  • Brushes not working with new RAW conversion for Nikon D7000

I have always worked with RAW files w/A2 & A3.1.1 with my Nikon (D80) And now, just got Nikon's D7000 and of course, waited for the RAW conversion that just came out.
Apple addressed the Nikon D7000 RAW situation (which was fixed this month), but now when I use "brushes" on RAW pics, very little if any changes occur.
Very little affect occurs (if any) with A3.1.1 and the "new" RAW conversion for Nikon. I shot (at the same time) both RAW and JPEG (as cameras can) and put them side by side in A3. Pulled down Dodge / Burn / Skin Smoothing & Blur from brushes and they all did a great job. But on the RAW pic that was taken at the same time..... nada, nothing (maybe a minute change, but nothing to call home about).
Bottom line, the newest RAW capability that came out a couple of weeks ago, somehow messed up brushes? I don't think I am that smart or lucky to see this issue. Am I missing something here? If so, please set me straight.
I have tried the places one pulls down brushes but no affect on RAW. Using curves from bricks and luminance, etc, works just fine. Guess I am stuck with JPEG's until this is resolved by our A3 guys, or someone realigns me.

I am able to import them, but I cannot edit them as RAW files. They behave like .jpegs. So correcting exposure for example is a horrible experience. My 5D Mark II files behave as they did in Aperture, so it is the FZ1000 RAWs in particular that are problematic.

I need a link to buy online battery for Mac Book Pro 15" late 2008. Can't find this battery in the Apple Store...Battery: Model No. A1281 10.8 V 50 Wh.

The only place that you can get an Apple battery is from Apple.  All of the counterfeiter's will claim that they have an OEM battery for the simple reason so that they can fool you in purchasing from them.
At least from OWC you know exactly what you will be purchasing and they have a one year warranty.  I have purchased two from them, one for my 2006 MBP and one for my 2010 MBP.
    Ciao.

  • So... how long do we have to wait for a RAW update for the Nikon D600 camera?

So... how long do we have to wait for a RAW update for the Nikon D600 camera?

Adobe releases Camera Raw every 3 or 4 months. The D600 itself was launched only about 1 week ago. I'm sure its not included in ACR 7.2 RC yet. Nikon J1 is included though. I guess you're gona have to wait for it. Maybe 7.2 final release will have it or 7.3 should. Adobe employees/ product team will not commit to a time for Camera Raw releases.
However, you can use the software Nikon would've given you to convert your images as TIFF and import them into Lightroom/ Photoshop if you're in a hurry. It would be nice if your camera supports DNG conversion out of the box! This way, you wont need a Camera Raw from Adobe.
Anyway, you could file a 'Feature Request' to Adobe here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
    Good luck.

  • Preference for Processing RAW in LR or PS Camera Raw

I'm not finding this setting anywhere, and it seems to arbitrarily go back and forth, after updating software or installing software. Hoping someone can help.
When using an external editor (PS CS5) to edit photos from Lightroom 3, there is an inital preference to select whether to use ACR in PS to process the raw file, or to use LR.  I always want to do this in PS.  There's often times where I'm compositing multiple photos.  I only need to open up that raw file to quickly grab a section of it to move into another file.  I don't want to save the raw file as a psd, tif or whatever, just select, copy and move that section of the file and then close it.
The problem is that preference setting is only when you first set up the Lightroom, I'm not seeing it anywhere on any of the preference menus.  And for some reason, it has switched to processing the raw in Lightroom.  So now i'm ending up with useless psd files.  That takes up space on my hard drive, takes longer to archive on to external hard drives, and is slower to open the files into PS.  It may seem like a small inconvenience, but when shooting 1000s, or 10000s of images a week it adds up quickly.  And to get rid of them, i have to reveal in finder, then delete, then remove from catalog in LR - which just wastes time.
Am i missing something? If anyone knows how to set this or a workaround i'd love to hear it.

PS CS5 (12.0.4) and also the newest prerelease (can't disclose much on this)
LR and PS are both great in their own right, and do things better than the other in some situations, I wish Adobe would make them play nicer together.

Re: Preference for Processing RAW in LR or PS Camera Raw
In any event even if you choose to edit the original in PS, as I believe you should be able to do you will still end up with a Tiff, PSD or jpeg file when you have finished your work in PS. Then why are you using Lightroom? This will have a bearing on the advice you will get.
Like I said above, LR and PS both serve specific functions, and yes they do overlap in some areas, and I yes do use both in my workflow.  PS isn't a cataloging program.  LR doens't have layers and sucks at complex editing tasks.  There's 2 reasons i use both, amoung many many others.
The point of my question is that i don't want LR creating and saving PSD files on my hard drive when i don't need a PSD of that specific photo.  You use to be able to make LR open a raw file in PS and use ACR to processs it.  That meant you could close the raw file in Photoshop, and nowhere along the way was a PSD file, or any other file saved.

  • RAW conversion for Canon 5D Mark II

I can't open my raw files from my Mark II I have PSE 6 and have upgraded my raw conversion to 5.2 it still won't recongnize my .cr2 raw files from my Mark II it recongnizes my .cr2 from my 40D whats up?

Some of the Adobe download links are wrong and take you to an earlier version of Adobe Camera Raw. The latest version is ACR 5.6 which brings support for the newest camera models such as:
Canon EOS 7D, PowerShot S90 & G11, Nikon D3S and others. It’s also backward compatible and will support all earlier models including the EOS5DmkII.
First you will need to exit Photoshop Elements.
To get the plug-in for PSE6 go to the link below - instructions are for Windows users. They will differ for Mac users.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=4626&fileID=4303
Download the plug-in for Elements 8
Open the zip folder you just downloaded and click Extract Files.
You should see a 64 bit folder and a plug-in file below it. The plug in has a file name: Camera Raw.8bi
Now drag the plug-in file (or copy it) into the File Formats folder in the following location:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats.  See Gotcha
If running windows Vista you will probably get a pop-up requesting Administrator permission. Assuming you are the Administrator for your computer, simply agree.
I can confirm it does work as I have recently updated my plug-in for PSE6 using the above method. To test it, go to one of your photo folders, right click on a raw file (NEF, CR2, DNG etc) and select open with Photoshop Elements. The image should automatically open in ACR 5.6 giving you access to the latest slider adjustments, including white balance and exposure.
Note: If you have an earlier Camera Raw plug-in, I suggest you move it from the File Formats folder to My Documents before you begin. This will prevent it being overwritten by the new Camera Raw file (it will have the same name) and you can always move it back again if the download installation fails.
If you are using a 64-bit edition of Windows, then move the plug-in file from the unzipped download folder by navigating to:C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats.

  • Awful canon raw conversion for photos with dramatic (i.e. underwater) non-standard white balance

I'm shooting underwater (and white balancing as I shoot using a white disc) with a canon s90, and have noticed that the raw conversions done by aperture are way worse than those from jpegs when I shoot in raw+jpeg and those done by raw processing using the canon digital photo professional software. In particular, reds are pretty much lost. It may be a false lead, but I notice that in aperture, the rgb histogram shows a dramatic spike of the red channel on the far right (possibly clipping?) that doesn't show up in the rgb histogram in the canon software.
I'm not sure whether this is related to the plethora of threads about canon raw processing and overly green output. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas? I could batch convert to tiff in the canon software but I'd really rather not do that... For one thing the 16bit tiff files are so much bigger than the raws and it is an annoying extra step. Also, note that I can't just batch fix the white balance because (a) I'm having a hard time getting aperture to do it properly (possibly b/c the red channel is clipped as far as the aperture UI is concerned?) and (b) The white-balance changes from picture to picture as I change depth, which is the whole reason I white-balance as I'm shooting in the first place..
I've attached two versions of a picture, one of which I processed the raw in aperture and one of which I processed the raw (and converted to TIFF to give to aperture) in the canon software. I then exported both as small jpegs from aperture.
    Canon Digital Photo Professional (correct):
    Aperture RAW processing (very wrong):

    >Is MS Picture Viewer a colour managed application? I don't know, but don't think so. Lightroom is however which might be the cause of your problems.
Not in XP. In vista it is color managed. From the sound of it, the problem is a bad monitor profile but you might also have a corrupt Lightroom database. You need to recalibrate the monitor and NEVER use canned profiles from the monitor manufacturer. They are almost always corrupt. As a very last resort, you can use sRGB as the monitor profile (delete any profile found in the windows display properties) but only to hold you over until you can really calibrate it. The other problems with weird errors are pretty worrisome though. Do you also get them when you start a fresh catalog?

Do I have to go as far as changing the raw.plist or whatever it's called.
Would CS2 with the Raw conversion Plug-in work instead?

    Joe,
good to see that you are reading these posts. I am sure that many users whose cameras' raw files are currently not supported by Aperture would love to help out in any way they can.
However, as we are living in a converging world, why doesn't Apple talk with Adobe and share some of the information used for RAW conversion? I'm thinking dcraw which (according to a note in its source code*) is using data provided by Adobe... and that same data is also contained in the Raw.plist.
Thus, if Adobe knows something and shares it with dcraw, and Apple uses some of the dcraw code (at least the m2 matrices found in Raw.plist are equal to the dcraw ones), why can't you guys all share the same information, and thus speed up RAW support for all cameras?
    Just a thought.
    Kindest regards,
    Karl

  • RAW CONVERSION FOR NIKON D3200 ON XP??

I have done the download that I was told to do on the forum for the latest version of RAW conversion and now the RAW info on the Plug Ins in help has completely gone and I still cannot open RAW files.

  • Raw conversion for fuji x pro 1

    Hi All,
just a couple of quick questions; Does anybody know if Adobe is hard at work making a raw converter for the fuji x pro 1. I understand that the sensor array is totally different so I'm not looking for miracles.
The other question I have is; If I shoot in raw and jpg w/ a Fuji x-pro-1 will Lightroom accept both files even thought it will not (at this time) convert the raw file?
    Thanks for the help
    Mike

hehe.. yesterday before i went to bed i thought i have to ask this today.
im also very interested to hear if adobe is working on a "trans-x" sensor demosaicing process.
i think it is more difficult to reverse engineer then a normal bayer sensor?
i wonder if you need to know the exact pixel layout of the sensor.
as i understand it they use random 6x6 pixel arrangements?

  • Sharpness of NEF raw conversion for landscape photo is poor compared to ViewNX raw conversion

Raw conversion in ViewNX is far sharper than Aperture for some photos, enough so to differentiate as usable or unusable images. I tried adjusting sharpness and edges sliders in "RAW Fine Tuning" adjustments but even at maximum is terribly blurry compared to default ViewNX raw conversion. Overall color and dynamic range seem better in ViewNX for landscape shots but not critical like the blurriness... the difference is profound so I think I'm doing something wrong or the 3.2 update may have a serious bug. Anyone else have thisissue?
    Aperture 3.2:
    ViewNX:

I was talking with some others in another forum and someone suggested ViewNX may be automatically applying settings from camera default picture settings. So I just checked and in
    menu->shooting menu->set picture control
    (Nikon D90)
the standard "SD" setting is set to sharpen value 7 on a scale of 0-9.  Sounds like ViewNX is reading that value and applying some very strong sharpening in software on the raw image. However, I'd expect to set the Aperture RAW fine tune sharping adjustment to 100% and get reasonable close to similar sharpness. At this point I think I understand the issue but I also feel that ViewNX is much better able to sharpen the RAW image while introducing less unwanted artifacts.  It's a pretty significant point and I'd be quite happy to see improvement in sharpness from Aperture RAW conversion of NEF files.
I don't suppose there is any way I can configure Aperture to use the Nikon RAW converter? I'd love to have the option to choose or switch back and forth depending on the picture and results. There are times I prefer Apertures converter to Nikons.

  • Portable hard drive recommendations for delivering raw footage for both Mac and PC?

Hello all.  I recently purchased a hard drive ("my passport") that I thought would work for delivering raw footage, but turns out my client can't use it on their PC.  I did read something in the manual about using with both - but you had to format the drive as FAT32 which comes with a file limitation of 4GB and so will not work for raw footage.  Are there any reasonably priced drives that will work for transferring large files between operating systems without reformatting?
    Thanks!
    Karen

    You essentially have two options:
Option 1 - format the drive as NTFS then install this free utility on your Mac so it will read/write to NTFS formatted disk: http://download.cnet.com/NTFS-3G/3000-2094_4-10913782.html?tag=vtredir
Option 2: Purchase and install "MacDrive" on the Windows system and format the drive as Mac OS Extended" (aka HFS+).  MacDrive will allow the Windows system to read/write to disks formatted for Macs.

  • Need help with Elements loading RAW images since I switched cameras.

I recently switched from a Canon Rebel XT to a Canon Rebel T1i. I have Elements 6.0 and was able to see RAW images with my old camera. For some reason the RAW images aren't loading in Elements now. I get a message saying the files are corrupt. I've tried different cards but still no difference. Any suggestions?

    It shows at:-

you need at least ACR 5.4 for your T1i/500D
ACR 5.6 and therefore earlier versions work on PSE 6.
You should upgrade your PSE 6 to ACR 5.6; it does work on PSE 6 at least in WIndows. I know because ACR 5.6 works on my PSE 6 under Windows Vista.

  • Camera raw conversion for photoshop elements 12 . Camera Nikon D4S

Hi i have an apple Mac version 10.9 os.  I have Adobe photoshop Elements 12.  I just got a new camera Nikon D4S.  Photoshop Elements will not import my RAW phots (NEF) taken with the new D4S camera.  It gives me a message: Could not complete request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the Camera Raw installed version.  I uploaded a plug in 8.4 to my computer. Then tried to convert the photos in the D4S file folder. It would not convert the photos. The message from the DNG plugin said:  The Source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files.  How can I upload the RAW (NEF) photos taken with the D4S to photoshop elements 12?  Need help as I need to edit all these pictures.
I am having the same issue uploading the RAW (NEF) D4S photos into Adobe Lightroom 5 as well.
Thus I can not edit any of these photos.  I am very frustrated and could not find or locate a phone number to contact Adobe Elements for assistance, so if you have a phone number or email address for Adobe Photoshop Elements support or Adobe Lightroom support, please let me know.
