Need a new FAST and BIG harddrive!
Hey everyone, we are making a slow switch to HD and we are looking for a external HD that is FAST and BIG. We will be working with a majority of the footage being uncompressed. Our idea is to be able to transport the footage and clips from our different post houses in uncompressed HD. So it needs to be fast, we are lookin at atleast 1 terabyte. Is firewire a sketchy way to go? Keep in mind it needs to be easily portable, from desktop to desktop. Do they make drives this big spin over 10,000 rpm? Thanks in advance.

With uncompressed HD firewire is DEFINATELY out. External SATA Raid might work, but really not as good as a good fibrechannel Raid array.

All make fibrechannel storage. Easily portable? Uh, not really...not with uncompressed HD. External SATA Raid and Fibrechannel Raids require controller cards...I guess you can install cards on all the machines. Or you can look into a SAN system like XSAN where the storage is shared.

Ipod touch 4th gen needed a new screen and sleep/wake switch. So, I replace them. I was able to get to settings and do "erase all content and settings". I am not able to totally shut this device off as it keeps restarting after a few seconds. I have used itunes to restore and also recover. Device will actually shut off and stay shut off if I leave it connected to the computer. The moment I unplug (3 seconds) the apple logo appears, it boots, unlock screen appears, I can unlock and operate normally, unplugged or not. Just cant get it to completely shut down unplugged. Any thoughts?
Try:

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem. Maybe you installed a bad component or damaged something during the repair/replacement.
Apple will not help since you worked on the iPod yourself. -
I need a new phone and iPod, would I be able to use an iPhone as a phone and iPod, without having to purchase the internet date plan?
You cannot do this. iPhones have to be activated with a service plan before any of the features, including the iPod features can be used.

No one here would know Apple's plans. But, if past history holds true, expect a new model iPhone sometime between now & the fall.

and now for the same Sender and Reciever i want to create one more scenario which is again a file to idoc

ThanksNo you need not create a new technical and business system. You can use the existing technical and business system defined for the same source and target system. You just need to go to the "Objects" tab in ID and add the business system to your scenario.
As far as technical and business sytem info:
SLD is based on the CIM model ( Common Information model)
this model clasiifies the system in terms of SWC, Product, TS, BS to list down....
TS--> Technical details of the system likeserver name, IP etc....it mostly identifies the system with it's technically ( this gives option to change the TS in future suupose you change the server or its configuration etc)
BS---> represents the BS usuage identity suppose youa re using the SAP r/3 clnt 100 is sued for develoment activity 200 for QA here the R/3 palys the TS system and 100 200 plays int he Business system....for that particular business wht'a the role of this system......

I need a new printer and would be grateful for your help
I'm a freelancer, currently working from home. I have a big old Epson photo printer, but it runs out of ink way too fast and the new cartridges cost a fortune. I don't need to print photos, or high quality images - I just need to print off creative briefs, storyboards etc.
I'm thinking of an all-in-one device and have done tons of reading online, but am still unsure! I basically want something reliable, not too big, for which I don't have to spend €80 on new ink every couple of months.
Any tips? Thank you.I have three HP AIO PhotoSmart printers that work well with 3rd-party inks. One of black and one for color.

For some reason when I go to update my old itunes version (10.6.3) it wont let me get the new itunes11. I need a newer version of itunes but when I go on my computer to download and get things updated it says it has no new updates. I now have a new phone, since my iphone4 broke and I cant use it because everything it outdated and now I don't know how to update anything. It's taking me all day just to get a working phone!!!

HP Mini 110-3131DX. Hard drive replacement; do I need a new one and where would I get it?
I dropped my HP Mini 110-3131DX directly on it's spine and ever since it only turns on to show the startup screen and these error messages:
HARD DISK ERROR
Please run the hard disk test in system diagnostics.

F2 System Diagnostics
Then, it takes a LONGGGG time to even get me to the right screen to do the test ( I have to restart the computer to be able to renavigate to the screen) and it says Hard Disk test failed. What do I do now? Do I have to put in a new hard drive? Where do I buy my specific new hard drive? I really need some help.

While some might propose building your own, unless you're *really* into computer tech I suggest getting a pre-built system, put together by a reputable company. For maximum future-proofing, it should be a workstation class machine rather than a regular old computer, and one that comes with a solid warranty.
If I were outfitting a brand new machine for graphics / Photoshop use right now, I'd look at the Dell Precision Workstation line. These are the only machines I use in my business.
You really haven't said anything about your budget... These are not inexpensive machines. But they are rock solid stable, they perform really well (and I'm talking THROUGHPUT), and Dell will come fix the machine if it breaks.
Now, if you are looking to not spend quite so much, you can get a just off cutting edge Dell Precision workstation used, even with a warranty still intact (and which can be extended) for a big savings. Believe it or not, eBay can be an excellent source of Precision workstations... I have purchased two this way recently, and I have had nothing but rock solid service from them.
My rule of thumb for pricing a professional, "get real work done" computer is this: Prepare to spend $1,000 for every year you expect to be able to use this computer. If you think you'll be buying another machine in 3 years, then you should look at spending $3,000. Another way to look at it is that if you buy a brand new workstation decked out with all the bells and whistles you might spend $5,000 and that machine will likely be usable (possibly with some minor upgrades, such as adding RAM) for 5 years.

Setting up and managing iPhoto with new Mac and external harddrive
First time Mac user and I'm stressing about iPhoto!
I have the new 13" Macbook Air.
I have my old PC (no longer using) that has all of my old photos on it.
Those photos are also on my Wireless Network Drive.
Have not done anything YET in iPhoto because I want to set it up properly.....that's where I'm stressing.....
Here is how I want it to work, which I fear is not possible or maybe I'm just not understanding the correct setup I need to do to meet my needs:
1. I want all of the old PC pics to stay on the Network Drive only UNLESS I decide to BRING the specific ones into iPhoto down the road.
2. I want new pics I take on my SLR to go to iPhoto (which they will) AND the Network Drive for back up (no problem here)
3. Every now and then I will MOVE the photos OFF of my Mac completely and to the Network Drive to make sure I always have space on the Mac.
I also have iCloud and Time Machine so maybe those could help me as well.
4. This is my biggiest complaint.....when I open a photo in iPhoto and edit it, I WANT TO SEE THE ORIGINAL FILE in iPhoto ALWAYS. After reading tons of message boards it sounds like yes, iPhoto does save the original BUT it is nearly impossible to find and it is labeled very poorly. (I know there is a trick to view the original next to the edited one while you're in iPhoto, but that isn't what I mean). I essentially want to see my edited photo and my original photo just like you would on a PC if you did 'save as new'. I want the original in iPHOTO next to/near the edited one(s) not in a hidden/impossible to find/archived path.
If I'm understanding correctly from what I've read, based on what I want, I may need to use a 'reference library' versus a 'managed library'?
I'm not crazy about doing that though because it seems there are risks because it isn't stored in the 'library package'?
To make a long story short, I want my new pics on my Mac, old pics can stay on the network drive (unless I want to edit them or show someone), and I want to be able to easily access the ORIGINAL file. I want everything to be safely backed up and want the option to move things to the network drive/time machine/cloud or w/e when space gets limited on Mac.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.New photos go to iPhoto, I organize, tag, create albums do whatever. These are also getting backed up in the Cloud and Time Machine (I think?? I still have to research more about how those works....sorry, Mac Newbie)
There is no iCloud backup of photos
Time Machine is good - but it appears that it does not backup the iPhoto library if iPhoto is running so be careful there
If I start to really run out of space, I can move them off Mac completely.
To do that correctly you need an external disk formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) with an iPhoto library on it and use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - to move photos between your MBA iPhoto library and the iPhoto library on the external drive
Regarding issue #4 about the original version, I read one of your posts which explained that the original version can be viewed by going to Home/Pictures/Photo Library Folder/Originals......so I could do that (as long as I don't mess with it). My only concern here is the naming convention that will use- I feel like it will be so hard for me to find the original one I want.
That is not a supported way to access the originals and is dangerous - any change no matter how small can corrput yoru library and cause loss of data and possibly photos - the simple rule is never go into the iPhoto library - there is no reason to - if you wnat the original photo you select it in iPhoto and export as kind = original
Maybe a program like Aperture may be better for me, but again, I'm open to suggestions since you're much more familiar with all of this than I am!
Aperature is more expensive and has many more capabilities including working well with referenced libraries
As to using iPhoto - no one here "encourages" anyone to use iPhoto - in fact for people who want to do things iPhoto does not do or ins not good at we often recommend using other programs - if you want to use it we can help use it correctly - we can not helop you use it incorrectly or make any changes in the way it works -
Assistance needed with new monitor and printing from LR3
I just purchased a new IPS monitor. I have calibrated it using the HP Display assistant that came with it. It is an HP ZR 22w. I saved my calibration as a preset - however - this is not appearing as a profile when I try to select it in the print module. the checkbox for "include display profiles" is ticked. If I allow the printer to manage - the pictures are much warmer than on the IPS display. My printer is a canon mg6120 and I am running windows 7. I would appreciate any assistance that anyone can provide. Thank you
I think the "HP Display assistant" is a software tool, is that right?
Ideally with Lightroom, you should use a hardware calibration/profiling tool (Spyder, Eye One, Color Munki etc). In particular, you need a monitor profile that contains colour space information. I had a look through the HP Display Assistant user manual, and it appears the software does calibration but it probably doesn't put colour space info in the profile. It'll be better than nothing, but a hardware tool is better.

This is not what you want to do! The profile that the HP Display Assistant creates is for the monitor, and only for the monitor. It gets the right white point and tone curve for the monitor. What you need in the profile drop-down in LR print module is a printer profile, not a monitor profile (except on very special circumstances).
I'm not familiar with the MG6120, but when I googled "profiles for canon mg6120" I got a lot of hits, so I assume profiles are available. It's quite likely that some came with the printer driver, and were installed with the printer software. When you select "profile" in LR print module (you may well have to go to "Other..." to see them all) then there should be profiles for the printer - possible lots of them - one or more for each paper type. If they're not there, see the Canon documentation (or google it) to find out how to load them.
If you can't find any profiles for the printer, then try using sRGB (or probably it's "sRGB IEC..."). Without colour management, your printer will probably expect sRGB images, so this should be roughly right, but a specific profile for the printer is better. This is one of those very special circumstances when something other than a printer profile (and sRGB isn't a printer profile) may be better than nothing. -

When I tried the procedure you've recommended I couldn't find/recall my old sync key. I went through the process of resetting and creating a new sync key, but that didn't help...

My friend needs a new router and their while family uses PC's.
So as you can tell from my topic, my friend is upgrading his router, and they only have PC based computer, and I suggested he should get an airport extreme. With the new beamforming technology and the reviews, i figured u cant really go wrong. However, I was reading online that you can't set up one of the new airport extremes without an Apple device, is this true? And if you can install one without a mac, would an airport extreme be a good choice for him, or should he stick to netgear or products like that.
A "new" AirPort Exteme cannot be configured using a PC....but could be configured using an iPad or iPhone.
If your friend does not have an iPad or iPhone, then you should not recommend an AirPort Extreme for him/her. -
Thumbnails need a new home and name!
Hello world. I am trying to figure out two issues im having.
1. i need to have the thumbnails save to a diffrent directory. they now save in the same directorey as the large image in a folder called thumbnails. I need them to save one directory back and in a folder called thumbnais.
2. i need the thumbnails to save without the size being apended. so image_50_50.jpg should be image.jpg.
Please help a brother out. I have looked throught all the dependent files and scripts i can think of but cant figure out how to make this work or where the code is for me to mod.

while the first "saving to a different directory" issue may be tricky to solve, the other one should be much easier:
1. open the file "includes/tng/triggers/tNG_DynamicThumbnail.class.php" and scroll down to the very last function named Execute()
2. in here you´ll see two instances of the variable $thumbnailName with slightly different values, but which all have the image width and height embedded in the to-be-generated thumbnail name.
Please try with modifying the two variable instances as mentioned next, and please backup the original file first
