Need a new Calendar 'Repeat Event' option

The most common 'Repeat Event' option that I use is for meetings best described as "The second Thursday in each month" or "The third Wednesday of each month".
I can find no way to enter this repeat.
I am using the iPhone Calendar as my sole Calendar. (I.e. I do not synch it to a PC Calendar.)
Can anyone tell me how to enter such a repeat? Thanks.

As Ian said, it cannot be done on the iPhone, but if you are synced to anothyer calendar with that capability, such as Outllok, then you do it there and the dates sync across.

Crap... I don't know why I'd missed it... when you double click the event you get the window comes up...In little tiny gray letters first it reads
location
all-day
to
repeat
calendar
etc.....
click on that and get your options for repeating. Hope that helps.

N8 calendar: private events option missing?

Hi,
Picked up the N8 yesterday, and was wondering if anyone knows an answer to the following. Is the missing "Private" flag setting in the N8 calendar a feature or a bug? And is there anyway around it / am I missing something?
In Outlook you can set an event to be private (or not). In my previous Nokia phones - last one being the E72 - the calendar events had this privacy option where I would set public / private / no sync. The option seems to be missing from the N8.
The N8 calendar does not allow to change the private flag for events synced with Exchange. It does retain the flag - so events set to private in Outlook will remain like that, and events set to public remain like that - even after editing them on the phone. So clearly the internals of the phone know about this flag and can handle its value when editing events (verified with some sync testing). But you cannot change the flag in the N8.
Luckily all new events become private, so it is not completely useless, but I don't understand why that option is gone. With the N8 calendar I basically have only two of those three options.
No sync: I can create a new calendar, putting the event there, thereby it does not get synced with Exchange.
Private: I can put it into the Exchange calendar when I get a private event.
But I cannot create a public event from my phone.
Feature or bug?

ICal Group Calendars Repeating Events

Is it really true that group calendars can't have repeating events? If you add an group account in iCal and then take events from the Group calendar and make them repeating they do not show up in the web calendar.
Is Apple telling up that standing weekly or monthly meetings for a workgroup are "a bad thing"?

I have finally got Leopard Server Advanced up and running with Open Directory, iCal Server, Wiki Server and DNS. I haven't tried my luck on anything else because my experience is that once you break something there is no way to fix it other than a clean install!
Now I find that repeating events don't show up in the web calendar? Obviously this product was not ready to be released. I am hoping that after a couple of more point releases, maybe by 10.5.5, this will finally be stable and feature complete.
It has a long way to go before it lives up to its hype. It does have potential though so I am willing to hang in there.

Calendar - repeating events

Hi - I set up annual events in my calendar by setting annual repeats. I am syncing with Outlook. After doing this, most of my annual events now repeat every day, until 2028... these are events that are set to 'all day' so they end up being all day, every day, for 20 years! When I set them up they are all day, for one day, with an annual repeat - it is just after syncing that it seems they become all day, every day, for 20 years.
Any assistance?

Interestingly they do no show up as daily events in Groupwise or Outlook which correctly displays them as annual events - anyone else setting up annual events in Groupwise/Outlook that have no specific time/all day events, experiencing similar issues?

Treo 755P Calendar repeating events being mysteriously deleted

For some reason I can no longer create an event that repeats weekly or every other week. I can create an event that repeats daily but when I change to weekly or every other week the event is deleted. This just started happening a few days ago. I tried backing up, then doing a hard reset then reinstalling just my contacts and calendar and the same thing keeps happening. Has any one else experienced this? Please don't tell me the only solution is a hard reset and manually entering all of my calendar events past and future.

Well, not to split hairs, but the actual issue is with the fact that apple does not sync properly with Treo's using the native iSync application. Due to the known issue, Apple itself pimps The Missing Sync as a "Productivity Tool." http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/productivity_tools/
Due to this fact I was hoping for a response from someone here who could help me with this.

Repeat event option -- end 'on date' not functional

and nothing shows up to type in a date...

I had the exact same problem. The first few events I made on my exchange account were repeating ones with an end date. As soon as I refreshed in iCal all of my events disappeared. Since I didn't have any non-end dated events I did not suspect the "end on" date to be the problem. I then stumbled onto your thread, replaced the "end on" date with a certain amount of weeks in outlook live, refreshed my exchange account in ical, and the lost events finally appeared again. It is a very annoying bug, but I am glad that you posted a work around! Hopefully Apple can fix this on the next update??

My ipad mini isn't letting me add new calendars, what do I do?

Just bought a new ipad mini but it will not allow me to add a new calendar, only events. There is no 'add new calendar' button. How do I fix this?

Why did a new repeating event disappear in my calendar??

I put a new repeating event in my calendar and it showed up, but five minutes later it disappeared. I can see it in the list view, but not on the day view. I have the claendar checked so it should be showing up. How can i stop this from happening?

Can I add non regular repeating events in the default Calendar?

I've recently been using the Calendar app to try to keep track of my increasingly hectic work schedule. One of my jobs is easy to add as it's on the same day each week, so I can just use the repeating events menu. The other two can be any day of the week, but always the same hours, so if I'm cleaning it's always 8.30 to 14.30, but it can Monday, Wednesday and Thursday this week, Tuesday and Thursday the next, just Monday the next, you get the idea.
What I'd like to do is to be able to add an event called 'cleaning' or 'bar work' to a specific day and have the calendar know that means it needs to block off 8.30 to 14.30 or 20.00 to midnight. It can take me 15 minutes some weeks to enter my work schedule into my phone as it is, and if I'm interrupted while I'm doing it then I have no idea which days I haven't entered yet.
Is this something I can do in the Calendar app? If not, is there another app I can do this in, or at least cut the process down in some way? I've tried looking at other calendar apps, but it doesn't seem to a feature they advertise if they do have it.

The iPhone/iPad version of iCal doesn't have this option, but the Mac desktop version does (assuming you use a Mac). Follow the directions below and then sync your device with your Mac and the repeating event will appear in your mobile device.
Open iCal on the desktop. Make a new event. Double click on the event and then click "edit." Change the repeat option to "Custom..." Select frequency as "monthly." Click the bottom radio button that says "on the" to enable you to set which day to repeat on. Close the event info window and then sync your device.
I hope they enable this option in the mobile software soon. It is a glaring omission for a calendar program.
P.S., sorry, I just noticed you didn't include a Mac in your hardware list. I don't know how you'd accomplish this with Windows. Maybe this post will help someone else, though.

Can I switch calendars (Ex. "night shift" to "day shift" cal) with a repeating event, but ONLY for that one event?? It asks "for all events or only this event" if i change the time. But it changes ALL events when i try and switch calendars. Any help??

I have 2 calendars set up for my work schedule, a "night shift" and "day shift" calendar. I've set up repeating events fro Fri/Sat/Sun 3-11pm "night shifts" and Mon/Tues 7am-3pm "day shifts". But lets say for example that I swap shifts and instead of working nights on Saturday like I normally would, I am now working days. I want to change that in my calendar. When I go to change the event, if i change the TIME it asks if i want to change all event or ONLY this event. no problem....just this single event. but when i go to change the event from the "night shift" calendar to the "day shift" calendar, it changes ALL the repeating events, and not just that one single event. can anyone help with this??? am i doing something wrong? is there a way to do this or not with the new iCal program??? i used to do this and never had any problems. Thank you!

You need to follow iPhoto terms since we only know what you tell us
what are you calling folders - in iPhoto folders can not hold photos - albums hold photos and folders hold albums or other folders
The basic default view of photo is by event (iPhoto '08 and later)

These selections work in the Google Calendar. but I cannot find the way to do it in the standard ipad or iphone calendar

Calendar has multiple copies of repeating events

This is just ridiculous. Just about any repeating event fills up the calendar with multiple copies of itself. I'm rapidly losing faith in the calendar's usefulness. This doesn't seem to be a problem with items that existed before I upgraded to iOS4.
Can anyone tell me what is happening? I've given up syncing the phone with MobileMe as there seems to a limit of 6 calendars.
My Apple experience is going sour - hope someone can help.

Suddenly on Lion on my new MBA, calendars would start duplicating themselves, every few seconds. I might have a calendar on MobileMe called "Cal1", and it and its events would start mulitplying, so on a Monday where it said "Eat Breakfast" (silly example), I would get 2 of them - then a few seconds later 3 of them (with a whole new calendar also called "Cal1"), and it just kept on growing. I went to iCal, Preferences, Accounts, and I could see them adding themselves in there too, faster than I could delete them.
This was only on my MBA. I am also syncing two other Macs and and iPhone, and they were fine, as was the web-based calendar at MobileMe.
I read around the Net and it was not helping, but I went right back to basics and deleted the plist file for iCal. That stopped it immediately, and over the last few days it's been fine.
Here's how:
I turned off my wireless Internet connection (and the calendars stopped replicating);
I went into my Library folder (which in Lion, which now hides that folder, means that in Finder I went to the Go menu, then "Go to Folder" and typed in "~/Library", and it then appears in Finder under your "User Folder");
in Library, open the Preferences folder;
I found everything in there which said "iCal" in it, and moved them all to some other folder (on the Desktop, for example), in case I needed to put them back later; i.e. they were saved, but effectively deleted from Preferences.
After that, iCal settled right down, and behaved totally normally.
I probably didn't need to delete that many files, but the ones I found were:
com.apple.iCal.plist
com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
com.apple.iCal.Alarm.plist
other apparently "temporary" files like com.apple.iCal.helper.ED60A...plist
and most of these had associated ".lockfile" files (a new[?] thing in Lion) which I read about and then also deleted;
I did not delete com.apple.iCal.help.
Upon restarting iCal and/or re-syncing it, all of these files reappeared immediately, all of my calendars were back (they're stored somewhere else and were ready to go, on my computer), and everthing was cool.
I hate to think how it would have gone had I not been a bit(?) geeky.

Hi,
Lion has changed the way reminders (todos as was) work. They now seem to need to be in a seperate calendar.
In iCal open the File menu and select New Reminder List... and select where to put it.
