Need a Translator for a Kernal Panic Error Message

Hey, this error log came up after my Mac Pro wouldn't startup, got the grey screen error message to restart. It came on after a restart, but I'm trying to figured out what went wrong. Anyone have some advice?

A user in another forum asked me this question. I realize this is hardly a new topic, but below was my answer. I figured I would post it here and get your thoughts as well. Perhaps this and your comments will be helpful for others with the same question.
One question; I do not have an antivirus installed. Does a Mac need an antivirus installed? if yes, what would you recommend?
Does a Mac "need" antivirus software? Though this can be a controversial topic with some, my simple answer is "No". Personally, in the some 20 years I have been using Macs I have never installed an antivirus program. During that same time I have never been infected by a Mac-targeted virus/trojan/worm etc.
That is not to say that trojans and vulnerabilities have not existed. But the truth is, unlike PCs, Macs simply do not make good targets for these kinds of attacks. For the most part, for a Mac to become compromised a user has to permit it by lowering their defenses or manually installing some infected software package. On the other hand many PCs can become infected without any effort on the users part. Thus the need for every PC to be running antivirus software. After everything has been said and done, the truth is attacks on the Mac have simply not been very effective. Whereas, a PC virus can be spread worldwide within hours and days.
Macs also enjoy the benefit of being a less attractive target for hackers. If you are a virus designer, you want your product to have the most impact, and make headlines. As a result you are going to target the largest sector of the computing population - PCs. Additionally, most of the more recent attacks by hackers have been to establish what are called 'botnets'. These are large numbers of compromised PCs connected together via the internet, all controlled by one or more criminal entities. Most of these PC owners are unaware that their computers has been silently taken over to be used for gleaning information for identity theft or to distribute spam email worldwide. Since Macs are a completely different platform, and their numbers significantly fewer than PCs, it's simply not worth the effort to design software to include Macs in these botnets.
That doesn't mean that I do not observe safe computing practices. Think twice before downloading any file being offered by 3rd-party websites. If it is not from a known/trusted website then avoid it. Carefully, review emails you receive from unknown senders. Are there attachments you were not expecting to receive? DO NOT click on them. Avoid passing on chain emails of cute pictures, clever jokes, and interesting facts. These kinds of emails can actually be very effective ways for hackers to distribute hidden computer viruses because they know people can't resist passing on these kinds of email messages. In nearly every instance, I will read these kinds of emails, and then hit Delete.
Avoid advertising your primary email address to the world. That is, resist using your email address to fill-out contest forms or signing up for websites or various offers that are simply attempts at gleaning personal information. Guard your email address like you would any other personal information. If you must submit an email address to an unknown entity, use a special email address (or alias) set up just for these instances. Then when that email account becomes clogged with spam, close it and setup another one. But reserve your primary email address just for family, friends, & business use.
Finally, antivirus software for the Mac is notoriously problematic. At best, it simply slows your system down. At worst, it introduces points of failure and crashes that are simply not necessary. And such software often interferes with normal processes such as Time Machine backups, MobileMe syncing, and file transfers. Also, antivirus software can only protect you from 'known' threats. If there are no legitimate 'known' threats to the Mac right now, what are you protecting yourself against? If a genuinely virulent new virus/trojan suddenly appears among the Mac community, then you will either, buy antivirus software at that point, or already be infected, at which point you will buy antivirus software at that point. But running antivirus software now will not protect you against an unknown threat.
Some will argue that, while the Mac itself is less likely to become infected, you should still run antivirus software as it is designed to catch PC viruses that you might pass on to PC users. That is a personal decision. However, my position is this, if I'm going to observe save computing practices, then I am unlikely to pass on any PC viruses to begin with. Why slow down my own system for the benefit of others if I'm unlikely to behave in a way that will compromise their computers?
So, again, while it is a personal choice, the above answer is why I, personally, do not run antivirus software at this time.
Cheers!

  • How to search for a standard sap error message

    Hi all,
I want to know where exactly we need to search for a standard sap error message ( For example like STACK_NO_ROLL_MEMORY).
I am searching the same in sap market place/oss note search...but don't see what I am looking for ...
Could you please help on the same ?
    Thanks,

    Hi Shravan,
Normally system throws up an error when it reaches the threshold point. Normally the threshold / critical points are arrived at by considering the SAP recommended values and what is the sytem configuration you have got.
In true project scenario because of budget constraints we might not be able to have ideal system configuration which SAP recommends , in that case we have to tune to the system perform at an optimum level considering various aspects
In yr case memory parameters should have been set at level , but for yr job it needed more memory which it could not allocate and throwed an error.
hope i have answered yr question .
    Regards

  • Kernal panic error

Been having problems with imac for weeks now, cutting off after using for a short period of time. Had sent it away to be repaired 3 times, first 2 times the logic board was replaced, the 3 time the logic board and power supply were replaced. Got it back today and instead of cutting off it is now displaying kernal panic errors after being on for approx 15 mins.
Here is the report that displays when turning it back on, can anyone help?

    Aurora,
It appears you have Sophos antivirus software installed on your computer. This appears to be what is causing the KP. Because there are no viruses for OS X having antivirus software is not necessary, I'm guessing you may have come from a PC background and may be carrying the notion antivirus software is necessary for OS X too. Antivirus software frequently causes more issues than it solves as you are now seeing. Try following the manufacturers instructions for uninstalling, then uninstall, once you have removed it empty the trash. Next restart the computer in Safe Mode to clear some of the caches. Then restart normally and see how your computer performs.

  • Kernal panic error - Etrecheck report inside

So I just tried upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion and got the dreaded kernal errors upon reboot. From reading these posts, it seems 3rd party software may be the problem.
I ran Etrecheck, but I can't decipher it enough to figure out where my problem lies.
Can someone walk me through the problem here, and how to rid it?
    Problem description:

New log after deleting a bunch of programs and files. Still getting the kernal error. Going to wait until morning, and if I can't figure it out then, time for a clean wipe and install.

  • Kernal Panic Errors

Hey guys, I've got a bit of an issue.
I work at a computer repair shop, and none of us really have any knowledge of macs.
I'm getting kernal panic errors and random times, tested the RAM and HDD to no avail. Seems to happen when the computer wakes up from sleep, but not every time.
From what I see, looks like it might be graphics drivers, but not 100% sure.
I belive its the late 2011 model, running an i5 at 2.4, 4gb of ram, 13" screen.
Here's the error i'm getting, thanks for the help,
    Cheers!

Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics.
The dependency indicates HD3000 which is the onchip GPU that is part of the CPU. I would guess the CPU has gone faulty, but that is purely a guess on my part. It certainly would seem there is a hardware failure.
I would start by booting it into Safe Mode and running a while. If it does not panic then restart normally. See if the panics now cease. If they don't, then reinstall OS X. See if that fixes the problem. If it does not then create  new user account. Boot into the new account and see if the panics stop. If that also fails:
If the drive is intact try booting from the Recovery HD and see if it still panics. If it doesn't panic, then erase the Macintosh HD volume and do a fresh installation of OS X.
If none of this is helpful, then there's likely a hardware failure.

    Hi @Chazzie,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are getting an error message on your printer's display and that you cannot use any of the buttons. I am happy to look into this for you!
For further assistance, I will need some additional information:
The Product/Model Number of your printer. Follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number.

  • CCMS monitoring for SAPconnect based on Error Message Numbers

    Hi,
We are trying to use the CCMS monitoring to produce alerts for SAPconnect based specific Error Message Numbers for emails for example, however the monitoring function or data collection method for SAPconnect (BCOMAL_SXDS) does not provide that level of granularity.  Has anybody faced this same problem and can provide a recommendation for this?
    Thanks,
    Javier

    Hello,
You can see the message details in SE91.
In FI, you can control the message number in OBA5. Normally message numbers are issued like this
    AA165
First two digits (alpha) is called application area next digits are called message number.
Sometimes, you may not be able to see the messages in OBA5, in such case you need to go to OBMSG transaction code and include the message number to your application area, then you need to come to back to OBA5 to make it information / warning / switch off / error (as the case may be)
    Regards,
    Ravi

    Hello Bdev15,
I would be concerned too if the songs I purchased from iTunes were not downloading to my iPhone. You have taken some great troubleshooting steps already, and thank you for providing the details of the steps you too.  I have a few additional suggestions to get it downloaded to your iPhone.
First, I recommend checking to see if the download was interrupted:
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
Enter your account name and password if prompted.
Tap the blue download arrow to resume.
iTunes: How to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1725
If the songs still do not download, next I recommend downloading the songs when connected to another network.  For example, if you are using the cellular network, you could switch to Wi-Fi, or you could try an alternate Wi-Fi network.  Follow the steps in the section titled "iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch > Music" in the article below to download the songs:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If you are still not able to download the songs, you can report an issue with these purchases using the steps in this article:
How to report an issue with your iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBookstore purchase

    Hello jayparks41
There are a few things to try and the article below can walk you through them before trying to hunt down a Snow Leopard install disk. I will say that it may come down to reinstall Snow Leopard but also before any troubleshooting, make sure to have a safe copy of your data.

  • I need a fix for adobe reader download error

The same error message has been popping up when I try to download the adobe pdf reader. Here is the image:
I have tried every single fix that I have found in the discussions and forums. None have worked for me. Can someone please tell me if there is something new? Thank you.

    I did a Google search for https://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&q=error+1935.+an+error+occurred+during+the+ins tallation+of+assembly+component+{B708EB72-AA82-3EB7-8BB0-D845BA35C93D}.+hresult%3A+0x80070 422.&oq=error+1935.+an+error+occurred+during+the+installation+of+assembly+component+{B708E B72-AA82-3EB7-8BB0-D845BA35C93D}.+hresult%3A+0x80070422.
This yields many results.  I did not look at them all, but the most promising one was that a potential Windows Update was still running in the background, e.g. updating .NET Framework or Visual C++ runtime.  Once the Windows Update was complete, the user could successfully install Adobe Reader.
Can you check with the Task Manager (Processes tab) if some updates are going on (e.g. presence of MSIEXEC or such).

  • MS-9130 trying onboard SATA for first time, BIOS error messages

I have a K8T/MS-9130 based system with a single OPTERON 144 CPU and 2GB RAM. It was in service for a long time, then stored, now I am returning it to service but need to use SATA HDD.
When I enabled SATA on BIOS, I now receive messages like this, during BIOS start-up:
"TAB Key into user Window" (however, when I hit TAB key, nothing happens)
"Hardware initiate failed, g to continue"
My SATA HDD (generic 400 GB Western Digital), SATA data cable and SATA power cable were all tested temporary on a PCI SATA card in the same computer, and found to work OK. I have several SATA devices planned, so I wish to use on-board SATA interface (2 ports available.)
Under Windows 2000 SP4, the device manager shows error for RAID SATA with this message: "Device cannot start (Code 10).
    System information during BIOS start-up:
    MS-9130 BIOS mainboard V1.3 071304
    SATA Bios 2.02
    Thank you for any help,
    Dave

I now understand this is a frequent reported problem - when I read the forum "sticky" messages (of course, after I posted this new message, I am sorry to say), I believe the VIA VT8237 is a problem with SATA-2 drive interface, and my drive(s) is/are probably SATA-2 drive interface.
I am sorry to waste the attention! This is probably why the reseller told me at the time (2007) that the onboard SATA was not recommended with this mainboard, but I had forgotten.
Anyway, I will find multi-port SATA PCI card and continue.
If this is not the common SATA-2 problem, then maybe I can get help?
    Thank you,
    Dave

  • Specify the update for line ID COP Error message

    Hi Experts,
I get the following error message
Specify the update for line ID COP
    Message no. KJ335
    Diagnosis
You have assigned cost elements to line ID COP, but you have not yet specified the results analysis cost elements under which the results analysis data is to be written for this line ID.
    Procedure
Go into Customizing and specify the results analysis cost elements under which the results analysis data is to be written for line ID COP.
However in T code OKGB i have linked COP to cost elements for Expense accounts and ZMA for Balance sheet accounts. Also i OKGA i have give different secondary cost elements for WIP and Reserves. and for ZMA same secondary cost elements for WIP as well as reserves
In OKGB i have given the balance sheet account and the expence GL
Is there anything that i have missed
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,
      Please read note 525804.
1> If KJ161 is issued for a cost element which is intentionally not assigned to a line-ID, please follow the instructions of note 302823 to solve this issue.
The note 302823 gives details on how to add the cost element line id and also the use of enhancement 7 to control the message.
If you're in this case, pls follow the steps in note 302823 for each "Option", there are not only changes in OKGB, but also some changes needed in OKGA (e.g. assign category 'N')
2> If this cost element should be assigned, please double check the entries made in TA OKG5. Please do especially check if all hints of note 18472 are considered. Very often, filling the fields 'Masked cost center' and 'Masked activity type' with '+' solves this issue as well.
In the Extended log (KKA1 > Extras > Logs > Parameter List), check if you can see that cost element  is not assigned, but in
configuration transaction OKGB, masked cost element  is assigned.
    regards
    Waman
