Need a office-suite editor...

When sw like OpenOffice or Koffice will arrive?
I bought N900 for my businness activity, not to play games on my phone, or just exchange mail, or testing sw for N900 developers.
I really need something to handle Excel, Word (even Access, but I know it will be unlikely..) files or the equivalent OpenOfice documents.
I need a light database (SQLlite?) working on my N900...
N900 could be a great platform for businness usage, but without software it will be a real lemon tree...

I understand your point of view, but I don't want to be a tester for my phone (I have no time to do so):  I bought the "Top Class" (and most expensive) Nokia phone to use it as tablet and Phone, as declared by Nokia itself.
Nokia never stated N900 is a phone to be used to test its or other's applications! N900 is sold as a personal and businness tool and a true PC, so it must have personal and businness software available;  Office-suites editor  or good ToDo/Contacts (don't talk about OviSuite compatibility :-(  ) are the minimum a working guy needs
I know what Maemo community is, like other communities, and I really appreciate the work done and the development in progress.
Anyway It's clear that applications as "Candle" or "Counter", or all the aivalable games, are good exercises, nice to play and show the developers' ability, but these applications are quite uneseful for personal Job needs of people like me.
The problem is Nokia: it sells good hardware without good software , hoping users could join Maemo community and work as developers, for its phone!...
Anyway I still need something to edit my OpenOffice files and a lite database....

I need a good reliable office suite.  Open Office is not working well for me.  Any suggestions?

If you mean Open Office is not always able to correctly open documents received from clients created with MS Office, then the only real solution is to purchase Office 2011 for Mac. As good as some of the free alternatives are, they can't duplicate every feature of MS Office.

  • In need of a DBF editor

I need a simple DBF editor where i can copy and edit data and save to the original DBF format.
It would be great if I can work on and take advantage of some of the tools in Excel (autofill, add, subtract, etc) and then copy and paste the data into the DBF editor and save to DBF format.
I do not understand why something like this is so hard to find. And the software I have found is horrible and is very limited.
I already bought a $2 app from the app store but that thing stunk.
    Any ideas?

You need to tell us what app is saving and using the .dbf files - is it dBase -- or Access?
In theory, Excel can import .dbf files. Have you gotten that far?
One alternative is to get Open Office for Mac (it's free). It can open and save in .dbf and Excel formats.

I have never heard of that either. Do you need to open/edit Microsoft Office documents? If so, I would recommend you give NeoOffice a try first. It's based on the free OpenOffice, but does not require you to install Apple's X11 windowing system first. It's actually worked pretty well for me. If you find that NeoOffice does not meet your needs, then I would save-up to buy a full copy of Microsoft Office for the Mac.

  • After installing Lion, my microsoft office suite doesn't work anymore, and show this message: Application Power PC no longer available. How can I resolve it?

Is there any possibilty to recover the use of my Microsoft Office suite, which doesn't work anymore after installing Lion?
The programs display this error message: "no puede abrir la aplicación Microsoft Excel (o any other) porque las aplicaciones Power PC ya no son compatibles"
    thanks for your help

You will need to upgrade your suite of MS programs.
Older suites, like MS Office 2004, use program versions written for Macs with PPC processors. In order to use those apps in pre-Lion OS's on an Intel-processor machine, it was necessary to install Rosetta, software designed just for the purpose of using PPC-apps on an Intel machine.
Unfortunately, Lion does not support Rosetta, so those apps no longer work.
Solution - update them to a version which will work in Lion, such as the MS Office 2008 suite, or newer if available.

  • Excuse somebody can tell me if I had Pages and Keynote I need Microsoft Office too?

please somebody tell me Today Im goint to buy a macbook pro 13' and I have an ipad with pages and keynote, can I use this app's on the mac ? or I need Microsoft Office

You only need Microsoft Office if you plan to hone your life skills on it as nearly 95% of businesses use it.
However there is a Pages and Keynote version for OS X (sold seperatly), but there is the free LibreOffice suit which is extremely popular amongst Mac users as there is a Windows and Linux versions too, the files are cross compatible and they open/write Office format also.
    https://www.libreoffice.org/
You may have to right or control key click on the app/installer to "open" and confirm to bypass 10.8's Gatekeeper security.

  • Is it true that MS Office Suite will not run on Lion?

is it true that MS Office Suite will not run on Lion?

Office 2004 was written for PowerPC.  To run Office 2004 on an Intel based Mac, you need Rosetta to translate PowerPC instructions to Intel instructions.  OS X Lion no longer includes or supports Rosetta.  As such, any application written for PowerPC no longer work on Lion, including Office 2004.
Office 2008 and Office 2011 were written for Intel.  They'll work just fine on OS X Lion.
To address your problem, you can do one of the following:
    1) Reinstall OS X Snow Leopard from a backup, if you made one.
    2) Upgrade to Office 2011.
    3) You could use a suite of productivity apps that can import Office documents, such as OpenOffice, or Apple's iWorks. There will be some incompatibilities between these applications and Office though.

  • URL schemes for Microsoft Office suite for ipad

    Hello,
I am trying to implement inter-app communication with an app I am creating.  I would like to be able to tap a button in my app, and have an xls document I have put on my web server open in the IOS Excel app.  To do this, I know I need to make use of URL schemes.  I can get the button to open the Excel app itself by using ms-excel://, but I cannot get it to open the server document within the app.
    I tried the following:
ms-excel://HTMLResources/file.xls (referencing it in the resources folder)
ms-excel://http://www.yoursite.com/files/file.xls (referencing it directly via url)
Both of these options simply open Excel, but not the document.
I even tried putting it in a web overlay using html snippets as referenced here: http://blogs.adobe.com/jlockman/2013/04/05/launching-external-apps-from-a-dps-folio/
    No luck.
Does anyone have any ideas, or happen to be familiar with the custom URL schemes for Office for ipad?
I know that the office suite for ipad is relatively new, so I am wondering if anyone out there is familiar with the custom URL schemes for Office for ipad. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Allison
One other note: I have tried this same thing with PDF Expert and it works: (the app makes use of the URL scheme PDFE)
    So,
    PDFEhttp://yoursite.com/files/file.pdf
will open file.pdf in PDF Expert.

You could try creating a new user account on the computer, logging out of the current and into the new one, and checking the behavior then. If that doesn't help, I think you'll have to settle for using NeoOffice or possibly GoogleDocs until you can reinstall Office.

  • Microsoft Office Suite

I have a late 2008 Macbook running Maverick 10.9.3.  I have Micosoft Office items I can no longer open.  What version, if there is one, of Microsoft Office Suite for Teachers can I install to open these files?

OK, so I installed this a few days ago, and now I realize that my calendar has stopped working!?!?
When I check it, ALL my calendar stuff is gone?!?!
I resync with Nokia Suite, tell me that it has now "added" all my dates, but they are not there???
    I check calendar again, nothing...
So I tried to remove the MS App, and it says it is gone, but I still have some MS stuff on the phone and the calendar still doesn't work?!??!
How do I get MS Apps off my phone?
HELP!!!!!! Please... I need my calendar back....

  • My Microsoft Office Suite has disappeared and none of my files will open. What do I do?

I opened up my iMac this morning and for some reason my Microsoft Office suite for Mac had completely disappeared with no trace. Consequently, I can't open any Word related files that I have saved (a box opens saying that Word cannot be found and to re-install it). Unfortunately, I can't find my original software as I have moved recently.
Any suggestions? Do I have to buy a new Office package?

You can restore from your backup however you may need the software key that comes with the original software. If you have not been backing up well now you see why you are supposed to!

  • Microsoft Office Suite Won't Print

Any Microsoft office product will not print and I'm getting this message:
"Word cannnot print due to a problem with a current printer. Make sure you have a printer selected i Print Center. You may need to print again or adjust your printer settings."
This message pops up no matter which printer I select.
Three things may have contributed (or not!):
    1. just added iWork 08 & iLife 08
    2. used the most recent update of Microsoft
    3. printer/fax machine MAY HAVE been plugged into computer when fax tried to transmit (can't remember for sure as I've tried to problem solve)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am having the exact same problem.
    I am running 10.4.10 and Office 11.3.7
I have just reinstalled the office suite and upgraded it.
In all of the office applications, when I try to print, it is unable to create a quick preview in the print dialog box and I am unable to create pdf's or anything else.
In word, the exact error message is
    Microsoft Word Error Message:
"Word cannnot print due to a problem with a current printer. Make sure you have a printer selected in Print Center. You may need to print again or adjust your printer settings."
In Excel, a different message pops up. The message is...
    Microsoft Word Error Message:
Microsoft Excel could not communicate with the printer.
    There are several possible reasons:
    - There may not be enough memory available. Try closing files and programs you aren't using.
    - Your printer or its driver may not be set up correctly. You may need to adjust your printer settings.
    - If you use a network for printing, there may be a problem with the network connections or the printer driver.
    - There may be loose cables or a bad connection between your computer and printer.
I get these messages when Excel is the only program running.
Additionally, I have already reinstalled the printer's drivers (Brother HL2070N).
And yes, I am able to print from every other application I have tried (Safari, pages, numbers etc)
    Thanks in advance!

  • HT2963 Just jumped from OX 10.6.8 to OX 10.8.3. My AppleWorks & MS Office Suite are now kaput.  How do I salvage my existing documents?

Just jumpled from OX 10.6.8 ti IX 10.8.3, May AppleWorks & MS Office Suite are kaput now.  How do I salvage my AppleWorks files?

As you have discovered, you can't run PPC programs such as AppleWorks on Mountain Lion. I assume your Mac previously had 10.6.8 on it: if so you can deal with this by buying an external hard disk and installing Snow Leopard on it from your install disks. Then you can start up from it and run AppleWorks.
Alternatively, success has been reported in running Snow Leopard under emulation in Parallels - the method is described here: it seems complex; however Snow Leopard Server is available in the Apple Store (by telephone) at a reduced price (the last time I checked) and this makes the process a lot easier. I haven't tried either method: use at your own discretion. You can then run AppleWorks as an emergency measure.
However depending on the file types you can open certain of them in programs which will run on Mountain Lion:
Word Processing documents can be opened directly only in Pages (AppleWorks 6 only).
Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store, and you will need v4.0 'Retro' not the most recent version) or Intaglio (though this appears not to be able to handle very complex drawings).
Spreadsheets can be opened directly only in Numbers.
Presentations can be opened directly only in Keynote.
Unfortunately nothing whatever will open Databases or Paint documents.

  • Microsoft Office Suite problems.

got MS Office Suite and hate it already. It has nothing of any use and QuickOffice Pro seems to do the jobs much better. Now I cannot remove the damn thing and it hogs up space on my C: drive. So before I make a balls up of my phone once again, is it possible to remove without re-installing Symbian Belle? Microsoft come up with all sorts of space wasting rubbish it's no surprise WP7 hasn't sold.

Did you try to open teh fle by double-clicking its icon? If the file was made with an older version of Office, you may get that message. Try opeing PP and, from its "File" menu, see if you can open the ppt. I've foundthat often gets around that message and then yo ucan save the file from the newer version.
If that doesn't work, consider asking in the Microsoft Office: Mac forums here:
    Office for Mac forums
PowerPoint is not an Apple product and it seems a lot of people around here avoid Office.
