Need a VNC Desktop Companion

I am trying to set up a remote control connection (VNC Server) on an old G5 iMac so I can control it remotely from my iPhone/iPad.  Getting a )free) VNC client on the iOS devices is not an issue.  I already downloaded PocketCloud.
In order to make the connection through the router easier, PocketCloud had a free desktop companion that uses a gmail account to make the connection.  Unfortunately, the current PocketC;loud companion software only supports 10.6 and above.  My PPC iMac stopped at 10.5.
I contacted PocetCloud Support but they will not supply obsolete software.  I also looked into no-ip.com and while that might be a solution I would like to avoid the additional layer of software and the 30 day required maintenance of the account.  Does anyone know of a VNC desktop (preferably free) that will run on OS X 10.5 and has a corresponding iOS app?  Short of that, does anyone know of another way to establish a VNC connection without manual configuration or using no-ip.com?
Thanks,
David

Axeman:
Thanks for the quick response.  I looked at this breifly yesterday but I guess I didn't realize it was free for personal use.  Also, it wasn't clear to me (and I guess still isn't) that this allows me to control my own computer remotely.  It looks like this is more for Remote control of one computer from another (desktop/laptop) computer rather than an iOS device.  Would I still install the all-in-one package on my G5 and use the iOS app to connect back to that while it is unattended, or does someone have tio accept the remote session on the other end?  Also, just wonderiung if you know how this compares to LogMeIn Free?
Does Teamviewer require you set up an account with them (as LogMeIn does), or is everything managed locally?
Thanks,
David

  • Need help for desktop issue

    Hi all, i need help urgently. my desktop has nothing on it but when i get info it shows that desktop is using over 10GB of disk space and counting. does anyone knows what is going on as my available disk space getting lesser as the day goes by.

    Hi,
    I also have issues with my desktop - the iDisk was not syncing.
    I opened the desktop folder on a window, and it showed zero items, when I have the HD and LaCie hardrives showing on the desktop. The iDisk does not show on the desktop as it should. However, the desktop folder showed other items such as files saved on the desktop.
    Here's what happened last week: I received an e-mail from an airline saying that my ticket was approved - it was from an actual airline so i made the BIG mistake of opening the link only to find a bunch of scrambled characters - i immediately figured out that it was a bomb/virus/scam to destroy the computer, and after that i had problems with Entourage (had to call support to solve the issue) and now with syncing iDisk the 0-items desktop folder. Are they related or just coincidence? Who knows....
    And here's the sad part: I tried your suggestion and it didn't work. I opened the desktop folder and still shows 0 items; the iDisk still not appearing on the desktop automatically (as it should) and still "failed to sync"; and I am still frazzled/puzzled.

  • Need help with Desktop Office Integration (DOI)

    Hi all,
    i need help to read an Excelsheet into an int. table.
    Its the first time, that i use the SAP DOI. I copy different coding into my Report to get connection to an existing Excelsheet.
    Here is my Coding:
    * first get the SAP DOI i_oi_container_control interface
      CALL METHOD c_oi_container_control_creator=>get_container_control
                        IMPORTING control = gr_control
                                  error   = gr_errors.
      APPEND gr_errors.
    * create a control container as defined in dynpro 100
      CREATE OBJECT gr_container
                EXPORTING container_name = 'CONTAINER'.
    * initialize the SAP DOI Container, tell it to run in the container
    * specified above and tell it to run Excel in-place
      CALL METHOD gr_control->init_control
        EXPORTING
          r3_application_name      =    'Data'
          inplace_enabled          = ' '
          inplace_scroll_documents = 'X'
          parent                   = gr_container
          register_on_close_event  = 'X'
          register_on_custom_event = 'X'
          no_flush                 = 'X'
        IMPORTING
          error                    = gr_errors.
    * save error object in collection
      APPEND gr_errors.
    * ask the SAP DOI container for a i_oi_document_proxy for Excel
      CALL METHOD gr_control->get_document_proxy
                           EXPORTING document_type = 'Excel.Sheet'
    *                       EXPORTING document_type = 'Word.Document'
                                    no_flush = 'X'
    *                                REGISTER_CONTAINER = 'X'
                          IMPORTING document_proxy = gr_document
                                    error          = gr_errors.
      APPEND gr_errors.
    Then i open the Document from lokal PC.
    CALL METHOD gr_document->open_document
          EXPORTING
    *      document_title   = ld_filenc
            document_url     = ld_verzc
    *      NO_FLUSH         = ' '
    *      OPEN_INPLACE     = ' '
    *      open_readonly    = ' '
    *      PROTECT_DOCUMENT = ' '
    *      STARTUP_MACRO    = ''
    *      USER_INFO        =
    *      ONSAVE_MACRO     =
          IMPORTING
            error            = gr_errors
    *      RETCODE          =
      APPEND gr_errors.
    Now i start the spreadsheet interface:
    *...check if our document proxy can serve a spreadsheet interface  data:
      DATA: pd_has TYPE i.
      CALL METHOD gr_document->has_spreadsheet_interface
                        EXPORTING no_flush = 'X'
                        IMPORTING is_available = pd_has
                                  error = gr_errors.
      APPEND gr_errors.
      CALL METHOD gr_document->get_spreadsheet_interface
                        EXPORTING no_flush = ' '
                        IMPORTING
                                  sheet_interface = gr_spreadsheet
                                  error = gr_errors.
      APPEND gr_errors.
    * now loop through error collection because
    * Get_spreadsheet_interface flushed and synchronized
    * the automation queue !
      LOOP AT gr_errors.
        CALL METHOD gr_errors->raise_message
                        EXPORTING  type     = 'I'
                        EXCEPTIONS message_raised = 1
                                   OTHERS         = 2.
        IF sy-subrc = 1.
          MESSAGE ID sy-msgid TYPE sy-msgty NUMBER sy-msgno
                  WITH sy-msgv1 sy-msgv2 sy-msgv3 sy-msgv4.
          pd_kz_fehler = 'X'.
          EXIT.
        ENDIF.
      ENDLOOP.
      FREE gr_errors.
    Ok, now i can open a Excelsheet, and i can mark a range in the sheet
    rows is a constant.
    CALL METHOD gr_spreadsheet->set_selection
          EXPORTING
            left     = 1
            top      = 2
            rows     = rows
            columns  = 18
    *    NO_FLUSH = ' '
    *    UPDATING = -1
        IMPORTING
          error    = gr_errors
    *    RETCODE  =

  • When cloning startup drive -need to copy desktop files separately?

    Hi, I am new at this stuff and want to be sure when reinstalling the OS that I don't lose any files. I have used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the startup disk, but cannot tell whether the destop files and folders are there or not. So pardon the obvious question, but do I need to copy the desktop separately. If no, how do I detect these files on the cloned disk? The desktop icon, seems the same no matter which drive I open, so I am concerned that there is only one copy of these files?
    Input appreciated!

    There is no one desktop. Each user has a desktop folder in their home folder, so if the user files are saved, the desktop will be saved.

  • Do I need to reinstall desktop environment for each user?

    Hello,
    I have installed xwindows and the i3 desktop environment on my root account by mistake.  I created a user account and logged into it, but I could not start a xwindows because it wasn't installed on that account.  Do I need to reinstall everything on the new user or is there a way to copy everything over?
    Thanks

    offtopic @Xyne
    What I am still wondering is if using xorg wrap is a hack as opposed to some "cleaner" systemd solution.
    Well, simply not using Xwrapper.config, then Xorg will handle this on it's own (see man page extract below). I don't think Openbox has problems with this, so I think the problems you had would have to be looked at separately. But maybe better on their own topic...
    'man Xorg.wrap'
    By default Xorg.wrap will autodetect if root rights are necessary, and if
    not it will drop its elevated rights before starting the real X server. By
    default Xorg.wrap will only allow executing the real X server from login
    sessions on a physical console.
    When auto-detecting the wrapper will drop rights if kms graphics are avail‐
    able and not drop them if no kms graphics are detected. If a system has
    multiple graphics cards and some are not kms capable auto-detection may
    fail, in this case manual configuration should be used.
    You're a bit late on that one

  • Help needed to create desktop application background using javaFx.

    Hi,
    i need to create background for my desktop application in JavaFx. It have top side bottom menu bars to place icon buttons for my app. The whole scene need to resize. I had tried this using
    JavaFx composer. But my issue is like in java swing i can not able to create different panels and set different styles. Please help me on this issue.
    Thankyou.

    Hi mate take a rectangle and fill it to scene width !
    use fill gradient and bind it to your main scene.width
    for example :
    Rectangle {
    fill: color.Blue
    stroke: LinearGradient {
    startX: 125.0, startY: 0.0, endX: 225.0, endY: 0.0
    proportional: false
    stops: [
    Stop { offset: 0.0 color: Color.web("#1F6592") }
    Stop { offset: 1.0 color: Color.web("#80CAFA") }
    use appropriate start and offset then bind it to scene width and height.
    width : bind scene.width;
    height : bind scene.height ;

  • How can I find the icon I need among the desktop clutter?

    OK, my desktop accumulates a lot of icons, and then it's hard to find the one I need.
    I'd like to click on the file name in a window and make the icon obvious, like blink or highlight.
    I haven't found anything as part of OSX or Finder, or on Google.
    Maybe there's an application that can do this?

    You should not clutter up your Desktop with icons!
    Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
    Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
    Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
    Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.
    And it is why Apple invented 'Stacks'.

  • Need help debugging desktop crashes

    Hi all,
    I've started having trouble with random desktop crashes. It only happens occasionally (twice in the past couple of weeks), but my screens black out (no signal). The desktop is still powered on, but I can't ssh to it. I'm pretty sure I wasn't doing anything specific either time to cause the crash.
    Unfortunately, I don't have much more information (sorry!). I've been told on the IRC to look at dmesg, the output of which I've pasted below, but I can't really make head nor tail of it.
    Ask me and I'll post any other logs/command output that might help.

    Is this the log of a failed boot or of a successful one? If it is a successful one, please provide the log of a failed boot. This log seems to say that there are 3 displays detected, so I think this is a normal boot.
    What I would like to see is if the failed boot starts X or not. That is, assuming you use X. When the boot fails, do you see messages on your screen before it goes black?

  • Need a GOOD desktop replacement app

    I've been looking around a lot online looking for an app to replace my desktop background with a screensaver. I've found a few solutions, none of which work well. What i want is to have "arabesque" as my desktop background. Ive looked at "magicdesktopSwitch"
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/icons_screensavers/magicdesktopswitch.html
    which has been the closet to what i want, but i cant seem to get it to start on startup. Does anyone know of any other way that this is possible? Thanks.

    Ya, i sent him an email. Do you think there's anyway to get this to start automatically??? Thats about all its missing. I asked him the same thing, he just hasn't responded yet.

  • What does Outlook 2007 really use or need from Windows Desktop Search Engine

    1) What will I lose if I don't intall this product
    2) What will I gain if I use this product
    3) How can I turn off all the non Outllook 2007 functions of this product
    4) What other functions in Office 2007 are used by this product

    Hi,
    First of all, you need to have the following specifications for using Outlook 2007: -
    256 MB RAM.
    500 MHz Processor.
    3.5 GB free hard disk space.
    Microsoft Windows(R) XP with Service Pack SP(2), Windows Server(R) 2003 with SP1.
    I hope that this may be helpful to you.

  • Cannot delete the checkbox for Master Password - desktop synced with mobile device - is the password for that what is needed on the desktop?

    Re-installed Firefox 4 recently after initial problems with Rapport software. Now get a box to enter a master password to proceed - just close it but it is annoying. Visited Options and under Security unchecked the Master Password box but another warning box appears and when this is closed the Master Password box is re-checked. I have never created a Master Password. My desktop is synced with my mobile device and I have a password for that - is this the master password? If not, what other options are there for stopping this box appearing when Firefox is activated?

    The name and password for Firefox Sync and the Sync key are stored in the Password Manager.<br />
    So if you use Sync then you will get a Master Password prompt the first time that Sync wants to connect to the Sync server.

  • Need help with Bose companion 2 hook-up

    I can't get sound from my Bose companion 2 speakers - only static noise if turned up. Any suggestions?  Could the jack on the computer be fried?  I thought we blew out our last speakers, but wonder if it is the input.

    Dunno. Maybe it's the control pod. Is there power going to the speakers? what's the sound output set to. Try Audio MIDI, maybe something got stuck in there. It might be the speakers' input cable. Hopefully that's replaceable. you could try cleaning the plug with a little isopropanol (rubbing alcohol) and letting 'er dry, then trying it.  Then again, it might be the jack. do you have some headphones to try out?

  • Hard shutdown needed to get desktop back

    I’m sure there is an explanation for this, which I’d love to know, in case it happens again.
    While dragging a .jpg photo down my desktop to the trash, I lost control of the mouse. The photo then opened on my screen surrounded by black (no desktop). For a split second, controls of some sort appeared below the photo and then disappeared.
    I could not find a way to get back to the desktop. The controls would not appear again. Every time I tried escape, the system alert sounded. Right-clicking produced nothing.
    In the end had to do a hard shutdown. When started up again all was well. Checked mouse preferences: side buttons off and scroll ball set to Expose all windows.
    Any help appreciated. Don’t want to have to do a hard shutdown again.

    Remember Command-Option-Esc.  Try it now.  That is the keyboard shortcut to bring up the Force Quit window (usually accessed from the Apple menu).  If any app is "hung up" (not responding) it will be RED on the list.  You can select it and do a Force Quit.  That should give you back control of the Mac.
    You can also try doing Command-Tab.  This brings up the application switcher.  Keep the Command key down and keep pressing Tab to select the app to swtich too.  Try to switch to a different app.
    I have no idea why that happened.  Since you dropped a file onto the Desktop, it may have been Finder that was not responding.  If you were in the process of moving files, you would have been in Finder.  You can Force Quit Finder, and it will relaunch automatically (because Finder is aways suppoesd to be running).
