Need a way to make background sound continuous when combining clips?

I suspect the answer to this is that it can't be done in iMovie 8 and I need to use iMovie HD, but let me ask anyway. Perhaps one of you can tell me a clever way to do this.
I am creating a home movie of a wedding, in which there is background music on the soundtrack. When I go through the normal process of combining short clips, it sounds terrible, because the background music gets all hashed up into short pieces. What I'd like is to have the background music be continuous and just have the video jump around from clip to clip.
I'm guessing that I need to use some other software to pull the background music out as an mp3 file and then superimpose it just like I would any other music. Is that right? Can anyone suggest a method for extracting the soundtrack?
Thanks for any help.

The problem was that I didn't have the background music as a separate clip. However, I have downloaded MPEG Streamclip, and that seems to be a feature to allow you to pull out the sound from a video and make an mp3 file. So I plan to try that.

  • Is there a way to make the audio continue when the page is turned?

    Can I make the audio continue while a reader turns pages in iBook? With everything I've tried the music shuts off as soon as the page is turned. Thanks for any insight.

    Latest: Working in Pages actually seems to work for this! Place the audio file in Pages (drag and drop works just fine), make sure the audio is inline (not floating) export Pages to ePub and run the Book Proofer . . .  once you click to start the audio, the audio plays until the end, regardless of where you are in the book, it keeps playing. Minor victory because you loose a bit of the layout features that iBook Author has, but the audio now functions the way I was hoping.

    Check the Mute switch, which is on the left side of the phone above the volume buttons.

  • Is there a way to make the clock show when the phone is plugged into the charger, rather than have the screen go blank?

    Hey guys,
    I just finally got my first smart phone (I know), an iPhone 4S. I was wondering if there was a way to make it so when the phone is plugged in, the screen stays on but is dimly lit or something, just so I can see the clock without having to press the button? However, I'd want this to be automatic, as I want the screen to go blank when the phone isn't plugged in. I don't want to have to change the setting each time I plug in the phone. I kind of obsessively look at my phones' clocks when I am doing other things and can't be bothered to reach over and press the button.
    I couldn't find an option in Settings, so I came here. If there's no way to do it naturally in iOS 5, is there an app someone can recommend?
    Appreciate it in advance!

    Just I tried it on my phone and looks like you can't.

    Thank you very much, cesaribenitez95. The beeping was driving me insane. Since a complete uninstall and reinstall of QuickTime (the Amateur version, not Pro) hadn't solved the problem for me, I had little confidence that your suggestion to repair the installation would work in my case. But it did! The repair does something magical which the installation is failing to do.
    Interestingly, the beeping was only occurring when I played videos in the stand-alone QuickTime player. There was no beeping when I played the videos in the iTunes embedded player.
    Anyway, now there is no beeping at all and I am a happy camper. Thanks again.

  • Best way to make background

    Hey, I have a few questions regarding how to make a background for my game. Since this is the first time ive tried to do this, I dont have much of an idea on what is good and what is bad to do.
    What I want to do is create a scrollable, tiled background. My thoughts after reading some on this forum was to create something like a 10x10 grid of JLabels to paint all the various tiles on. It seems a little overkill to use 100 objects to paint. Which brings me to my first question and second qestion:
    1. What should i use to paint the pictures on?
    2. What does a good size sound like, is 10x10 way too big? 7x7 is a lot less and less than half the size.
    I must cut this post short as I must leave for school now, but i have two moer quick questions:
    3. Also, what kind of loading for the images should I do to make sure they are pre loaded?
    4. What kind of images should i use, .bmp, .gif, .jpg?
    Thanks for your help,
    WoW

    1.What should i use to paint the pictures on?
    If you want to use tiles you can simply set this up by creating a buffered image via a graphics object:
              Image = getImage(getDocumentBase(), "test.gif");//there are lots of different TYPE_s look them up
              BufferedImage = new BufferedImage(yourScreenWidth,yourScreenHeight, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
              Graphics = BufferedImage.createGraphics();Then you can draw on the buffered image like this
         Graphics.drawImage(Image,x,y, this);//draw your tiles on here.Then you can draw your final image as normal
            public void paint(Graphics g) //or whatever
                   g.drawImage(BufferedImage,x,y, this);
            }2. What does a good size sound like, is 10x10 way too big? 7x7 is a lot less and less than half the size.
    16*16, 32*32, 64*64 etc. Standard screen friendly sizes, but it all depends on the size you want your final screensize.
    3. Also, what kind of loading for the images should I do to make sure they are pre loaded?
    import javax.imageio.ImageIO;
               try
                    Image = javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(getClass().getResource("test.gif"));
               catch(java.io.IOException e)
              System.out.println(e);

  • Video Playback - Need a way to make students watch the entire video without taking away their controls.

    We want to give our students a good viewing experience for our videos so we'd like to give them playback controls. BUT, we need them to watch the entire video without being able to skip ahead. An ideal situation would allow the user to move to any point in the video, just as long as they have already viewed that portion of the video. Make sense? The only option we have to make sure they are watching the video, is to take away their playback controls.
    Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jesse

    Think about it. How does taking away their ability to NAVIGATE prove the learner actually WATCHED the video?  They could still easily go do something else while the video is playing.  Does this somewhat draconian 'state' of which you speak also mandate that someone is present when the student is forced to watch this entire video to verify their compliance?
    This whole approach is futile.  Get the person to tick a box either at the end of the slide or on the next slide requiring them to verify they DID watch the video in its entirety.  If they choose to lie, it's on their adult head.

  • Windows Movie Maker - no sound on QT video clips

    I'm trying to combine QuickTime video clips (downloaded from Casio camera) into one movie, using Windows Movie Maker (Vista). All the clips have sound when I open them in their folder but after importing the clips in to MovieMaker, there is no sound. How do I import these clips so that their sound is also there? I have no problem with other video clips, only those saved as QT.
    Thanks

  • HT1551 Screen goes black but sound continues when watching netflix on apple tv

    Screen goes black intermittently when watching Netflix , sound remains. Broadband is strong , not sure what problem is

    That will usually indicate a network issue. First try rebooting ATV and router.
    Make sure DNS is set to automatic (settings - general - network). If on wifi try ethernet. Go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a report of the network, look for signal strength and noise.

  • Iphone doesn't make a sound alert when get texts many times

    Has anyone else noticed that sometimes you get a sound alert that you got a text and many times you do not?

    Hello, Nina1125.
    Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    I would make sure that you have a Text Tone set in Settings > Sounds.  If your device is witched to silent Text Tones will not be audible.

    Hi there
    Probably it's just a matter of associating the correct CSS file.
    Open both topics in RoboHelp.
    Edit a topic where things look correct.
    Click the CSS icon as shown below:
    Click the image below for larger view
    Now edit the errant topic.
    Click the same icon and choose the CSS file you saw earlier.

  • Need a way to automatically block HU stock when moved to damage bin.

    I am looking for a way to automatically block stock when it is moved to certain bins.  For example, when a handling unit is moved to a Damage bin (storage type 306), I would like movement type 344 to be executed to automatically hide the stock from ATP.  I know that bins can be blocked from stock placement and removal but that is not what I am looking for.  I do not want the stock available for sale.
    One solution would be to modify our custom RF program to do a movement 344 following the movement 999 (bin to bin transfer) whenever an HU is moved into bins of a certain storage type.  However, I am looking for a pure configuration approach or any other ideas.
    Thanks in advance.

    A similar requirement is being discussed in the following thread. Check my response over and see if it helps.
    ATP check at delivery level is taking into account stock in S type 999

  • Sound Vanishes When Moving Clip From Clips Pane To Video Selection Timeline

    Hi,
    I've been using iMovie for years and never run into a problem, but just today I imported some video, played it back fine in the clips pane, then dragged them down into the main video timeline, and all of a sudden there's no sound on them. The video plays fine, but no audio at all.
    Anyone know what happened? I can't figure it out.
    Thanks!

    is it this?

  • Sound disappears when dropping clip to sequence timeline

    I have a quicktime clip that plays without problems when in the viewer window. I edit the clip as desired and then place the clip in the sequence timeline. When I try to view the clip, the sound is gone, replaced by a regularly pulsing beep. When I first opened the project and added the clip I got the warning stating my project settings didn't match the clip settings and accepted FC Pro's suggestion to change my project to match the clip. This is the only clip I'm working with. How can I get my sound working correctly?

    Rendering doesn't solve the underlying problem. Your audio is not in a standard editing format (perhaps it is mp3?) which can cause you problems down the line.
    The audio in FCP (with rare exceptions) should be aiff/ 48khz/16 bit. Other formats, sample rates, etc lead to drifting out of sync, pops and other really annoying anomalies.
    good luck,
    x

  • Mac Pro makes no sounds

    My old Mac Pro 1,1 does not make any sounds. When I open the Sound Control Panel and select the Output tab, The 'Select a device for sound output' mini window says 'No output devices found.'
    I need a solution that does not involve reinstalling the OS. I have done that twice, and both times have lost my connection to all my old software (Adobe, Microsoft, etc.). Moreover, it scrambles my iPhoto Library which has a great deal of photos in its database. Does anyone have any ideas? There has gotta be something I can do, load some file or something instead of reinstalling the OS. Help!

    There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
    If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
    Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
