Need a printer for MacBook Pro - ideas?

I need a printer for my MacBook Pro. I want to be able to copy, print, scan and fax, and I want wireless capabilities. Considering an Epson Workforce 845 that had a good review on cnet. Any input would be appreciated.
Cassandra

I just ordered the HP C410a from Amazon.
It was rated very high on the list of Consumer Reports tested printers.
The Epson Workforce 845 was not tested, But the Workforce 840 and 835 were 2/3's down the list of approx.54 all-in-ones. They only rated fair at most of the printers functions. They had a $1.00 more per month ink cost then the HP. The HP, I linked, was rated very good to excellent on all it's function tests and placed 4 from the top of the list.
Interesting to me, out of the 54 printers not many had a fax function!
How can you say you are an all-in-one when you only scan, copy and print? I know faxing is less used these days but I still need it on occasion.

  • Reliable, Affordable Printer for Macbook Pro w/ Retina??

I apologize ahead of time if this is being posted in the wrong place, but i'm looking for advice on getting a good printer for my Macbook Pro w/ Retina. I currently have an old Dell 1320c and although it setup fine and prints correctly the toner is now printing in gray and the lack of proper driver support makes troubleshooting the printer very difficult. In light of my recent printer troubles I decided to come here for some printer suggestions. As far as price range, I would like to spend no more than $150 for a new printer but if jumping up to $200 or something close greatly improves the quality, i'm open to more suggestions. This printer would only be used by myself at home and strictly for school assignments like word documents, powerpoints w/ pictures, etc. nothing too intense. I would not be printing actual photos and I don't think I need the speed of a laser printer to be honest. I would like a printer with GOOD support, meaning I can easily replace cartridges and not have to worry about replacing my printer for at least 2 years. Dell cartridges were pretty expensive and a lot of people had the same gray output problem that I experienced before the printer even reached 1000 prints. Regardless, this baby lasted me a good 4-5 years before giving me real trouble so I'm hoping a decent printer won't be hard to find.
My main concern is compatibility! I want a printer that is fully compatible with my macbook pro and allows me to utilize their menu services, easily access printer menus, check ink, etc. After that I just want something reliable and consistent with good product support. I will be using the printer every week during school to print notes and assignments, but not photographs and no need for a scanner. I'm not sure what other information to include but I hope I covered enough to give you guys an idea of what im looking for. Ive had trouble with DELL products in general so maybe just a different brand suggestion would be helpful but thanks ahead of time!
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I don't mind wireless vs. usb as long as theres not much price difference. Also it might be worth noting that the macbook I have has no CD drive so I would want a printer that I can set up without a CD drive, thanks!

I don't have a specific recommendation, but if at all possible you should choose an AirPrint-enabled printer from the (possibly incomplete) list in the linked support article. It will need no software or configuration, and will work with iOS devices.

  • What is the best and affordable printer for macbook pro?

hi.... i have difficulties in printing my assignments... which i need to save my work using my thumbdrive then open it at windows to print....therefore, i want to buy a printer that can works with my macbook pro...what is your advice? i have tried to install hp printer but cant support my mac...really need your advice before i buy the new printer..

It sounds as if you need a multi-function printer, with both wireless and AirPrint capabilities. A laser printer is usually back-and-white only, although there are color laser printers. Injest are probably the most common but they can go through some ink, resulting in some hefty cash being laid out for ink (although color laser printers have, likely, the highest consumable costs).
I've had good luck, over the decades, with Canon inkjet printers. Take a look at the Canon website and look at the "3-in-1" inkjet printers that offer wireless and AirPrint capabilities, copy functions, and scanner functionality as well.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Need OS disk for macbook pro mid 2010

The hardest part of holding on is letting go. This is how I feel about my MacBook pro mid 2010 edition. I have been having issues with it so I neglected it for some time. I put in a new hard drive and then installed Yosemite. It runs a little slow but works great for Netflix and other non required uses. The problem I am having is that the processor pegs at 100% randomly. I don't see anything under the monitor using the cpu so I am wondering if I have a hardware issue. When I hold down the D key at bootup I thought it would start diagnostics but it doesn't. My research tells me I need to install the original os but I can't find the disk.
    Thoughts?

    Niel,
See if you can help this person: MacBook Pro late 2011 won't start up.

  • Do I need internet Protection for Macbook Pro

When I bought my Macbook Pro, I bought Norton Internet security as well. It has expired now. Do I need to renew it or is it protected?

Uninstall Norton, it is not needed, will slow the Macs performance down considerably and interferes with how the Mac operates.
All the internet security you will need is built in to Mac OS and is updated free.

  • Need a UPS for MacBook Pro... suggestions?

OK, heres one for you tech guys. We are heading from the US to Albania... read frequent brownouts, outages daily, surges, spikes, you name it- generally crappy power quality. So we have a host of little darling toys that we would like not to be destroyed by such bad behavior and it looks like a surge protector is not sufficient and that a good UPS might be the solution.
We dont need to necesarily keep running, just shut down or protect the batteries as they charge and protect a couple of external drives.
We have 2 MBP's 2 printers 2 external drives (plus a few ipad/pod/ phones randomly charging).
Any thoughts? Sounds like some will actually detect the outage and shut the computer down automatically? How about line-interactive vs on-line..... ?
For an extra bonus: the voltage there is 240v and we will have transformers to step the voltage down. Any problems you can see with this? Transformer to surge protector to UPC the way to go?
Open to suggestions and ideas of any specifc models that have worked for other folks.
    Appreciate the help.

  • Need new printer for MacBook

I'm distressed! Can anyone tell me which black and white reasonably priced printers work with my MacBook? I want information from those who have printers that are USB plugin and work right out of the box with a MacBook. I am so confused by everything being offered and the Apple site lists so few basic printers (everything is for photos).
    Thanks,
    Lisa...

Any USB printer will work provided there's an OS X compatible printer driver. You can check this list of printers known to be compatible. You can also check the manufacturer's support web site to determine if an OS X compatible driver is available for that printer. Buying from a vendor that supports Apple will also be helpful since they are not likely to sell printers that will not work with Macs.
Most non-laser printers being sold today are all color capable as well as black and white. It may be difficult to find a non-laser printer that only prints black and white.
Hewlett-Packard, Epson, Brother, Lexmark, and Canon, for example, all have many different models that are compatible (but not all models are compatible.)

  • Wireless or Network Printer for MacBook Pro?

I'm looking for a new printer to replace my HP PhotoSmart. I'm very frustrated with the performance and the hassles communicating with it on my network. If you have found a good "non-HP" printer/scanner for my mac, that I can communicate with wirelessly or on my Apple Airport Extreme wifi network, I'd sure like to hear about it. I used to own a Canon, and it seemed to work well. I guess it should have AirPrint capabilities too, and work well with Mountain Lion.
Any suggestions would be VERY appreciated.
    Cheers, Shiba Dog

The AEBS is a wireless router, not a cable modem. A good cable modem is the Motorola 5120 but it is not wireless.
Yes, the AEBS is pricey but it's an excellent product. However, if you wish not to spend that kind of money there are less expensive products by LinkSys, Belkin, D-Link and others. However, none have any Mac support although most all of them will work with Macs - some better than others.

  • Need a printer for my old iBook (old apps won't translate) but also for a MacBook Pro, 10.6.8! Anything compatible?

Need a printer for my old iBook (old apps won't translate) but also for a MacBook Pro, 10.6.8! Anything compatible?

If I understand this correctly, you wish to print from the iBook under Mac OS 9.2.x and from the MacBook Pro under Mac OS X 10.6.8 (no AppleTalk support in the latter).
What type of printer did you have in mind? Does it have to be colour? Otherwise, a monochrome laser printer may be the best choice (high print quality and a low per page cost). A networkable PostScript printer may be the most compatible. Additional information would make it easier for someone here to suggest a solution.
If you would be willing to accept some extra work and certain limitations, another way could possibly be to "print" to a PDF file on the iBook via a printer driver called PrintToPDF, and then transfer this file to the MacBook Pro and carry out the "real" printing there.
