Need a Video Out conenctor from an '09 iMac to an external Monitor

As I mention in the subject line, I'm in need of a video only connector to go from my '09 pre-thunderbolt iMac to an external monitor. This connector can go to either a male DV or male HDMI.

I can't upload or import videos from my iphoto library, into final cut pro x. When i click, IMPORT MEDIA in FCP, It lists iPhoto Library as GRAY, and will not let me access it. I need the videos out of there. I have tried every way I can think of.

I have also tried from the iphoto side, to export the videos or share them to final cut. I have had no luck.
I have tried to drag and drop indidual video clips from iphoto to fcp, and the programs simply do not respond to each other
I can see in the OLDER version of final cut pro x, where it has IMPORT FILES as an option, it was possible. I see this on forums and youtube videos of the older versions.
However, the newer version that i have, does not have IMPORT 'FILES' as an option, it is simply all lumped together as IMPORT 'MEDIA'

at the end, you say "import preferences", which program are you describing?
So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...
vs
using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?
All the footage, and all the libraries to all programs, or on a new pegasus 12tb raid 5 setup fyi.

VGA is an analog signal HDMI is digital. A simple cable would not work you would need something that converts the analog signal to digital.
A search of VGA to HDMI turned up a few possibilities but nothing specific. In any case the picture on the TV will not be very good given the source.
You should check to see if the TV has a VGA input. Some TV's have a computer connection port and this is usually VGA.

You'd need something to redirect the VGA signal to a DisplayPort connector on the iMac. Your other option is VGA is easily adaptable to S-Video, though its resolution is not as great as VGA and using http://www.elgato.com/ 's hardware for that. A third one is using a Remote Desktop app for the iPad. Several exist.

I recently purchased a new iMac with an external drive. I want to transfer my files from my old iMac to the external drive, but I'm afraid that doing that will compromise the use of the external drive on my new iMac. Comments? Help?

I have not downloaded the external drive's software onto my old Mac because of this concern. May I simply "drag and drop" the contents I want transferred to the external drive, then set up my new Mac with the drive and download there? or is there a better procedure? Comments? Help?

If your intention is to copy a just documents and data (word processing files and music for example) then yes, you can use drag and drop. If you want to transfer data and applications and permissions, it would actually be easiest to connect the drive to your old computer and turn on TimeMachine. Once TM is finished, connect the drive to your new computer and restart it holding the option key to get into Recovery mode. Then you can use the restore from TM option to transfer your data and programs to the new computer.

My MBP recently started logging itself out. I narrowed the problem to the external monitor which is connected with a Thunderbolt adapter. When I disconnected it, the problem went away.

My early 2011 MBP laptop (OS Yosemite 10.2.2) recently started logging itself out. I narrowed the problem to the external monitor which is connected with a Thunderbolt adapter. I installed Thunderbolt firmware update 1.2, that did not correct the problem. When I disconnect the external monitor, the problem went away. I purchased an MSI Machine from a local distributor and they failed to give me any doocumentation. I've spent much time and anguish gathering the info. (Specs Below)
I'm trying to get video out to TV and hopefully Video in also. But I don't know what I'm doing. I was able to get ahold of the proper drivers and some MSI Software such as the NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager that I think was supplied with the MSI Driver. I can Use two Monitors in any array such as Clone, Span, Dual View and Single but I cant output to my TV using Clone and the TV-out + DVI. Do I need special software. I'm using Windows Media Player and some videos and my svideo cable connected to TV on Video 1. Please Help. Please Please. Thanks In Advance. Gregg

Need to bring out data from Infocube to Flatfile

Hi All,
I have a cube with historcal data in one system.
Now my requiremnet is to creat a exactly similar cube in the other system, and need to load the historical data.done.
we are considering the below Options:
1) Fetching the data from the cube( From First System) in to a Flat file and load into New cube (other System).
or
2) Going For a Open hub to bring out the data into Flat file and load the data into new cube in the othersystem.
Note: Since OpenHub is the tool which we need to buy ( we are thinking. we are not sure)
There is no kind of relation ship between the 2 systems to copy the cube from one system to other system.
Please suggest the best options to get it.

Actually the copany got split into two. one of them have kept aside the cube with other company's information.
So they are not even ready to provide display access to their system. So creating RFC connection and Using APD to fetch the data to a flat file might not do.
What we are thikinng is Fetch the data from From the Cube output into a spread sheet and load that into the new cubs.
we have similar concern with Master Data Objects, we need to take out the attributes, Text and Heirarchies data and load in to new system.
Here how do bring out the data for Master data attributes, Texts and Hierarchies? does this work similarly with these how we do with the cube?
Especially with Hierarchies?

CS5 Playback Settings grayed out and no longer can set playback on external monitor.

I like to view my projects while editing on an external monitor but the Playback Settings are grayed out. I've done all my prior projects with external monitor display enabled with no problems and can go back to a prior projects completed and view them using an external playback monitor. For some reason, the Playback Settings on my latest project are grayed out and I'm not able to set Desktop Video Display During Playback.
The last project worked on was about 3 months ago. Last week, I started working on two new projects and noticed that I wasn't able to set playback to my external monitor. All my devices are hooked up and I can review older projects on the external monitor but can't set two new projects to use display on the external monitor.
Anyone have any ideas?
Problem solved. My fault.
The Sequence Preset Settings selected must support the device the external monitor is connected to. In my case, IEEE 1394 firewire. I corrected the new project to the correct Sequence Settings and can now view playback on the external monitor.

So everything should be covered on that front. And as I listed, I was getting playback out of AE CC, so I feel it is solely an issue in Premiere. That was worth checking out though since CC is so new. Thanks for replying.

HT5019 Is there a way to disable the toolbar from preventing windows being dragged to external monitors configured above it?

My preferred display arrangement is to have 2 external monitors (extended display) above my macbook pro screen. While it is possible to configure this in my display preferences, the toolbar on my desktop prevents me from dragging anything to the external monitors. Is there a way to disable whatever the toolbar is doing to cause this?

I have exactly the same concern. It seems it would be a simple fix for Apple to allow users to turn off the camera (and even the mic) while keeping FaceTime open -- especially now that it turns out FaceTime must remain open in order to send and receive iPhone calls on a Mac.
I like to think this new functionality of FaceTime will be baked into a future release of Yosemite, as the current setup has that not-quite-finished feel of a work in progress. In the meantime, there's nothing like a little piece of Post-It stuck over the camera to keep the NSA from watching your face as you type a post to the Apple Support Communities.

Why no video out content from my iMac G5 since the OS X 10.5.7 update

I use Apple Video Adapter which is connected to my HDTV, to view video or .jpg files from my iMac G5. It worked perfectly until Mac Update advised me to install the latest update, 10.5.7. However, now that I have done so, my TV says no video signal is being received from the Apple Video Adapter s-video line. The TV does receive s-video content from other video components such as my DVD player, when connected through the same input jack. So I know my HDTV doesn't have the problem. I haven't seen any discussions on this problem as yet and for lack of a solution, I am contemplating using Time Machine to restore my iMac to the prior OS, 10.5.6. Does anyone have a simpler solution before I resort to this drastic measure?

I eventually went to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store and discovered that a kink in the s-video cable caused the problem. Thanks "Genius Bar". I don't know what I would have done without you.

No Video out coming from the computer

i had my logic board replaced about a year ago and now my computer is acting up again. it starts and boots fine but the screen is just black (its not the backlight cause i see nothing). i know it boots ok because on my desktop i shows up under my network places and i can access the harddrive fine. before the screen went totally black got a message that said that mac OS X had unexpectdly quit. my question is is it the logic bard again or is it the OS X. any help would be much appreciated.

How big is your hard drive and how much space remains available on it?
How do you know it's not the backlight? Have you tried shining a flashlight through the back of it?
If you have access to the hard drive via your network, it's not the logic board, and probably not your OS X installation. Suspect the inverter board, possibly, if it isn't the backlight cable, or you may need a whole new display.

Need help backing up info from MacPro AND Powerbook G4 to external drive...

As the title implies, I would like to backup my stuff from my MacBook Pro AND my OLD dinosaur PowerBook G4 to an external Seagate drive.
What would be the best/easiest way to move this to the external?
I am mainly concerned with my Photos, Movies, Music.
I remember having a nightmare of a time with the PowerBook as I had a corrupted the photo library and had photos ALL over the place! I became very frustrated and bought the newer MacPro. (lesson learned)
I decided to pull out the dino and have decided to conquer it again. Could someone help me out or point me in the right direction?
I have the most current version of SuperDuper on my MacPro. I bought a 1st gen Time Capsule and resold it because of all of the problems people were having with them. Will get a NEW Time Capsule soon but no funds now. (Christmas coming up)

Fully-updated 10.5 on your PowerPC will work fine with a Time Capsule, as will 10.5, 10.6, or 10.7 on a Mac Pro. This is the easiest to manage in the long run, once you make certain it is actually performing the backup without error.
(Some users find their first backups fail due to bad disknames or bad filenames or damaged files, but once these are eliminated, it seems to work fine.).
You can manually move a single external drive into position to back up each Mac in turn, but that is more work and you lose automaticity, so Time Machine would not necessarily be the best backup solution. Bootable clones may be preferable. Most folks would suggest that BOTH solutions should be used for best results.
Drives are cheap. We used to spend US$1000 for 80 MegaBytes.

Yes of course this is a very basic, you will need to sync using iTunes.Depending on the level of editing you want to do you can edit them on the iMac in iMovie or even Final Cut Pro if you want professional grade editing. BTW here is the link for iMovie which comes with EVERY Mac.
