Need a miracle here - timeline sound gone bad

Yes I'm hoping and praying that someone can work a miracle here. I know I'm not the first person to have an iMovie problem destroy a few weeks work but this is a really crucial project that I have to hand in first thing tomorrow morning. Bad consequences if I don't. Anyway sorry to bore you with that stuff now this is what has suddenly happened.
I was minutes, yes minutes away from finishing this 18 minute project when suddenly the sound in the timeline went all distorted and choppy. I'm not sure what I did to bring it on but I immediately closed the project without saving in the hope that whatever bad stuff I'd picked up would not be there when re-opening..
I'm afraid not! Seems to be staying with the project after shut-downs and restarts.
The sound when you play a clip from the clips pane is perfect but down in the timeline, whether it's the sound that accompanies a clip or extracted sound on one of the soundtracks or even imported CD music.... all sound very poor now. It's distorted and a bit choppy too. It's that sound you get when you turn a poor quality radio or amp up full and it overdrives itself. I tried dragging a new clip from the clips pane down into the timeline and its sound was immediately affected. Drag it back up tp the clips pane and its ok again.
Another strange thing is that I can't help but thing that the sound is slower. How can that be possible when the vision looks normal. Very weird. It may have introduced a sync problem too. By the way the saved quicktime movie is also distorted.
Hope you're still reading! Hope someone can help. Waiting with crossed fingers.

Ok, hold the phone everyone! I knew I'd end up looking silly when I got so dramatic.
I went back and deleted the last clips, sound extractions, etc that I did before I shut down and low and behold, for some reason whatever I did there at the end of the timeline affected everything else before it and also all sound.
Still a mystery but out of sync problem, broken sound etc is ok now.
Interesting to see what happens when I add the same clips again.
Sorry to bother you all for nothing. Hope this experience may help someone else though.

  • My friend wanted to get some of the music off my itunes. when syncing it needed to udate her phone which it did - now all her photos are gone. and the last back up was from when she used my itunes 6  ago. How can we get back her photos :(Please help

My friend wanted to get some music off my itunes - when syncing it it said she had to update her phone software first - which it did. Now all her photos are gone. When we tried to restore the last back up - the only one was from when she used my itunes 6 months ago which was from her old iphone. So now it has put all her photos from her old phone onto her new iphone and deleted all the new ones. We cannot find her new photos. Please help and there was 100 new pics. Is there any way we can get them back. I already have the program Asoftech - but it doesnt seem to register the iphone only C and D drive. Please help!

This is called "stealing". You do not have the legal right to give her the music you have in your iTunes library unless you are the copyright holder.
when syncing it it said she had to update her phone software first
That's not quite what it said.  Someone should have paid more attention to the great big warning about the possibility of losing data if the phone wasn't backed up.

It restored the backup that was made on your computer 6 months ago, which did not contain those photos. You're wasting your time trying to find them on the phone. They don't exist.
Hopefully, your friend syncs her phone to her own computer on a regular basis. She needs to plug her phone into her computer and restore it from her last backup. That will restore it to the state it was in when the backup was made.
She also needs to get in the habit of extracting the photos on a regular basis, like she would from any other digital camera.

  • Can Apple replace my macbook pro (mid 2012) retina's battery if I think that the battery health has gone bad/in need of and renewal?

Can Apple replace my macbook pro (mid 2012) retina's battery if I think that the battery health has gone bad/in need of and renewal???
I've had my Macbook for about 11 months now and i use it every day; its gone though about 420 cycles of charging and using the power, and i noticed the battrey preformance has decreased (as expected). The problem isn't sevear yet but it would comfort me knowing that i could replace the battery in the near future
Please contact me or answer the question if you know anything about this!

No only if they think under warranty/AppleCare, but your likely able to pay for a new battery if they have them, which they might not yet since it's such a new machine still.
BTW, I have a Early 2011 17" MBP, 27 months old, charges to 97% and has only 14 cycles.

You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)

  • Scanner gone bad?

    Hello all,
My nice niece is sending me photos to do something with for her wedding. She is scanning them at about 300 dpi and then emailing a few to me to look at before burning them all to disk and mailing them to me. I am opening in Preview then iPhoto.
They all look poor quality though in email. Horizontal lines and blotchy and pixelized etc.., Is this due to email doing something to them or are there some signs of a scanner gone bad that we could look for?
    Thanks,
    Al

    Al:
Does she see the horizontal lines on the pictures also? If not then it's being introduced by the emailing. If that's the case have her try to zip the file before emailing - Control-click on the file and select "Create Archive of xxxxx" from the Contextual menu. Then email that archive file.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • My Canvas and Timeline are gone and I can't get them back

    Hey everyone.
I've been using a new HD camera and i have had to change a billion settings on FCP. Now that I am no longer using HD it was time to go back to the way they were, but I must have done something wrong. My canvas and timeline are gone and I can't get them back. I tried going to window and just pulling them up but I can't click on the canvas and timeline buttons...
Please help!!! I am fairly new at final cut pro and I need help. I have a film festival deadline approaching and only hope that some kind person out there can help!!

Trash your FCP preferences. This will reset FCP to it's defaults.
Close Final Cut Pro and open a Finder window.
Click on your user name in the side bar.
Open the following sub folders Library, Preferences, Final Cut Pro User Data.
Place the following files in the Trash:
Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs, Final Cut Pro Obj Cache, Final Cut Pro Prof Cache.
    Empty the Trash.
Open Final Cut Pro. You will be asked to choose your working format (Easy Setup) and designate your scatch disks.

  • Content engine fan gone bad? How to check health?

We deployed a CE-511 to a remote site.
The site contact told me one of the fans may have gone bad cause it sounds like "someone getting a tatoo".
"show power" or "show environment" doesn't work on the content engine.
I can't find anything in the syslog either.
Could someone please tell me how I can check the health / status of the system fans?
    thanks.

windows Xp stating that realtek AC 97 sound drivers are installed, enabled and properly working
I tried installing latest drivers from the web as well
    but cant hear any sound
earlier it was ok .... i have installed and uninstalled xp many times previously and everthing was fine after installing drivers...sound was there
this time i have changed bios battery and set all configuration to default...
cant hear any sound from speakers/headphone
i shall really appreciate your help in this regard
    Thanks

Don't expect to find anything usefull there
"It seems that songs are playing when i open one in a player .."
    Which player? What songs?{Not name but sound format used}
Type in run "dxdiag", then select "sound" tab and do "test".
Go to control panel, sound and multimedia, see if you can play the wav files from there. Make sure that properly sound device is used as playback if you have more than one
    Run the mixer the check that speaker sets are configured properly, and there is not muted lines{master or wave volumes}
Do a sound test from there too if its available.
"- could it be with the sound output jack itself gone dead?"
    Yes. Also is possible the sound card amplifier to be dead.{not jack problem}
"- how do I ensure that buying a new sound card is the only solution (I hate this idea), suppose the problem is with bios/ M/b ... then i would have wasted money as soundcard may not function too"
Well you can ensure that by dismissing other possibilities.
That's the simplest and best idea.{If the onboard sound is dead} External cheap PCI sound cost around 10$ and forget about the case.

  • Firewire gone bad

    firewire gone bad.
Ireciently have hd issues with my g4 power mac in regards to its firewire connection. I reciently purchased an adio interface, a m-audio firewire 410 which runs via firewire. I was warned that this device could potentially harm my fire wire port. Reciently my computer will shut down when I plug the cable in. My computer also will nit recognize my m-audio interface which makes it usless to me at this point. My question is...
Does this seem like an issue with my firewire port or the device I'm using or both. Also I would love to know what need to do to resolve this issue.
    Ryan

Try a Firewire PCI card..... it's a cheap experiment to do
But are you sure that is the Mac and not the FW410?
Maybe are just the M-Audio drivers....
    cheers

A PRAM reset might be all you need if it's a simple hardware issue.
    To Reset PRAM:
Shut down your computer; then turn it on again and immediately hold down the Command-Option-P-R keys. When you hear the startup sound for the second time, release the keys.
IMPORTANT: Resetting parameter random-access memory (PRAM) may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.

  • New G580 laptop gone bad

I bought a lenovo G580 a few months back and it has already gone bad. I am not able to switch on the system without the chargers plugged in.
I have called up the customer service but they dont seem to be of any help either. They just lack the communication skills and fail to give any solution.
If my problem isn't sorted out. i will have to post my pathetic experience with Lenovo on all the social networking websites. If the company can't assist us during the warranty period, I wonder what will happen if the warranty period expires.

    Hi Azam,
As I can understand that the battery is not charging so I’d like to advise you to uninstall Lenovo Energy management from your application list and then reinstall it back from the below link we just need to make sure that the problem isn’t with the software issue:
    For Windows 7(32bit-64bit):
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_EG/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS030145
    For Windows 8(32bit-64bit):
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_EG/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS031269
And after that check the battery icon if it changed to be charging.
Hope the information helps. Let us know.
    Regards
    Soha

  • What cables do I need to connect my 2013 macbook pro to my HD tv? I know I need mini display to HDMI, but male? female HDMI??? and also, do I need a separate cable for sound?

Actually you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. It will carry both audio and video.
This one will work: Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support

  • Has my M1424WR router "gone bad"? - and its replacement "bad" out of the box?

I've had Verizon FiOS service for about 3 years now, and have had very few problems with it.  A few times I lost internet or TV during storms when lines came down somewhere, but that's about it.
The FiOS installer gave me an Actiontec M1424WR router and access port, with a coax connection to the outside box.  I have a multi-room DVR setup (2 DVRs that can "see" each other, and a third read-only STB), so as I understand it I have to use the Actiontec (good bye to my old Linksys router used with my high speed cable service).
I have 4 computers attached directly to the router and up to 8-10 wireless devices (cell phones, tablets, wireless printer, gaming devices, streaming media players, etc.) on my home network.  As such, I reset the router's SSID to the same one I had before, with 128-bit WEP security (a 16 char hex key).  I also am "advanced" enough to know how to go through the advanced settings and start the DHCP address allocation to start at 192.168.1.100 to allow several of my devices (network storage drive, wireless printer, gaming systems, etc.) to maintain locally static IP addresses like 192.168.1.3 through 192.168.1.9 that reconnect when the router is reset or rebooted.
All this worked beautifully for about 3 years, until last week.  The wireless network started dropping out - not just external internet access, but seeing other hosts in the home network - requiring a router reset to come back (or just a disable/re-enable of wireless service via the router settings at http://192.168.1.1).  However, the "Wireless" light on the router remains green.
Even the wired internet connection (the computer hooked up with an Ethernet cable, right next to the router) would lose its internet connection for 5-10 seconds at a time before resuming.  The multi-room DVR functionality would get spotty, too - until a reset, boxes couldn't see each other, playing back data from another box would be very slow or not come up at all.
After 4 goes of it with Verizon support via chat and phone (the experience of which I won't go into), which included a remote reset of my external access box by Verizon, I concluded that the router must have gone bad.
Last night, I went in person to a Verizon service station near me to swap the router, got back what they said was a "brand new" M1424WR, and installed it...  To get the same problem, actually worse.  The wireless drops out in about 5 minutes, the light is still green but no wireless hosts can ping each other or anything on the wider internet (like using Speedtest).  I can use my wired internet fine (no hiccups there, yet) but my multi-room DVR is not 100%, two boxes can see the other two but one of the DVRs can only see itself.
It seems unlikely but I have to believe this is still a problem with the router box itself, and I just got yet another flaky one back, right?  Nothing in my home network has changed (no new devices, services added, firmware updates, etc.) from last Tuesday when it was fine.
Any other ideas for me to try?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well, I traced it to a "radio problem" with a client device.  It was a "Belkin F5D7330 802.11g Wireless Ethernet/Gaming Adapter" I was using to connect a network printer that has only an ethernet port to my wireless network (so I wouldn't have to run CAT5 cable to where the printer is situated).
To do this I had to remove/disable ALL my wireless devices and computers, then add them back in one by one...  It was frustrating because I'd forgotten that printer was actually connected wirelessly, I was used to thinking of it as connected via an ethernet cable since I "knew" that's what the printer supported.  I even unplugged my 2.4 GHz wireless phone base, which I actually believed to be the culprit.  I only remembered the printer's wireless adapter after everything else was removed.
But once I unplugged the Belkin's power, boom, my wireless network was back to normal!  And plugging it back in caused the problem again.  So it's bye-bye Belkin.
