Need a little more help

so i am going to buy an iphone 3gs used but with no sim card what will I have to do in order to use it as an ipod, and if i need one what type of sim card would i need to use it, would it have to at&t or will any work in order to just use it as an ipod

You would have to insert a valid sim card to activate it (doesn't have to be an activated sim card, just a valid one).  If the phone was locked, the sim card must be from the carrier it was locked to.

  • Apple !!! • We Need A Little More Information From You •

    This forum is inhabited by many dedicated Logic users taking a lot of time to help each other and other users that are less experienced.
    I think we deserve a little more attention concerning information about compatibility and potential "dangers"
    Here's an example :
    http://duc.digidesign.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=UBB15
    Above link is to digidesign's User Forum DUC - Announcements (This thread is by NO means intended as a Logic vs. Pro Tools situation)
    On this part of their forum one can find compatibility alerts etc. i.e. the first post is called "Mac OS X 10.4.9 Qualified & Pro Tools Launch Error Help" This post is addressing a problem (also confirmed by Apple Support) with the auto update advising users to NOT use the auto update but go and get the combo update from Apple's website. In this particular case PT could face a launch error when having used the 10.4.9 auto update. The issues was not only seen by PT but many other 3rd pty. manufacturers also advised not to use the auto update.
    The Digidesign Announcements are very practical and prevents a lot of potential problems.
    I think it could help us Logic users help our selves and others if Apple were to make arrangements for the Logic Pro forum to contain something in the nature of what the DUC offers.
    I would love to have easy access to something like compatible interfaces, Plug-Ins etc. etc. Fact is that there are quite many Plugs and hardwares which claims to offer Logic compatibility but still ensure Crashes instead of workflow.
    Also, digidesign offers something called "Answer Base" it is a document that keeps growing and it is a base of "known Issues" and how to fix
    here's a Link - http://answerbase.digidesign.com/
    If you do a search on - Logic Pro, you'll find useful information and answers to questions that 100's before you have asked. Q's also asked a lot on this forum by people using Digidesign hardware with Logic.
    It would be wonderful if we could get something like this

  • Need a little more audiobook help please

    I received some excellent advice here regarding "how to" with audiobooks. I had a follow-up question but it might have gotten "lost" so I would like to repeat it.
    I transferred the books to audiobooks and I did the options as were recommended but when I go to audiobooks in the music main folder the books do not appear to be in sequence - ie. first listing might be disk 3 chapter 8, next listing disk 3 chapter 2, next listing disk 1 chapter 10, etc. My question is if I manually go to disk 1 chapter 1 to start will my iPod know to automatically go to disk 1 chapter 2 wherever that listing is and so on? Thanks.

    You may have to go back to the info screen > options and make sure the track and disc info are all in the right order as well. If that info is correct, then they should play in the right order.

  • How do I add a repeater Airport Extreme? Need a little more range.

    Just added the new Airport Extreme to my home/office network. Since my macbook pro is a dual core and not a dual core2, I am not able to use the new "n" wireless network. Not happy. So...I need more range to hit my office which is through 3 walls. How do I go about setting up a repeater. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you...Thomas

    Neptune is correct and your impression of N to
    dismay
    you is not founded. My G side of my network is now
    4
    to 5 times faster than before the N router and
    just
    about as fast as the N side of my network. So
    there
    are efficiencies to be gained from the N router.
    I concur. Adding the 2 AE 802.11n allows all my
    802.11g connected devices to use the maximum speed
    provided by my DSL line, 1.5 Gbit. I tested this
    using dslreports.com tools. I can get the maximum
    speed provided by my DSL provider (Verizon) from
    anywhere in my hour (on 3 different floors).
    Also I can use my iTunes streaming server (off a
    Infrant NAS) to go to maximum speed. And Apple TV
    streaming is working from all my machines, Macs and
    PCs.
    So there are MANY benefits to using multiple AEs with
    801.11g devices.
    Thanks to all. Just installed another airport extreme....but have no idea how to add it to my current network. I want to make it a repeater to extend my network. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Best

  • A little more help with image

    I have refered to this thread to help me create my background image.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=599393&messageID=3196643
    However I am stuck mostly because of not really fully grasping all the objects and how they work yet.
    Basically right now I have a JFrame and then I have a container which I put all my objects in.
    First question:
    What exactly does the following line of code do?
    Container contentPane = getContentPane();
    Does the "getContentPane()" method get the JFrame, since this is the class this line of code is embedded in?
    It sets contentPane which is a container to the JFrame?
    Second question...
    So using the above link I created a class called BackgroundImage and it works ...sort of. I have two windows - one is my JFrame game and the other is this background frame.
    Now I knew this would happen and I realize what I am supposed to do but I have been unsuccessful. Basically I need to make this JPanel my contentPane right?
    But when I say something like
    JPanel contentPane = panel my JFrame has nothing in it...
    How do I take this seperate window and incorporate it into what I already have.
    I want to use the contentPane variable since this is the variable where everything gets added throughout the code? I can't seem to get the JPanel to work.
    Take a look at some code snippets:
    public class DungMast extends JFrame
        /** Creates a new instance of EventPress */
        public DungMast() {
            Animation_Complete=false;
            Current_Level = 1;
            Level_Complete = false;
            CreateUserInterface();
            JPanel panel = new JPanel()
            protected void paintComponent(Graphics g)
           //  Dispaly image at at full size
         g.drawImage(img_BG.getImage(), 0, 0, null);
         //  Scale image to size of component
    //                    Dimension d = getSize();
    //                    g.drawImage icon.getImage(), 0, 0, d.width, d.height, null);
                        //  Fix the image position in the scroll pane
    //                    Point p = scrollPane.getViewport().getViewPosition();
    //                    g.drawImage(icon.getImage(), p.x, p.y, null);
                        super.paintComponent(g);
             panel.setOpaque( false );
             panel.setPreferredSize( new Dimension(400, 400) );
             scrollPane = new JScrollPane( panel );
             getContentPane().add( scrollPane );
             JButton button = new JButton( "Hello" );
             panel.add( button );
        }  //end constructor for main JFrame
    //Then I have something like
    JPanel contentPane = panel;
    }

    What exactly does the following line of code do?
    Container contentPane = getContentPane();
    It gets the content pane for the JFrame and saves a reference to it for later use, viz,
    the reference "contentPane" can be used to call methods in the Container class.
    Lightweight (Swing) top&#8211;level containers have a content pane that holds the child
    components for the parent container. See the comments section of the JRootPane class api
    for a birds&#8211;eye view.

  • Parental Controls solution needs a little more tho...

    Folks,
    Just joined BT and am disappointed by the Parental Controls.
    The practicality with 3 stroppy teenagers of getting to all of their devices (mix of Laptops, IPADS, Smart Phones) and installing Macafee S/W on every device in a secure way makes it a non-starter.
    I was impressed by the Homehub 4 I received but couldn't get it to work with my old Modem/Router to use OPENDNS (I knew HomeHub doesn't allow DNS changes).
    Ended up buying a new router. Cost a lot but what price is worth keeping the unacceptable face of the Internet out of your house.
    Anyway - What do people think - Should BT offer a whole home solution like OPENDNS - perhaps through their own DNS servers as they are so clearly keen for thir customers to use them.
    Rgs
    Simon

    BT need to do something. I recently had an issue with someone seeing something accidentally and have tried the following.
    Firstly we have a Macbook Pro and an iPad so not so many devices but with a need to do something.
    1. Installed McAfee (Family Protect I think it was called?) as offered by BT. It needed to be running as a background app on the Macbook Pro and I immediately had performance issues. It affected my download speed and PING went from a typical 20 to 120. It also for some reason affected the displaying of images which was good but surely not on CBBC. Gave up and removed it.
    2. Went to Symantecs website and noticed they had a free offering, so installed it. Must work in a similar way to McAfee as I had the same performance issues. So, removed it.
    3. Then went to OpenDNS and installed their free Home Parental Controls. Because of not being able to change the DNS settings on my HH3 I changed the settings on the Macbook Pro and the iPad individually and since it has worked very well. The only issue I have had is that you can't do much about images. My solution for the images issue has been to switch from Google to Bing as my search engine. It seems that OpenDNS does a fairly good job of dealing with Images and Videos when you search with Bing. OpenDNS can instruct Bing to block these but it can't instruct Google. There was no performance hit in using OpenDNS.
    This is now my default position which I am trialling.
    I have now given my granddaughter affected by the accidental viewing her own account and as OSX has Parental Controls built in I have now restricted her account so that she can only view websites in an acceptable list and no others. If OpenDNS proves satisfactory I will release the shackles and allow more access. It would be good if she could do her own school research unsupervised but not until I am happy. BT need to do something that works and support families.
    Out of interest for those with IOS devices, IOS 7 is out this week and I understand that Safari has been beefed up with Parental Controls, perhaps that will offer is hope.
    In addition OSX Mavericks is out this autumn and again I am expecting the Parental Controls to be beefed up.

  • Adobe needs to be more helpful

    Just bought Premier CC. I used Premier back in the days when it was on 3.5 inch floppies and decided to move on from FCP. I'm trying to use it on an i7 Sony laptop with cuda. Technically, it seems to be a good system with a horrible interface. Adobe seems to have released CC before their documentation was ready. Example -- the Adobe page recently added a note stating that Encore is not included with CC. Well, how do I get it? Is it even available anymore?
    The codec Problem!  WTF?
    Why is it so hard to get the correct codec? I have the latest version of QT pro but I still can't play .mov files. I installed Apple's prores plugin but can't play them either. There NEEDS to be much better integration between Premier and the tools we need to make it useful. When a codec cannot be found, it should tell you what you need and direct you to a site to get it!
    Its clear from the unituitive interfaces and logic of most Adobe products that Adobe does not have the quality people necessary to create software and support systems that are easy to learn and to use.
    We all are going to be paying them every month. We need to demand that they earn their money. We are paying them to make our jobs easier- not to frustrate us with issues unrelated to creating content.
    I have never been a fan of Apple, though I've been using FCP for many years, but FCP does work and its not frustrating. Adobe must improve its usability quickly! Many are considering leaving FCP becuase they are unhappy with FCPx and they want Premier to be good. We already use PS and AE and it makes logical sense to use an editor from the same family. Unfortunately, Premier ain't ready yet! I know several who have attempted the change but have given up becuase of the general stupidity of the interface, and the difficulty of getting it ready to use for serious work in a facility with multiple systems and editors.
    Get better Adobe or go away!

  • Trying to add a sign in module, but I need a little code help.

    I am trying to add a sign in, but this is what happens to my page. http://www.blisssurfadventures.com/about.html?Preview=True
    When trying to add in module the page content box only allows me to see a part of my web page.

    Hi,
    I notice the sign in is now already there. What Safari version are you using? I tested on 6.0.2 (the latest) and seems to be working fine. Did you try other browsers?
    Also, looks like you're publishing from muse and using non-web-safe fonts, thus turning your texts into images. That may not be the best way to go, if you want content to be indexed, layout to be flexible, if users might want to select parts of the text, etc.
    Kind Regards,
    Alex

    This is in the HTML header section for the page...
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function test(pThis)
    var currIndex = $('select[name="'+pThis.name+'"]').index(pThis);
    if (pThis.value=='2') {
    $('input[name="f02"]')[currIndex].style.backgroundColor = "LightGrey";
    $('input[name="f02"]')[currIndex].disabled=true;
    The report region is defined as...
    SELECT apex_item.text(1, ir.iot_rebate_type_id) iot_rebate_type_id
    ,apex_item.select_list_from_lov_xl(2,ir.rebate_currency,'LOV_CURRENCY_CODES') rebate_currency
    FROM iot_rebate ir
    WHERE ir.iot_agreement_id = :P303_IOT_AGREEMENT_ID
    The iot_rebate_type_id column has an Column Element Attribute set to...
    onchange="javascript:test(this);"
    As I say, if I define the rebate currency as a text item, the javascript works fine.
    Can anyone offer any suggestions?
    Many thanks

    Hi Vikram.
    That's great.
    I have the relevant items being set to diabled & grey (and also the reverse of this if the driving select list is changed back).
    As this is being used in a Tabular form, if I am calling pre-existing records which should be displayed with two of the select lists disabled, can you point me in the right direction to show the relevent select lists as disabled when the records are returned from the database?If you are using apex_item API set the disabled property into p_attributes parameter conditionally using a case statement in you sql statement
    Another option is you can use some javascript to loop through the tabular form array that runs on the onload of the page.
    Finally, if some columns are disabled, this invaludates the MRU process on the page. Is there a way to submit the page with some fields in the disabled state?Do that as per Roel's suggestion for this issue.
    Any input/pointers much appreciated.

  • Need a little scripting help

    Can someone post some basic code that shows how to export from a form on a web page and how the shell script reads that variable in.
    I'm trying to take a value called TYPE and post that to the shell version of the transfer script. I don't know how to relate that TYPE variable to something the shell can understand.
    Many thanks.

    Thanks try67. . .  but I probably did not pose the question correctly. When I inserted the script I got the discounted value when I really wanted the value minus the discount.... in this case it would have been $100.00. (1 Die LIne @ $115.00 - $15.00 = $100.00).

  • Need a little help with dial setup on CME

    I've got a CME I'm using for testing and I think I need a little help figuring out the proper config to get the system to accept numbers I dial and have those numbers be passed on to an Avaya system (including the leading 9 for ARS in Avaya) via H.323 IP trunks.   I have it working well for internal 5 digit extension calls across the H.323 trunks and I also have it working well for some types of outside calls that gets passed on to the Avaya and then the Avaya dials the call out to the PSTN.   My only real problem is, I can't figure out how to correctly configure CME to examine the digits I'm dialing and only send the digits once I'm finished dialing....not as soon as it sees an initial match.
    What's happening is this.  I can dial local numbers in my area as 7 digits or 10 digits.  The phone company doesn't yet force us to dial area code and number for local calls (10 digits).  I can still dial 7 digits.   But...if I put an entry in CME that looks like this....
    (by the way, the 192.168.1.1 IP is not the real IP address, that's just an example, but the rest of this entry is what I really have entered in CME)
    dial-peer voice 9 voip
    description Outside 7 Dig Local Calls Via Avaya
    destination-pattern 9.......
    session target ipv4:192.168.1.1
    dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric
    no vad
    ...Then it will always try to dial out immediately after seeing the first 8 digits I dial (9 plus the 7 digit number I called)...even though I have a speicifc entry in the system that accounts for calls to 9 plus area code 513.  I would have assumed that if I put the specific entry in for 9513....... it would see that and wait to see if I was actually dialing something to match 9513....... instead of 9.......   Understand what I mean?   Because 9513....... is more specific than 9....... but it still tries to send the call out immediately after seeing the first 8 digits I dialed.
    dial-peer voice 9513 voip
    description Outside 10 Dig Local Calls Via Avaya
    destination-pattern 9513.......
    session target ipv4:192.168.1.1
    dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric
    no vad
    ...BUT...here's the interesting thing.  If I trace the 10 digit call in Avaya, I see that the number being presented to the Avaya PBX is only the first 7 digits of the number....not the full 10 digits...BUT I see a few more of the digits I dialed (like the 8th and 9th digits) after the call is already setup and sent to the PSTN.  It's like the CME is trying to send the rest of the 10 digits I dialed, but at that point it's already too late.   It setup the call as a 7 digit call (9 plus 7 digits), not 10 digit like I wanted.
    I'm more familiar with how to setup dialing in the Avaya via ARS.  My background is Avaya, not Cisco, so this dial-peer config is a little difficult for me until I understand the reasoning of how it examines the numbers and what I should do to make it wait for me to finish dialing....or to tell the system that what I'm dialing will be a minimum or a certain amount of digits and maximum of a certain amount of digits, like the Avaya does.  I just need some pointers and examples to look at :-)   I think I've almost got it....but I'm just missing something at the moment.
    Just so you understand, the call flow should be like this:  Cisco phone registered to CME > CME to Avaya via H.323 trunks > Avaya to PSTN via ISDN PRI trunks connected to Avaya.  I have to be sure I send the 9 to the Avaya also, because 9 triggers ARS in the Avaya.
    Thanks for your help

    Here is a good document that explains how dial-peers are matched in the Cisco world:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk652/tk90/technologies_tech_note09186a008010fed1.shtml#topic7
    In your case, it is variable length dial plan you are trying to implenent. To fix it, you need to add a T to force the system to wait for more digits to be entered if there is any.
    dial-peer voice 9 voip
    description Outside 7 Dig Local Calls Via Avaya
    destination-pattern 9.......T
    session target ipv4:192.168.1.1
    dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric
    no vad
    dial-peer voice 9513 voip
    description Outside 10 Dig Local Calls Via Avaya
    destination-pattern 9513.......
    session target ipv4:192.168.1.1
    dtmf-relay h245-alphanumeric
    no vad
    You can also configure the inter-digits timeout using the command timeouts interdigit under telephony-service.

  • Need a little help.... not major....but am unsure I have...

    Need a little help.... not major....but am unsure I have the 2.4 GHz Wireless-G Broadband Router Model WRT54G version 2 I had bought some time ago (over year and a half) and never really had it hooked up since I have been moving from place to place. Now that I'm retired and staying in one place I'm ready to set up. I find myself having "several" power adaptors and not sure which is the correct one. Can anyone tell me if all the broadband routers had the Linksys name and/or logo on them? None of the adapters I have do. I want to use a proper adapter so as not to damage....are there any specs that would be helpful so that one of these adapters would work? Also I'm running WindowsXP Sorry to bother you folks with a dumb question as I'm sure there are others with far more important questions and concerns. Although I can't tell other than the end going into the unit fits, I do have one Class 2 Transformer which might be the one it's about 1 1/2 inches thick, about 2 inches tall with following written information: Model 49-12-1000D CUI Inc Input AC 120V 60Hz 20W Output DC12V 1000mA Appreciate any help you can give.....I believe my unit is an older one based on version so there may have been a "fatter" adapter then than now.

    The power adapter output should be 12V, 0.5A(so 6W power rating)
