve SMS/MMS messages sent to your number.

  • Are there any good basic/feature phones that have been discontinued?

My brother currently has the Samsung Intensity II and it's giving him a lot of problems. After troubleshooting with tech support it is best for him to replace the phone. The insurance deductible is $45 but the phone will likely be refurbished. I am seeking a non-smartphone for him that I can purchase via eBay or Craigslist. Because he is 16, he wants some type of smartphone. Preferably the iPhone or a low/mid-grade Android phone. I won't allow him to get a smartphone until he gets a job and pays for the phone and monthly data plan.
I am sort of disappointed in the selection of basic phones on the Verizon website - there are only 7 phones under $100. It seems backwards that there are 23 smartphones under $100. The conspiracy theorist in me would think this is a ploy to coax customers to move towards smartphones but I digress. I have been looking at the Samsung Brightside and the ZTE Adamant (discontinued - not offered on vzw.com) and they seem pretty cool and reasonably priced on eBay. Are there any other basic or feature phones that you would recommend [including discontinued and upcoming phones]?
I would rather not purchase a phone directly through Verizon so that it does not extend the contract or interfere with his upgrade date (to ensure that he will be able to afford the phone of his choice when he is ready).

Another vote for the Env3 - son and daughter both had them (18 and 21) and they were more than adequate phones and worked well for them.  My son (now nearing 24) is still using his though he is eligible for an upgrade now - he likes it and sees no reason to change until it quits on him.
The Alias (original) was a good phone for my daughter before her Env3, and I really enjoyed my LG Voyager, touchscreen.  None of the phones require a data plan, if you can find them.

  • Need Help Choosing A Basic Phone That Does Not Require A Data Plan

Hello,  I need to replace my current basic phone and do not qualify for an upgrade yet.
I need to find a new or used phone that does not require data. Can someone please give me some models that will work that are newer?
The VZW prepaid models have to be used 6 months on prepaid before you can use them on a contract and I have a contract.

Usually on eBay, the listing will indicate if it's prepaid.
I agree with Droid Usrr that the Intensity 2 is worth checking into, because it has a great rubberized keyboard and you can get one new for less than $100.
Depending on what you're willing to spend, I also noticed that the Wal-Mart in my area is selling the brand new Intensity III off contract for $175. That way, you'd still have the year warranty on it, and it's a solid phone.
There usually are quite a few inexpensive feature phones on Craigslist, too, if you're not opposed to meeting with strangers. It's best to meet at a Verizon store and activate it before handing over your money.

  • Need to add a storage drive that I can use between my Imac and Windows

I have a new storage drive that I want to partition and format for write capability on the Imac for storing large files that are used with other programs while working with the Imac but I also want to place an NTFS partition on that drive for use in Windows. The drive is 1Tb and I only need about 50% for each system.
I partitioned and formated the first partition using Disk utility and created a FAT 32 in the other but the FAT 32 limitations in Windows is a problem.
Is it possible to format the first partion in Window NTFS and the second using Disk Utility as a FAT 32 or another partition system that the Imac can read so I can at least have the NTFS partition recoginzed in Windows?
    Is this possible?
    How do I do it??

  • Do I need to have a wifi connection in order t use iCloud?

Wifi antenna is not working. Is there any other way to connect to iCloud from my iPhone?

You'll have to get it repaired in order to restore the backup.  It can only be restored using wifi.
Your only other option would be to restore the backup to a different iOS device, then back up that device to your computer using iTunes and restore the iTunes backup to your phone.

Did you try rebooting the router?

  • Need a VI for strain gages that will operate using LabView v 8.5

I am looking for an example VI similar to the one found at http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/3942 that will operate with my LabView v 8.5. All of the examples that I can find say that they will not work with my LabView because they were generated using v 6.1.

    Hi,
I will look into updating the example on the website. For now, give this VI a try.  Let me know if you need it saved in a different version but I think it should work with LabVIEW 8.5.

  • I HAVE MANY OLD SLIDES FROM MY FAMILY,WHAT IS A GOOD 35MM SLIDE  SCANNER  THAT CAN BE USE WITH MY MACBOOK PRO?

    Hi,
Can anyone recommend a scanner or other device for old family slides that must converted in a digital format  and saved in a DVD and external hard drive?
    Thanks
    Wandafromqc

Don't even think about scanning thousands of slides yourself. If you have 5000 family slides, it's overwhelmingly likely that just 500 of them will give a highly effective representation of the whole collection, and will include not only all of the best ones but many of the second-best ones too. Scanning them all, or even half of them, will consume your entire summer and would probably give you and your sibs a lot more pictures than any of you really wants to keep.
It used to be true that scanning slides halfway decently required an expensive dedicated film scanner -- consumer flatbed scanners just weren't up to the task. That's no longer true. I have an under-$200 Epson Perfection V500 Photo flatbed scanner that outperforms the $2000+ Nikon film scanner I've had for 9 years in slide and negative scanning, and the software that came with it enables me to scan several (6 if I remember right) slides at once and automatically saves them as separate image files. That makes it much faster to use than the film scanner, and of course I can also use it for scanning flat reflective material, such as the more than 1000 old photographic prints and post cards I've digitized for my local historical society. The film scanner couldn't have done any of that.

  • Any good note taking apps that don't use the cloud to sync to PC?

I'm looking for a note taking app that has an iPad client and a PC client that also acts as a server. I want to be able to keep my ipad notes in sync with my PC notes for work without using any cloud-like services. My iPad is connected to the same corporate network as my PC.
Any suggestions? I'm not fussed about special features like handwriting, images, colours, formatting, etc. folders and tags would be nice though.

No, I don't sync via iTunes any more, but the option is clearly still there, with a warning about what might happen if I turn it on.

  • Skype WiFi

Skype WiFi will be useful on Windows Phone 8 and 7.XThanks!

I think its ironic that there's no app for the Windows phone yet there is for IOS!!Hello Microsoft!! When will the app be developed for Windows phones? ALSO if you haven't figured it out yet, it isn't needed for free public wifi hotspots. It's only useful if the public hotspot requires payment AND it is part of the skype wifi serviced network...  Just saves you having to jump thru hoops to pay for an hour or so of internet access. Chances are slim that Skype is actually partnered with any public pay-for-hotspot connection you might come across, and bonus if it is..
