Need a "Solid" Backup/Restore software with boot image capability

I need to perform a system image of my Mini back (maybe once/month) and then perform daily backups of the Boot drive, and extended journal partition.
I would normally use Time Machine, but I really want a turn-key, no hassle solution that works time and time gain. I need suggestions from anyone out there. So far, I found 3-Backups (a software solution by OWC "One World Computing") and it comes as part of their SATA-Dsik package solutions. The cost is $30, not bad, but I'm not very confident about the solution itself. I need recommendations from people that are using a great solution, mind you, it doesn't have to be an Enterprise class software package, just as long as it is easy to use and renders good results and easy restores.
Any help is appreciated .....

Carbon Copy Cloner. It is free although you can donate and you can give it root access so it backs up everything. You can also schedule backups (which I do) for how often you want. I have mine setup to backup my server every morning at 2 a.m. and it only backups changed files.
I have already had to rely on it since I had to reinstall my Snow Leopard Server yesterday due to other issues. I can't vouch how easy it is to reinstall the entire backup but I did use it to copy over files after I had reinstalled SLS.

  • SAP SQL System Copy backup restore method with ADS(Adobe document services)

    Hello all,
    i´m preparing a system copy with ERP 6.0 in windows and SQL server with ADS.
    I have a doubt, can i do the System Copy backup/restore method with ADS??
    or the only method that works is with system export/import in all instances??
    Thank you

    Hi Oscar,
    Is your ADS system separate from your ERP system, or are they on the same server?
    In any case, you can use backup/restore to copy a Java system, but you must also make a system export/import for the Java server components.  The two work in conjunction, so that the export tool doesn't export your whole database, only the components maintained in the filesystem.  If you select the database detach/attach or backup/restore method in the tool when going against the Java system, it will prompt you at the right point in the process to make your Java export as well.
    The caveat is that the Java export requires downtime, so it isn't possible to copy a Java system without impacting system availability, as it is with a pure ABAP system.
    Best regards,
    Matt

  • Contacts deleting by themselves and iPhone needs a full backup restore after refusing to sync with iTunes. - Pls Help!

    I have had my new iPhone 5s since the middle of December 2013 and I really enjoy it, however, I'm finding the iOS a little unstable.
    I backup often - whether to iCloud or to my iMac at my office or to my Acer Windows 7 based Notebook at home, and I have had to do a full backup restore of my phone software after it suddenly refused to sync with iTunes. The only option open to me was "Restore iPhone" which also is a nuisance and takes a little while if you have a lot of content on your phone. I've had to do this 3 times now and it's getting on my nerves!
    Also, as I type this, my contacts are suddenly removing themselves from my phone book. I discovered this as I was going through my Whatsapp messages when I noticed a few numbers in my recent chats that didn't have names or contact pictures. When I scrolled to the top of the message, I noticed that the "add contact" detail was suddenly available. I immediately checked my phone book and noticed that those contacts are no longer available. A lot of my numbers are suddenly showing up like this within the last hour and I haven't changed any settings at all. I back up to my notebook and iCloud once a week. This problem is a first for me  as well.
    I must point out that I never had these issues with my iPhone 3GS which was only becoming cumbersome due to its outdated OS and because of its processing speed.
    Will I need to wait for the next IOS Update to solve this problem, or will I have to find an alternative solution?
    Any advice you have to offer would be most welcome.

    Simplify your question,will you? I have trouble in reading such a long English article.

  • Satellite P870 - simple image backup & restore software required

    Does anyone know of simple disk imaging software to back up and restore C: drive including the OS and every file.
    I used to use BartPE which had the shell of Windows XP on the CD and booted from the CD and allowed an image to be made or restored. It didn't matter if the PC's OS was broken was a simple OS on the CD plus Norton Ghost 8.
    My Satellite P870 can only boot from a USB (selected in the BIOS) and I've been unsuccessful getting my BartPE to boot from a USB. Similarly I installed Odin Imaging software but it doesn't boot from the USB either, though I can run it from Explorer (but relies on Windows 8 loading properly).
    I also downloaded Paragon Free Data Recovery but it wants to install the program on the laptop. I want a purely portable drive/image copying program.

    Firstly, I have to correct where I said the P870 does not boot from the optical drive. Both USB and ODD are options. In the process I managed to create a bootable USB with EaseUS and a bootable CD with Paragon Backup & Data Recovery 2013 (free version). However the laptop would not boot from the USB or CD despite setting USB or ODD at the number 1 position in the BIOS.
    The following changes to the BIOS (version 2.30) does cause the laptop to boot from the USB or CD as the case may be, however it is not a permanent solution as the laptop will not boot into Windows even if there is no USB device attached or a CD/DVD in the ODD.
    Set Secure Boot to disable. Set Advanced System Configuration Boot Mode to CSM Boot.
    When the job is done Boot Mode will need to be put back to UEFI Boot. If there is a better way whereby the settings do not have to constantly be changed, Id be interested but its not important for my needs.
    On using EaseUS to back up C: drive, I could not see the 2 partitions I had created from splitting C drive so I put it aside and tried Paragon Backup & Data Recovery 2013 (free version). I had to download the install the program on the laptop and from there, create a bootable CD (or USB).
    That all worked smoothly as did running the program.
    There is no need to keep the program on the laptop once the bootable USB/CD is created though I have not reviewed it for other useful operations.
    The commands are relatively intuitive and the help answered one question I had along the way.
    The only confusing thing I found was when restoring the data and being confronted with a string of drives to copy the data back to. Following the process of elimination I chose F drive in my case based on the drive size. The only odd thing was the cursor; each time I touched the track pad with a second finger, the cursor flew to the left or right.
    That might be peculiar to the P870 and Windows 8 its pretty much straight out of the box with virtually no software installed by myself (yet).
    As for my old BartPE, it caused the blue screen of death twice in succession so it is relegated to use only with my old XP laptop.

  • Problems with Disk Utility backup & restore via DMG disk images

    I attempted to backup and restore a 2TB external raid storage device using the recommended Disk Utility procedure for 10.6.6. One of the HDDs in the raid enclosure had started to fail.
    First step was to create a new image from the 2TB device. I accepted the defaults of compressed image format and no encryption. The image took about 15 hours to create, and when complete, I was left with 2 files:
    OWC2TB.dmg (1.1TB)
    OWC2TB.002.dmgpart (486GB).
    To check the DMG I ran the Disk Utility "Verify Disk" on the DMG, and got the message "The volume OWC2TB appears to be OK". The DMG is described in DU as:
    Description: Apple UDIF read-only compressed (zlib)
    Connection Bus: Disk Image
    Total Capacity: 2 TB
    Disk Write Status: Read Only
    Partition Map Scheme: No partition map
    I then replaced the failing HDD in the enclosure, recreated a new 2TB filesystem on the device, and attempted to restore from the DMG image.
    The first attempt was to use Disk Utility "Restore" function. I specified the DMG as the source and the new device as the destination, and chose "Erase Destination". This failed immediately with the error "Restore failure. Could not find any scan information. The source images needs to be imagescanned before it can be restored".
    After researching this error I tried to correct it by selecting the DMG in Disk Utility and running Images => Scan Image for Restore. This failed immediately, complaining there was insufficient disk space. More research revealed it needed the same amount of spare space on the same disk to do an imagescan. So I had to free up an EXTRA 1.5TB of space in addition to the space the DMG consumed. Not very user friendly.
    The next attempt to imagescan the DMG got further than the "insufficient space" error. It displayed "Scanning image OWC2TB.dmg, Block Checksum Partition #1". This ran for about 10 hours. At the end, it displayed a new error message "Unable to scan OWC2TB.dmg (internal error)".
    Next I tried to mount the DMG and copy the files manually. My first attempt at this resulted in a "Verifying..." phase which looked like it will take about 10 hours, so I clicked "Skip". Soon after I got an error message "Unable to attach OWC2TB.dmg (no mountable file systems).". Now I am trying a mount with the Verify option...
    Can anyone suggest what I can try next to restore the DMG?
    I think the problem might be the fact the DMG is split in two parts, but the imagescan/restore software does not know how to read the second part? Is there a way to join these into a single DMG?

  • Issues with Boot Images & PXE Booting Since SP1 Install

    Good Afternoon All -
    I recently updated to SP1, had some issues, but they got resolved.  Now, though, I'm having an issue booting to PXE as well as updating any boot images created
    before SP1 was installed.  Booting to USB Bootable media using a newly created boot image seems to work fine.
    Boot Images
    When I update my DPs for any of my boot images in SCCM, they fail and i get the below error:
      Error: The wizard detected the following problems when updating the boot image.
    • Failed to install required components into the boot image
    The SMS Provider reported an error.: ConfigMgr Error Object:
    instance of SMS_ExtendedStatus
    • Description = "Failed to insert OSD binaries into the WIM file";
    • ErrorCode = 2152205056;
    • File = "e:\\nts_sccm_release\\sms\\siteserver\\sdk_provider\\smsprov\\sspbootimagepackage.cpp";
    • Line = 4566;
    • ObjectInfo = "CSspBootImagePackage::PreRefreshPkgSrcHook";
    • Operation = "ExecMethod";
    • ParameterInfo = "SMS_BootImagePackage.PackageID=\"BBS0012F\"";
    • ProviderName = "WinMgmt";
    • StatusCode = 2147749889;
    I've even gone as far as removing all drivers from the boot image, but still get the same message.  I was able to create a couple of
    new MDT boot images which seem to work fine, though.  I am not sure which log file is for boot images, but nothing appeared in distmgr.log.
    PXE Booting Issue
    After trying many things, I removed PXE config from my site and uninstalled WDS then started all over again.  Here's what I did and my results.  Please tell me what I'm missing...
    After uninstall & server reboot, I enabled PXE + every option in DP tab in SCCM
    It automatically installed WDS (same server) and added the two boot images I had checked for PXE use.  one x64 and one x86.
    I checked my DHCP Scope whose values hadn't changed sine it worked (that I know of).  They are:
    Option #66: 192.168.20.37 (SCCM Server/DP/PXE)
    Option #67 \boot\x86\wdsnbp.com.  I've tried \boot\x86\pxeboot.com as well as each of these with x64.
    When I PXE boot from a workstation, I receive an IP, a bit of info, then it goes to Contacting Server....  When trying one of the boot files above, I was prompted for F12, but receved a blue screen with error.  When trying all other boot files,
    they just hang at Contacting Server until they timeout.
    I looked at SMSPXE.log and found something interesting...
    The IDs for the two boot images I have assigned to PXE are ABC003B3 & ABC00B36.  In the smspxe.log, though, it keeps repeating "could not find boot image ABC0012F!  12F does exist and is a boot image,
    but not the one I want to use by any means and does not have PXE checked.
    I went ahead and checked 12F, updated DPs (which failed - see above); unchecked it; then updated the DPs again.  PXEBoot.log showed that it was trying to remove the 12F files from RemoteInstall which was a good sign.  I then restarted the WDS service
    and tried PXE booting again.  Yet again, it failed and was still looking for 12F.
    Any suggestions / Ideas???  Thanks!
    UPDATE 1
    I just changed option #67 to \smsboot\x86\pxeboot.com then restarted the WDS service.  I booted to PXE and this time was asked to hit F12.  I did so and it looked as if it would work.
    Instead, I got a blue screen with the following error:
    Recovery
    Your PC needs to be repaired
    The boot configuration disk contains errors or is missing
    file: boot\BCD
    Error Code: 0x000000f
    I think that it's the same error as before, but is blue instead of black due to new Win8ADK perhaps.  Thanks
    Ben K.

  • Cannot backup Windows 7 (dual-boot) image to external HD (formated as Mac OS Extended)

    I cannot backup my Windows 7 (dual-boot) image to my external HD (formated as Mac OS Extended). I installed MacDrive 8.0 hoping to solve the problem but Windows 7 gives me an error when I try to create a backup: "...drive is not formatted as NTFS, cannot use as backup...".
    I also tried making an Image of the Windows 7 partition through Disk Utility but was not allowed to do so.
    I am not sure where else to go from here. I need to keep my external hard drive formatted as Mac OS Extended but I also need to backup my Windows 7 partition. I only have the single external at the moment. Is there a way to backup my Windows 7 partition?
    Thanks

    Winclone will backup your Windows partition to a Mac formatted drive.
    Just search for Winclone on this forum and on Goggle.

  • Operating System on x64 can be deployed with boot image x86

    Hi,
    I want to know if there is any limitation to deploy Operating System and Wim image on x64 (64 bit) using a boot image x86 (32 bits)
    Thanks

    Hi,
    That is what I'm trying to accomplish because during the years with SCCM 2007 we were available to deploy x64 OS
    (windows 7, 8, 8.1) using x86 boot image without any problem. Since we migrated to SCCM 2012 R2 CU 2 we have experimenting different and
    intermittent issues:
    we are using x86 boot image to deploy x64 OS and
    x64 drivers package. When the system reboot to start the setup, we get a black screen with a movable cursor (but nothing to click on!).
    when I change the task sequence to use x64 boot image (note: using the same x64 OS and same drivers package) the process continue with success.
    I'm searching any technical documentation from Microsoft to better understand this issue. What can be the reason why it work fine with x64 boot image and not with x86.

    i have been using LV 7.1 with vision acquisition software installed from cd that came with IMAQ card.  i installed a full developement of LV8.5 and when i installed vision acquisition software there are no VIs that show up in the "vision and motion" functions.  i need to find IMAQdx functions to read my 1394 IEEE camera.
    is this a version issue?  what can i do to get tthe 1394 functions in LV8.5.

    Dear arawtry,
    Yes, this looks like a version issue. You need NI-IMAQdx 3.1 or later, which comes with Vision Acquisition Software 8.5 or later. You can determine version requirements from the following KnowledgeBase article:
    NI-IMAQ and NI-IMAQdx Compatibility with Different LabVIEW Versions
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/6B55FF09D1FBD3108625719600650B7C?OpenDocument
    I believe downloading and installing the latest version of the Vision Acquisition Sofware should solve your problem:

    I plan on picking up the new IPHONE at my lunch break at work. I cannot access ITUNES on my work computer, but was wondering if I took my IPAD to work with me, could I setup my new IPHONE using the IPAD?

    No, you need iTunes, but the apple store can setup your new phone and transfer your contacts etc.

  • Do I need to install XP from Scratch, with Boot Camp

    Dear All
    My PC decided to pack in which runs Win XP, I also have a Mac but need to use Windows for various other apps, I am considering upgrading to Leopard and noticed Boot Camp for dual boot.
    My question really is, would I be able to remove the Disk Drive from the PC and connect it into the Mac and it run OK, or do I need to re-install Windows XP from the start?
    Help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks

    As you have a PowerMac G5, you (as already stated) can NOT use Boot Camp.

    In "theory" you could use Virtual PC, but this will not allow you to do what you want to do.

  • HT1766 backup restore problem with itouch

    my computer crashed so i lost my itouch backup.   i connected the itouch to a new computer,  to update the iOS.  it asked me to unlock by itouch, which i did successfully on the device.  all seemed to go well except last step on computer asked for password, didn't work?  what do i do now??  thanks!

    new to this but.....   after going through about 10 min of backup and messages that indicated it was being successful, it asked me for a password to finish the process, of course i entered my itouch (4 number) password and it said it was incorrect.   i had just used it to unlock the itouch at the beginning when it asked me to.  so it doesn't make sense?  additional info.  the itouch is three years old and the first thing it asked before starting was to update the iOS which it seems to done sucessfully ie the home screen is new.
