Need advice & answers about updating DV7 Processor

I've had an HP Pavilion dv7t Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.0GHz 4GB 320GB 17.3" for a little over a year. (I have no idea what the processor # is) Recently the fan started getting louder so I took it in to be cleaned b/c my hands are paralyzed and I can't work on the unit myself. The tech got the fan running smooth again w/ graphite powder. Right after that he said the laptop wouldn't stay running for longer than 5 mins before shutting down. As of right now he says the CPU is fried. I asked if he could pull it and test it and then he informed me that the CPU was soldered to the motherboard. (it was running fine until it was taken to be cleaned except for loud fan noise)
Ok, so if the processor has gone out. Whats a good replacement/upgrade if possible for this system and how much will a CPU and motherboard set me back?
Any advice, tip or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The processor in not soldered for your model, you should consider other technician.

I'm guessing he did something wrong when cleaning and adding new thermal paste.
CPU is the most rare part to fail.

Need advice/idea about Image gallery

Hello to ALL!!!
I'm trying to make an dynamic image gallery WITH!!! some
active buttons above (for example: BUTTON1 with function "delete"
and BUTTON2 with function "update") a picture and some "dataoutput"
below (for example:Price). So, separate cell must look like:
BUTTON1 BUTTON2

For implementation this task I have:
1) mySQL database "gallery" with table "test" and columns
"Id", "path to image", "Price"
2) 2 gifs: BUTTON1, BUTTON2
Before my first trying I thought that it's simple, and I've
tried:

And I afraid that I've chosen a "wrong method" (I mean my
code above)

Need advice RE: Firmware update

Hi all,
Need a little advice. My daughter came home from school with her macbook Core2 mid 2007.
She seems to have installed the EFI update but it keeps showing up in SU when ran. I can only assume she did not follow the instructions to complete the update on reboot. It shows three separate installs in the Software Update Application preferences and the update utility is in her apps folder. How should I proceed? Should I just launch the update.app and go from there or re-download and install the firmware from apple?

I think what happened is when SU would check for updates she would just click "install all" and then do a normal reboot instead or running the updater.app utility. The updater was most likely closed when she clicked "restart". SU preference showed three different cases of her installing the firmware update along with numerous other updates including 10.4.11 and all appear to have taken. But System Profiler shows the boot ROM has not been updated to the most current one. Thus it kept coming up every 2 weeks. She is a little unclear as to what she did after the updates. So my best bet is to assume it was downloaded and installed and for me to run the FirmwareUpdater.app in the utilities folder now to make the change, is that correct?

It gets very stressful. Will filing bankruptcy help my situation. I just want to be able to start over. Off Topic, But I Need An Answer (About Buying an iBook G3)

I was looking around on eBay for different stuff and I came across several iBook G3's (the colored ones). I know that technology has changed a lot, but I think it would be cool to have one just to fool around on and show off (it would turn heads).
I found a user-upgraded model with the following specs:
Processor: PowerPC 366 MHz
RAM: 320 mb
Hard Drive: 20 gig
12" screen
Mac OS X Panther
Include Microsoft Office X
I wouldn't pay more than $200 total (with shipping) for something like this.
Would that setup be able to surf the internet, perform basic word processing, play iTunes music, and use MSN Messenger relativly well? Or is it simply a terrible idea to buy something like this off eBay?

You most likely wont find a colored iBook with a 20GB drive, the shipping hard drives for the models had 4, 6 or 10GB drives.
Then again, I see you did, good luck at getting it for less than $200.

Need Advice Fast About Lion Thumb Drive Please!

Here's my situation, I've got several Macs that are on Snow Leopard that can upgrade to Lion but not Mountain Lion, I've been looking around for the Lion thumb drive, but can only find it on eBay, or some pirated version on Amazon.com.

You can make a USB thumb drive with the Recovery HD only on it and use it to boot into the Recovery HD to download/install Lion on the Macs you own or control. The Lion Recovery Disk Assistant is used to create this thumb drive. It does not have the full installer. You can install the assistant on any Mac that is running Lion.

Advice about updating os

I'm hoping that some generous soul will give me a bit of advice about updating the os.
I have a macbook intel core 2 duo 2.16 running osx 10.4.9 I have stayed with this os for the last year or so becuase it was the only one that would run protools. But now safari is having trouble loading some pages and regularly quits unexpectly and things are generally slower.
Would it be a good idea to buy a new version of mac os (like leopard), reformat the machine and start again? if so, is it a straighforward process (like it usually is on a pc)?

One thing to keep in mind, applications and even Operating Systems do not wear out. If they worked at one time they should continue to work under the same circumstances indefinitely. Something may have gotten corrupt and need fixing. Sometimes an update will cover this by virtue of throwing out the corrupted file because that files gets replaced in the update but that does not necessarily happen, depending. It is far better to fix a problem before installing an update, and then it is very smart to have a way to revert to your "pre-update" status should you discover that the update has something that will not work with your setup. It happens often enough.
Updates only add features and maybe fix bugs but they can also add bugs and break things that have worked.

I had this problem on my iMac, where the Airport automatically disconnected from the internet (Beacon lost thing). Now I installed my Leopard again and I have the software Version 10.5
My internet works great now but I don't know what to do about the update. I have 4 options:
Airport-Serviceprogram 5.3.2 , Remote Desktop Client, Quicktime, Itunes, Combo-Update to 10.5.5
But I am afraid of updating to 10.5.5. I would do that but I don't have any option about airport updates that go with that to uncheck. Or do I just have to uncheck the first thing and am going to be fine with installing the 10.5.5 update?

Yes, I doubt your issue was with 10.5.5 as my Airport and most others work well in 10.5.5. The Combo Update is the safest way to assure that your system is trouble-free. While I understand your reticence, it's best to get it ironed out. That said, you should always have a backup. Make a SuperDuper clone or, CarbonCopy Cloner clone before you begin. Then if anything untoward happens, you have the clone to restore.

I need advice here! I am studing for Java Programmer certification (310-035) and I know now that the certification does not have any expiration date, instead it's version based. So, if I get now a J2SE 1.4 certification, soon it will be outdated... I guess!
Does anyone know or have any ideia of WHEN java 1.5 sdk will be avaliable, and anyone can tell me how long it will take for a new 1.5 programmer certification be avaliable for general public?

Do both. 1.5 is far enough away that you do not want to wait for it.
And besides, 1.5 has enough new stuff in it that you'll want to recertify anyway.

Need advice about purchasing a dryer

Our dryer went out and we need some information about buying a new dryer. What's this hoopla about dryers not coming with a power cord? We don't need a venting kit as our old dryer still has a perfectly good venting system, but I find it strange that dryers cost so much money and then they want you to pay a ridiculous amount for the cord and then want to charge you to have someone install the cord for it. Gee I wish I was an electrician at this point as I could do it myself but don't want to ruin a new item I would purchase. I can't spend no more then $400 total on this.

I’m by no means an appliance expert, but my understanding is that for safety, all dryers require a three plug power cord to make sure it’s adequately grounded. In addition, building codes require that venting kits be upgraded or we won’t install the unit.
I’d recommend talking to our appliance experts at your local Best Buy when you get an opportunity as they can better explain these details as well as find you the exact dryer you’re looking for!

I agree completely; email applications on the Mac lag (and I agree with the OP's frustration with responses as well).
I also have settled on Mail with Mail ActOn and MailTags; this functionality should be incorporated into the OS. I actually like using Outlook in Win 7 better; it's super easy to connect files, contacts, email and other stuff right from one application. And Win 7 has better preview and tagging built in, better than QuickLook. On the server side we desparately need gmail to use tags, but I don't see that happening. I still prefer the labeling scheme it has over Apple's mail, however. But I also find that it confuses many users (labels vs folders).
There are also other applications that integrate email functionality, like SOHO Organizer, or Contactizer. Good, but not the email holy grail.
I'd like to see communications built into the Finder or system, which badly needs an overhaul. It hasn't changed much since the 90's and shows it. Communication, whether it be email, tweets, social media posts, sharing, etc, is such an integral function of all work you do on a computer it should be better, um, integrated into all applications. You should be able to send data from any application to others in a variety of formats without having to go into an email application. Sure, you can now do this to a certain extent with either built-in menu items or services, but it's clunky. For example, when you write something you can either "save" and write to disk somewhere, or "export" in a different format, or maybe "email." All of those choices should at least be part of one dialog; it's just as likely you want to email, post, share or tweet what you just wrote, so just having a "save" dialog is way outmoded.
So, yeah, somebody get on this.

Windows 8.1 need help with Windows Updates and Start menu Or fix my old Windows Xp system

My beloved windows Xp has gave up after many years of working well. It stopped working a few days ago after a lightening strike.
I got this Windows 8.1 computer a few month ago but it seems to have a problem. I stopped using it after could not get start menu to work and when back to my Windows XP system.
First problem is the start menu is not there. I tried installing something and it says it will take control or something and screen goes black. I clicked canceled quickly in order not to get a virus.
Where is the start menu?
Second problem, Windows updates does not want to update because it needs Windows 8.1 update. This computer is already Windows 8.1. There I canceled it since it was mostly a virus. Now updates are not working.
If those can not be fixed, how can i fix my Windows Xp to get it back. It does not turn on, I press button and nothing happens. Is this something easy to fix?

Another user discovers that Windows 8.1 is not at all of what it should be.
There is no Start Menu in Windows 8 or 8.1. However, you can restore your desktop start menu with a very good freeware application:
Classic Shell
Windows Update comes with Windows 8.1. There is nothing special you have to do.
It kind of sounds like you've been a bit too quick to download and run whatever you find on the Internet. You should always research any software you're considering downloading/installing ahead of time. Google it. See what others say
about it. Ask on forums. In order to use Windows effectively and safely you need to expand your knowledge and become a more sophisticated user.
If you think your new system has become infected, you might want to consider Refreshing or Resetting it to a clean state, or at least visiting one of the anti-malware forums and getting some advice on cleaning it up. But beware, a lot
of "blind leading the blind" happens on forums. Always try to read between the lines, and question what people say.
You could consider leaving XP behind. Its time has come and gone, and pretty much any newer version of Windows can actually give you better service than XP - once you get it tuned up.
It's possible to make Windows 8.1 more functional than XP and about as functional as Windows 7, but it takes a fair bit of effort in reconfiguration and installation of some well-known 3rd party applications that are good (which, unfortunately, most
on the internet are not).
